Louis B. Sanders, 80
DAGSBORO - Louis B. Sanders of Dagsboro died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. He was 80.
Mr. Sanders was born in Baltimore, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis C. Sanders.
He was an U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, where he served in the Signal Corps in the South Pacific.
He worked for C&P Telephone for 42 years. He first worked in the Baltimore area then was transferred to the Eastern Shore/West Ocean City office, where he retired as a manager in 1982.
Mr. Sanders was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, American Legion 28, Oak Orchard Riverfale, and Kiwanis Club of Loch Raven, Towson, Md. he was also a charter member of Televets of Baltimore City, and was a founding member of the Baltimore Telephone Credit Union, now known as the Atlantic Financial Federal Credit Union in Hunt Valley, Md.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth H. Deputy Sanders; a son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Leslie Hugel Sanders of Dagsboro; two granddaughters, Joell Bacchieri and Prudence Wilson and two great-grandchildren, Leo and Max Bacchieri.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro.
Graveside services will be noon Wednesday in the old St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Kent County, Sandy Bottom Road, near Chestertown, Md.

Thelma Carter Taylor, 83
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Thelma Carter Taylor of Chestertown died Oct. 28, 2002, in the home of her niece. She was 83.
Mrs. Taylor was born March 13, 1919, in Rock Hall, Md., daughter of the late Harry and Annie Gadd Carter.
She was a lifetime resident of Kent County where she worked as a telephone operator for C&P Telephone Co. in Chestertown, and for 27 years she was a local Avon representative retiring in 1990. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Quaker Neck Homemakers.
Mrs. Taylor was proud of her grandfather, William Thomas Carter, who was a Civil War Union solider wounded at Gettysburg.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Charles 'Buck' Taylor; three brothers, Franklin, Harry L. and Irvin Carter; and a sister Leona Bennett.
She is survived by her son, W. Faron Taylor and his wife Laura of Whiteford, Md.; a sister, Bertha Gears and a niece Betty Lou Taylor, both of Chestertown.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech 118 W. Cross St. Galena, Md.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church, High Street, Chestertown, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Chester Cemetery.

Myrtle Elliott Collins, 89
GEORGETOWN - Myrtle Elliott Collins of Georgetown died Sunday Oct. 27, 2002, in the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 89.
Mrs. Collins was born in Georgetown, daughter of the late Charles H. and Georgia Rogers Elliott.
She retired in 1976 after 27 years as a cafeteria manager in the Indian River School District.
Mrs. Collins was a life-long member of the providence United Methodist Church, near Georgetown, The Midland Grange 27, Georgetown where she served as secretary-treasurer for several years and was a board member of the southern state co-operative.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ashland Collins, in 1967.
She is survived by a son, Louis D. 'Bud' Collins of Georgetown; a daughter, Barbara C. Glover of Seaford; a brother, Ralph R. Elliott of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Kelley Boyce, Karla Mears, Judith Spencer and JoAnn Evans; two step-grandchildren, Cyndy Glover and Gwen DiCarlo; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Robert Howell will officiate.
Burial will be in Millsboro Cemetery.

Frank A. Domyan, 84
ANAWALT, W.Va. - Frank A. Domyan died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in his home. He was 84.
Mr. Domyan was born April 8, 1918, in Pageton, son of the late Alex and Anna Horvath Domyan. He was a resident of McDowell County all of his life.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in World War II as a T/5 COA of the 401 Airborne Infantry with the 101st Airborne Division.
He was a retired coal miner from Page Coal and Coke in Pageton with 24 years of service.
Mr. Domyan was a member of the Church of Our Lady of Victories in Gary.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
He is survived by a sister, Ann DeMarie of Dover, Del.; a niece, Kathy Churchey; three nephews, Jim Hewes, David Hewes and John DeMarie; and a great-nephew, James D. Hewes.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Cravens-Shires Funeral Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, where friends may call one hour earlier. Father Thomas Tran will officiate.
Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where military graveside services will be conducted by the Mercer County Veteran's Council.

Samuel E. Gourley, 73
MAGNOLIA - Samuel E. Gourley of Magnolia died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in Green Valley Pavilion, Smyrna. He was 73.
Mr. Gourley was born Sept. 6, 1929, in Wyoming, son of the late Gilbert and May Gourley.
He is a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Gourley was a self-employed painter in Kent County.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping.
Mr. Gourley attended both the Dover and the Middletown Seventh Day Adventist churches.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Gourley, in 1993.
He is survived by his son, Edward Gourley of Felton; two stepsons, Robert Byrd and Denny Byrd, both of Elsmere; four brothers, Hugh Allen Gourley of Jacksonville, Fla., Gilbert Ronald Gourley of San Bernardino, Calif., Joseph W. Gourley, Sr. of Magnolia and John M. Gourley of Viola; three sisters, June Nance of Dover, Jean Waiters of Dover, and Phyllis A. Simpson of Caraway, Alaska.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Torbert Funeral Chapel. 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Rachel Reynolds Haley, 66
GALENA, Md. - Rachel Reynolds Haley of Galena died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, in Union Hospital, Elkton. She was 66.
Mrs. Haley was born on Feb. 11, 1936, in Marshallton, Del., daughter of the late William H. and Helen Stradley Reynolds and stepdaughter of the late Elizabeth 'Betty' Walls Reynolds. Mrs. Haley was raised in Middletown, Del.
She graduated from Middletown High School in 1954. She was a 1958 graduate of Madison College.
Mrs. Haley taught for two years in Pennsylvania and from 1960 to 1967 at Chestertown High School as a home economics teacher. She also worked 11 years for Tidewater Publishing, Centreville, Md.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Donald Haley; a son, Jeff Haley and his wife, Missie, of Galena; and four grandchildren, J.R. and Timmy Walls, and Shannon and Alan Haley.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Dennis R.C. Church, Galena.
Burial will be in Galena Cemetery.

Barbara V. Hearn, 79
SEAFORD - Barbara V. Hearn of Seaford died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in Seaford Center-Genesis Eldercare. She was 79.
Mrs. Hearn was born in Phoebus, Va., daughter of the late Nathaniel and Daisey White.
She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Hearn; and five brothers, Frank, Paul, James, and Nathan White and William Powell.
She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis J. Glenn of Lake City, Fla.; a son, Joseph A. Prokopika of Wiesbaden, Germany; four grandchildren, Colin Glenn of Lake City, Carmen Prokopika, Carrie Prokopika and Kelly Prokopika all of Wiasbaden, Germany; seven step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Short Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Roland Tice will officiate.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Laurel.

Adele C. Veasey, 84
MILLSBORO - Adele C. Veasey of Millsboro, formerly of Georgetown, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, in Green Valley Terrace, Millsboro. She was 84.
Ms. Veasey was born in Georgetown, daughter of the late William and Edith Calloway.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters, Alice Fay Statler and Wendy L. Holloway, both of Georgetown and two grandsons, Keith Statler of Bethany Beach and Shawn Steele of Millsboro.
Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Sunday in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.

Dale R. Hopkins, 43
DOVER - Dale R. Hopkins of Dover died Sunday, May 25, 2003, in his home. He was 43.
Mr. Hopkins was born in Mount Holly, N.J.
He was a Navy veteran.
He worked at Harrison's Paving in Dover.
Mrs. Hopkins was a member of the Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward R. "Buster" Hopkins.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta (Wilson) Hopkins; his mother and stepfather, Carole and William Harrison of Dover; two sons, Dale Hopkins Jr. and Jason Borntrager, both of Dover; a daughter, Christina Hopkins of Dover; a stepson, Martin of Dover; four brothers, Donald Hopkins of New Egypt, N.J., William Harrison of Magnolia and Henry and Rowdy Harrison, both of Dover; four sisters, Linda Turki of Michi-gan, Lisa Wilson of Magnolia, Debbie Hammond of Bel Air, Md. and Carol Jean Harrison of Bear; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main St., New Egypt, where friends may call two hours earlier. The Rev. Henry Harrison will officiate.
Burial will be in Brotherhood Cemetery, Mt. Holly.

William Pritchett McDaniel, 80
DOVER - William Pritchett McDaniel of Dover died Saturday, May 24, 2003, of cardiac arrest while working at home. He recently celebrated his 80th birthday with family and friends.
Mr. McDaniel was born May 11, 1923, in Philadelphia, son of the late Dr. Joseph S. and Mary Pritchett McDaniel.
He attended Dover High School and regularly participated in reunions with the Dover High School class of 1941. He graduated from Fishburne Military School in 1942 and attended the University of South Caro-lina, later serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Following his discharge from the Navy in 1946, Mr. McDaniel began building custom homes in the Dover area. This led to a career in real estate sales, brokerage and development. During the 1960s he was a car-pentry Shop teacher at Dover High school for four years. He also owned and operated Del-Mar-Va Pool Distributors, later Manorwood Pools and Manorwood Realty.
His varied hobbies included flying, photography, woodworking and the history of Dover. Mr. McDaniel's photographs of Dover have been featured on the covers of past issues of the Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce Information Book.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. J. Stites McDaniel.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Hill McDaniel; a son and daughter-in-law, William P. II "Chip" and Ginger McDaniel of Milford; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary M. and John Harbeson and Patricia M. and R. Clay Foltz, all of Dover; seven grandchildren, Holly Reynolds, Rebecca Cronk, Matthew Harbeson, Brian McDaniel, Katelyn, Caroline, and Alec Foltz; a great-grandson, Garrett Reynolds; and a nephew and niece, Joseph S. McDaniel III and Melinda Palmer, both of Dover.
Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover. A gathering of family and friends will be one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Christ Churchyard, Dover.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Wesley United Methodist Church, Jeremiah II Fund, 209 South St. Street, Dover, DE 19901.

Helen G. Mills, 95
DOVER - Helen G. Mills of Dover died Friday, May 23, 2003. She was 95.
Mrs. Mills was born in Hopewell Township, N.J.
She was a 1927 graduate of Rider College.
She was a teacher in Frenchtown, N.J., and Chesapeake City, Md., and worked for the DuPont Co. in Wilmington, retiring in 1972.
Mrs. Mills was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, AARP and the Modern Maturity Center of Dover.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Mills Sr.
She is survived by a son, James M. Mills Jr. of Dover; seven grandchildren, Lauren, James, Sarah, Helen, Corey, Bryan and Sean; a nephew, Hartwell Vannoy of Hopewell, N.J.; and a niece, Peggy Rosa of Newark.
Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Highland Cemetery.

John H. Schiefer, 51
DOVER - John H. Schiefer of Dover died Sunday, May 25, 2003, in his home. He was 51.
Mr. Schiefer was born in Philadelphia, son of Robert C. Schiefer of Dover and the late Catherine Xavier Schiefer.
He moved to Dover with his parents at an early age and graduated from Dover High School in 1970. He also attended Burlington Community College, New Jersey.
He served in the U.S. Army National Guard.
Mr. Schiefer worked for the Delaware Department of Correction in Smyrna, where he served as a corpo-ral until illness forced his retirement in 1999.
He was a dedicated husband, father and loving grandfather who enjoyed his family and in his quiet mo-ments enjoyed reading.
Mr. Schiefer was a former active member of the American Legion, Walter L. Fox Post.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, James W.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 31 years, Linda E. of Dover; three daughters and sons-in-law, AnnMarie and Charles Young Jr. of Dover, Christina and Kevin Eames of Lincoln and Tara and William Evans Jr. of Townsend; three brothers, Robert of Florida, Michael of Minnesota and Matthew of Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Carrie and Karen Young, William and John Badger, William Evans III, McKenna Eames and Emily Jane Evans; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 South State St., Dover.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Burial will be private.

James Wiley, 62
HARRINGTON - James Wiley of Harrington died Friday, May 23, 2003, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 62.
Mr. Wiley was born in Milford, son of the late Edward and Emma Phillips Wiley. He lived most of his life in Harrington.
He was employed as an equipment operator for the state of Delaware, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Wiley was a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge 543 and also a member of the Harrington American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Theresa Wiley; three step daughters and two step sons-in-law, Cathy and Steve Murray of Dagsboro, Joann and Mark Hammond of Frankford and Belinda Stuper and her friend, Danny Butler, of Bridgeville; two brothers, William Wiley of Milford and Richard Wiley of Ellendale; a sis-ter, Doris Walls of Huntsville, Ala.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Frederick M. 'Butch' Anderson, 60
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - Frederick M. "Butch" Anderson of Pompano Beach, formerly of Newark, Del., died of a heart attack Wednesday, May 23, 2001, in Broward General Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. He was 60.
Mr. Anderson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He had previously worked for James Julian Construction Co. in Wilmington, Del., and, at the time of his death, he was working as a hotel-maintenance supervisor.
He is survived by his mother, Frances Paul of New Castle, Del.; a brother, William Anderson of Harrisburg , Pa.; a sister, Frances George, also of Harrisburg; two half brothers, David Paul of Richmond, Va., and Michael Paul of Dover, Del.; three half sisters, Margaret Bowser of Middletown, Del., Dorothy Ryan of Harmans, Md., and Ruth Falvo of Utica, N.Y.; an aunt, Dot Stroman of Pennsylvania; a cousin; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Del.

Dorothy Lewis Bryant, 87
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Dorothy Lewis Bryant died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Heron Point in Chestertown. She was 87.
Mrs. Bryant was born in Bayonne, N.J., the daughter of Frances and Leonard H. Lewis.
She graduated from St. Aloysius Academy, Jersey City, and attended Columbia University, New York City.
Mrs. Bryant worked for the National Broadcasting Co. in New York City before her marriage to Frederick B. Bryant and moved to the Washington, D.C., area in 1941. From 1965 to 1991, she worked as office manager for Dr. Margaret J. Rioch, a well-known clinical psychologist. In 1991, Mrs. Bryant and her husband moved to Chestertown.
She was the mother of two and a retired homemaker.
Mrs. Bryant served as a Red Cross volunteer at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda for 21 years. She also was a longtime member of the Chevy Chase Women's Club, where she was active in the drama section and served in a number of positions in the club, including membership chairman, recording secretary and publicity chairman.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years in 1994.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Bryant and Christy Bryant Bumanis, both of Washington; and by nephews and nieces in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada and Virginia Beach, Va.
Memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Wesley Hall at Heron Point.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, PO Box 17447, Baltimore, MD 21298-9104.

Joseph Alexander Dombroski, 76
GREENSBORO, Md. - Joseph Alexander Dombroski of Greensboro died of natural causes Saturday, May 26, 2001, in Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was 76.
Mr. Dombroski was born Aug. 10, 1924, in Monmouth County, N.J., son of the late Alexander and Stephania Konopka Dombroski.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a self-employed farmer for most of life. He also was a foreman in the road-construction industry.
Mr. Dombrowski was a member of the St. Benedict Catholic Church of Ridgely.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeanne Barham Dombroski; a daughter and son-in-law, Diana E. Dombroski Curley and Robin Curley Sr. of Henderson; three sisters, Jane Carbone, Sadie Peterson and Ann Dacy, all of Monmouth County; two grandchildren, Robin Curley Jr. and Jeannie Parker, and Jeannie's husband, Matt Parker, all of Greensboro; and five great-grandchildren, Jamie Curley, Jessica Curley, Joshua Curley, Ashley O'Conner and Sean Parker.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Fleegle-Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro, and from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, N.J.
