He was born March 22, 1955, in Detroit, Mich., the youngest child of Luther and Ruby (Palmer) Campbell. He was an all-star athlete at Mumford High School in Detroit and played football for Florida A&M University. He was on a national championship team and played on the Rattlers team that beat the Miami Hurricanes and quarterback Jim Kelly, 16-13 in 1977. He had a special bond with his children, giving freely of his time to be with them, especially Wayne II, and enjoyed the time they spent engaged in football together. Wayne extended that love to everyone he came in contact with, on and off the football field, and they, in turn, became part of his family. He kept in touch with many of his "kids" throughout the years. For all of his accomplishments on the football field, Wayne will be most remembered for all the ones off the field: his great, happy spirit, his love for his family and friends, and his enjoyment of passing on the game of football and life. Wayne's family wishes to thank the community for all the love and support that they have received.
