CLAYMONT - Dorothy A. Comegys of Claymont, formerly of Dover, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, in Franciscan Nursing Home, Wilmington. She was 91.
Mrs. Comegys was born June 23, 1911, in Baker Range Rear Light on Del. 9 near Port Penn, daughter of the late Harry and Sophia (Anold) Spencer Sr. She grew up at Liston Range Rear Light and Liston Range Front Light.
She was a telephone operator with Diamond State Telephone Co., and also at Kent General Hospital in Dover and in the Civil Service at Dover Air Force Base.
Mrs. Gomegys was a member of Modern Maturity Senior Center and Harvest Years Senior Center, both in Dover.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth Clay, Laura Carroll and Harriet Piser.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and George Maris of Claymont; a brother, Harry E. Spencer Jr. of Lewes; two grandchildren and the wife of one, Glenn and Janice Maris of Bear and Jeffrey Maris, New York; and four great-grandchildren.
Remembrance services will be noon Monday in Trader Funeral Home in Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Modern Maturity Center, 1121 Forrest Ave., Dover, DE 19904; and/or to Harvest Years Senior Center, 21 Saulsbury Road, Dover, DE 19904.

Iva Donovan, 93
SMYRNA - Iva Donovan of Smyrna died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, in Delaware Home and Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Smyrna. She was 93.
Ms. Donovan was born Feb. 14, 1909.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Slaughter Neck Cemetery in Slaughter Neck.

Mary Emily Gniecko, 88
DENTON, Md. - Mary Emily Gniecko of Denton died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, in the William Hill Manor in Easton. She was 88.
Mrs. Gniecko was born in Denton, daughter of the late Grant Alburger and Emily Joiner Alburger. She bad lived in Denton all her life.
She was a graduate of Caroline High School in Denton.
Mrs. Gniecko had, for many years, been the Deputy Register of Wills for Caroline County. She retired in 1978.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Gniecko on June 1, 2002; their son, William P. Gniecko, in 1954; and a brother, Charles Terry Alburger.
She is survived by two nieces and their husbands, Frannie and Clarence Baynard and Phyllis and Mervin Towers, all of Denton: five great-nephews and the respective wives of three, M. Grant Towers, Michael and Cindy Towers, Jeff Towers and Guy and Barb Baynard, all of Denton, and Bobby and Linda Baynard of Federalsburg; three great-nieces and their respective husbands, Vicki and Dale Williamson of Cordova and Jackie and Ray Butler and Terry Ann and Ricky Lord, all of Denton; 14 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and two great-great-great-nieces.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Denton Cemetery.

William E. Hammond Jr., 71
DAGSBORO - William E. Hammond Jr. of Dagsboro died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, in his home. He was 71.
Mr. Hammond was born in Dagsboro, son of the late William E. Hammond Jr. and Clara Steele Hammond.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Hammond most recently worked for Bunting and Bertrand Inc. for 10 years as a poultry-equipment installer, retiring in 1999.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Annette "Babe" Johnson Hammond; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Debbie and Steve Hickman and Duane and Glen Marvel, all of Dagsboro; two brothers, Asher Hammond and Albert Steele, both of Dagsboro; three sisters, Ruth Shockley of Millsboro, Margaret Myers of Oxford and Florence Atkins of Angola; three grandchildren, Ethan Hickman, Brandon Marvel and Nicole Marvel; and his best friends, Calvin and Dolores Long of Newark and Burton and Rosalie Toomey of Millville.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Leroy Weymouth and the Rev. Frank Long will officiate.
Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery South, near Millsboro.

Jean Christine Hill, 83
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Jean Christine Hill of Chestertown died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in her home. She was 83.
Mrs. Hill was born Dec. 23, 1918, in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Kilpatrick Wise.
She graduated from Southern High School in Philadelphia.
Mrs. Hill worked as a real estate agent. She worked in this capacity for over 30 years and upon retirement in November of 1974 she worked with King's Real Estate in Kingsville, Md.
Mrs. Hill was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Bel Air, Md., the Bel Air Moose Lodge, the Garden Club in Bel Air, Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post 436 Ladies Auxiliary, Chestertown, Md. and Trinity Lutheran Church in Chestertown. She received many awards for real estate development.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward J. Spille, who died in 1940, and her second husband, James L. Hill, who died in 1978. A son also preceded her in death, Robert Hill in November of 1974.
She is survived by a daughter Carolyn Norris of Chestertown, Md.
Funeral Liturgy will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Margaret's Catholic Church, Bel Air, Md. Burial will be in Bel Air Memorial Park.

Cora Alfree Hilyard, 87
SMYRNA - Cora Alfree Hilyard of Smyrna died of heart failure Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Alfred M. Moor of Smyrna. She was 87.
Mrs. Hilyard was born Aug. 27, 1915, near Warwick, Md., daughter of the late Fred and Ethel Money Alfree.
She worked in occupational therapy and physical therapy for years at the Delaware Home and Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna before retiring in 1978.
She enjoyed traveling, visiting her many friends and family and playing cards with the local ladies card club.
Mrs. Hilyard was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Smyrna.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth V. Alfree.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Harold Hilyard; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara D. and Alfred M. Moor Jr. of Smyrna; a grandson, "Freddie" Moor of Smyrna; and a great-grandson, Sidney Moor of Clayton.
Services will be 3 p.m. Monday in Asbury United Methodist Church, 2224 W. Mount Vernon St., Smyrna, where fiends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Middletown.

Roscoe Cleveland Lecates, 63
LAUREL - Roscoe Cleveland Lecates of Laurel died of a heart attack Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. He was 63.
Mr. Lecates was born in Dover, son of the late Luther and Lois Shockley Lecates.
He served in the Delaware National Guard.
He had been plant manager at Rombro Bros., Delmar, Md., before retiring. Prior to that, he worked for Salisbury Manufacturing in Salisbury for 15 years, where he was cutting room manager.
Mr. Lecates was a member of American Legion Post 19, Laurel, and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Salisbury.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Stewart Lecates; four sons, Wayne Cater, Rocky Lecates and Randy Lecates, all of Laurel, and Ricky Lecates of Seaford; two daughters, Karen Martin of Camp Hill, Pa., and Wendy Lecates of Laurel; two brothers, Gardner Lecates and Willard Lecates, both of Laurel; three sisters, Janice Cecil of Laurel, Betty Fitzgerald of Seaford and Dixie Scholtes of Frederick, Md.; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, daughters-in-law and sons-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front and King streets, Seaford. The Rev. Joe Schiren will officiate.
Burial will be in Blades Cemetery, Blades.

Frances B. Sellers, 80
MILLSBORO - Frances B. Sellers of Millsboro, formerly of Reading, Pa., died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. She was 80.
Mrs. Sellers was born in Reading, the daughter of the late Milton and Irene Fisher.
She was a seamstress for the U.S. Navy during World War II.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Sellers was a member of the Indian River Yacht Club's Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Irvin L. Sellers; three sons, Bruce Sellers, Ronald Sellers and Donald Sellers; four sisters, Dorothy Bingaman, Ruth Stieff, Mary Kurtz and Sara Kurr; six grand-sons, Michael, Nicholas, Eric, Gregory, Nathan and Brett; and two great-granddaughters.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Melson Funeral Services on Long Neck Road, near Millsboro.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday in the Laureldale Cemetery in Laureldale, Pa., where friends also may call one hour earlier.

Edna Miriam Cole Tappan, 104
DELMAR - Edna Miriam Cole Tappan of Delmar passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2003, in Harbor Healthcare in Lewes. She was 104.
Mrs. Tappan was born in Smiths Grove, Ky., daughter of the late George H. and Phoebe Cole.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Tappan was a member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar, Order of the Eastern Star ADA Chapter 5 in Delmar, Md., and the American Legion Auxiliary in Delmar.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Tappan.
She is survived by two daughters, Katherine Schneller of Lewes and Miriam Asher of South Gate, Mich.; a stepson, Harry T. Tappan of Gloucester, Va.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove St., Delmar, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Dr. John Randolph will officiate.
Burial will be in Parksley Cemetery Parksley, Va.

Alfred Benjamin 'Ben' Turpin, 59
PRESTON, Md. - Alfred Benjamin "Ben" Turpin of Preston departed this life Friday, May 2, 2003, in the Shore Rehabilitation Center, Denton. He was 59.
Mr. Turpin was born July 26, 1943, in Preston, son of the late Alfred Benjamin Turpin and Maggie LeAnna Moore Turpin.
He attended the public schools of Talbot County.
Mr. Turpin was last employed as a longshoreman at the Port of Wilmington until he became ill and could no longer work.
He met and married Barbara Elaine Brown Aug. 20, 1966.
Mr. Turpin loved the outdoors and all nature had to offer. He loved to fish and he was a pretty good cook. He was very creative and good with his hands. He had a real passion for music and he especially liked the percussion instruments.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Baron Turpin, Brent Turpin and Alfred Turpin III, all of Wilmington and Darren Nichols of Philadelphia; a daughter, Cheryce Goodman of Kent, Wash.; a sister, Jean L. Turpin Brummell of Wilmington; four brothers-in-law, Wendell E. Brummell of Wilmington, Royce Murray of Williamsburg, Va., William Brown of Denton and Thomas Perry of Washington, D.C.; three sis-ters-in-law, Joyce Perry of Washington and Deidre Ringgold and Gloria Brown, both of Denton; three daughters-in-law, Stacia, Shellda and Wanda; a son-in-law, Eddie Goodman of Kent; 14 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.

Maurice Jaylan 'Lil Peanut' Wilson, infant
SEAFORD - Maurice Jaylon 'Lil Peanut' Wilson of Seaford died Saturday, May 3, 2003, in A.I. du Pont Hospital, Wilmington. He was an infant.
Maurice was born March 29, 2003, in Christina Hospital, Newark, the son of Larry M. Wilson II and An-gie Tolliver, both of Seaford.
From the first day of his journey into this world, he fought strong each day until God said no more, "it's time to fly home". He was a miracle baby.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ashley Monique Wilson in August 2000, and a grandfather, Ervin L. Tolliver.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Larry M. Wilson III of Seaford; five sisters, As'spen, Erykah, Khaili, Tiara, Ciara Wilson, all of Seaford; his grandparents, Patricia Batson of Seaford and Larry M. Wilson Sr. of West Palm Beach, Fla. and George and Gwendolyn Sturgis of Bridgeville; his great-grandparents, Adeline Thompson of Bridgeville, Annie Mae Tolliver of Pensacola, Fla., Goldie Walker and Gray Walker, both of Seaford and Richard Cannon of Bridgeville; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Olive Church, Bridgeville, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Dr. James W. Egan, M.D., 77
OCEAN VIEW - James W. Egan, M.D., of Ocean View, and formerly of Washington, died of cancer Monday, May 7, 2001, in his home. He was 77.
Mr. Egan was born in Jersey City, N.J.
He graduated from Holy Cross College and Georgetown University Medical School.
He served as a U.S. Army officer in the late 1940s before starting practice in the early 1950s in Arlington, Va. He later joined the U.S. Public Health Service for the National Institutes of Health and worked in Salt Lake City from 1953-55 examining uranium miners for possible links to developing cancer. He returned to the Washington area and set up an internal medicine practice in Bethesda, Md., and later expanded his practice to include oncology.
He worked at Providence, Sibley, Holy Cross and Suburban hospitals. He was past director of the tumor clinic at Providence, past chairman of the tumor board and past vice chairman of the medical staff at Suburban, and served for a year as chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at Sibley.
He was a member of the American College of Physicians and former member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He was a founder, past president and for many years a member of the board of directors of Washington Montessori Institute. He retired in 1987. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, where he served as an eucharistic minister.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Helen Devereux Egan; two daughters, Eleanor E. Harris and Helen Ann Wagner; three sons, James W. Egan Jr., Joseph D. Egan, and Thomas Egan; and 14 grandchildren.
Friends may call from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Avenue in Ocean View.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Del. 28, Bethany Beach.
Burial will be in the St. Georges Cemetery, Clarksville.

Johnnie Earl Calvin Goodman, 61
MARYDEL - Johnnie Earl Calvin Goodman, of Marydel, died Monday, May 7, 2001, in his home near Marydel. He was 61.
Mr. Goodman was born Aug. 26, 1939, in Lafayette, Ind., son of Charles and Ollabella (Newkirk) Goodman.
He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the U.S. Marines.
He was a supervisor at the Essex Wire Co.
Mr. Goodman was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Donnis Ann Goodman of Marydel; four sons, Jonathan Goodman of Logansport, Ind., Tyrone Goodman of Lafayette, Bryan Goodman of Akron, Ohio, and Benjamin Goodman of Savannah, Ga.; two daughters, Robin Lynn Goodman of Healdsburg, Calif., and Donnis Rottet, of Lafayette; a brother, C. Frank Goodman of Lafayette; two sisters, Amanda Stivers, of Denver, and Beverly Merrick of Independence, Mo.; and 12 grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Trader Funeral Home in Dover.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Katherine Hicks, 85
LONG NECK - Katherine Hicks, of Long Neck, died Monday, May 7, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 85.
Mrs. Hicks was born in Paterson, N. J., daughter of the late Ralph and Josephine Hoebee.
She was a school bus driver from 1956-70, serving the Saddle River (N.J.) School District,
Mrs. Hicks was a member of the Lutheran Church of Ramsey, N.J., the ladies' auxiliary of Henlopen Elks 2540, and toured as a musician with "Major Bowes Amateur Hour."
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Walter Hicks; a son, Thomas R. Hicks, of Oakland, N.J.; a daughter, Patricia Lewis, of North Brunswick, N.J.; a brother, Joseph Hoebee, of New York; a sister, Connie DeGregorio of Ridgefield, N.J.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. today at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, in Long Neck.
Burial will be in the Henlopen Memorial Park in Milton. Pastor Craig Lins will officiate.

Winifred 'Winnie' Bruton-Hovington, 78
Washington - Winifred "Winnie" Bruton-Hovington, of Washington, formerly of Felton, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, in George Washington University Hospital, Washington. She was 78.
She was preceded in death by the late Franklin Hovington.
She is survived by five devoted children, Wayne Bruton Sr. and his wife, Jean, Beverly A. Robinson, Denise Vincent and her husband, Frank, Franklin Hovington and his wife, April, and Kimberly Hovington; a sister, Eleanor T. Coffey; an adopted son, Gary Crawford; an adopted daughter, Debbie Summers-Townsend; a devoted friend, Evelyn David; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchild-ren, two great-great-grandchild-ren; and other relatives and friends.

Edmund Karcher Lindemuth, M.D., 76
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Edmund Karcher Lindemuth, M.D., of Chestertown, died Friday, May 4, 2001, in his home. He was 76.
Mr. Lindemuth was born Jan. 27, 1925, in Reading, Pa., the eldest son of the late Edmund Karcher Sr. and Wilma W. James Lindemuth.
He was a 1943 graduate of Wyomissing High School. He attended Lafayette College from 194345.
Mr. Lindemuth served in the U.S. Army until 1947, when he was honorably discharged.
He returned to Lafayette College and in 1949 graduated with a bachelor's degree. While in college he was a member of Phi Rho Sigma and Phi Gamma Delta fraternities. Dr. Lindemuth then attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, from 1949-53. He served as a resident in pediatrics at Children's Hospital in Honolulu from 1954-55.
Dr. Lindemuth served as a lieutenant at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Minneapolis and as a U.S. Navy physician from 1955-57.
He served as chief medical resident at Franklin Hospital in San Francisco, Calif., from 1961-64, and received his master's degree in public health from University of California- Berkley in 1965. Dr. Lindemuth moved to Bucks County, Pa., where he worked with the Bucks County Health Department and served as director from 1967-69. He then served as director for Orange County Health Department in Orange County, Calif., from 1969-72. He returned to Bucks County and resumed his position as director of the county health department from 1972 until his retirement in 1986. He retired to Chestertown in 1989.
He enjoyed gardening, traveling, and music.
Dr. Lindemuth was a member of the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Bucks County Medical Society, a fellow of the American Public Health Association, a fellow of the Pennsylvania Public Health Association, a member of the Association for Management in Public Health, and as a Korean War veteran was a member of Bucks County Veterans of Foreign Wars
He is survived by a brother, James D. Lindemuth, of Ocean Grove, N.J., and his companion and friend of 23 years, Melvyn Charles Schofield, of Chestertown.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Chestertown.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to the Kent County Humane Society, P.O. Box 352, Chestertown, MD 21620.
