Edward Paul Bakley, 88
FELTON - Edward Paul Bakley of Felton died of natural causes Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in his home. He was 88.
Mr. Bakley was born April 15, 1912, in Livingston, N.J., the son of the late Josephine Stephans and Edward Bakley.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, receiving the rank of staff sergeant.
Mr. Bakley was a member of the American Legion for 36 years.
He was a self-employed carpenter, retiring at age 70.
He was an avid sportsman and especially enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Edna Bakley; two sons, Robert Bakley of Dover and Clifford Bakley of New Jersey; three daughters, Pamela Bakley of Albuquerque, N.M., Arlene Gevaza and Kathy Wasserbach, both of New Jersey; and eight grandchildren.
A committal service will be 1 p.m. today at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Chapel, Millsboro.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Tri State Bird Rescue and Research, 110 Possum Hollow Road, Newark, DE 19711.

Edward Wilson Coulbourn, 78
SEAFORD - Edward Wilson Coulbourn of Seaford died of pneumonia Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, in Life Care at Lofland Park, Seaford. He was 78.
Mr. Coulbourn was born in Seaford, the son of the late Charles and Adelia Wheatley Coulbourn.
He was a self-employed farmer and chicken grower, retiring in 2000. Prior to that, he was co-owner of C&G Trucking; before that he drove a truck for Service Trucking, Federalsburg, Md.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn Bailey Coulbourn; two sons, Donald Coulbourn of Seaford and Richard Coulbourn of Federalsburg; three daughters, Sue Ann Ellis of Seaford, Jo Ann Slacum of Bridgeville and Gail E. Nagel of Federalsburg; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front and King streets, Seaford, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Oak Grove.

Rose R. Lane, 82
DOVER - Rose R. Lane of Dover died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, in her home. She was 82.
Mrs. Lane was born Oct. 1, 1918, in Baltimore, the son of the late Louis and Christine Reno.
She and her late husband were produce dealers in Smyrna for many years. After his death in 1980, she enjoyed helping her son run the family produce stand in Little Creek.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norwood, and a son, Louis.
She is survived by a son and his wife, Gerald and Jeraldine Lane of Little Creek; a brother, Louis Reno of Millsboro; a sister, Jennie Dileonardo of Wilmington; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great great-grandchild.
A remembrance service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. C. Evans will officiate.
Burial will be in Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Dover

Linden J. Panuska, 50
MILTON - Linden J. Panuska of Milton died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in his home. He was 50.
Mr. Panuska was born Feb. 23, 1950, in Milford, the son of Evelyn King Panuska of Georgetown and the late James Panuska.
He was in the National Guard.
Mr. Panuska was an accountant for Intervet, Millsboro, for the past 16 years.
He enjoyed NASCAR.
Mr. Panuska was a member of White's Chapel United Methodist Church, Milton.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Chad, in 1996.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 12 years, Kathaleen Hastings Panuska; a daughter, Megan Panuska of Milford; a stepdaughter, Traci Goldberg of Millsboro; and a brother, Wayne Panuska of Georgetown.
A service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in White's Chapel Cemetery, Milton.

Winifred M. 'Winnie' Passwaters, 84
MILFORD - Winifred M. "Winnie" Passwaters of Milford died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in her "storybook" home. She was 84.
Mrs. Passwaters was born in Milford, the daughter of the late Alfred B. and Sallie Walls.
She worked in the Milford area all her life for many different companies, including W.T. Grant Co., Woolworth's, the Mullholland Spoon Mill, the pickle plant and Humes Hardware.
Mrs. Passwaters enjoyed writing poetry and songs, and had three songs published and copyrighted, "Crybaby" "Don't Grow Old Alone" and "My Wedding Day." She also enjoyed arranging flowers, solving crossword puzzles and playing cards and games. Thursday nights became Canasta Nights with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Ida Mae Leyanna, in 1972; her husband, James P. Passwaters, in 1978; and her son, James A. Passwaters, in 1997.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, L. Boaz and Joan Passwaters of Milford; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dot and Len Leyanna, Nita and Jack Stratton, and Barbara Kemp-Starkey and Wayne Starkey, with whom she lived, all of Milford; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Passwaters of Milford; a son-in-law, Joe Leyanna of Wilmington; 13 grandchildren, Debbie Anderson, Len Leyanna, Brenda Hallstead, Judy Stratton, Karen Elzey, Tracy Bogan, Jim Passwaters Jr., Matthew Passwaters, Shannon Kincade, Trisha Webb, Bobbi Jo Kemp, Kathy Kemp and Tanya Passwaters; one step-granddaughter, Samantha Starkey; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
A service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

Anthony Pieshala, 83
SADDLE BROOK, N.J. - Anthony Pieshala of Saddle Brook died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in Daughters of Miriam Rehabilitation Center. He was 83.
Mr. Pieshala was born Aug. 28, 1917, in New Jersey, the son of the late Harry and Veronica Pieshala.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
He was a former Saddle Brook councilman and had been executive director of the Saddle Brook Senior Center. Before retiring in 1981, he was president of ANCUR Textile Printing Co., East Newark.
Mr. Pieshala was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Deborah Heart and Lung Foundation. He also was a member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Slovak National Catholic Cathedral, Passaic, where he had been past president.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Maryann Pieshala, in 1994.
He is survived by a son, Richard A. Pieshala and his wife, Diedra, of Camden, Del.; a daughter, Maryann Pieshala of Mahwah; a sister, Theresa Tomporowski of New Jersey; and two grandchildren, Amanda B. Pieshala of Camden and Steven A. Pieshala and his wife, Erin, of Harrington, Del.
A service was held Wednesday in Clifton.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, In Memory of Anthony Pieshala, 911 S. Du Pont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.

Harold R. Schriver, 94
MANHEIM, Pa. - Harold R. Schriver of Manheim died of natural causes Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Lancaster Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Schriver was born in Glen Rock, York County, the son of the late John B. and Mary J. Hunt Schriver.
He graduated from Glen Rock High School in 1924, and Gettysburg College in 1928. He later received his master of arts degree from Columbia University Graduate School in 1948.
A high school teacher most of his working life, he began his teaching career at Littlestown High School in 1928. While there, he taught math, chemistry and physics, and was head coach of all the sports teams, including men's and women's basketball, men's baseball, and track. In 1936, he began teaching at the former Mount Rose Junior High School, York, where he taught all the math courses until 1948. He then moved to Dover, Del., where again, he taught math at Dover High School for two years. While in Dover, he began working for the Curtis Publishing Co. of Philadelphia. Employed as a school plant representative, he provided programs for students to sell magazine subscription, with sales benefiting schools and extracurricular activities. He worked for Curtis Publishing for 15 years, retiring in 1964. Later that year, he resumed teaching in the math department of the Manheim Central School District, until his retirement from teaching in 1972. During his tenure with Manheim Central, he was involved in various advisory positions, aiding student activities and helping with tutoring homebound students for the district. He also was active with the foreign-exchange program at the school.
A resident of Lancaster County since 1952, Mr. Schriver was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Joy, where he served as clerk of the session and as church elder. A member and past president of the Landisville Lions Club, he was involved in the Deaf Children's Program, and learned sign language to promote the club's activities. A member and past president of the Gettysburg College Alumni Association, Lancaster County, he was awarded the Alumni Meritorious Service Award in 1983, and the Alumni Association Service Certificate in 1969. He was a former director of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Lancaster, and former member of the Sales Executive Club, York County. He also was a Boy Scout leader while living in York.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel C. Schriver, on Aug. 5, 2000; five brothers, Maurice, Norman, John, Russell and Clarence Schriver; and four sisters, Minnie Neuhaus, Anna Moessinger, Lillie Gladfelter and Marea Eyster.
He is survived by two sons, H. James Schriver and his wife, Ann Gingrich Schriver, of Selinsgrove, and C. Bernard Schriver of Manheim; two grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Sheetz Funeral Home Inc., 16 E. Main St., Mount Joy.
A service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Joy, 7 Marietta Ave., where friends also may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dr. Robert S. Burns and the Rev. Arthur E. Gladfelter will officiate.
Burial will be in the Manheim Fairview Cemetery.

Yvonne M. Arcidiacono, 67
MILLSBORO - Yvonne M. Arcidiacono of Millsboro, formerly of New Castle and Delaware City, died Monday, April 7, 2003, in Lewes. She was 67.
Mrs. Arcidiacono was the daughter of the late James F. Trefney and Anna Gardiner Trefney.
She was a trust officer at Delaware Trust Bank for 37 years.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Louis W. Arcidiacono; four sons, James F., Michael, Louis II and Anthony; a daughter, Annette Marcinnzyn; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery South Chapel, Millsboro.

BRIDGEVILLE - Nadine Belle Holder Christley of Bridgeville died from cancer Saturday, April 5, 2003, in her home. She was 61.
Mrs. Christley was born in Rohersville, Md., daughter of the late Maurice and Marie Hines Holder.
She was a housewife.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Argyle Lee Holder.
She is survived by her husband, William John Schmidt Jr.; six sons, Richard L., Nathan L. and Dudley A. Christley, all of Perryville, Md., Frank M. Christley of Havre de Grace, Md., Thomas I. Christley of Bridgeville and William J. Schmidt III of Greenwood; four daughters, Carrie C. Huber of Stewartstown, Pa., Candice M. and Shannon K. Christley, both of Havre de Grace and Winter N. Christley of Seaford; and four stepchildren, Lynn Hignutt of New Castle, Bruce Schmidt of Charlotte, N.C, Kimberly Riddle of Gumboro and Wanda Muse of Bel Air, Md.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Wesley United Methodist Church, Atlanta Road, Seaford. The Rev. Ed Kuhling will officiate.
Burial will be private.

Henrietta McCubbin Davis, 88
CECILTON, Md. - Henrietta McCubbin Davis of Ceclton died Monday, April 7, 2003, in Union Hospital, Elkton from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was 88.
Mrs. Davis, a lifetime Cecilton resident, was born July 29, 1914, daughter of the late Stanley and Emma Brown McCubbin.
She graduated from Goldey Beacom College, Wilmington, Del.
She worked for County Banking and Trust in Elkton for 25 years as head teller.
Mrs. Davis was a member of St. Stephen's Church and the Lower Cecil County Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll C. Davis, in 1965.
She is survived by her cousin, Robert Brown of Cecilton; and two cousins once removed, Myra Brown of Chesapeake City and C.M. Brown of Glenwood, N.J.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 10 Glebe Road, Earleville.
The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

Emma Kootwijk Dolan, 51
MILTON - Emma Kootwijk Dolan of Milton died of lung cancer Monday, April 7, 2003, in her home. She was 51.
Mrs. Dolan was born Dec. 19, 1951, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, daughter of the late Jacob and Angie (Middelkoop) Kootwijk. She lived in The Netherlands for over 40 years before marrying and moving to the United States.
She is survived by her husband, Brian F. Dolan; a brother, Arie W. Kootwijk, and his companion, Rodica Harabagiu, both of Amsterdam; a sister and brother-in-law, Tini (Kootwijk) and Henk van Santen of Monnickendam, The Netherlands; a stepdaughter, Melissa L. Dolan of Englewood, Colo.; and a niece and nephew, Marlou van Santen and Martyn van Santen, also of The Netherlands.
Services will be private.

Helen Ewing McCann, 75
DOVER - Helen Ewing McCann of Dover died Monday, April 7, 2003, in the Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 75.
Mrs. McCann was a divisional manager for Avon products in Newark.
She was an avid Phillies fan and a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. McCann was a member of the Delaware's Business Woman's Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Donald J. McCann, in 2002.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Betsey McCann of Denver, Colo. and Timothy and Martha McCann of Doylestown, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law, Kate Frederick Rokosz and Randy Rokosz of Middletown; two sisters, Jean Lowe of Newport, Pa. and Ruth Hake of Bradenton, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Darin McCann, Brett Lehl, Travis McCann, Tyler McCann, Clare McCann, Madeline McCann, Chelsea Frederick and Karli Frederick; and a great-grandson, Gary Lehl.

John E. Pinson, 78
OCEAN VIEW - John E. Pinson of Ocean View died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 78.
Mr. Pinson was a retired ironworker for Local 451. He helped manage the tackle store at the Indian River Marina after his retirement.
He was an avid bowler and loved fishing.
Mr. Pinson was a 32-degree Mason and a member of Hiram Lodge 21 in Seaford.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, H. Maxine Pinson; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary and Bobbi Pinson of Seaford and James Pinson of Ocean View; a sister, Ruth Wysong of San Diego, Calif.; two grandchildren, Judith Brewer of Laurel and Michael Pinson of LaVerne, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St., Seaford, where friends may call one hour earlier. Masonic services will be held at 1:45 p.m.

PONDTOWN, Md. - Helen V. Shorter of Pondtown died Sunday, April 6, 2003, in University Specialty Hospital, Baltimore, Md. She was 68.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Pondtown, where friends may call two hours earlier. The Rev. Etta Mae Moore will officiate.

BARNEGAT, N.J. - Doris M. Spence of Barnegat died Monday, April 7, 2003, in her home with family and friends. She was 76.
Mrs. Spence was born Dec. 28, 1926, in Petersburg, Del., to the late Victor and Myrtle (Walls) Arrington. She moved to New Jersey in 1955.
She was an executive secretary for Murray Construction in Springfield for many years. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Sgt. Roger J. Spence, in 1969.
She is survived by her husband, Roy J. Spence of Barnegat; two sons, Dennis J. Spence of Sarasota, Fla. and Roy C. Spence of Clark; a daughter, Pamela M. Sampson of Howell; a brother, Victor L. Arrington of Kingsport, Tenn.; a sister, Josephine Rash of Felton, Del.; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Remembrance services will be noon Friday in Trader Funeral Home in Dover, Del., where friends may call two hours earlier.

Edward Charles Tillman, 51
MILTON - Edward Charles Tillman of Milton died Friday, April 4, 2003, in his home. He was 51.
Mr. Tillman was born Jan. 29, 1952 in Shellman, Ga., son of the late Walter Allen Sr. and Cleolar Tillman.
He attended public school in Randolph County, Ga. before coming to Delaware in 1972.
Mr. Tillman worked for Draper King Cole for many years until the plant closed in 1999.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ella R. Tillman and Willie Bell Lightner (Willie James) and two brothers, Willis C. Tillman Jr. (Burlene) and Eddie B. Tillman.
He is survived by five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Mamie Lee and Fred Martin of Cuthbert, Ga., Janie M. and Haven Welis of Milton, Rosemary Green of Salisbury, Md., Waylene Tillman and Betty and Cornelious Brown of Cuthbert, Ga.; six brothers and three sisters-in-law, J.W. and Lee Ethel Tillman, Gene and Christine Tillman, Buddie C. and Annie Doris Tillman, Sammie Tillman and Billy Tillman, all of Cuthbert, Ga., and Rochester Tillman of Milton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial services will be noon Friday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 274 N. Rehoboth Blvd., Milford.
Burial will be in Old Hickory Cemetery, Slaughter Neck.

Irene Z. Walker, 77
MILLSBORO - Irene Z. Walker of Millsboro, formerly of Newtown, Conn., died Monday, April 7, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 77.
Mrs. Walker was a loan officer for Union Trust Bank in Bethel, Conn. for more than 28 years.
She enjoyed gardening and reading.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, William G. Walker; two sons and a daughter-in-law, George Walker of Apache Junction, Ariz. and Jonathan and Nicole Walker of Durham, N.H.; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy L. and William Carter of Dagsboro; four grandchildren, Patrick Walker, Sheena L. Carter, Reed M. Carter and Devin L. Carter.
