Betty Jean Jones
Betty Jean Jones, 83, of Trenton, Florida, died Friday, July 2, 2004, in Gainesville.
She was born in Bell, Florida, and was a lifelong resident of Gilchrist County. She was a homemaker and a member of Jennings Lake Seventh Day Adventist Church.
A graveside service was held on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at 11:00 am at Jennings Lake Cemetery in Trenton, with Pastor Marvin Williams officiating. The family received friends from 3 to 5 pm on Monday, July 5, 2004 at Watson Funeral Home.
Ms. Jones is survived by her son, Franklin D. Jones of Old Town, FL; caregiver George Jones of Trenton, FL; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were under the care of Watson Funeral Home, in Trenton, Florida, 426 W. Wade Street, (352) 463-8888.
Elvin Tyrone Mathews

Mr. Elvin Tyrone Mathews, 36 of Bell, Florida, passed away July 4, 2004, n Trenton. He was a lifelong resident of Gilchrist County.
A member of Priscilla Baptist Church, Mr. Mathews was also a correctional officer, a member of the Florida Peace Officers Association, and a part of the Emergency Response Team with the Department of Corretions. He also was a founding member and lead guitarist in the band, Crosstyz.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 9, 2004, at Priscilla Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Priscilla Baptist Cemetery. Rev. Ray Scott, Brother Billy Philmon, and Revs. Paul Willie Watson will officiate. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, July 8, 2004 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Mr. Mathews was preceded in death by his father, Elvin Lee Mathews.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Paulling Mathews of Bell, Fl; his mother, Yvonne Rolling Mathews of Bell, FL; two daughters, Ashton and Samantha Mathews, both of Bell, FL; three sisters, Tawnya Jenkins, Terry Carnley, and Tiffany Liles, all of Bell, FL; and his paternal grandparents, Nancy Jo and Tom Paulling, Sr., both of Bell, FL.
Arrangements are under the care of Watson Funeral Home, Trenton, Florida, 426 Wade Street, (352) 463-8888.

Nita Gail Carrington Ginn
Ms. Nita Gail Carrington Ginn passed away on July 19, 2004, in Hixson, Tennessee. She was 87 years of age.
Ms. Ginn was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edward and Mary Ellen Carrington, grandson, Johnny Neil Brown, sister, Olive Davis, brothers, Buddy and Glenn Carrington, niece, Pat Scott, and nephew, Daniel Hardin.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Carrington of San Antonio, Texas; her great-grandsons, Waylon Hastings and Taylor Dooley of Boerne, Texas; her sisters, Bambi Carrington, Judith F. Hardin, Peggy Scott, and Patricia (Toy) Heape; her brothers, Guy (Anna Mary) Carrington and Gene (Bev) Carrington; 26 nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews, including godson Brandon Denley.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, July 24, 2004, at 11:00 am, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cross City, FL, with Father Ed Murphy officiating. Burial will follow at the Cross City Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 23, 2004, between the hours of 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the care of Rick Gooding Funeral Home in Cross City, FL, US Hwy 19, (352) 498-5400.

Tracey Lynn Fajardo
Ms. Tracey Lynn Fajardo, sister of Eileen Patterson of Old Town, Florida, passed away early Saturday, July 17th, morning, at her home in Brooklyn, New York, following a prolonged illness. At her side was her partner, Angel Cruz.
Ms. Fajardo was a homemaker and lived in Old Town, Florida, for a short time. She attended the Church of the Holy Rest in New York City, where her service will be held on Tuesday, July 27th, at 4:00 pm.
She is survived by three sisters, Eileen Patterson, Gayle Lane, and Cheryl Fajardo, along with a number of nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Elizabeth Mills
Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Mills of Cross City, FL, passed away on July 14, 2004, at North Florida Regional Hospital. She was 71 years of age. Mrs. Mills was a homemaker and a member of the Suwannee River Baptist Church of Old Town, FL.
Mrs. Mills is survived by her husband, Roy Mills of Cross City, FL; sons Kenneth (Peggy) Mills of Cleveland, TN, and Thomas Mills of Cross City, FL; daughters Helen (Davis) Bennett of Mayo, FL, Linda (Dalton) Howell of Cross City, FL, Carol (Artie) Dutton of Hartselle, AL, Eva (John) Malone of Waynesboro, MS, Annette (Henry) Wilson of Cross City, FL, and Diana Moore of Chiefland, FL; sisters Leara Mae Thompson of Lake City, TX, and Bess Buckhaulete of Donaldsonville, GA; brothers
Sandford Herrington of Tampa, FL, and Ross Herrington of Goldendale, WA. She has 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 17, 2004, at the Suwannee River Baptist Church in Old Town, FL, with Rev. Bobby Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow at Cross City Cemetery. A visitation was held on Friday, July 16, 2004, between the hours of 6:00-8:00 pm at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home.
Arrangements were under the care of Rick Gooding Funeral Home in Cross City, FL, US Hwy 19, (352) 498-5400.

Veta Downing Carter
Mrs. Veta Downing Carter of Old Town passed away Friday, July 16, 2004, at Shands at the University of Florida. She was 75 years of age.
Born in Cross City, Mrs. Carter lived her entire life in Dixie County, where she raised her family and retired from the Florida Division of Forestry. She was a member of McCrabb Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WMU, and taught Sunday School and Bible School. Family and church were her life.
She is survived by her son, Nicky Carter of Old Town; her daughters, Carman Downing of Cross City, Yvonne King of Perry, Emily Perryman of Perry, and Lee Allie Kirkland of Cross City; brothers John L. Downing and Junius Downing, both of Cross City; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Junius and Olif Downing; and brothers, Wreat Downing, Leonard (Chuck) Downing, Lester Downing and James Downing.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 19, 2004 at 1:00 pm at New Prospect Baptist Church with Rev. David Downing and Rev. Billy Robson officiating. Burial followed at Old McCrabb Cemetery. A visitation was held Sunday, July 18th, between the hours of 6 and 8 pm at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home.
Arrangements were under the care and direction of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City, Florida, 352-498-5400.

Robert Eugene Locke
Mr. Robert Eugene Locke passed away on July 20, 2004, at Shands at the University of Florida. He was 45 years of age.
Mr. Lock was born in Willard, Ohio. He moved to Cross City from Orlando ten years ago, where he was a Carpet and Tile Installer.
Mr. Locke is survived by his wife, LaVaughn Locke of Cross City; parents Robert Locke of Mt. Pelier, OH, and Shirley Totman of Orlando; son Robert (Sandra) Locke of Cross City; daughters Maelynn Locke and Ruby (Richard) Eldridge of Cross City, and Hollie Locke of Old Town; sisters Rhonda Robinette of Old Town, Sandra Gordon of Orlando, and Mary Cottrell and Kathy Borgens, both of Apopka, FL; and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 25, 2004, at 2:00 pm, at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home. Burial followed at the Cross City Cemetery with Rev. Calvin Robinson officiating.
Arrangements were under the care of Rick Gooding Funeral Home in Cross City, Florida, 352-498-5400.
