Blocker, Norman Eugene, 61, of Blanton, FL, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at his home. He was born July 28, 1945 in Dade City, to Norman Geddie http://totaldrek.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_totaldrek_archive.htmlBlocker and Grace Jewell Lee Blocker, a pioneer family in the Blanton Community. He was a life member of the N.R.A., a member of the Lakeland Rifle and Pistol Range, an avid Benchrest Competition Shooter, and had attended the Blanton Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife: Lora Anderson Blocker, Blanton, FL; his son: Michael Eugene & Beth Blocker, Brooksville, FL; his brother: Ronald & Diana Blocker, McAlpine, FL; and 1 granddaughter: Bethany. Funeral services were held 1pm Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the Hodges Family Funeral Home 301 Chapel. Burial followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Friends called from 6-8pm Friday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in his memory to the Pioneer Florida Museum, PO Box 335, Dade City, FL 33526, the American Heart Association, 9900 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. N., St. Petersburg, FL 33716, or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1131, Fairfax, VA 22038-1131.

James William Manuel
Manuel, James William, 84, of Pocahontas, AR, passed away October 21, 2006 at Randolph County Medical Center in Pocahontas. He was born October 10, 1922 in Vevay, IN, to the late Rex Manuel and Mary Katherine Cole Manuel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Dorothy Hawk Manuel; and 1 sisters: Mable Adams. He worked as a Welder for 22 years at Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis, IN, and was of the Baptist Faith. He lived in Pocahontas with his niece and nephew as care givers for the last three and one half years. He is survived by 2 brothers: Lunis Manuel, Madison, IN, Charles Manuel, Vevay, IN; 1 sister: Elizabeth Adams, Speedway, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held 2:30pm Thursday, October 26, 2006 at Hodges Family Funeral Home 301 Chapel. Burial followed at Chapel Hill Gardens. Friends called from 11am until service time Thursday.

Donald C. Mahlke
Mahlke, Donald C., 85, of BetMar Acres, Zephryhills passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2006. He was born April 1, 1921 in Lodi, Wisconsin, the son of John and Bertha Mahlke. He has lived in Zephyrhills the last 13 years, moving from Lodi, Wisconsin. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Zephyrhills and former member of Lodi United Methodist Church, where he had been an usher at both. He was a WWII Army Veteran, Past Master of Lodi Valley Masonic Lodge and was a former mayor of Lodi. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice in 1993. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Arlene; his three daughters, Sue Morschhauser of Oregon, WI, Sandra Smith and her husband, Gary of Cottage Grove, WI and Ellen Fisk and her husband, Doug of Baraboo, WI; his three sisters, Emily Moody of Ames, Iowa, Ruth Opyt of Chicago, IL and Joyce Hillistad of Lodi, WI; his stepchildren: Kimbra Elser and her husband Garry of Thonotosassa, FL; Christopher Ihrke and James Mudry, both of Gibsonton, FL, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial services were held at 11 am., Saturday, October 28 at First United Methodist Church, Zephyrhills with Rev. Craig Ford officiating.

Ronald B. Herman
Herman, Ronald B., 59, of Zephyrhills, Florida, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2006 at Dade City Hospital. Ronald moved to this area from Kansas City, Missouri in 1999. He was member of the Teamsters and the Wedgewood Manor Tuesday Night Poker Club. He loved playing poker and the lottery. His greatest joy was in loving and taking care of his family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Herman; father, Carl Herman; sisters, Connie Herman and Sandia Schwirtz; and brother, Carl Herman, Jr. He is loved and will be missed by his wife, Barbara Herman of Zephyrhills; sister, Stephanie Pipes of Zephyrhills; daughters, Millissa Herman and Christeen Herman, both of Missouri; step-daughters, Deberah Davis of Florida, and Patricia (Jeffery) Hosey of Virginia; step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at 11:00 am, at the 8th Street Chapel, Zephyrhills, of Hodges Family Funeral Home.

Junius L. Rowland Jr.
ROWLAND, Junius Lloyd Jr., 91, of Dade City, Fla., passed away Saturday, October 21, 2006, at Pasco Regional Medical Center. Born June 3, 1915, in Petersburg, Va., he was the son of the late Junius and Viola (Schrock) Rowland. Junius was one out of five brothers to serve in the U.S. Army 1939-1946 and shipped out of Pearl Harbor on the last boat out before the bombing. He was united in marriage to Jessie Alma (Johnson) August 9, 1942, in Enterprise, Ala. He moved to Dade City ftom Alabama in 1945 and worked as a grovesman in the citrus industry. Some of his enjoyments were cooking, baking and gardening. He was predeceased by one son, Zane Rowland; three brothers, Ralph, Benard, and Carlton Rowland. He is survived by his loving family including two sons, Mike (Connie) Bess from Dade City, and Roy (Lowretha) Rowland from Dade City; two daughters, Lynell Stephens from Tampa and Diane (Steve) Olvera from Dade City.; three brothers, Charles, Rudy and Donnie Rowland; and one sister, Rachel Ozmar; all from Petersburg, VA; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m. October 24, 2006, at Hodges Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Juanita Acton officiating.

Barbara L. Dew
Dew, Barbara LaVerne, 78, of Dade City, FL, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 22, 2006 at her home. She was born April 1, 1928 in Glendale, CA, to Alton George Daniel Jones and Eva Marie Johnson. She moved to the Dade City area 35 years ago and was active with the Faith Baptist Church. She is survived by 2 sons: Bill & Gail Dew, Crystal Springs, FL, Phillip Dew, Zellwood, FL; 1 sister: Sharon Kenny, Paso Robles, CA; 1 brother: Whitney Jones, Morro Bay, CA; 2 grandchildren: Michael & Wendy Dew, Apopka, FL, Shana Dew, St. Louis, MO; 2 great grandchildren: Aimee Dew and Ethan Dew.

Douglas Buchanan
BUCHANAN, Douglas "Mac," 64, of Dade City, Fla., died Thursday, October 19, 2006, at home. He was a native and lifelong resident of Dade City, Fla., and was a Baptist by faith. Survivors include his children, Allen Buchanan of Surprise, Ariz., Lenny Buchanan of Phoenix, Ariz., Rena Buchanan of Surprise, Arlen Buchanan of Coleman, Fla., Sheryl Buchanan of Zephyrhills, Fla. and Darrell Buchanan of Lacoochee, Fla; his mother, Pauline E. Frye of Dade City, Fla.; five brothers, Frank Buchanan of New Port Richey, Fla., Gene Buchanan of Lakeland, Fla., Herman "Buck" Buchanan of Dade City, Fla., Fred Buchanan of Troy, Ala. and Sammy Buchanan of Lacoochee, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at the Funeral Home, 5th Street Chapel. Funeral services were conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Marvin Strickland officiating. Burial followed at Chapel Hill Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to them, to help with current expenses.

Jose M. Florez, Sr.
Florez, Jose M., Sr., 77, of Dade City, died Saturday, October 21, 2006 at home. A long time resident of this area, he was a retired laborer and was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca; his children, Gloria Florez, Delfino Florez, Nicolas Florez, David Florez, Leticia Romero, Memo Rocha, Juan Rocha, Luis Rocha; and numerous grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Jose Florez, Jr. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2006, 5th Street Chapel. A Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church and burial followed at Dade City Cemetery.

Elmurie Quinn
Quinn, Elmurie, 72 of Sanford left this life on October 19, 2006 while at her home. Mrs. Quinn was born in Livingston, TX on September 17, 1934 to parents Reval and Esther Jones. She came to Florida 35 years ago and lived in Dade City with her beloved husband of 52 years Robert Quinn. Mrs. Quinn leaves behind her loving husband, two children Linda Dittman and Timothy Quinn, three grandchildren; Alan Landau, Joshua Quinn, and Natalie Quinn, and sister Edna Moraldo. To everyone that she knew Mrs. Quinn was unbelievably loving and generous and she will be missed by all who knew her. Services for Mrs. Quinn were held at Hodges Family Funeral Home (14046 5th Street, Dade City) on Monday October 23, 2006. Visitation was held from 10 – 11:00am with a service at 11:00am and internment followed at Florida National Cemetery.

Rostam Bondari
Bondari, Rostam, 78, of San Antonio, FL, passed away Friday, October 13, 2006 at Pasco Regional Medical Center in Dade City. He was born August 1, 1928 in Yazd, Iran, and moved to this area 7 months ago from Illinois. He was a retired Pharmacist. He is survived by his wife: Katayoon Behdinian, San Antonio, FL; 2 sons: Cyrus Bondari, Illinois, Siamack Bondari, San Antonio, FL; 3 brothers: Khorsand Bondari, Georgia, Houshang Bondari, Iran, Feraidoon Bondari, Iran; 1 sister: Sarvar Bondari, Dallas, TX; 3 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held 1:30pm Saturday, October 21, 2006 at Hodges Family Funeral Home 301 Chapel. Burial followed at Chapel Hill Gardens. Friends called one hour prior to service time, from 12:30 till 1:30pm at the funeral home.

Richard D. “Shaun” Newsome
Newsome, Richard D. “Shaun”, 30, of Dade City, died Sunday, October 15, 2006 at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills. A life long Dade City resident, he was employed at Robbins Manufacturing in Tarrytown. He was a good man and loved his family. An avid Bucs fan he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Tammy; two daughters, Stephanie and Megan Newsome, both of Dade City; a son, Dustin Newsome of Dade City; and eight siblings, Lee Newsome of Lamesa, Texas, Henry Wayne Newsome of Dade City, Cindy Newsome of Lamesa, Harold Newsome of Wyoming, Shannon Newsome of St. Petersburg, Jerry Bohannon , Lawrence Newsome, and Lonnie Newsome, all of Dade City. Funeral Services were held in the chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary Logan officiating. The family received friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home from 11-1:00 p.m. Burial followed at Dade City Cemetery.

Rita I. Laforce
Laforce, Rita l., 75, of Zephyrhills died Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills, she came here in 1990 from her native Springfield, Massachusetts. She grew up in Agawam Mass. where she worked for the ArtTed Company in Springfield, MA as a coil winder. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Zephyrhills. Survivors include two daughters, Donna King and her husband Jack of Granville, MA and Karen Laforce of Zephyrhills; two sisters, Pearl Bonfitto of Agawam, Mass and Jennie Choiniere of Agawam; two brothers, Dominick Tessicini of Springfield and Salvatore Tessicini of Trinity, FL, ; four grandchildren, Jessica, Ethan and Seth King and Daniel Laforce; and one great granddaughter, Cassidy King. Her husband Donald Laforce preceded her in death. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 in the chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home, 8th Street Chapel, Zephyrhills. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2006 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Florida National Cemetery.

Eleanor L. Pesicka
PESICKA, Eleanor L., 89, of Zephyrhills, Fla., passed away Friday, October 13, 2006, in the nurturing care of the staff at the Williams Palace Assisted Living Facility and Hemando-Pasco Hospice. She was born Eleanor Lillian Tschofen June 24, 1917, in Cleveland, Ohio. She moved to Florida in 1995. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert; her parents, Mary and Joseph Tschofen; three brothers Alfred, Herbert and Ernest; and three sisters, Loretta, Agnes and Mary. Mrs. Pesicka was cherished by her family and is survived by her daughters, Janet Watson (William) of Wesley Chapel and Diane Shafer (Donald) of South Pasadena, Fla.; and son, John Pesicka (Jan), of Bedford, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Janine Nelson, William Scott Watson, Jill Freire, Nora Watson, Brett Shafer, Colleen Gorecki, Tracy Abbott, Robert Pesicka, and Kenneth Pesicka; and four great-grandchildren, Serena Shafer, Eric Abbott, Jacob Nelson, and Ava Pesicka. Mrs. Pesicka graduated from West Technical High School in Cleveland and worked for Everts-Tremaine- Flicker Insurance Agency. She married in 1940, dedicated herself to her family, and returned to a career as an executive secretary for Burns Security after her children were grown. She volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America and for her church. She was a Roman Catholic. A funeral Mass was celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 17, at St. Joseph Church in Zephyrhills, Fla. Memorial donations to Hernando-Pasco Hospice would be appreciated in lieu of flowers. A memorial service will also be conducted at a later date for friends and family in Ohio, prior to burial at All Saints Cemetery in Northfield, Ohio.
