James W. Little, 58
DOVER - James W. Little, of Dover, died of natural causes Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in his home. He was 58.
Mr. Little was born Nov. 22, 1944, in Dover, son of Isabel Wyatt Little of Dover and the late Wilson D. Little, who died in 1992.
He was in the Delaware Army National Guard.
Mr. Little was an electrical contractor and owner of J&W Electric Inc. for 33 years. Many years ago, he was a driver for Torbert Ambulance Service.
He loved camping and saltwater fishing.
Mr. Little was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Dover, and of the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post 2.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of six years, Judith E. Little of Dover; a daughter, Tammy Dawn Rose of Florida; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Maurice W. and Patricia Little and Leslie E. Little, all of Dover; two nieces, Amy Carrow and Lisa Lowman; five stepchildren, Victoria A. Shrom and Thomas M. Shrom, both of Dover, Kathleen Jefferis of Wilmington, James Cortese of Lewes and Christina Cunningham of Rehoboth Beach; three grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandson.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral chapel.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Du Pont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.

Jean E. Martin, 76
DOVER - Jean E. Martin, of Dover, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in Westminster Retirement Village in Dover. She was 76.
Mrs. Martin was born in Erie, Pa., daughter of the late Ethel A. Dolan.
She spent her formative years in Erie and graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1944.
Mrs. Martin met and married U.S. Navy Cmdr. William A. Martin in Houston, Texas, in July 1946, and accompanied him on several tours of duty.
She had served as director of the Language Laboratory at Wesley College from 1969 to 1971.
As an active woman throughout her life, she served as a Girl Scout leader in Springfield, Va., and in Casablanca, Morocco, where she served as a troop consultant at Nouasseur Air Base and as a representative to the North Atlantic Council in Heidelberg, Germany. She and her family moved to Dover in 1968 and, as a cancer survivor, she initiated American Cancer Society's Reach to Recovery program in Kent and Sussex counties in the early '70s. For many years, she was a member of the Patient Services Committee, along with serving on the board of directors for the Kent County Unit of the American Cancer Society. In 1984, she was the recipient of both the Terese Lasser Award and the Governor's Award for volunteer work as the Kent County coordinator of the Reach to Recovery Program. She also was recognized in 1988 by the Dover Air Force Base Hospital for her work in establishing the base's "Health Care Finder Program" and had been an active volunteer at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital from 1984 until January 2000.
After moving to Westminster Village, she served as a member of the Food Committee and of the village's "Town Meeting," and later, as a patient, she continued to assist others in breast-cancer care. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Dover and a member of the Dover Century Club.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Martin, in January 2002.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and William Biagini of Needham, Mass.; and two granddaughters, Kathryn Biagini and Lauren Biagini, both of Needham.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover.
Eucharistic services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Christ Episcopal Church, State and Water streets, Dover.
Burial will be in Christ Church Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Westminster Retirement Village, 1175 McKee Road, Dover, DE 19904; or to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Du Pont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.

Jean Hutter McNichols, 89
DOVER - Jean Hutter McNichols, of Dover, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 89.
Mrs. McNichols was born April 23, 1913, in Perkasie, Pa., daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Albert Peters and Xenia L. Helfrich.
She studied at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from Florida International University.
Mrs. McNichols worked in accounting and was credit manager for a hotel in Key Biscayne, Fla. She was dental office manager for her first husband, the late Dr. George Hutter, who had lived in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and law office manager for her second husband, the late Walter J. McNichols, who had lived in Palm Harbor, Fla. She was a member of People's United Church of Christ in Dover.
Mrs. McNichols was active in volunteer work at Luther Towers in Dover.
She is survived by a son, George Hutter of Wilmington; two daughters, Marilyn Hutter Taylor of Dover and Dr. Margery Hutter Silver of Boston; two stepsons, Walter McNichols Jr. of Avon, N.Y., and Brian McNichols of Clearwater, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 8 p.m. Monday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends and family may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Shriners' Hospital for Children, 2900 Locky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607-1460.

August I. Pianka, 95
MILLSBORO - August I. Pianka, of Oak Orchard, near Millsboro, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in Harbor Health Care Nursing Home, Lewes. He was 95.
Mr. Pianka was valedictorian of his high school graduating class and a graduate of the University of Delaware.
He had retired from work as a supervisor in shipbuilding and boatbuilding.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Brice Allen Pianka, Roland Pianka and Weldon Pianka.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Ola Bennett Pianka; three nephews, Tommy Markle, Bill Pierce and Bob Pierce; two nieces, Valorie and Lisa; two granddaughters; and four grandsons.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Frankford chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Frankford.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral chapel.
Burial will be in St. George's Cemetery, Clarksville.

Ivan Scott, 81
MAGNOLIA - Ivan Scott, of Magnolia, died of complications of cancer Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in his home. He was 81.
Mr. Scott was born April 19, 1921, in Liggett, Ky., son of the late Elisha and Susan Marie Scott.
He received his bachelor's degree at the University of Maryland and his master's in counseling from the University of Southern Illinois.
Mr. Scott served in the U.S. Air Force for 27 years and retired as a senior master sergeant.
He then spent 12 years as a social worker for the state of Delaware. He worked for Independent Living for a short period of time.
He was a lover of art and music. He lived out his beliefs and was a man of integrity. He was a firm believer in education. His hope was that the work he has done would speak for him. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Scott was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, the Dover Modern Maturity Center, the American Legion in Wilmington, Masonic Lodge 711, AF&AM, in Fairborn, Ohio, Honorary Order of Kentucky Colonels, Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio Rabboni Chapter 232 (50-year member). He was the 1973-74 Order of DeMolay Chapter Dad, and was an usher at Chapel II, Dover Air Force Base.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ina Marie Scott of Magnolia; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Linda Scott of Jacksonville, N.C.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sheliah and Don Kline and Beth Scott, all of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, Creede Scott of Phoenix, Ariz., and Earl Scott of Cincinnati; a sister, Lorene Henze of Cincinnati; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Kline, Daniel Kline and Jennifer Carney, all of San Antonio, Patrick Lyons of Bella Vista, Ark., and Thomas Scott and Holly Scott, both of Jacksonville; three great-grandchildren, Scott Bartlett, Caitlyn Carney and Breanna Carney, all of San Antonio; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, during which time there will be Masonic services and American Legion honors.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Dover Air Force Base Chapel II, Dover.
Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Thelma M. Suydam, 75
MILLSBORO - Thelma M. Suydam, of Millsboro, died of natural causes Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 75.
Mrs. Suydam was born in Columbia, Pa., daughter of the late Charles R. and Gladys Jones Bushong.
She had moved to Sussex County from Mountville, Pa., in 1997. She had formerly worked at Alcoa in Lancaster, Pa., for eight years, then was employed as a packer for the Totes Co. in Lancaster, Pa., retiring in 1985.
Mrs. Suydam loved gardening and traveling.
She was a former member of First English Lutheran Church in Columbia.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Howard Suydam of Millsboro; a daughter, Beth A. Suydam of Millsboro; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kirk D. and Vickie Suydam of Lancaster and Thomas C. Suydam of Mountville; a twin sister, Dorothy Brooks of Millersville, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Kristie, Kelli and Mark.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church, Concordia Road, Columbia. The Rev. Thomas Rundell, pastor, will officiate.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

Florence Elizabeth Willey, 85
SMYRNA - Florence Elizabeth Willey, of Smyrna, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in the Delaware Home and Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Smyrna. She was 85.
Miss Willey was born Dec. 29, 1917, in Centreville, Md.
She had been a longtime resident of the Delaware Home and Hospital.
Miss Willey was never married.
She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Kennard and Laura Melvin.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in the Pastoral Care Chapel of the Delaware Home and Hospital, where prayers will be offered at 10:45 a.m.
Burial will be 1 p.m. Monday in the Centreville Cemetery, Centreville.
Arrangements by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.
