Betty A. Hastings, 72
SEAFORD - Betty A. Hastings of Seaford died Sunday, March 9, 2003, in her home. She was 72.
Mrs. Hastings was the daughter of the late G. Ray and Martha L. Hastings.
She was a graduate of Milford Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. She retired from Nanticoke Memorial Hospital as an Operating Room Nurse in 1993 after 36 years.
Mrs. Hastings was a member of Elizabeth Circle of Mt Olivet United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Webster Hastings in 1996; and two sisters, Jane G. Elliott of Laurel and Helen H. Mason of Seaford.
She is survived by a brother, G. Lee Hastings of Laurel; two nieces, Susan Mason of Seaford and Sally Evans of Elizabethtown, Pa.; and two nephews, Russell Elliott of Laurel and Richard Hastings of Delmar, Md.
Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St. Seaford, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.
Instead of flowers the family suggests donations to Mt Olivet United Methodist Church, 315 High Street, Seaford, DE 19973.

Margaret R. Lenhoff, 86
LAUREL - Margaret R. Lenhoff of Laurel died Saturday, March 8, 2003, in her home. She was 86.
Mrs. Lenhoff was a magistrate for the state of Delaware for a four-year term. She was a freelance news writer for the Wilmington Morning News, the Journal-Every Evening and the State Register.
She loved reading, knitting and crocheting.
Mrs. Lenhoff was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 19 for 33 years where she was publicity chairman for 14 years, kitchen treasurer for 22 years and received recognition on the national level and from the Department of Delaware for serving as Publicity Chairman. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church since 1939 and was Past President of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality and a member of the Laurel Guild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George William Lenhoff Sr. in 1982.
She is survived by her son, G. William Lenhoff Jr. of New Castle; a daughter, Rita Condon of Salisbury, Md.; a brother, Carl Ryan of Wilmington; a sister, Betty Jane Lehane of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Mark Lenhoff of New York City, Michelle Woodbridge and Maureen Wenner, both of Wilmington, Monica Hooks of Salisbury, Md. and Stephany Lewis of Atlanta, Ga.; and six great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Stein Hwy, Seaford.
Friends may call at the Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St, Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Seaford.
Instead of flowers the family suggests donations to Compassionate Care Hospice, 5610 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE, 19808.

Harold John 'Mac' McDonald, 92
PHILADELPHIA - Harold John "Mac" McDonald of Philadelphia formerly of Harrington died Saturday, March 8, 2003, in Philadelphia. He was 92.
Mr. McDonald was born in Edgewater, N.J., son of the late John V. and Mary (Eichoff) McDonald.
He was a graduate of Edgewater High School in Edgewater, in 1929 and received his bachelor's degree from Trenton State Teachers College, now known as the University of New Jersey, in 1933.
Mr. McDonald started his teaching career in Delaware at Selbyville High School in 1945. He transferred to Harrington High School in 1946 where he established the business department. While at Harrington High School, he coached baseball, cross country, basketball, football and soccer. He had the privilege of winning several league championships in baseball and won two state championships in cross country. When Lake Forest High School opened, he transferred there, heading the business department until his retirement in 1972. After his retirement, he traveled with his wife Jeanne McDonald throughout North America and Europe.
In his spare time, he liked gardening. He grew roses for Star Roses in Kennett Square, Pa. At one time, he had over 40 rose bushes around his home.
Mr. McDonald was active with the Harrington Alumni Association and never missed an alumni banquet. He served as president of the Harrington Rotary Club in 1950.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne in 1998.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James J. and Barbara J. McDonald of Live Oak, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Michael Sklaroff of Philadelphia, Pa.; five grandchildren, Sean and Kevin McDonald of San Antonio, Sara Sklaroff of Washington, D.C. and Samuel and Miranda Sklaroff of Philadelphia, Pa.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the McKnatt Funeral Home, 50 Commerce Street, Harrington, Del.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Henlopen Memorial Park, Rt. 1, Milton, Del.
Instead of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Friends of the Harrington Library, 110 Center Street, Harrington, DE 19952.

Sarah Shockley Parkhurst, 77
SEAFORD - Sarah Shockley Parkhurst of Seaford died of natural causes Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, in Peninsula General Hospital. She was 77.
Mrs. Parkhurst was born Aug. 1, 1925, to the late Mae Elizabeth (Christopher) Shockley and James G. Shockley.
She was a humanitarian who enjoyed helping others. She never met a stranger.
Mrs. Parkhurst enjoyed crossword puzzles, staying active, and was an avid reader.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by Fred Parkhurst; a daughter, Patty; six brothers; and three sisters.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Linda Parkhurst of Greenwood, Neil and Nancy Parkhurst of Delmar, Md. and Bruce and Miriam Parkhurst of Seaford; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mike and Christine Mills of Greenwood and Barbara and Donald Jester of Milford; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
Burial services will be private.
Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 600 Dupont Highway, Suite 201-A, Georgetown.

Margaret 'Pete' Rials, 71
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Margaret "Pete" Rials of Champaign died, after a lengthy illness, Monday, March 3, 2003, in her home. She was 71.
Mrs. Rials was born Aug. 17, 1931, in Dover, Del., daughter of the late William C. and Bessie V. Barrett.
She attended schools in the Wilmington, Del., area.
She spent most of her adult life as a military housewife, raising her four sons and enjoying her grandchildren.
Mrs. Rials, prior to her illness, loved going to the casinos, going to yard sales and going back to Delaware to visit her family there.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Don C. Rials; four sons; James Melvin of Donaldson, Ark., William Melvin of Loveland, Colo., and Don D. Rials and Michael Rials, both of Champaign; a sister, Emma Wilson of Dover; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews in Delaware that loved her and will miss her very, very much.
Services and burial were private.

Ronald C. Stranix, 65
MILLSBORO - Ronald C. Stranix of Millsboro, formerly of Douglassville, Pa. and Feasterville, Pa., died Sunday, March 9, 2003, in the Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 65.
Mr. Stranix was born in Philadelphia, son of the late William and Margaret Stranix.
He was a veteran and served in the Navy and the 101st Airborne.
Mr. Stranix retired from Calbar, Inc. of Philadelphia in 2000 and moved to Delaware.
He loved golfing, fishing, and hunting.
Mr. Stranix was a former member of the Springford Country Club in Royersford, Pa., a member of the Shawnee Country Club of Milford, the Color Guard of American Legion Post 28 of Oak Orchard/Riverdale, and a former board member of the I.C.R.I. Association. He was also a member of the Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Oak Orchard.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Joan Stranix; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Jennifer Stranix of New Jersey and Ronald Jr. and Donna Stranix of Pennsylvania; a step son, Joel Kroliski of Ohio; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Mary Stranix and Richard and Margaret Stranix all of Pennsylvania; and six grandchildren,
Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Mary Mother of Peace Church, Oak Orchard.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to the Memorial Plaque Fund, c/o Joan Stranix, 175 Teal Drive, Millsboro, DE 19966 or to the Home of Brave Foundation, 6632 Sharps Road, Milford, DE. 19963.

Mary E. Tavani, 66
SMYRNA - Mary E. Tavani of Smyrna died Saturday, March 8, 2003, in Christiana Hospital, Christiana. She was 66.
Mrs. Tavani was born Nov. 22, 1935 in Wilmington, daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Blackburn Hodross.
She worked as a unit secretary for Christiana Medical Center for 25 years until retiring in 1997.
Mrs. Tavani was also involved in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Delaware Volunteer Fireman's Association.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband, Frederick Tavani in 1999.
She is survived by three sons, Frederick J. Tavani Jr. of Lake Grove, N.Y., William J. Tavani of Newark, and Ralph E. Thompson of Wilmington; a sister, Pat Owen of Elkton, Md.; two granddaughters, Ashley and Courtney Freach; and a nephew, Carlos Owen.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
