CROSBY - David L. Crosby, 40, Macaw Road, Yulee, husband of Deborah Lynn Davis Crosby, died Saturday, December 16, 2000. A native and lifetime resident of Nassau County, he was the son of Eugene & Jean Crosby of Yulee, and was the owner and operator of David & Deborah Trucking Company in Yulee, Survivors, besides his wife & parents, include: four daughters, Melissa Jean Crosby, Kassie Lee Crosby, & Christy Lynn Fountain, Yulee, and Melissa Marie (Billy) McIntosh, Fernandina Beach; a brother, Gary (Angie) Crosby, and sister, Joyce Elaine Powell, Yulee; four grandchildren, & four nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2000, at 11 AM in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hughes cemetery in Yulee. Ric Crosby, Andy Crosby, Eugene Powell, Nathan Powell, Henry Thornton & Billy McIntosh will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 PM tonight at the funeral home. DENICOLA - Jennie Denicola, 84, a 15 year resident of Jacksonville passed away Saturday December 16, 2000. A native of Lockport, NY she had been a resident of Rome, NY for many years before moving to Jacksonville. Mrs. Denicola was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church. Survivors include two daughters Theresa Shirk-Makowski (Ray) of Jacksonville and Livia DAntonio (Phil) of Rome NY, a son Frank Denicola (Sandy) of California, two sisters Mary Conforti of Toronto, Canada and Anna Senese of New Haven, CT. a brother Antonio Pettinelli of Rome, NY, Seven grandchildren including Charlene Shirk of First Coast News, and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday December 19, 2000 at St. Pauls Catholic Church with Fr. William A. Kelly officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may visit between the hours of 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home 1701 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville Beach. FORBES - Nathan M. Forbes, of Jacksonville Beach died December 17, 2000 at age 90. Born February 7, 1910 in Carthage, New York, he had resided in the Ponte Vedra Beach and Jacksonville Beach area since 1956. Nate started a career with Prudential Insurance Company as an agent in Watertown, New York district in 1933. In 1935 he was promoted to Staff Manager in Satanac Lake, New York and in 1942 was promoted to District Manager of the Ithaca, New York district. In 1956 he was promoted to Director of Agencies in Jacksonville, Florida, promoted to Executive Director in 1960, and appointed to Vice President of Sales in 1969. He retired from Prudential in 1970. Nate was active in civic life and belonged to Rotary and Elks Clubs. He was past President of the Ponte Vedra Association. He and his wife, Dot, initiated the annual Ponte Vedra Christmas tree launching on the lagoon behind their home at 187 San Juan Drive in 1958. The tree launching became a community tradition and was taken on by Ponte Vedra Club in 1974 when the Forbes were no longer able to manage the affair. After the death of Dorothy in 1987, Nate married Barbara Poole of Jacksonville Beach and they continued travels across the United States and Canada in their motor home. Nate is survived by daughter, Mrs. James Finn (Betty) of Loundonville, New York and by son, Sidney P. Forbes of Panama City, Florida; brother, Welles Forbes, Jr. of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; 8 grand children, 8 great grandchildren; and best friend, Barbara Poole Forbes. Memorial service will be held in Christ Episcopal Church at a later date. Donations in his memory to the Alzheimer Association or a charity of choice will be appreciated. GADDY - Nancy E. ' Nan' Gaddy, 89, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, in Memphis, Tennessee. a native of Cairo, Georgia, she was a resident of Lloyd, Florida. She was a retired clerk with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and was a member of Lloyd United Methodist Church, Lloyd, Florida. She is survived by: three daughters, Susan Laseman, Dartlett, TN, Louise Grimes, Jacksonville, FL, Elizabeth McCauley, Las Vegas, NV; one brother, James Gadsden, Lloyd FL; one sister, Ida Allen, Lloyd, FL; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grand children. Graveside services will be held Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at 1:00 PM, in the Springfield cemetery, Lloyd, Florida. visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, at Beggs Funeral Home, Monticello Chapel, Monticello, Florida. GEARY - Francis Xavier Geary, loving husband, father, and grandfather died on December 15, . Frank, served 6 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was an award-winning journalist employed by Add Inc. as a feature editor for the Jax Air News. He is survived by his wife Marie, 5 children and 9 grandchildren. He was 67. HUMPHREY - Mrs. Marie Zackery Hum- phrey, a resident of 1657 Academy Street, died December 16, 2000. JONES - Wallace H. Jones, 77, of Bradley Branch Road, Whittier, NC died Friday, December 15, 2000 at Harris Regional Hospital. A native of Jacksonville, FL and resident of Whittier, NC for the past 11 years, he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sylva, and was retired from the State of Florida as a Counselor for Children Services. He was the son of the late Abner Cleveland and Iris Grubb Jones and is preceded in death by one daughter, Marie Annette Jones and one sister Alice Jones. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Jones, of the home; one son, Wallace C. Jones of Jacksonville, FL; one step-daughter, Roxanne Sheffield of Tallahassee, FL; one brother, Robert G. Jones of Corpus Christi, TX; three sisters, Abbie Louise Gissendaner of Jacksonville, FL, Marjorie Fernandez of Miami, FL and Annette Thigpen of Bainbridge, GA; two step granddaughters also survive. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Sylva, NC.

LANE - Dorothy M. Lane, 79, died Wednesday, December13, 2000. She was a native of Seat Pleasant, Maryland, and had lived in Jacksonville one month. She is survived by her husband of58 years Robert H. Lane, 2 daughters, Patricia Grabel and Brenda Winn, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Blvd. with Rev. officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Alzheimers Association

LEWIS - Helen Warren Lewis, 92, of Jacksonville passed away Saturday December 16th at a local hospital. A native of Summerside, PEI, Canada she was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, George E. Lewis in 1999 in Jacksonville, where they lived for 42 years. Helen was a graduate of Acadia University in Canada and she graduated from Jacksonville University with her teaching degree while working full time for the Duval County School System where she taught 2nd grade for 20 years before her retirement in 1978. Before moving to Florida she was very active with Canadian Brownies and Girl Guides. She was an active member of San Jose Episcopal Church working with the youth programs. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Louise Lewis, Mary Lowther (Terry), 2 grandchidlren, Angila Maxwell (Gene), Chet Walker, and 2 great grandchildren Chelsea Maxwell and Brandon Maxwell. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday December 23, 2000 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 4171 Hendricks Ave. Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her memory to All Saints Episcopal Church.

MEYER - Hyacinth Isabel Meyer, 97, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2000, in Jacksonville, FL. Born in St. Louis, MO, on January 9, 1903, she was a devoted homemaker and active member of Maplewood United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arch, and daughter, Yvonne Meyer Johnson. A woman with a giving heart, gentle spirit and zest for life, she had lived happily in Jacksonville for the past 3 years with her granddaughter, Linda, and Lindas husband, Craig. She is survived by her son, Donald Meyer; granddaughters, Linda Johnson Hemphill and Michelle Meyer OSullivan; grandsons, Gregory Meyer and Douglas Meyer; and great-grandchildren, Gregory Meyer, Jr., Barrett and Alaina Meyer and Ryan OSullivan. She was loved by many and shared special friendships with caregivers, Krystal Monroe, Delphine Thomas, Jackie Hicks and Ida Walker. Hyacinth approached life with humor, dignity and strength. She was truly loved, will be fondly remembered and deeply missed. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 20, in St. Louis. Arrangements by Jay B. McCUMBER - Mr. C. Lacy McCumber, 79, passed away on December 16, after a lengthy illness. He was born on January 8, 1921 in Montgomery, Alabama. He moved to Jacksonville over 70 years ago. He graduated in 1939 from Lee High School where he played on Lee Highs 1939 state football championship team. He wen ton to serve at Brooklyn Bethel, the worldwide headquarters of Jehovahs Witnesses, in Brooklyn, NY. Upon his return to Jacksonville in 1949, he joined Independent Life Insurance Company where he stayed until opening his own agency in 1965. He retired in 1975 to join his sons in their golf business. He was named Golfweeks magazine Father of the Year in 1985. He was a man of strong conviction and faith, having served as an elder in various local congregations for the last 50 years. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ida; sons, Jim, Gary, Mark, and Tim, daughter-in-laws, Brenda and Paddy, grandchildren, Josh, Kort, Beth, Aaron, Brooke, Clare, Addison, Megan and Tyler McCumber; his mother, Florene C. McCumber and sister Mary Smith. There will be a memorial service, Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the San Jose Congregation, 7040 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida. The family requests in lieu of flowers if so desired, memorials may be made to the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, 25 Columbia Heights, Brooklyn, NY, for their worldwide missionary and educational work.

PALMER - William T. Palmer, Jr., 80, passed away December 17, 2000. He was a native of Kibbee, GA and had resided in Jacksonville for 67 years. Mr. Palmer served his Country during W.W. II in the 351st Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force stationed in England has a Radioman and Tailgunner flying over 35 missions. He was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Yvonne H. Palmer; three sons, W. Thomas Palmer, III (Frances), Richard H. Palmer (Candice), and Ben L. Newton (Cynthia); sister, Reba Palmer Dailey (Jack); and eight grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 20, 2000 in Evergreen cemetery (Gate #5), with The Rev. Roger Moore officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM 4:30 PM, Tuesday, (TODAY) at HARADGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 4315 Main St. 355-5641. Memorial contributions may be may to St. Marks United Methodist Church, 5400 Pearl St. Jax., FL.

RETHERFORD - Bob Retherford, II, his full given name, was born August 6, 1918 in Harwood, Texas, and died Sunday, December 17, 2000 at Baptist Hospital, Jacksonville. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Thelma; sons, Bob III (Nancy) and Bill; daughter, Emily Retherford Lisska (Lawrence); and grandchildren, Shawn E. Retherford, Tiffany Ansley Retherford, Joseph Retherford Lisska and William Retherford Lisska. Surviving sisters include Fay Bonner, Lockhart, TX ; Lee Richardson, Grapevine, TX; and Aggie Rhea Wright, Shreveport, Louisiana. A resident of Jacksonville for the past 55 years, he was a retired real estate broker and owner of Retherford Realty. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II receiving four Bronze Service Stars, an American Theater Campaign Medal, a Victory Medal, a Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and an American Defense Service Medal. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Services will be held Wednesday, December 20th, 11 a.m. at Hardage Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., The Reverend Richard Turk of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, officiating. Graveside rites, with military honors, follow at Oaklawn cemetery. Pallbearers are James W. Carden, Fred M. Abbott, James F. Gay, W. Clyde Swatzell and Donald C. Mac Lean, Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials to the Baptist Medical Center Oncology Fund or the Jacksonville Historical Society.

RICE - Robert (Bob) Earl Rice, 63, of Neptune Beach passed away on Saturday, Dec- ember 9, 2000 after a lengthy illness from cancer. He was a native of Rindge, New Hampshire but had lived in Jacksonville and Neptune Beach since 1964. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Lynn Rice; two sons, Timothy (Linda) Barrett and Bobby Rice; two daughters, Mary Ann (John) Kenneson and Nancy (Jason) Charleston; four grandchildren, Brandon Rogers, Rachael Lynn Kenneson, Michelle Barrett and Rebecca Lynn Barrett. He is a graduate of Aurora University. Mr. Rice taught science at Fletcher Middle School and was teacher of the year in 1994. He also taught at Paxon and Stanton High Schools. He will be missed by his students, fellow teachers and friends. He served in the U. S. Army from 1957 to 19596 and is a past member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Pauls By-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 416 Twelfth Avenue North, Jacksonville Beach on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 at 7PM. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in his name to The Pinecrest Fund, C/O Security State Bank, P. O. Box 157, Ironriver, WI 54847.
