Mary L. Root
Root, Mary L. died, Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at Holmes County Medical Center. She celebrated her 87th birthday on the June 15th. Mary was born to Harry B. Smith, New York, NY and Christine Ring, County Kilkenny, Ireland on June 15, 1919 in New York City. She married Michael Joseph Knowles in 1948 in Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church where her father was sexton. They moved to Zephyrhills in 1973. They loved to travel throughout the United States in their Airstream trailer. Mary loved to square-dance and both loved to listen to Scottish and Irish music. They were parishioners of St Joseph Catholic Parish. Mike passed way in 1985 and she met met and married Charles Root. Mary is survived by two daughters, Ann Lukens, Moody AFB, GA and Maryellen “Pat” Bodkin, Patchogue, NY and a son Michael Knowles, Palm Bay, FL, four grandchildren, Matthew Lukens, Shawn and Jennifer Knowles and Kathleen Bodkin; two great-grandchildren Ashley and Taylor Grace Lukens. She is preceded by husbands, Michael Knowles, Charles Root, parents, Harry and Christine and a brother Robert Smith. A service will be held at 10:00 AM at Hodges Family Funeral Home, 11441 Hwy 301 in Dade City Saturday, June 24, 2006. Father George Rozyki will officiate. In lieu of flowers send donations in Mary’s memory to the American Cancer Society.

Margaret Lee Hill
Hill, Margaret Lee, 91, passed away June 20, 2006. She was born April 25, 1915 in Richmond, VA. She lived for her family! She is survived by her loving children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed! Arrangements were made by Hodges Family Funeral Home.

Henry Gardner Quirk
Quirk, Henry Gardner, 79, Zephyrhills, died Saturday, June 17, 2006 at his home. He was born September 7, 1926 in Brighton, Mass. and moved here in 2004 from Stuart, Oklahoma. He was a retired member of the U.S. Merchant Marine which he served in from 1943 to 1968. He served during WWII and survived aboard a torpedoed ship and mined ship. Survivors include his son Richard Quirk and grandson Nathaniel Quirk.

Carol L. Prynn
Prynn, Carol L., 70, of 11234 Corey Pavin Lane, San Antonio, Florida, beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, died on June 18, 2006 in Zephyrhills. She was born November 15, 1935 in Chillicothe, IL, to Frederick Paul and Anna Marie Werner Gollnitz, she married Willard “Bill” Prynn, on December 28, 1956 in Joliet, IL. She is survived by her loving husband and three children, Shellie & Mike Barth, Bill & Audrey Prynn, Greg & Lori Prynn, her seven grandchildren, Peter Barth, Will Prynn, Chelsie Barth, Carley Prynn, McKenna Prynn, Abby Prynn, Holly Prynn, one sister Ann Cheville, and brother Rich & Judy Gollnitz. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, two brothers, and one sister. Carol was known for her deep faith in Christ, unending love for her family, out-going personality, and love of life. She served the community as a nurse working in the clinical, visiting, and school settings. She was an active alumni of the Silver Cross Nurses Hospital in Joliet, IL. A memorial service will be held at St. Anskar’s Episcopal Church, 481 Spring Creek Road, Rockford, IL at 2pm, Saturday, June 24, 2006. A visitation will precede the mass at 1pm for family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF) or the American Diabetic Association.

Patricia Anne Miller
Miller, Patricia Anne, 70, Zephyrhills, FL passed away Friday, June 16, 2006. She was born January 25, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA. She was a Secretary in theTransportation/Quarry industry. She is survived by two sons, John Joseph (Rose) Miller, of Pittsburg, PA and Phillip Raymond (Donna) Miller, N. Pitcher, NY, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is preceded by her husband Clarence Miller in 2005. She will be greatly missed.

Lavon "Bonnie" Kerran
Kerran, Lavon “Bonnie”, 84, Zephyrhills passed away June 15, 2006 in Hernando-Pasco Hospice in Dade City. She was born in Seibert, Colorado and came in 1998. She is survived by her loving family including her daughter Wanda O’Neil, Brooksville; a sister, Nina Lou Ford, Flagler Colorado and several nieces and nephews. Services were held in Flagler.

Dorothy M. Fowler
Fowler, Dorothy M. 85, of Zephyrhills, Florida, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Gulfside Regional Hospice, Dade City, Florida. She was born April 21, 1921 in Pierre, South Dakota. Mrs. Fowler has lived in Florida the past year, moving from Neillsville, Wisconsin and previously lived in Florida for 4 or 5 years. She had lived in Milwaukee most of her adult life. She had been a waitress and a school custodian for Neillsville Schools. She was a member St. Johns Lutheran Church, Niellsville. She was preceded in death by her husband Chester “Chet” Fowler, a daughter, Wendy Mae Stebnitz, sister Myrtle Kastner and brother, Clarence Whitfield. She is survived by daughter, Karen Jensen of Wesley Chapel and a son, Bruce Stebnitz of Sumner, Washington; sisters, Helen Morrey of Friendship , Wisconsin and Florence Roeglin of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. A Graveside Inurnment service on 1:15 pm Tuesday , June 27, 2006 will take place at the Neillsville Cemetery, Neillsville, Wisconsin with Pastor Biebert of St. Johns Lutheran Church officiating.

John C. Purvis
Purvis, John C., of Brooksville, left this life on June 18, 2006 at the age of 59. Mr. Purvis was born in Mattoon, IL to parents Lawrence and Viola Purvis. He was raised in Bradenton, FL, was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was a lover of golf and all animals. Mr. Purvis is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Lynda, his two sons Jim Tolar (Karen) of Kansas City and Robert Tolar (Rebecca) of Spring Hill, and his seven beloved grandchildren. A memorial service for Mr. Purvis will be held at 10:30am on Thursday June 22, 2006 at the Presbyterian Church in Dade City. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at 920 Main Street Suite 280, Kansas City, MO 64105.

Edith Monroe
Monroe, Edith, 79, of Crystal River, left this life on June 18, 2006. Mrs. Monroe was born in Frankfurt, West Germany on September 26, 1926 to parents Joseph and Elisabeth Wilhelm. She moved to this country in 1948 and to Zephyrhills in May of 1982. She recently relocated to Crystal River where she lived with her son and daughter-in-law. While living in Crystal River she was a volunteer at the Citrus County Senior Center and a member of the Rock Crusher Church of God. Mrs. Monroe is described by her family as one who loved to serve others and would do anything she could to lend a helping hand. Mrs. Monroe is preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Maxwell Monroe. She is survived by her son Arnold Joseph Monroe (Sheree) of Crystal River, her daughter Marilyn White (Ken) of Winfield, Alabama, her three grandchildren Mark Jackson of Winfield, AL, Nicholas Monroe of Clarksville, AK, and Stephanie Monroe of Crystal River, as well as her dear friend Phyllis Doyle of Zephyrhills. She will be missed by all who knew her. Services will be held on Friday, June 23, 2006 at Hodges Family Funeral Home (11441 U.S. Hwy 301, Dade City). Visiting hours will be held from 10:00am – 11:00am and services will begin at 11:00am. Internment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery.
