SAMMONS - Ruth E. Sammons, 87, of Jacksonville passed away Monday, January 22, 2001. The Greensboro, NC native had lived in Jacksonville for over 50 years. She was a member of Northside Presbyterian Church and had retired from the Classified Advertising Department of the Florida Times Union with over 25 years service. Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Robert ' Rusty' Sammons. Mrs. Sammons was the loving mother of two daughters, Ann (Frank) Campbell and Betty (John) smiley; a step daughter, Della Sammons; a son, Richard (Peggy) Lanier; Nana' of eight grandchildren, Johnny (Tina) Debile, Debbie (Mike) Staver, Kim (Chuck) Hewett, Dawn Easterling, David Smiley, Vicki (Bill) Rogers, Keith (Dedrie) Lanier, and David (Patty) Lanier and 11 great grandchildren; other survivors are her sister, Henretta Adams and brother Lawrence W. Everett, Jr. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of COREY-KERLIN FUNERAL HOME, 1426 Rowe Ave., with Rev. F. Ray Turner, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at Evergreen cemetery.

SOUD - Gilbert Soud, age 70, of Lake Placid, died on January 20, 2001 at Jacksonville. He was born August 12, 1930 at Jacksonville to Abraham Caliste Soud and Souritha Shediac Soud. He has resided in Lake Placid for the past two years where he attended 1st Baptist Church of Lake Placid. Gilbert is a former resident of Felda. He was self employed as a Dentist until he retired two years ago. Survivors include his wife, Juelda Soud of Lake Placid; sons, Chris and Carey Soud, both of LaBelle, and Steven Soud of Fort Myers; daughter, Andrea Skiera of Fort Myers; brothers, Salem and Victor Soud, and A. C. Soud Jr., all of Jacksonville, and nine grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held TODAY, Tuesday January 23, 2001, 10:30AM at Eastside Baptist Church in LaBelle with Reverend James Caves officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Denaud cemetery in LaBelle.

SWEAT - Buford E. Sweat, 90, passed away January 20, 2001. A native of Suwannee County, was born September 17, 1910 in Beachville, Suwannee County and moved to Live Oak, Florida at the age of 10. He retired from the the U. S. Postal Service in 1973, after serving honorably for 44 years. He was a former Elks member and charter member of the Suwannee County Historical Society and was very knowledgable in areas of History of Suwannee County. In his retirement years, he enjoyed his coin collection and photography. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church in Live Oak. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ouida Sweat; daughter, Ouida Frances Bell of Jacksonville; son, Charles Sweat, Sr. and his wife, Linda of Live Oak, FL; sister, Mary Sweat Cooper of Tallahassee, six grandchildren; Cathy Adams of Jacksonville, Susan Brown of Kingsland, Georgia, Lynda Hobbs of Ponte Vedra Beach, Charles Sweat, Jr. of Los Gatos, Carlos, Terry Sweat of Tamarac, Florida, and Chris Sweat of Pensacola, FL. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. May God Bless. Funeral Services will be conducted 3:30 PM Tuesday, January 23rd at Westwood Baptist Church, Live Oak, with Dr. Jimmy Deas and Rev. Pomeroy Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Live Oak cemetery. Daniels Funeral Home of Live Oak in charge of all arrangements.

VAUGHN - Garvin F. Vaughn, age 72, passed away January 22, 2001 after an extended illness. He was born in Dawsonville, GA and resided in Jacksonville, FL. He was retired from Frito Lay after 30 years of service and a member of the Paxon Revival Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Gertrude Vaughn. He is survived by his mohter-in-law, Rosa B. Tomlinsonn of St. Augustine; sons, James E. Hall (wife, Teresa) of Jacksonville, Richard M. Hall, Sr. (wife, Bobbi) of St. Augustine, Edward L. Hall of Jacksonville; brothers, Buford Vaughn of Orange Park, Edward Vaughn of Leesburg; sisters, Sara Francis Jones, & Louise Cohen of Leesburg; grandson, Richard M. Hall, Jr. (wife, Debra); great-granddaughter, Julia Hall of St. Augustine and numerous cousins, nephews, & nieces. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, January 25th in the chapel of Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Blvd. with Pastor Steven Dobbs officiating. Interment services will be held 3PM Thursday at Santa Fe cemetery, Bradford County. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Wednesday, January 24th at the funeral home.

APPLETON - Harriett Johnson Westerman Appleton, 76, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away Friday, February 2, 2001. Born April 24, 1924 in Rockford, Il, daughter of Pearl Isabelle and Eric William Johnson of Rockford, IL. Harriett was predeceased by her daughter Bonnie Westerman Saporiti in 1982, her husband William Ross Westerman in 1986, her granddaughter Amy Catherine Saporiti in 1986 and her second husband Frank Appleton in 1993. Harriet leaves her loving and adoring family: daughter, Heidi W. White, grandchildren, Nicole M. Saporiti, Adam R. White and Lucas W. White, brother, Robert G. Johnson and sister, Dorothy Dennick. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 9, at 2:00 PM at First Christian Church, 11924 San Jose Blvd., in Jacksonville, FL. A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 17 at 2:00 PM in Greenwood cemetery, Rockford, IL. The family will receive friends at the residence of George and Nancy Buhl, 1267 Roxbury Close, following the graveside service. The overwhelming love and affection shown by family and friends exemplifies how many lives she touched. The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions in her memory be made to First Christian Church or Hospice.

BEVARD - Funeral service for Mr. Joseph L. Bevard, Sr. will be held Thursday, February 8, 2001 at 11:00 AM in the First Baptist Church of Oakland where he held membership. The Rev. C. B. Dailey, pastor, officiating. He was a member of the 1963 graduating class of Northwestern High School and served in the U. S. Army. He was employed many years as a merchant seaman. He leaves to mourn his passing a loving wife, Hope Patricia Bevard; children, Veronica, Joseph, Jr. and Eric. Also Paula, Reginald and Darin. Parents, Archie and Annie Bevard, Sr.; brothers and sisters, Archie, Nadine, Leonard, Arlene, Phyllis, Gail and David, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Bevard will rest in the mortuary for the visitation of friends on Wednesday TODAY from 5 until 8PM. Interment will be in Edgewood cemetery. BLAKELY - Lee Costa Blakely II (Baby Lee) 36, passed away quitely on February 1, 2001. He was a graduate of William Raines, Class of 81. He leaves to cherish his memory sons, Darion and Sean Blakely; daughters, Jacorey and Josephine Blakely; Parents, Lee Costa and Josephine Blakely; brothers, Michael (Shirley) Blakely, Ronald (Kibby) Blakely; sisters, LelindA Blakely, Sheidra (Derrick) Davis and a host of other relatives and many sorrowing friends. There will be no funeral service. Arrangements entrusted to: Westons Mortuary, 3027 N. Myrtle Ave., Hal E. Weston, L.F.D., 356-9955 .

BURNSED - Mr. Willard Burnsed, Sr., age 83 of Macclenny, died Tuesday, February 6, 2001. He is a native of Charlton, County, GA, he has resided in Macclenny, for the past 11 years moving from Jacksonville. He was of the Primitive Baptist Faith and was self employed in property management. He is the son of the late James ' Harley' and Lossie Rhoden Burnsed. Survivors include his wife Iris Prevatt Burnsed of Macclenny; son, James Willard Burnsed, Jr. (Diane) of Jacksonville; daughter, Myrtle Mae Stout (Jerry) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; stepsons, Jerry and Wendell Crews both of Glen St. Mary, Larry Crews of Green Cove Springs and Roger Crews of Jacksonville; stepdaughter, Glenda Faye Raulerson of Sanderson; brother, Nathan Burnsed of Baxter; sisters, Edna Sands, Rosie Thomas and Minnie Lee Johns all of Macclenny, Geneva Griffin of Jacksonville; 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held on Thursday Feb. 8, 2001 at 2:00 PM in Macclenny Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder David Crawford officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove cemetery, Baker County. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Wednesday (TODAY) in GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, U.S. 90 East Macclenny.

CONNER - Funeral services for Norval E. Conner, 81, of Hilliard will be held Thursday at 3:00 PM Graveside in Nathaleen cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Mae Conner, Hilliard; 1 brother, Dewitt Conner; 1 sister, Rema Altman both of Hilliard, several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Dewitt Conners residence after 4:00 PM Today (Wed). Arrangements by Callahan Funeral Home.

COX - Sachiko ' June' Cox, 70, of Hilliard, FL, passed away January 31 2001. She was a native of Taipei, Taiwan and was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband of 51 yrs., Sam Cox, Jr.; 1 daughter, Linda Bedwell (Dennis); 1 son, Ronnie Cox (Dianne); 4 grandchildren, Tina, Juli, Ron and Jeremy; and 2 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 9, at the Life Care Center of Hilliard, Florida with Rev. Leonard Owen, officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Life Care Center of Hilliard, 7911 W. 3rd Street, Hilliard, FL 32046, in her name. Arrangements by COREY-KERLIN FUNERAL HOME, 1426 Rowe Ave.

GOSSETT - Master Chief Charles Pete Gossett, 70, who served 21 years in the United States Navy, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2001 at the Earl B. Hadlow Center. He is survived by his wife Audrey, two sons, Selwyn and Michael (Dottie), three grandchildren, his brother Alex and family, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at St. Edwards Catholic Church, Naval Air Station Jacksonville, TODAY, Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in his memory, to Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, 32257.

HOLMES - Thomas LeRoy Holmes, 59, passed away February 5, 2001. He was a native of Jacksonville, FL and had resided in Crescent City, FL for the past 10 years. He served his Country in the National Guard and was retired from the City of Jacksonville. Survivors include his wife, Marlene; mother, Doris Gowdy; 5 children; 6 brothers; 1 sister; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, February 9, 2001 in the Chapel of TOWN & COUNTRY FUNERAL HOME, 7242 Normandy Blvd. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Wednesday and Thursday at the Funeral Home.

MACGREGOR - Helga S. MacGregor, 79, died at her residence on February 3 2001. She was born in Hafnarfirdi, Iceland, and has resided in Jacksonville for 48 years. Mrs. MacGregor is a retired homemaker, and of the Lutheran Faith. She is a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, (FOE) #4365, Orange Park, FL. Her husband Lester E. MacGregor preceded her in death in 1994. Survivors include one niece and her husband, Helen and Sverrir Th. Magnusson; one nephew and his wife, Brent and Paula Schultz, all of Jacksonville; three brothers in Iceland; two sisters, in Iceland, and one sister and her husband, Fanney and Harold ONeal of Jacksonville; five great nieces and nephews and four great-great- nephews. A Funeral service will be held at 2:00PM Friday, February 9, 2001 in the chapel of ARLINGTON PARK FUNERAL HOME, 6920 Lone Star Rd. with Pastor, John R. Gallow, officiating. Interment will follow in Arlington Park cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home, 724-6384.
