Virginia Lee Perrus, 72
FRANKFORD - Virginia Lee Perrus of Plantation Park, Frankford, died of natural causes Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 72.
Mrs. Perrus was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.
She is survived by her husband, Photius Frank Perrus of Frankford; a son, Jim Perrus of Fulton, Md.; two daughters, Helen Hottle of Fulton and Christina Beaulieu of Titusville, Fla.; a brother, John Romans Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two half-brothers, Jerry Smith of Roderfield, W.Va., and Bill Smith of Atlanta; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren,
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. today at Parsell Funeral Home & Crematorium, Clarksville Chapel, Del. 26 & Del. 17, Clarksville.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Lung Association, Delaware Chapter, 625 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901.

Edgar Lee Broyles Jr., 73
MILFORD - Edgar Lee Broyles of Milford died Monday, March 24, 2003, in Milford Center. He was 73.
Mr. Broyles was born March 25, 1929, in Murfreesboro, Tenn., son of the late Edgar Lee and Ella D. Denton Broyles.
He was a trooper with the Delaware State Police, leaving the force in 1964. He entered the transportation field after that and was a truck driver for several Delaware-based companies. He was also employed as a chauffeur for Bay Trans in Harrington, a bus driver for Jor-Lin Tour and Charter in Milford and trans-ported vehicles as requested for Hertrich Ford.
He served with the Delaware National Guard for 20 years.
Mr. Broyles was a member of the Milford Elks Lodge 2401 and was a charter member of the Lewes Elks Lodge 2540.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Leilani Broyles of Wilmington; two daughters, Deborah Broyles of Milton and Christine Austin of Milford; a sister and brother-in-law, Martha Jean and Jimmy Walker of Nashville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Amy Culver, Brian Broyles and Dustin Broyles.
Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday in Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Avenue, Milford.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Stein Highway, Seaford.
Burial will follow the service there.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to your favorite charity.

Joseph William Davis, 82
MILLINGTON, Md. - Joseph William Davis of Millington died Sunday, March 23, 2003, in his home. He was 82.
Mr. Davis was born in Centreville, son of the late Joseph Nathaniel and Mattie R. Goodman Davis.
He was a World War II Veteran. He served as a medic and received a Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars for his service to our country.
Mr. Davis worked for Crown, Cork & Seal as a fork lift operator until his retirement in 1972.
He was a proud veteran and enjoyed his fellowship with other veterans and sharing stories of wartime experiences. Memorial Day and the 4th of July were very special to him and he tried not to miss a remem-brance service. He also was fond of his friends at his daily stops for coffee hour. He enjoyed friends and family and working and doing odd jobs around his home.
Mr. Davis was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 652, Millington and Jeff Davis American Le-gion Post 18, Centreville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Davis, in 1996.
He is survived by two step sons, Wesley R. Squires of Grasonville and Edward L. Anderson, Jr. of Lusby; a step daughter, Faye Robinson of Church Hill; an aunt, Pearl Wiggins of Chestertown; five step-grandchil-dren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St., Millington, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Crumpton Cemetery, Crumpton.
Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Eastern Shore Chapter, 1358 Parsons Road, Salisbury, MD 21801.

John Frank Scott II, 42
SMYRNA - John Frank Scott II of Smyrna, formerly of Pennington Gap., Va., died after a long illness Saturday, March 22, 2003, in his home. He was 42.
Mr. Scott served in the U.S. Army.
He was a mover for Delaware Piano Co. and O'Dell in Virginia.
Mr. Scott loved playing his guitar, watching wrestling and being around people.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Christina Marie Scott.
He is survived by his wife of four years, Thomasena M. Jones Scott of Smyrna; a son, John Frank Scott III of Newark; a daughter, Michaela Cheyenne Scott of Smyrna; his parents, Harold J. and Martha E. Bockman Scott Sr. of Dover; two brothers, Joseph H. Scott of Dover and Harold J. (Jamie) Scott of Smyrna; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marti and David Witmer of New Castle and Michelle Reese of Smyrna; a maternal grand mother, Maratha M. Bockman of New Castle; a mother and father-in-law, Vicki and Kenneth Jones of Dryden, Va.; a sister-in-law, Jessica (Curly) Parsons of Pennington Gap, Va.; a brother-in-law, Tim and his wife Tammy Jones of Tennessee; 13 nieces and nephews, with special men-tion of "Pooper Man," "Kissi-fur" and "The Grizman"; Uncle Benny and Frankie; several uncles and aunts and cousins, with special mention of his special friends Joseph and Dolores Brown, Julie and Mark Hes-ter, the Cathleen Davison family, Debbie Bonello, Tracy Schaum, Jim and Barbara Bierman, the O'Dell family of Pennington Gap, Va, Michelle and Dolores of Flatwoods, Va.; and the Pierce family of Jonesville, Va.
Services will be noon Friday in the Trader Funeral home 12 Lotus St., Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
Instead of flowers the family suggest donation to Delaware Hospice 911 Lotus Plaza, Dover.

Nyla Jeanette Jones Speicher, 72
WOODSIDE - Nyla Jeanette Jones Speicher of Woodside died Monday, March 24, 2003, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was 72.
Mrs. Speicher was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Jones. She was raised in Greenwood and Lancaster, Pa. by the Zook family until her adulthood. She then resided in Sandtown for many years.
She retired from Milford Center working as a nurse.
Before her illness in 2000 she enjoyed going to Spence's Bazaar, being with her friends, crabbing, fishing and having barbecues with her family. She also enjoyed crafts and playing bingo.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Jacob Daniel and Daniel Eugene, and a sister, Ellen Pinder. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and came in contact with her.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Manuel and Sherry Speicher of St. Thomas, Mi-chael Speicher of Smyrna and David and Darlene Speicher of Magnolia; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a nephew.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Berry Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Greenwood Mennonite Cemetery, Greenwood.

Calender 'Cal' Whidden, 83
GEORGETOWN - Calender 'Cal' Whidden of Georgetown died Saturday, March 22, 2003, in the Harrison House, Georgetown. He was 83.
Mr. Whidden was born Jan. 21, 1920 in Brooklyn, N.Y.
He enlisted with the seventh regiment of the U.S. Army at the age of 20 after working at Queens County Savings Bank for two years. After attending OCS at Camp Davis, North Carolina, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He served as harbor entrance control post officer at Fisher's Island in New York Har-bor from 1942 to 1946, when he left active duty and joined the U.S. Army Reserve. He retired from the Army Reserve in 1980 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
He married Virginia Coho Sept. 1, 1945 and they made their home in Douglaston, N.Y., while he returned to Queens County Savings Bank and worked in the commercial loan department until his retirement in 1981. They moved to Georgetown in 1988.
Mr. Whidden was a member of American Legion Post 8 and of Wesley Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1997; his sister, Dorothy Ask, in 1995; and his brother, Howard Whidden, in 1977.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Dodd-Carey-Chapel, 307 North Bedford Street in Georgetown.
Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to Wesley United Church, Race and Laurel Streets, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Jon A. 'Billy' Byris, 56
SEAFORD - Jon A. "Billy" Byris of Seaford died Sunday, March 18, 2001, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 56.
Mr. Byris was born Feb. 19, 1946, in Baltimore, the son of James Hall and Daisy V. Thomas.
He is survived by his sister, Mildred D. Hands of Moore, Okla.; and a brother, Arrice Monroe of Leonardtown, Md.
Memorial service were held at The Living Waters Evangelistic Church in Easton, Md.

Vera Ellen Curtis
MILLSBORO - Vera Ellen Curtis died of natural causes Friday, March 23, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Ms. Curtis was the daughter of Robert Dale and the late Lelia Drummond-Dale.
She was a former student at Millsboro High School.
Ms. Curtis was employed by Econo Lodge in Rehoboth Beach.
In addition to her father, she is survived by seven sisters, Glendora Falcon, Linda Dorsey, Cynthia Smack, Juanita Taylor, Edith Bowen, Ida Bowen and Sharon Johnson; 12 brothers, Kendall Dorsey, Sylvester Dorsey, Gregory Dorsey, Timothy Dorsey, Calvin Dorsey, Robert Dorsey, Terry Dorsey, Gary Dorsey, Alexander Dorsey, Timothy Drummond, William Drummond and James Drummond; seven children, Fotina Curtis, Tammi Smith, Stacey Curtis, Wayde Curtis, Justin Curtis, Vera Curtis and Ronada Curtis; 13 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, Dae'Jiahya Curtis; four brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; two sons-in-law, Donald Lee Sturgis Jr. and Torres A. Smith; a daughter-in-law, Kristen Morris; a devoted companion, Tommy Sample; an aunt, Cordelia Hopkins; three uncles, Josiah Isler (Brenda), John Dale George and Harold Houston; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pilgrim's Ministry of Deliverance, Georgetown, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. The Rev. Ivory L. Hopkins will officiate.

Lambert W. 'Bert' Davis III, 69
CECILTON, Md. - Lambert W. "Bert" Davis III of Cecilton died Sunday, March 25, 2001, in Newark, Del. He was 65.
Mr. Davis was born March 20, 1932, the son of the late L. Wickes Davis Jr. and Louise Spear Davis.
He resided, for his entire life, on the Gibson Green Farm, where he farmed with his father.
Mr. Davis was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and had served on its vestry.
He is survived by three sisters, Mary Louise Davis of Cecilton, Elizabeth Keefer of Elkton and Jane Gibson of Lewes, Del.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Glebe Road, Earleville.
Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery,
