Willie Duard Petty, Sr.
Mr. Willie Duard Petty, Sr. of Sanford, Florida passed away at his home on September 9, 2005. He was 89 years old. He lived in the Tri-County area until 1949 when he moved to Sanford, Florida. He was a security guard in the citrus industry and was also a packing house manager in Sanford for Southwood Fruit Company. Mr. Petty was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by one son Willie D. “Bill” Petty, Jr. of Daytona Beach; three daughters, Carole Dawes of Salem, Ohio, Judy Yates of Sanford, and Diane Jones of Orlando; one sister Pearl Gwynn of Ocala; 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Dora Futch Petty; sons Tharon Petty and infant children, and Aaron and his daughter Eileen.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, September 17, 2005 at 10am at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Royce Hanshew officiating. Burial followed at the Cross City Cemetery. A visitation was held Friday evening, September 16, 2005.
Arrangements are under the care of Rick Gooding Funeral Home of Cross City, Florida, 352-498-5400.

Ronnie L. Renfroe
Ronnie L. Renfroe, 63, passed away Friday, September 9, 2005 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Johnnie Renfroe.
Mr. Renfroe is survived by his lifelong mate, Leona Bergstrom; son Randall Renfroe of LaBelle, FL; two daughters, Cathy Cox and Libby Johnson of Key West, FL; two stepdaughters Tonya Bergstrom of Old Town and Marianna Bergstrom of Cocoa, FL; stepson Edward Bergstrom of Rockledge, FL; three sisters; one brother, and several grandkids.
There will be a private service for the family and friends on Saturday, September 24th at 11:00am at the First Assembly of God on CR 351.

Merrill “Dave” White
Merrill “Dave” White passed away on Friday, September 16, 2005 at his home in Old Town following an extended illness. He was born in Clearfield, Pennsylvania in 1935. He moved to Florida in 1962 and had been a resident of Old Town for 12 years. Dave served four years in the Air Force. He was a mechanic by trade and retired from Western Auto of Chiefland in 1998. His hobbies included wood working, writing songs, and he especially enjoyed making music with his friends and family members.
Dave is survived by his wife, Joyce White of Old Town. Other survivors include two sons, Mike White of Mesa, Arizona and Steve White of Warren, Ohio; daughters Joyce Ann Gage of Youngstown, Ohio and Laura Rogers of Fort Lauderdale; one surviving brother, Harry White of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters Emma Carter of Albion, New York, Millie Murray of Cortland, Ohio and a sister-in-law Esther White of Warren, Ohio; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 23rd at 2 o’clock at Rock Sink Baptist Church in Old Town with Rev. Terry Cranford officiating.

Lyda Eugenia Newman
Mrs. Lyda Eugenia Newman of Cross City died Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at Cross City Rehab after a lengthy illness. She was 95 years old. She was a member of the Church of God of Cross City and a lifetime resident of Dixie County. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by one son; J.J. Newman, Jr. of Jacksonville; grandson Jesse J. Newman, III of Jacksonville, great granddaughter Jessica Sikes of Hillard, FL; and brother Hal Chewning, Sr. of Cross City.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 23, 2005 at 2 PM at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ed Ivey officiating. Burial followed at the Cross City Cemetery. A visitation was held Friday, September 23, 2005.
Arrangements are placed in the care of Rick Gooding Funeral Home of Cross City, Florida, 352-498-5400.

Bessie L. Bell
Mrs. Bessie L. Bell, age 86, of Trenton, Florida passed away on Friday, September 23, 2005 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. Born in Williston, Florida, Mrs. Bell lived in Gainesville for 30 years, Old Town and Trenton. She was a homemaker, member of McCall’s Chapel United Methodist Church and member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Albert L. Bell.
She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Poole of Trenton, FL; son Marvis L. Bell of Melrose, FL; brothers, James Mikell of Cross City, FL and Ferrell Mikell of Branford, FL; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held Monday, September 26, 2005 at Watson Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 AM with Rev. Fred Taylor and Mr. Jamey Hinds officiating. A visitation was held Sunday, September 25, 2005.
Arrangements are under the care of Watson Funeral Home, Trenton, FL, 352-463-8888.

Emma Almon
Mrs. Emma Almon of Old Town passed away Monday, August 29, 2005 at her home. She was 85. Born in Trenton, Florida, Mrs. Almon moved to Tampa at the age of 8 and then returned to Old Town 15 years ago. She was a homemaker and mother and a member of the First Baptist Church of Cross City.
She is survived by daughters, Ewana Kaye Holtsclaw of Old Town and Becky Mercer of Tampa; 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Almon will be held Thursday, September 1, 2005 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Cross City with Rev. Mike Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Cross City Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, August 31, 2005 between the hours of 6 and 8 pm.
Arrangements have been placed under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City, Florida, 352-498-5400.

David Ray Brookins
September 8, 1977 – August 22, 2005
David Ray Brookins of Bronson, FL passed away in his sleep early in the morning of August 22, 2005 at the age of 27.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth M. Brookins of Fanning Springs, FL; 4 sons, David M. Brookins, Matthew J. Brookins and Isaac J. Brookins all of Trenton, FL and Benjamin J. Hawver of Cheboygan, MI; daughter Hannah E. Brookins of Trenton, FL; his father and step-mother Charles E. & Audra G. Brookins, Sr. of Bronson, FL; his mother and step-father Vince E. & Tamera M. Murman, of Trenton; 2 grandmothers, Alma L. Brookins of Bronson, FL and Virginia L. Weeks of Trenton, FL; step-grandparents John A. & Anita E. Creel, Sr. of Old Town, FL and Edward Murman & Jerri Thomas; brother Charles E. Brookins, Jr.; 2 step-bothers, Cpl. Millard B. Weeks, III of Trenton, FL and Spc. James M. Weeks of Old Town, FL; 2 sisters Anita M. Brookins of Bronson, FL and Sarah M. Murman of Trenton, FL; 4 aunts, Annie Rusk of Blairsville, GA, Sherry L. Ely of Monks Corner, SC, Denise Lingenfelter of Daytona Beach, FL and Kim Todd of Floral City, FL; 4 uncles, Glenn Brookins, Jr. of Homestead, FL, Michael Brookins, Sr. & Robert Brookins, Sr. both of Bronson, FL and John Creel, Jr. of Kathleen, GA; 2 nieces, many cousins, and many more family members including great grandparents, great aunts, and great uncles.
He was preceded in death by two Grandfathers, Millard “Bill” Weeks, Sr. and Glenn A. Brookins, Sr. and an Uncle Millard B. Weeks, Jr.
David has been a resident of Levy or Gilchrist County for most of his life. He attended Bronson Elementary School and Bronson and Trenton High Schools.
Services for David were held at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, Cross City, FL on Saturday, August 27, 2005 at 3:00 pm. The services will be officiated by David’s cousin and friend, Rev. Romona Murphy.
Arrangements are under the care of Knauff Funeral Home, Chiefland, FL, 352-493-4777.
