"J.R." Joseph Earl Locke Jr.
"J.R." Joseph Earl Locke Jr., age 15, of Okeechobee, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at his residence.
He was born on Feb. 27, 1987, in Pahokee. J.R. had been a lifetime resident of Okeechobee. He was a student at the Freshman Campus, was an avid humorist and enjoyed drawing, football and cars. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his parents, Joe and Stephanie Locke of Okeechobee; three sisters, Lisa (Ruben) Guia of West Palm Beach, Kimberly Locke of Kingsport, Tenn., and Christina Locke of Gainesville; paternal grandmother, Sallie Whitaker of Lake Worth; maternal grandmother, Peggy Hickey of Okeechobee; several aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews; additionally he is survived by special friends, Andrew Walker, David Hawk and Cade Waldron.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Buxton Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 9, at 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church, 401 S.W. Fourth St., Okeechobee, with Mike Ratliff, Pastor of Okeechobee Christian Church and Sam Vuleta, Youth Pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Dana Dell Siano
Dana Dell Siano, age 45, of Plantation, died Feb. 26, 2002, in Florida Medical Center, where she worked as an R.N. for 14 years. Dana was raised in Okeechobee.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ardell Revell Breland.
Survivors include: her loving husband, Robert; son, Eric Robert; daughter, Jacqueline Robin; mother, Anna Jane Evans Breland O'Steen Barney of Okeechobee; brothers, Dennis (Rosanne) Breland of Boca Raton and Dale Breland of Fort Meyers.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 1, at Plantation United Methodist Church. Memorial gifts may be made to First United Methodist Church of Okeechobee, designated for the Methodist Children's Home. Dana was an organ donor, please become one.
All arrangements were under the direction and care of the T. M. Ralph Sawgrass/Weston Funeral Home of Plantation.

Paul Edward Thurston
Paul Edward Thurston, age 72, of Okeechobee, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at his residence.
He was born on March 31, 1929, in Shelbyville, Ind. Mr. Thurston has been a resident of Okeechobee since 1985. He was an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Edward Thurston and Richard Allen Thurston.
Survivors include: his wife of 52 years, Dora Thurston of Okeechobee; his son, Paul Michael (Rose) Thurston of Okeechobee; two daughters, Linda (Rick) Francis of Bradenton and Debbie (Stan) Orndorff of Spring Hill; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Viola Beckett and Ethel Elkins, both of Rising Sun, Ind.
There will be no visitation or services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Okeechobee, P.O. Box 1548, Okeechobee, Fl. 34973.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Maverine I. 'Penny' Lindaman
Maverine I. 'Penny' Lindaman, age 77, of Okeechobee, died on Monday, March 4, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital.
She was born on June 17, 1924, in Medino, Tenn., the daughter of Gilford and Mattie (Gateley) Spencer.
She was a homemaker and affiliated with the Fountain of Life Church, a member of WMU, the church choir and being with God's people in fellowship.
Survivors include: her husband, Owen Lindaman; daughter, Linda Diane Arroz of California; sister, Wilma Turner of Germantown, Tenn.; and, one grandson.
Visitation is on Tuesday, March, 5, from 4 until 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 6, at 2 p.m. at the Bass Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Bishop officiating.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorials contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Fountain of Life Building Fund.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.

Amos F. Hazellief
Amos F. Hazellief, age 103, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, in Fort Pierce.
He was born March of 1898 in Fort Basinger.
Mr. Hazellief had been a resident of Okeechobee before moving to Fort Pierce where he had lived for five years. He was a truck driver by trade, a member of the Okeechobee Church of God and affiliated with the Palm Vista Church of God.
Mr. Hazellief loved fishing and gardening.
Survivors include: six daughters, Elizabeth Davis of Okeechobee; Inez Millard of Daytona; Dolores Snow of Melbourne; Myrna Hinton of Fort Pierce; Gloria Harkins of Williston; Nadine Vick of Greenville, S.C.; one son, Laverne Hazellief of Lawrenceville, Ga.; three brothers, Owen Hazellief of Lilburn, Ga.; and Wilson Hazellief and Quillie Hazellief, both of Okeechobee; sixteen grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and, five great-great-great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, Feb. 26, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Haisley-Hobbs Funeral Home, Inc. in Fort Pierce.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m. with Reverend R.D. Harris and Reverend George Absher officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Haisley-Hobbs Funeral Home, Inc.

Benjamin F. Loveday
Benjamin F. Loveday, age 88, of Knoxville, Tenn. died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at his residence.
He was born on April 18, 1913, in Knoxville, Tenn. Mr. Loveday had been a winter resident of Okeechobee since 1989. He enjoyed most sports along with golfing and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Survivors include: his loving wife of 49 years, Jessie Loveday of Knoxville, Tenn.; one son, Charles W. Loveday, Sr. of West Palm Beach and two grandchildren, Charles Loveday Jr. of West Palm Beach and Gwen Gould of Conroe, Texas; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Barker and Elizabeth (Howell) Worsham of Lake Park; and several nieces and nephews also survive him.
There will be no visitation or services.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

John Close Scott
John Close Scott, age 63, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital.
He was born on August 5, 1938, in Alliance, Ohio. Mr. Scott, formerly of Minerva, Ohio, had been a resident of Okeechobee for 15 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was retired from Pratt Whitney after 22 years. He enjoyed golfing and fishing.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Mary Close Scott and Edwin T. Scott and one daughter, Lisa Marie Scott.
Survivors include: his wife of 10 years, Wanda Scott of Okeechobee; seven grandchildren; one stepdaughter, Jennifer Lytle of Humble, Texas; two brothers, Edwin D. (Mary) Scott of Louisville, Ohio and Richard (Mary) Scott of Minerva, Ohio; and two sisters, Lenore (William) Morris and Marilou S. Scott of Minerva. Ohio.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m., at the Buxton Funeral Home
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Jerry Lee Goggans Sr.
Jerry Lee Goggans Sr., age 55, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at Hospice of Martin County.
He was born on July 23, 1946, in Miami, son of Arnold P. and Lorene (Riley) Goggans. Mr. Goggans was a farm mechanic by trade.
Survivors include: his sons, Jerry Lee Goggans Jr. and Wayne Edward Goggans, both of Okeechobee and Keith Allen Goggans of West Palm Beach; four grandchildren, Erica P. Goggans, Colton T. Goggans, Shelby L. Goggans and Calib A. Goggans; two brothers, Edward A. (Penny) Goggans of Lakeland and Calvin H. Goggans of Orlando; and sister, Barbara Gray of Prattville, Ala., also survives him.
Visitation will be on Monday, Feb. 18, from 5 until 7 p.m., at the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 2:30 p.m., at the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Bishop officiating. Interment to be in Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements were entrusted to the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.

Richard D. 'Kwin' Konwinski
Richard D. 'Kwin' Konwinski, 66, of Okeechobee and Alpena, Mich., died Feb. 11, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital in Okeechobee.
He was born Oct. 23, 1935, in Alpena, Mich., and was the son of George and Rose (Buzella) Konwinski.
He was an automotive mechanic, and was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Alpena, Mich., and the Alpena, Mich., Eagles Lodge.
He is survived by: his wife, Ruth (Lamb), whom he married in 1983; son, Richard J. Konwinski of Largo, Fla.,; step-sons, Gary Lamb and his wife Carol of Alpena, Mich., and Ken Lamb of Elmira, Mich.; step-daughters Peggy Thiem and her husband Gary of Westland, Mich., and Barbara Cercone and husband Michael of Alpena, Mich.; sister, Irene Czolgosz of Alpena, Mich.; nephew, Dennis Czolgosz; and, seven grandchildren.
Mr. Konwinski was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Diane Frantz, in 1982, his parents and one sister.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Alpena, Mich.
He will be buried at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Alpena, Mich.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Northeast Michigan or to the donor's choice.
All local arrangements entrusted to Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.

Viola Williams
Viola Williams, 76, of Okeechobee died Feb. 13, 2002, at the Okeechobee Health Care Center.
She was born Oct. 23, 1925, in Fort Davis, Ala.
She was a homemaker, and was affiliated with the Baptist church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie H. Williams, four brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by: sons Casey Williams (Rose) of Miami, Homer Williams of Palm Beach, and Henry Williams (Rosemary) of Rocky Mountain, N.C.; daughters Dorothy Butler (Robert) of Lakeland, Elease Kyle of Knoxville, Tenn., Corinne Bradley (George) of Okeechobee, Ida Harp of Charleston, S.C., Irene Holt (Lee) of Atlanta, and Annie McAuliffe (Terrence) of Port St. Lucie; and, a host of grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, from 4 until 6:30 p.m. at Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.

Alice P. Schauwecker
Alice P. Schauwecker, 84, formerly of Newark, Ohio, died Feb. 13, 2001, in Okeechobee, Fla.
She was employed for many years as a medical secretary for Donald Sperry, M.D.
She was preceded in death by parents Blanche and Alfred Fatzinger; husband Herman Schauwecker; brother Earl Fatzinger; and sister, Mary Price .
She is survived by beloved companion Walter F. Smith; niece, Patricia S. Wildman, Nashville, Tenn.; nephew Robert L. Fatzinger, Buffalo, N.Y.; great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002.
Local arrangements were under the care and direction of Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.

Ella Mae "Walker" Brown
Ella Mae "Walker" Brown, age 77, of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at her residence.
Born Sept. 24, 1924, in Offerman, Ga., to James Washington Rogers and Sarah Elizabeth Chancy Brown. Mrs. Brown was a hairdresser by trade. She came to Okeechobee from West Palm Beach 28 years ago. She was a member of the Woman's Auxiliary of Okeechobee, the V.F.W. and the American Federation of Musicians.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Walker.
Survivors include: her husband, Greg Brown of Okeechobee; daughter, Marvalene (Bill) Boyd of Macon, Ga.; two grandsons, Joe and Josh Boyd, both of Macon, Ga.; granddaughter, Wanda Greenauer of Belize City, Belize; three sisters, Belle Betton of Leesburg, Ga., Waunita Rigdon of Tallahassee and Julenia Sapp of Douglas, Ga.; brother, J. L. Rogers of Offerman, Ga. and special friends Charles and Roxanne Luster also survive her.
Visitation is Saturday, Feb. 2, from 10 until 11 a.m., at the Bass Funeral Home.
Funeral services are Feb. 2, at 11 a.m., graveside, at Evergreen Cemetery, with Dr. John Keith officiating.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Bass Funeral Home.

Paul R. Lowe
Paul R. Lowe, age 82, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital.
Born August 28, 1919, Mr. Lowe had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1990. He was a member of the Jevohah's Witness.
Survivors include: son, Herbert Lanham of Inverness; two daughters, Selma List of Okeechobee and Antoinette "Toni" Phillips of Glenville, N.C.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren also survive him.
There will be no visitation or services. A private interment will be held in Dade Memorial Park, Miami.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Raymond "Mark" Ezell
Raymond "Mark" Ezell, age 43, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Tampa General Hospital.
Born March 12, 1958, in Okeechobee, he had been a lifetime resident of Okeechobee. Mark graduated from Southern Missionary Baptist College in Collegedale, Tenn., and was of the Seventh Day Adventist Faith.
Having worked for Blockbuster Video, he was a movie buff and an airplane enthusiast.
Survivors include: his mother, Patsy Campbell of Okeechobee; father, Norman Ray Ezell of Deland; brother, Chris Ezell of Deland; three sisters, Debbie Pyper and Tonya Ford of Okeechobee and Gwen Driggers of Frostproof; nephew, Erik Clay of Okeechobee; five nieces, Amber and Bonnie Ezell of Deland, Shannon Chandley of Frostproof, Kayla and Samantha Ford of Okeechobee; three great nieces, Emily and Ashley Clay of Okeechobee and Paige Chandley of Frostproof. Also surviving him are several aunts and uncles who helped care for him.
There will be no visitation or services.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.
