Faye Miriam Eng
Faye Miriam Eng, age 71, of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at her residence. Born Nov. 14, 1929, in Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Eng had been a resident of Okeechobee for 25 years and was a member of the Oakview Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wah Pon Eng.
Survivors include: her son, David Eng (Sherri) of Okeechobee; two daughters, Sue Ellen Eng and Evelyn Tarvia (Daryl) of Okeechobee; grandsons, Joshua Tarvin, Robbie Eng, Marshall Eng, Daniel Eng and Cody Tarvin of Okeechobee; one granddaughter, Jenny Eng of Okeechobee; father, John Champion of Melbourne; and one brother, Alan Bicking of Pennsylvania.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. at Oakview Baptist Church, 677 S.W. 32nd St., with Rev. Dr. John Keith, Pastor, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oakview Baptist Church Building Fund.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home.

Laura Arnold Harris
Laura Arnold Harris, age 84, of Okeechobee, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital. She was born August 30, 1919, in East Tallassee, Ala., the daughter of Nona and Clarence Arnold. Her family moved to Florida when she was 3 weeks old and she attended school in Palm Beach County. Mrs. Harris married John Ervin Harris on June 13, 1933. She has been a resident of Okeechobee since 1976 and a member of Abundant Blessings Assembly of God Church and Widow to Widowers.
Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Ervin Harris.
Survivors include: her four children, Frances Walpole-Freed and her husband Chuck, of Okeechobee, Ellen Blaesing of Polk City, John Harris, Jr., of West Palm Beach, Darleen Currier of Dover-Foxworth, Maine; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; and brother, C.C. "Pete" Arnold and his wife Jackie, of Stuart. Additionally, she is survived by many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 11 starting at 10 a.m. until funeral services at 11:30. Rev. Charles Moscato, of Abundant Blessings Assembly of God, will officiate and interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Gabriel N. Herbison
Gabriel N. Herbison, infant son of Adrien Herbison and Amanda Lamb, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include: his parents; one sister, Arianna Stults of Okeechobee; two brothers, Tyler Herbison and Malachi Alex Stults both of Okeechobee; paternal grandparents, Jan C. Larson and wife Deanne M. Lemire of Parish and Betty Choate of St. Cloud and Mark Lamb of Okeechobee.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 3:30 p.m. at the Aycock Funeral Home, Port St. Lucie.

Corinne W. Ragsdale
Corinne W. Ragsdale, age 94, of Okeechobee died Wednesday Nov. 5, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital. She was born Nov. 29, 1908, in Madrid, Ala. to her parents Edward O. Watford, Sr. and Jessie Watford. After losing her mother as an infant she was lovingly raised by her maternal grandparents and aunts until attending Powder Springs Academy, in Powder Springs, Ga. She attended school there for one year and was called home to Madrid to manage the family general store at age 14. She moved with her family to Okeechobee in 1926 where she met and married Paul Burdeshaw, who died in 1946 leaving four children. After raising her children she married David Cassel in 1958, who died in 1960. She married Rev. V. J. Ragsdale on Aug. 21, 1965 and they served thc Methodist Churches around the State of Florida until their retirement to Okeechobee in 1979, where they continued to minister for thc conference in many needed roles for many years, always staunch supporters of the church and congregation.
Mrs. Ragsdale was preceded in death by her parents Edward O. and Jessie Watford; brothers, Carl Watford and Mark Watford; her three spouses; sons-in-law, Ward Gubler and Bill Williams and grandson Dennis Gubler.
Survivors include: daughters, Beth Gubler and Paula Williams; sons, John E. (Clariece) Burdeshaw, Ben (Judy) Burdeshaw, all of Okeechobee; step-sons, Dr. Denny (Frances Jane) Ragsdale from Melbourne, and Rev. Dural (Denise) Ragsdale from Macon, Miss; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, five great, great grandchildren; brother, Edward O, (Myrtle) Watford, Jr. from Sneads; sisters, Anna Margaret King of Oxford, Ga. and Betty Burk from Hodgesville, Ala. and many loving friends.
Viewing will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 10. Burial will fo11ow at Evergreen Cemetery.
If preferred, memorials may he made to the Methodist Children's home c/o First United Methodist Church in Okeechobee.
Arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services

Hildegard J. Stevenson
Hildegard J. Stevenson, age 80, of Okeechobee, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at the Okeechobee Health Care Facility. Born Oct. 23, 1923, in Wiesbaden, Germany. Mrs. Stevenson had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1964. She was a charter member of the Women of the Moose, a life member of the VFW and VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Eagles.
Mrs. Stevenson was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Stevenson,
Survivors include: her beloved companion, Edward Eugene Bohren of Okeechobee and one sister, Helma Blum of British Columbia.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Okeechobee Moose Lodge, 159 N.W. 36 St. on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Women of the Moose # 956.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Delmer Purdy Jr.
Delmer Purdy Jr., age 74, of Okeechobee, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Raulerson Hospital. Born May 9, 1927, in Jamestown, Ind., Mr. Purdy was a farmer by occupation and a veteran.
Survivors include: his wife Charleen Purdy of Okeechobee; son Jeffrey Purdy of Jamestown, Ind.; daughter, Charla K. Schoeff of Walbash, Ind.; and, four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be in Jamestown, Ind. Burial will follow in Jamestown I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Jamestown, Ind.
Arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Funeral Home.

Franklin V. Myrick Jr.
Franklin V. Myrick Jr, age 54, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at his residence. Born Nov. 20, 1946, in Olean, N.Y., Mr. Myrick, a former resident of Decatur, Ill., had been a resident of Okeechobee since April. He was a member of the Living Word of Faith Church in Okeechobee and a volunteer at Raulerson Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Myrick Sr. and brother, David F. Myrick.
Survivors include: his mother, June M. Cook (Bob) of Okeechobee; two brothers, Gary Lee Myrick of West Palm Beach and Douglas M. Myrick (Marlene) of Rochester, N.Y.; and one sister, Pat Beecher of Okeechobee.
There will be no visitation or services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Okeechobee, P.O. Box 1548, Okeechobee, FL., 34973.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Cherie L. Sawyer
Cherie L. Sawyer, age 56, of Sebring, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001. Born in Fort Pierce, coming to Sebring from Okeechobee in 1969.
Mrs. Sawyer was a former employee for Dr. C. Fred Wilson and employed for Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home for the past 12 years, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Okeechobee and attended Bible Fellowship Church in Sebring.
Survivors include: her husband Frank Sawyer of Sebring; stepsons, Jeff Sawyer of Fort Pierce and Brett Sawyer of Sebastian; daughter Franki Sawyer of Sebring; stepdaughter, Susan Staffieri of Boylston, Mass.; mother, Helen R. Davis of Okeechobee; brother Gary Davis of Okeechobee; sisters Glenelen Tomlinson of Plant City and Mary Faith Fawley of Mt. Crawford, Va.; and, five grandchildren.
Visitation will be Nov. 8, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home, in Sebring.
Funeral service will be Friday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. at Bible Fellowship Church with Dr. Eugene Bengston officiating.
Interment will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bible Fellowship or Dunklin Memorial Camp.
Funeral arrangements are by Stephen-Nelson Funeral Home of Sebring.

Mary Laney Day
Mary Laney Day, age 65, of Okeechobee, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at Raulerson Hospital. Born March 26, 1936, in Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. Day had been a resident of Okeechobee for 18 years.
Survivors include: her husband of 24 years, Frank Day of Okeechobee; stepson, Frank Day Jr. (Sandra) of Eatonton, Ga.; daughter, Edith Johnson (Jerry) of Pegram, Tenn.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Martha Brown of Celina, Tenn. and Ruth Smith of Greenfield, Ind.
Visitation and funeral services will be under the direction of Upton Funeral Home, West Lake Avenue, Celina, Tenn. Interment will be in Fitzgerald Cemetery in Celina.
All local arrangements were under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Jerry Lee Ford
Jerry Lee Ford, age 75, of Lake Placid, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at his residence. He was born in Arcadia and attended school in Labelle and Miami. Mr. Ford was a heavy equipment operator and a farmer. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Survivors include: his wife of 54 years, Margaret of Lake Placid; son, J.T. of Okeechobee; sister, Dorothy Longmire of Lake Placid; brother, Lawrence, Jr. of Sebring and Ray of Labelle; grandsons, Allen and Thomas; granddaughters, Melissa, Jeannie, Cassie and Stephanie; and great granddaughter, Jadah; and, many nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m., at the Ministry Center on S.R. 29 in Lake Placid. Memorials may be given to the Ministry Center or Life Path Hospice.

Helen L. Webster
Helen L. Webster, age 92, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital. She was born Aug. 4, 1911, at Scituate, Mass., daughter of Robert H. and Bessie Jane (Smith) Stevens.
Mrs. Webster was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith. She came to Okeechobee from Pompano Beach 27 years ago.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Stevens.
Survivors include: her loving husband, Norman R. Webster of Okeechobee; one son, Robert D. Webster of Ft. Lauderdale; two sisters, Dorothy F. Olson of Pensacola and Hazel Devine of Weymouth, Mass.; grandson, Alan Webster of Ft. Lauderdale; and, great granddaughter, Jessica J. Webster of Ft. Lauderdale.
Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m., until service time at 11 at the Bass Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m., at the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home Chapel. Internment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Martha's House, P.O. Box 727, Okeechobee, Fla. 34973.

Thelma O. Buettner
Thelma O. Buettner, age 85, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at her residence. Born March 2, 1916, in Spanish Town, Jamaica, Mrs. Buettner had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1984 and was a member of Oakview Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a stepson, Gary Buettner.
Survivors include: her husband of 38 years, Bert E. Buettner of Okeechobee; daughters, Doreen Elardi of Okeechobee and Marie Sharpe of Miami; sons, James Sharpe and Arthur Sharpe of Miami; 11 grandchildren; and, six great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is also survived by stepdaughters, Sharron Sharr of Miami and Kay Braemer of Peachtree City, Ga.; seven step grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and brother, Neville Rose of Toronto, Canada.
A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, Nov. 9, at 11:30 a.m. at Oakview Baptist Church, 677 S.W. 32nd St., with Rev. Dr. John Keith, Pastor, officiating.

Ruth V. Handshaw
Ruth V. Handshaw, age 87, of Okeechobee, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Raulerson Hospital. Born June 28, 1914, in Bayshore, N.Y., Mrs. Handshaw had been a resident of Okeechobee for 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Handshaw, and sisters, Averill Spahr and Grace Johnson.
Survivors include: two daughters, Nancy Clark and husband Bill, of Bryan, Texas and Karen Barrett and husband, Dale of Okeechobee; one son, Martin C. Handshaw and wife, Joyce of Miramar; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation or services.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.
