Edward R. Neff, 57, of Lecanto died Monday, March 6, 2000, at his home. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio, the first son of Edward Leroy and Martha (Cummings) Neff. Mr. Neff was a resident of Citrus County for more than 10 years. He owned and operated Palm Terrace Village, a Senior Living Community. He graduated from Canfield High School in 1961 and attended Bowling Green State University. He served in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Belvoir, Va. He moved to Miami and worked for 17 years for First Federal Savings and Loan, where he became president of Amerifirst Mortgage Corp. He was a founder and president of QuicDocs, the first mortgage document preparation company in the state of Florida. He was a member of the Young/Lakemen Life Group; the Dr. Jay Newcomer Discipleship Group of the church; Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church, Crystal River. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam war. He was brother of the late Mr. Gary Reed Neff. Surviving are his wife of 16 years, Cheryl Sakai Neff of Lecanto; son, Michael Neff of Tallahassee; daughter, Sharon Neff of Littleton, Colo.; parents, Edward and Martha Neff of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, William Bruce Neff of Canfield, Ohio; and sister, Nancy Jo Neff of Phoenix, Ariz. Billie Marshall Surface Sr., 67, of Doe Hill Place in Lenoir, N.C., and Murrells Inlet, S.C., died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital in Georgetown, S.C. Born July 25, 1932, in Wear, Va., to Roy C. Surface and Arleen Hicks Surface, he was a retired United States Air Force master sergeant, who specialized in strategic weaponry. He was a Vietnam War veteran. He was a member of Grand Strand Chamber of Commerce Fishing Rodeo committee and Surfside Pier Float Fishing Association. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jerry Surface. Survivors include his wife, Janice Barlow of Lenoir, N.C., and Murrells Inlet, S.C.; two sons, Billie M. Mr. Cliff served in the U.S. Secret Service for 21 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of more than 20 years, serving at The White House. He was a member of the VFW Edward W. Penno Post 4864 of Citrus Springs and former member of the American Legion Perrine Post of Miami. He was Protestant. Surviving are his wife, Virginia E. Andrew Alan ''Andy'' Hennessy, 22, of Inverness died Monday, March 13, 2000, as a result of an automobile accident. A native of Pinellas County, he was born on April 9, 1977, in Clearwater to Steven J. and Ann (Sandkuhl) Hennessy. He moved to this area with his family 20 years ago. He was a 1997 graduate of Lecanto High School. He was baptized in the Catholic faith. He loved the sport of racing and was the crew chief of TLS Motor Sports Racing Team. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Christopher S. and John F. Hennessy, both of Inverness; a nephew, Chris Jr. of Inverness; uncle, Richard Sandkuhl; two aunts, Alice Wells and June Johnson; and his ''racing family,'' the TLS Motor Sports Team. Chas. E. Marion Mercer, 85, of Crystal River
Marion R. Mercer, 85, of Crystal River died Monday, March 13, 2000, at the Crystal River Health and Rehab Center. Born Jan. 12, 1916, to Minnie (Moser) and Marion R. Mercer Sr. in Johnson City, Tenn., he came to this area 44 years ago from there. Mr. Mercer was a retired musician beginning his career in the early 1940s and '50s having a local band called the Marion Mercer Band in Johnson City, Tenn., then coming to Florida. He opened the first Radio Shack and Mercer Music in Leesburg in 1967, Crystal River store in 1974 and finally Eustis in 1976. Many knew him through his music at the Port Paradise, Plantation, Yardarm, Holiday Inn, Citrus Hills, and Seven Rivers Golf and Country Club. Mr. Mercer was a U.S. Army Special Services veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Gulf to Lake Baptist Church in Crystal River. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Mallie Mercer of Crystal River; one son, Robert Mercer and his wife Linda of Leesburg; three daughters, Marian Leaphart of Fruitland Park, Judy MacCallum and her husband Roger of Inverness, and Terri Mullins and her husband Marvin of Crystal River; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. James H. ''Jim'' Noone, 78, of Inverness died Monday, March 13, 2000, in Citrus Memorial Hospital. A native of Coketon, W.Va., he was born on May 13, 1921, to William and Ada (Rinehart) Noone. He moved to Florida 21 years ago after retiring in 1971 from the National Institute of Health as personnel management specialist and head of the Personnel Management Branch. He also served as the National Institute of Health representative to the Federal Council on Science and Technology and executive secretary to the Health, Education, and Welfare Career Service Board For Science. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving in World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 4337, Inverness. He was Lutheran.
