Mildred Macakanja Zeman, 81, of Floral City died at Citrus Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, April 26, 2000. A native of Yugoslavia, she was born Oct. 13, 1918, to Luka and Dragina Bakich. She came to Florida 17 years ago from Gowanda, N.Y., where she was employed with the Gowanda State Hospital for 23 years. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Greek Orthodox Church of Lecanto. Surviving are her daughter, Dorothy Crandall of Gowanda, N.Y.; three sons, Louis Macakanja Jr. of Granger, Ind., Rudolph Zeman Jr. and Robert S. Zeman, both of Sarasota; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Her second husband, Rudolph Zeman, died March 23, 1989. He retired from Ameritech after 33 years service as a telephone technician. Before he moved to Florida, he was employed by the University of Michigan. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Ann Arbor, Mich. He was both a U.S. Army and Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty Barney Knieper; three sons, Michael J. Knieper of Howell, Mich., David J. Knieper of Brighton, Mich., and Richard J. She was born in Trenton, N.J., daughter of Constant and Mary (Velivis) Vetovick, and came here in 1973 from Levittown, Pa. She was a supervisor with the classified section of ''Trentonian,'' a newspaper in Trenton, N.J., retiring in 1968 with 25 years of service. She was an avid gardener and had a lifelong interest in crocheting and sent lap robes throughout the world through means of missionaries. She was Catholic and attended Romeo Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, in 1991. Surviving are brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Nancy Vetovick of Barneget, N.J.; many nieces and nephews and one great-niece and one great-nephew.
