James Clayton Walker
James Clayton Walker, age 6O, died at Lawnwood Medical Center in Ft. Pierce on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004. Mr. Walker was born on Oct. 6, 1943, in Murray, Ky., to Clayton Franklin and Nelly Walker.
Mr. Walker was a veteran of the U.S. Army Airborne Division having served his country in Vietnam. While serving our nation he was awarded: Purple Heart w/OLC, Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device 1960, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal w/3 bronze stars, Parachutist Badge, National Defense Service medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/ Palm Unit Citation Badge, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal, First Class Unit Citation, Dept. of Army Commendation (2), and the Silver Star Medal. He later went on to be an auto mechanic. Mr. Walker was a member of the D.A.V. of Okeechobee.
Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his father, Clayton Franklin Walker and two brothers, William F. and Donald L. Walker.
Survivors include: his mother, Nelly Walker; sister, Carol Ann Powell (George) and two brothers, Bruce M. Walker of East Branch, N.Y. and Joseph E. Walker (Drema) of Okeechobee, also several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services with VFW South Post Honors will be held Sunday, Jan. 11, at 2 p.m. at the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Chapel.
All arrangements are entrusted to the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Golden L. Walters
Golden L. Walters, age 80, of St. Petersburg, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at St. Petersburg General Hospital. Born in Ashland, Ky., he moved to Okeechobee in 1983 from Gahanna, Ohio and to St. Petersburg in 2003. He was a former forklift driver for 27 years for Federal Glass in Columbus, Ohio and a painter. During WWII he served in the Army and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed gospel and country music and was an avid fisherman and Baptist.
Survivors include: two daughters Marilyn Zablo of St. Petersburg, and Barbara Ward of Gahanna, Ohio; brother, Clinton Walters of Dearborn, Mich.; sister, Frieda Gaudill of Detroit, Mich. and three grandchildren.
All arrangements are entrusted to Gee and Sorensen Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3180 30th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, Florida 33713.

Michael Lee Wester, Jr.
Michael Lee Wester, Jr., age 31, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Hospice of the Treasure Coast in Fort Pierce. Born Sept. 17, 1972, in West Palm Beach, Mr. Wester had been a resident of Okeechobee for 25 years. His hobbies included fishing and hunting.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 11 years, Pamela Wester of Okeechobee; two daughters, Ashley and Jasmine Wester of Okeechobee; parents, Michael Wester, Sr. and Glenda Wester of Okeechobee; brother, Billy Wester of N.C.; sisters, Cecelia (Steve) Klisus of Hobe Sound, Barbara (Billy) Sutton of Fort Pierce, Leann Wester and Deann (Jason) Rhoden of Okeechobee, paternal grandmother, Dovie Hershey; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be conducted on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at 4 p.m. at the Believer's Fellowship Church, 300 S.W. Sixth Ave., with Pastor Nick Hopkins, officiating.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Lars J. Miller Jr.
Lars J. Miller Jr., age 65, of Okeechobee, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital. Born Feb. 25, 1936, in Lumberton, Miss., Mr. Miller, formerly of Fort Pierce, had been a resident of Okeechobee for 10 years. He was an auto mechanic by trade.
Survivors include: son, Lars Kyle Miller of Okeechobee; three daughters, Ricea Kula and Linda (Danny) Marsocci, all of Okeechobee and Gina (Ray) Morris of Port St. Lucie; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two brothers, Thomas A. Miller (Phyllis Earline) of Dunnellen and Terry K. Miller (Martha) of Fort Pierce.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 10, from 11 a.m. until 1p.m.
Funeral services will follow visitation at 1 p.m., with Reverend Dr. John Keith, Pastor of Oakview Baptist Church, officiating.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Clara Mae Spencer
Clara Mae Spencer, age 76, died Dec. 29, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital. Mrs. Spencer was born on July 28, 1927, in Savannah, Ga. to Freddie Jones and Alice Robinson. Her family moved to Okeechobee in the early 1950's where she later married John Wesley Spencer. Mrs. Spencer was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Spencer was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John W. Spencer; son, Willie Jones; and, two brothers.
Survivors include: two daughters, Gloria Jean Simmons (Henry Futch) and Clarice Brown (Frankie); one son, Joe Anthony Jones; two sisters, Eloise Bullard and Rosa Lee Thomas; two brothers, James Perry (Leola) and Donnell Bullard (Clover); three sisters-in-law, Birdie, Barbara and Lottie; one great aunt, Mary Lee Robinson; special niece, Dyette Spencer; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and, three Godchildren, Terry Williams, Brenda Hayes and Terry Cotton.
Visitation will be Saturday. Jan.10, from 10 a.m., at the First Missionary Baptist Church until the funeral service begins at 11 a.m., with Reverend Leroy B. Smith officiating.
Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Okeechobee.
All arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Alfred Loyd Smith
Alfred Loyd Smith, age 74, of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004. Born Nov. 4, 1929 in Henagar, Ala., Mr. Smith had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1966. He enjoyed fishing, working and was of the Baptist Faith.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Maud Smith; stepmother, Stella Mae Smith; sister, Eva Mae Thornhill; brother, Lawrence Smith; and, half brother, Coy Smith.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 47 years, Annah Smith of Okeechobee; son, Ronald (Charlene) Smith of Okeechobee; daughters, Elizabeth (William, Jr.) Ward of Okeechobee and Shelby (Perry) Thomas of Marianna; two granddaughters, Jessica and Kelly Smith of Okeechobee; sister, Geraldine Darwin of Pisgah, Ala.; and, half brother, Elden (Linda) Smith of Trenton, Ga.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Sunday, Jan. 11, from 2 until 5 p.m.
Graveside funeral services and interment will be conducted at Basinger Cemetery on Monday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m., with Reverend Noah Taylor, pastor of North Okeechobee Church of God, officiating.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Shirley Whitman Kirton
Shirley Whitman Kirton, age 52, of Timbo, Ark., died Sept. 25, 2003. Mrs. Kirton was born Jan. 3, 1951 in Palm Beach, and was formerly of Okeechobee.
Mrs. Kirton was preceded in death: by her husband, H. Spencer Kirton; her mother, Vivian Nolan; and, father, Morris Whitman.
Survivors include: one brother, Steve Whitman of Palm Beach; one son, Sean M. Prevatt of Okeechobee; one daughter, Jennifer Prevatt Herbst; four grandchildren, Justin and Caitlen Prevatt, Brett Herbst and Kierra Braswell, all of Okeechobee; and, two nephews, Steven Whitman of Okeechobee and Jacob (Tracy) Whitman of Palm Beach.
Crematory services were provided by Crestlawn Crematory of Conway, Ark.
Interment will be held at the Jupiter Inlet in Jupiter on Jan. 11, at 11:30 a.m.
In memory contributions can be made to Hospice of Okeechobee at 411 S.E. Fourth St. Okeechobee, Fla. 34974.

William "Stan" Stanley Childs
William "Stan" Stanley Childs, age 80, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce. Born Oct. 19, 1923, in Pelham, Ga., Mr. Childs had been a resident of Okeechobee for 26 years. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the U.S. Coast Guard. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Oakview Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Childs.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 53 years, Mary Childs of Okeechobee; two sons, Michael Childs of Woodland Hill, Calif. and Alvin (Andrea) Childs of Okeechobee; one daughter, Gail (Robert) Meyers of Fort Lauderdale; six grandchildren; and, two sisters, Ruth Campbell of Pelham, Ga. and Hilda Jean Faukner of Columbus, Ga.
There will be no visitation or services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oakview Baptist Church, 677 S.W. 32nd St., Okeechobee, Fla. 34974.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Edwin H. Stark
Edwin H. Stark, age 90, of Okeechobee, died Dec. 15, 2003, at Raulerson Hospital. He was a carpenter and professional pianist.
Survivors include: three sons, David, Gerald (Helene), Robert (Gwen), all of Rochester, N.Y.; two daughters, Sharon (Bill) of Daytona and Linda Lewis of Calif.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and, also his caring companion, Chickie Harmon.
There were no services.
All arrangements were provided by All County Crematory, 1107 Lake Ave. Lake Worth, Florida 33460.

Harvey Nelson Eubank
Harvey Nelson Eubank, age 82, of Okeechobee, died Saturday Jan. 3, 2004, at his residence. Born Feb. 15, 1921, to Holly and Martha Haggard Eubank, Mr. Eubank, formerly of Winchester and Covington, Ky., had been a resident of Okeechobee for 20 years. A lifetime member of the VFW, he served in the U.S. Army-Air Force during WWII as a tail-gunner. He was an avid fisherman and a member of the Taylor Creek Bass Club. He was bestowed with the honor of Kentucky Colonel.
Mr. Eubank was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Eubank.
Survivors include: his wife of 43 years, Catherine Louise Eubank of Okeechobee; two sons, Harvey (Joan) Nelson Eubank, Jr. of Stuart and Steve Eubank of Winchester, Ky.; two stepsons, Doug (Nancy) Hill of Stonnington, Maine and Kenneth (Nancy) Hill of Georgetown, Ky.; four grandchildren, Branson Eubank of Paris, Ky., Eli and Emily Hill of Stonnington, Maine and Jason Hill of Georgetown, Ky.; and, many loving nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation or services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Okeechobee, P.O. Box 1548, Okeechobee, Florida 34973.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Noble Richard Sweazey
Nobel Richard Sweazey, age 88, of Okeechobee, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Raulerson Hospital. Born Jan. 12, 1915, in Freemont, Ohio, Mr. Sweazey, a former 43 year resident of Fort Lauderdale, had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1996. He was a member of the Broward Conservation Club and Peace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking and gardening.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 66 years, Dorothy Sweazey of Okeechobee; one son, Noble (Mary Lynn) Lee Sweazey of Fort Lauderdale; one daughter, Bonnie (Lex) Kinsey of Okeechobee; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and, three sisters, Betty Quackenbush of Freemont, Ohio, Ruth Johnstone of Bay City, Mich. and Martha Mac Swiat of Lady Lake.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 8, from 10 a.m. until noon. A memorial service will be conducted at the Peace Lutheran Church, 750 NW 23rd Lane on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 2 p.m., with Pastor John Hirst, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church.
A11 arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Judy Arlene Engleman
Judy Arlene Engleman, age 75, died Dec. 31, 2001. Born May 9, 1929 in Chantauqua, N.Y., Ms. Engleman had been a resident of Okeechobee and of Vero Beach.
Survivors include: daughters, Robbin (Walter) Henderson of Snellville, Ga. and Faun and Ernest of Fayetteville, Ga.; grandchildren: Ryan Robinson of Snellville, Ga., Robert Engleman of Stockbridge, Ga., Nicholas Haney of Fayetteville, Ga., Jennifer Payne of McDonough, Ga. and Rene' Bracey of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Rose Van De Werk of Winder, Ga. and Marion Carlson of Erie, Pa.; five great-grandchildren also survive her.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m., at Wages Snellville Chapel in Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Humane Society in memory of Judy Arlene Engleman
Arrangements are under the direction of Tom M. Wages Funeral Service, Inc., Snellville Chapel, Georgia.

Charles Arnold Sasser
Charles Arnold Sasser, age 74, of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital. Born Aug. 10, 1927, in Halls, Tenn. Mr. Sasser had been a resident of Okeechobee for 11 years. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and is a member of the VFW in Sherman, Texas; Moose Lodge in Gary, Ind. and Merchant Marines. He was a pipeline welder by trade.
Preceded in death by one brother, Robert Sasser.
Survivors include: his devoted wife, Lenora Sasser of Okeechobee; son, Steven E. Sasser of Howe, Texas; daughter, Cherie Harris of Fort Worth, Texas; sister, Barbara Jones of Union City, Tenn.; stepson, Michael Harris and wife, Faith of Tioga, Penn.; stepdaughter, Christine Fiscus and husband, Mike of Laurel, Md.; and two step granddaughters, Jennifer Fiscus and Kerri Fiscus, both of Laurel, Md.
Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Buxton Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, Jan. 6, at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Halls, Tenn.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Thomas Lee Bond
Thomas Lee Bond, age 68, of Okeechobee, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Raulerson Hospital. Born March 27, 1933, in Opilacka, to Edward T. and Eleanor E. (Bishop) Bond. Mr. Bond formerly worked as a maintenance man for South Florida Water Management District.
Survivors include: his wife, Patricia Bond of Okeechobee; son, Dennis Rutherford and wife, Carol of Okeechobee; brothers, Howard Bond of Rosehill, N.C. and Walter Bond of Georgia; grandchildren, April and Jessica Rutherford; and his great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Marcus also survive him.
Visitation is Friday, Jan. 4, at 5 until 7 p.m., at the Bass Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 5, at 10:30 a.m., at the Bass Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Ralph Crowell officiating. Interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Bass Funeral Home.

Robert H. Bates
Robert H. Bates, age, 59, of Okeechobee, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Raulerson Hospital. Born Jan. 15, 1942, in Dry Creek, Ky. Mr. Bates was the son of Can and Anna Bates. He was a coal minor and Detroit Diesel assembler by trade. He was a member of the American Legion, the Moose Lodge and Eagles.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Can Marvin Bates Jr.
Survivors include: son, Charles Bates of Longfork of Virgie, Ky.; daughter, Anna Jo Bates of Longfork of Virgie, Ky.; brother, Carter Bates of New Carlisle, Ohio; and sister, Mabel Back of Lexington, Ky.
A private service was held at Bass Funeral Home.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Bass Funeral Home.

Betty K. Kinsaul
Betty K. Kinsaul, age 60, of Okeechobee and Canal Point, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2001, at her residence. Born Dec. 17, 1941, in White Hall, Ark., Mrs. Kinsaul had been a resident of Okeechobee and Canal Point for the past 12 years.
Survivors include: her husband of three years, Billy Darrell Kinsaul; four daughters, Patricia (Steve) Spohn of Illinois, Mary (Chad) Howard of Berwyn, Ill., JoAnn (Lee) Braasch of Trevor, Wis. and Linda (Tony) Lobello of Lyons, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Stephanie Spohn, Johnnie Howard, Brandy Howard, C.J. Howard, Samantha Braasch, Emily Braasch, Melissa Braasch, Jeanna Braasch, Sarah Braasch, Betsy Lobello and Holly Lobello; one great-grandchild, Brandon Spohn; brother, Andrew (Charlene) Goad of Murphysboro, Ill.; four sisters, Orlee (Richard) DelCamp of Ann Arbor, Mich., Elizabeth (Ross) McCarther of Harrisburg, Ark., Yvonne (Mike) Neil of Wayne, Mich. and Joyce (Paul) DelGudice of Jackson, Mich. also survive her.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date in Harrisburg, Arkansas.
All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Kenneth Gordon Rucks
Kenneth Gordon Rucks, age 70, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004 at Tampa General Hospital. Mr. Rucks was born Aug. 29, 1933, in Kendall to J.C. Rucks and Ruby Gay. Mr. Rucks was a manager at Wilson Rucks Dairy in Okeechobee. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Mr. Rucks was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Ruby Rucks, his sister, Clara B. Hayes, and his brother James Rucks.
Survivors include; one sister, Mattie Taber of Keystone Heights, one brother, Wilson S. Rucks of Okeechobee; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 4, at Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home from 4 until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 5, at 10 a.m. at Freewill Baptist Church with Thomas Dees officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
All arrangements are entrusted to the loving care of the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
