Born in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, he had moved to the area six years ago from Spring Hill. He was a construction carpenter. He was Baptist. Surviving are his wife, Mary; daughter, Kathryn Loftus of Homosassa; brother, Homer of Bonita Springs; sister, Donnabelle Bowser of Kittanning, Pa.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Geraldine Ensign, 83, of Inverness
Geraldine Virginia Ensign, 83, of Inverness died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, in Mariner Health Care Center following a lengthy illness. A native of Litchfield, Ohio, she was born Oct. 23, 1917, to Earl and Winnie Hines. She came here 25 years ago from Chatham, Ohio. She was the owner and operator of Ensign’s Mobile Home Park; a life member of the Chatham VFW Auxiliary and the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department. She attended the First Christian Church. Surviving are three sons, Carmen ‘‘Spud’’ Brinker of Hernando, Warren F. Brinker of Spencer, Ohio, and Clayton E. Brinker of Branford; two daughters, Charlene Wuthrich of Sullivan, Ohio, and Beverly Bricker of Inverness; one sister, Janice Querin of Wellington, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Margaret H. Jannone, 84, of Inverness died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000. She was born in Oceanside, Long Island, N.Y., and came to Inverness in 1974 from Port Washington, N.Y. She was a homemaker and wife of the late Edward Jannone who died in 1981. She was Catholic. Surviving are her son, Ernest Jackson of Jensen Beach; two daughters, Janet Palasck of Long Island, N.Y., and Marjorie Noulis of Duluth, Minn.; a brother, Harry Verity of Long Island, N.Y.; two sisters, Dorothy Verity of L.I., N.Y., and Muriel Yustat of Marietta, Ga. Catherine E. (Ethel) Renes, 90, of Crystal River died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River. Born in Pompton Falls, N.J., she came here 33 years ago from St. Petersburg Beach. She was a homemaker. She was a longtime resident of Crystal River, and she enjoyed playing the organ. She was Christian. Surviving are her son, Roger H. Renes and his wife Claudia of Crystal River; daughter, Marie E. Barth and her husband Carl of Hernando; eight grandchildren, Henry Allen Renes, Ricky Renes, Gary Renes, Lavonda Rickel, Yvonda Roach, Debra Gipson, Roger Vandergriff and Carl Barth Jr.; 12 great-grandchildren and two nieces. Arthur Wells Jr., 77, of Hernando
Arthur L. Wells Jr., 77, of Hernando died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at his residence. Born in Akron, Ohio, he moved to the area seven years ago from there. He was a retired factory worker. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the VFW. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Italian Club, both of Citrus County. He was Baptist. Surviving are two daughters, Jenni Ridenour of Nobleton and Mandy Locke of Brooksville; two sisters, Winnie Paulus of Barberton, Ohio, and Helen Radabaugh of Norton, Ohio; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Adele L. Whitehead, 90, of Dunnellon died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, in Ocala. Born in Bronx, N.Y., she came here 27 years ago from Valley Stream, N.Y. She was a retired secretary for a law firm. She was Catholic. She was predeceased by her husband, James E. Whitehead, and her sister, Lillian McFarland. Cathern Alt, 83, of Millington, Mich.
Cathern M. Alt, 83, of Millington, Mich., formerly of Inverness, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at her son's residence. She was born Jan. 17, 1916, in Vassar, Mich. She was the daughter of LeRoy and Vila (Dennis) Henderson. In 1930, she married Ralph Alt. He preceded her in death in September 1978. She was a member of the Millington Church of God. He came here 30 years ago from Fulton, Miss. He retired from the Chrysler Corporation. He owned and operated the Nichols Motel from 1968 to 1973. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Dunnellon. Surviving are his loving wife of 39 years, Edna; three sons, Edwin S. of Crossville, Tenn., Sherman of Kokomo, Ind., and Rex of Hagerstown, Ind.; one daughter, Sue Beck of Monticello, Ky.; a stepson, Ted York of Shelbyville, Tenn.; several grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Born in Waddington, N.Y., on Sept. 21, 1905, to William and Elizabeth (McNutty) Tiernan, she came here 33 years ago from Utica, N.Y. She was a retired registered nurse. She was a former member of the Inverness Golf and Country Club. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish of Inverness. Antonio M. DaSilva, 85, of Citrus Springs died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Seven Rivers Community Hospital in Crystal River. Born in Nogueira, Portugal, he came here in 1980 from Wallingford, Conn., and was a retired silversmith in the silverware industry. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. He was a member of the Portuguese Club in Connecticut. He loved the outdoors, especially gardening. He was also an avid reader. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Pires, and a sister, Anna Gomes. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Rosalie; two sons, Anthony ''Butch'' DaSilva of Wallingford, Conn., and Mark A. DaSilva of Naples; three daughters, Maryrose Bernier of Meriden, Conn., Sandee J. Betty Jean Frances Hogg, 70, a winter resident of Homosassa, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000. She was born in Olgby, Ill., and was a winter resident from Livonia, Mich. She was Protestant. Surviving are her husband, James L. Hogg of Livonia, Mich.; three sons, Gregory Wrobel of Dearborn Heights, Mich., Donald Wrobel and Gary Wrobel, both of Detroit, Mich.; daughter, Denise Buchanan of North Carolina; two brothers; one half-brother; one half-sister; three grandchildren and one great-grandson. Sandra Lindsey, 59, of Lecanto
Sandra Joy Lindsey, 59, of Lecanto died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000. She came here 29 years ago from her native Jacksonville. She was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School Class of 1958 in Jacksonville. She was a cosmetologist for Kathi's Hair Affair of Homosassa Springs. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Crystal River. She was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar Roberson. Walter Matthews, 82, of Sugarmill Woods
Walter Ernest Matthews, 82, of Sugarmill Woods, Homosassa, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at the Cypress Cove Care Center in Crystal River. Born Dec. 17, 1917, in Penns Grove, N.J., to Walter and Lillian (Morgan) Matthews, he came to this area 20 years ago from Cape Cod, Mass. He spent most of his childhood years in Ocean City. N.J. He was an accomplished composer and director of music. As a high school student, he received a scholarship that was given by Professor McCurry at the University of Pennsylvania and the Rotary Boy Award. He participated in pole vaulting in high school and in college. After receiving his MA degree from Trenton State and Columbia University, his teaching extended from the kindergarten to the 12th grade, becoming the district supervisor of music on Long Island and a New York state adjudicator for chorus and piano. His groups performed on TV, at the World's Fair in New York and many radio programs. After moving to Florida for 10 years, he was director of the original Sugarmill Chorale. He was a member of the Crystal River Rotary Club for 20 years and a six-year member of the Governing Board of the Seven Rivers Community Hospital. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Crystal River. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Matthews of Sugarmill Woods, Homosassa; one son, Bruce Morgan Matthews of New York City; two grandchildren, Greg W. William Patrick Murray, 40, of Inglis died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at his home. Born Aug. 4, 1959, to William J. and Audrey Murray in Providence, R.I., he came here 10 years ago from there. He was a U.S. Army disabled veteran. He was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Inglis. He came to Florida 11 years ago from there, where he was employed as a maintenance and air-conditioning engineer for the U.S. Post Office. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Edwin Joseph Seufert, 77, of Inverness died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in Citrus Memorial Hospital. A native of Fort Lee, N.J., he was born to John and Mary (Casper) Seufert on Feb. 20, 1922. He came to Florida 21 years ago from Ridgefield, N.J. He owned and operated Sebo Interior Decorators for 20 years in Palisades Park, N.J. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 6391, Inverness Moose and Elks lodges, and the American Legion. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Margaret; one son, Robert James Seufert of Sayreville, N.J.; two daughters, Lucille Herten of Ridgefield, N.J., and Donna Williams of Ridgefield Park, N.J.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was born April 18, 1920, to Victoria and Frank Siolka in Pulaski, Wis. He moved here from Shawano, Wis., four years ago. He retired from the U.S. Army. He was Catholic. Vincent A. Bartolucci, 82, of Hernando died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001. He was born in Cambridge, Mass., and moved to Hernando in 1988 from Burlington, Mass. He was the retired owner of Vinny’s TV and Radio Repair Service in Summerville, Mass. He was a HAM Radio enthusiast using the call letters W1CAK. He was a member of St. Scholastica Catholic Church, Lecanto; the Holy Name Society, Honolulu, Hawaii; an usher for 24 years at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Burlington, Mass.; Knights of Columbus, Burlington, Mass.; and the Navy Cantonment. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Cristina Buonopane Bartolucci of Hernando; two sons, Vincent N. Bartolucci of Nashua, N.H., and Alfred A. Bartolucci of Birmingham, Ala.; two daughters, Christine A. LaQuaglia, R.S.M., of California and Nancy A. Francis Bartsch, 85, of Homosassa Springs
Francis ‘‘Frank’’ Paul Bartsch, 85, of Homosassa Springs died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at his home. He was born in Chicago, Ill., on Aug. 20, 1915, to Mary A. and Paul V. Bartsch. He moved here from Lakelore, N.C., 22 years ago. He was the former proprietor of several drive-in theaters in St. Petersburg and a mortgage broker from 1963 until retirement in 1979. He was a retired U.S. Army Captain, serving from 1941-1946, followed by the Army Reserves. During his military career he was in three campaigns, North Africa, Sicily and France. He received Purple Heart and Bronze Star awards. He was an alumni and economics graduate of Knox College and he was a member of the Sugarmill Woods Golf and Country Club. He was Catholic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Bartsch, in August 2000. He is survived by one son, Frank P. and Laura Bartsch of Branford; one daughter, Susan Bartsch Little of Alachua; four grandchildren, Stacy Martorella of Gainesville, Kacy Little of Seminole, Frank P. Bartsch III and Ben Bartsch both of Branford; and five great-grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew and Julianna Martorella all of Gainesville and Kelton and Kyleigh Little both of Seminole. Mary Lou Wells Booth, 66, of Crystal River died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Citrus County. She was born in Uniontown, Pa., on June 21, 1934, to Dorothy and Theodore Marshall Collins. She moved here from Clearwater 30 years ago. She was Presbyterian. Surviving are her husband, Richard Booth; two sons, William McGregor Wells and his wife, Pam, of Homosassa Springs and Robert McGregor Wells and his wife, Faye, of Crystal River; one daughter, Nancy Wells Kolinski and her husband Charles of Gunnison, Colo.; two sisters, Lois Elaine Scott of Inverness and Sandra Lee McAdams of Clearwater; and five grandchildren, Amy and Corey Wells of Homosassa Springs and Brandie, Brittany and Chandler Wells of Crystal River. Steven Elbrecht, 55, of Fishers, Ind.
Steven W. Elbrecht, 55, of Fishers, Ind., died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001. He was born in Indianapolis, Ind., on Dec. 9, 1945, to Vernon and Edmonia Elbrecht. He was the owner of Enterprise Construction for 31 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He served as an officer for the Fishers American Legion Post No. 470, and was a member of the Hamilton County 40/8 Voiture No. 1502. Surviving are his wife, Karyl Elbrecht of Fishers, Ind.; sons, Christopher, James and Ryan Elbrecht; father, Vernon Elbrecht; sister, Linda Gates; and brother, Mark Elbrecht. He was preceded in death by a son, Zachery; mother, Edmonia Elbrecht; and two grandsons, Colton Zachery and Christopher Steven Elbrecht.
