She was a homemaker and wife of the late Allen Mitchell, who died July 4, 1985. She was Protestant. Surviving are four sons, Neil Cason of Homosassa, Stanley Cason of Holiday, William Cason of Homosassa and Doyne Cason of Davison, Mich.; four sisters, Emogene Wilkins of Batesville, Ark., Algene Coen of Denver, Colo., Faye Hartsough of South Bend, Ind., and Annie Smith of Bedford, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Nina Parrish, 100, of Homosassa died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. She was born in Watauga County, North Carolina, and came here 16 years ago from Tampa. She was a retired hospital nurse. She was an avid fisherman. Every week, she and her friends went fishing on the Apollo Deep Sea Fishing Boat out of Crystal River. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Homosassa. Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Rowland of Newland, N.C., and Delestine McKinny of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; daughter-in-law, Millie Winters of Homosassa Springs; brother, John W. Frances L. Verity, 78, of Sugarmill Woods, Homosassa, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at home under the loving care of her family. She was born in Pittstown, N.J., and came here two years ago from Rosemont, N.J. She retired in 1985 after teaching school for 32 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crystal River and the Clinton Baptist Church of Rosemont, N.J., and served as a Sunday school teacher and was an active member of various committees during her membership. She also was an organist. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Harold Verity of Sugarmill Woods; one son, Dennis Verity of Santa Rosa, Calif.; two daughters, Nancy Verity of Wilmington, Ohio, and Janet Tremaine of Milford, N.J.; four brothers, George Barrick of Oxford, Mich., Arthur Barrick of Pittstown, N.J., Charles Barrick of Lebanon, N.J., and David Barrick of Ringoes, N.J.; and one sister, Marjorie Frantz of Newark, Del. A native of Davenport, Iowa, he was a retired maintenance mechanic for the LaFarge Corporation of Buffalo. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Port Huron. She was Methodist. Andrew McClelland, 82, of Lake Wales
Andrew McClelland, 82, of Lake Wales died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at James A. Haley V.A. Hospital. He was born in Arcadia, Fla., on Nov. 1, 1918, and moved to Lake Wales in 1958 from Keenensville, Fla. He was a ranch foreman for Edwin Friedlander and a World War II U.S. Army veteran. A true Florida Cracker, he has been a lifelong ranch hand ,working cows in Arcadia and Keenensville, and used to herd cows down the Kissimmee River by barge before roads and trucks were used. He was an avid storyteller, who enjoyed talking about working with Seminole Indians and trouble on the trail. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley McClelland, in 1988. Surviving are his daughter, Glenda West of Inverness; two sons, John Avery of Toledo, Ohio, and James Avery of Lake Wales; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Gladys M. Renfroe, 90, of Dunnellon died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at home, under the loving care of Hospice and her family. She was born in Opp, Ala., and came here eight years ago from Apopka. She was a dietary aide, an avid fisherman, gardener and seamstress. She was Baptist. She was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters, her husband, two sons and one daughter. Surviving are two daughters, G. Jennette and husband Renzo Thomas of Dunnellon and Joann Creamer of Dunnellon; daughter-in-law, Thelma Renfroe of Tarpon Springs; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Wanda J. Thompson, 72, of Inverness died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at her home. She was born in Middlesboro, Ky., on Sept. 8, 1928, the daughter of Edgar and Lillian Sharpe. She was married June 4, 1946, in Pineville, Ky., to Glenn ‘‘Bill’’ Thompson. They came to Inverness in October 1987 from Monroe, Mich. He preceded her in death Aug. 12, 1995. She was a member of the Hernando Church of the Nazarene; and the sister of the late Janice Sharpe Worrell, who died Dec. 2, 1999. She was born in Petersburg, Va., and came here three years ago from Colonial Heights, Va. She was employed as the student volunteer coordinator at Citrus Memorial Hospital from 1997 until her death. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and Sugarmill Woods Golf and Country Club. Born in Paris, France, on July 2, 1943, to the late Armand and Isabelle Olivier, he came here 12 years ago from Geneva, Switzerland. He was a flight instructor with the Crystal Aerogroup in Crystal River. He was owner-operator of Heath Mini-Storage.He was a real estate broker. He served in the French Air Force. He was a member and past president of the Inverness Rotary Club. He was an avid pilot. He was Catholic. Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Danielle (Gandon) Olivier; daughter, Sophie Olivier and her fiance, Dominique Rabuel, both of Paris, France; brother, Michel Olivier of Toures, France; and granddaughter, Karen Olivier of Paris, France. Hazel Lillian Pond-Gallagher, 75, of Ocala, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000. She formerly made her home in Citrus County. Born in Guthrie Center, Iowa, she came here 20 years ago from Miami and was a retired legal secretary for a law firm. She was a veteran and served as a nurse's aide during World War II. She was Methodist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, in April 1992. Surviving are her daughter, Roseann Merriam of Dunedin; granddaughter, Desiree of Dunedin; sister, Della Pitz and Della's husband John and their children; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Wilbert R. Schmidt, 77, of Hernando died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000. He was born in Manistee County, Mich., and came to Hernando 20 years ago from Kaleva, Mich. He was retired from the U.S. Government as a carpenter after 40 years of service. He was an Air Force and Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 2112, Inverness; the American Legion Post No. 155, Crystal River; Manatee Club; and the Maryland Club. He was Lutheran. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Beverly Hills, where she was a member of the Catholic Women's Club. She was a member of Harry F. Nesbitt VFW Auxiliary Post No. 10087, Beverly Hills. She was the wife of the late Stephen C. Sovinsky, who died Sept. 18, 1989; and mother of the late Gerald Sovinsky, who died in 1958.
