Agostino A. Rizzi, 87, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Aug. 15, 2000, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte.

Funeral services will be held in Stamford. Burial will be at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Stamford. Arrangements are by Paul Schelm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte.

Mary Marguerite Waitneight

Mary Marguerite Waitneight, 90, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Aug. 14, 2000.

Graveside service will be held in West Virginia at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2844 S. Tamiami Trail, No. 208, Bonita Springs, FL 34134. Arrangements are by National Cremation Society, Port Charlotte.

Raymond R. Alves

Raymond R. Alves, 69, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.

He was born March 9, 1934, in Rochester, N.Y. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1951 to 1955, and graduated from the Air Force's navigation school. He served as a navigator with Strategic Air Command. He retired in 1995 after 38 years with United Airlines. He was a winter resident of Blue Heron Pines Golf Community and served on the board there. He worked in the pro shop at Seminole Lakes Golf Club. He was a member of Elks Lodge 260 in Punta Gorda.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa M. Alves; mother-in-law, Mary A. Santino of Newark, N.Y.; two sons, Michael (Cindy) Alves of Cheshire, N.Y., and Shawn Alves of Canandaigua, N.Y.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerome Alves.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at John C. Johnson Funeral Home in Canandaigua. Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at St. Mary's Church in Canandaigua. Burial will be in North Main Cemetery in Newark at convenience of family.

Memorial donations may be made to Pluta Cancer Center, Red Creek Drive, Suite 101, Rochester, NY 14623. Arrangements are by John C. Johnson Funeral Home Inc., Canandaigua.

Nathaniel F. Bowie

Nathaniel F. Bowie, 72, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 7, 1930, in Baltimore, Md. He served in the armed forces for two years. He moved to Port Charlotte in 1987 from Tulsa, Okla., where he was an accountant for Amoco Oil for 31 years. After moving to Florida, he worked for Ambitrans for seven years.

He is survived by his wife, Ann of Port Charlotte; two daughters, Amy Hagerty of Port Charlotte and Rebecca Huffer of Orlando, Fla.; one son, Gary of Las Vegas, Nev.; three granddaughters, Sarah, Jenna and Samantha of Port Charlotte; and an aunt, Harriet Davis of Springville, N.Y.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, in the Port Charlotte chapel at Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, 2405 Harbor Blvd., Port Charlotte.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to L.G.D.A., ALS Research, P.O. Box 11104, Sarasota, FL 34278. Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Jane Daily

Jane Donnelly Daily, 82, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and formerly of Venice, Fla., went to the Lord peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Jane was born Jan. 28, 1921, in New York to James and Anita Redmond. She lived a full life as wife, mother and friend. She and her husband, Gerald Donnelly, retired to Venice in 1982 from Chicago, Ill. She met and married Jack Daily in 1986 and lived in Port Charlotte, where both were active in community arts. Jane was blessed with having many friends here who will miss her. The world is a little smaller without her presence and zest for life.

Jane is survived by her husband, Jack; her sons, Gerald (Marylee) Donnelly of Illinois and Desmond (Betty) Donnelly of Virginia; granddaughters, Jennifer and Stacy, both of Illinois, and Jane of Virginia; great-grandchildren, Sean of Illinois, Courtney and Emily of Virginia; and stepchildren, Gerald, Mark, Tom, Dan and Mary and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; and her sister, Irene.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Charlotte County American Cancer Society, 22107 Elmira Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.

Earl L. Goreck

Earl L. Goreck, 83, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2003.

Mr. Goreck was born Dec. 19, 1919, in Duquesne, Pa., and moved to this area in 1988 from Lake Wales, Fla. He was a retired machinist and a mason. He was a member of Elks in Lake Wales.

Survivors include his daughter, Jacqueline Homes of Harbor Heights, Fla.; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Mr. Goreck was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline; and sons, Gary Lee Goreck, Richard Homes and Godfrey "Jeff" Homes.

Private memorial services will be held by the family.

Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Goreck's memory to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309.

Richard T. Swindell

Richard Theodore Swindell, 76, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at his home.

He was born March 9, 1928, in Indianapolis, Ind., and was the son of schoolteachers Frank and Carmen Swindell.

Richard spent his childhood in the Midwest. He graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Ill., and began an extensive career in the automotive industry which included tasks from driving and building race cars to managing a fleet of trucks for Sears Roebuck and Co. His career extended to Sears Midwest Training School, teaching the craft that he loved. His expertise with engines included radio-controlled model plane engines. His association with Charlotte Radio Control Society brightened his retirement years.

Richard is survived by his wife, Nita, and her three devoted children, Karen Gustafson, Russell Cook and Sara Hudson; six children, Linda Rose Barley, Kathie Lyon, Trudy Smith, Jim Swindell, Karen Ortiz and Richard Scott Swindell; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several stepchildren and their children; one sister, Betty Lowrey; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jody Turner.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Robarts Funeral Home, 163 Brevard Ave., Arcadia, Fla. A celebration of Richard's life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to the donor's charity of choice.

Arrangements are by Robarts Funeral Home, Arcadia.

Angela M. Sterry

Angela Marianna Sterry, 81, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Monday, Aug. 9, 2004.

She was the daughter of Frederick and Anna (Dolce) Miceli, born Feb. 18, 1923, in Buffalo, N.Y.

She worked for the Royal Oak School System for 12 years before retiring. Fifteen years ago, Angela and her husband moved from Huntington Woods, Mich., to Punta Gorda. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osprey Investment Club, Emerald Point, Seminole Lakes Association, the Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge. Angela, or "Binny" as her family knows her, loved to cook, and enjoyed taking care of her family. She was also known for her China paintings.

Binny will be greatly missed by her husband of 61 years, Edward; daughter, Susan E. Griffitt of Manhattan, Kan.; son, Richard E. Sterry of Holderness, N.H.; sister, Beatrice Haskell of Sun City Center, Fla.; grandchildren, Kevin E and Karen E. Kemp and Nicholas and Anne Sterry; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, Punta Gorda, with the service in celebration of Binny's life following at 11 a.m. with Father Jan Antonik officiating. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 1330 W. Peachtree St. Atlanta, GA 30309. George O. Wootton

George Osborne Wootton, 93, of Placida, Fla., passed away Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at his Charlotte County residence. Lemon Bay Funeral Homes, Englewood Chapel, is in charge of cremation arrangements.

Mary E. Frazier

Mary Ester Frazier, 68, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, in Arcadia.

She was born Nov. 11, 1935, in Cortland, N.Y.

Mary moved from Cortland to Arcadia in 1968.

She is survived by one son, David (Shela) Frazier of Waterville, N.Y.; four daughters, Susan (Donald) Schiemer, Helen Frazier, both of Arcadia, Carol Rood of New Port Richey, Fla., and Janet (Steve) Allen of North Port, N.Y.; and one sister, Gertrude Davis of Utica, N.Y. She was preceded in death by one brother, John Ray Frazier.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at the Arcadia chapel of Robarts Funeral Home, 163 N. Brevard Ave., Arcadia. Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004.

Robarts Funeral Home, Arcadia, is in charge of arrangements.

Luetta R. Baker

Luetta R. Baker, 94, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Bon Secours-St. Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte.

She was born June 12, 1909, in Herkimer County, N.Y., and came to this area 51 years ago from Utica, N.Y. Mrs. Baker was a high school business teacher. She was a member of Republican Women of Charlotte County and First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte.

Survivors include her stepchildren, Terry, Donna, and Teddie; several nieces and nephews, including Jacqueline Girvan of New Hartford, N.Y., and Barbara Rebston of New Port Richey, Fla.; and several step-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Paul Schelm Funeral Home, 3044 Caring Way, Port Charlotte. A private burial will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte. Arrangements are by Paul Schelm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte.

Sheldon C. Stevens

Sheldon C. "Pappy" Stevens, 94, former resident of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port, Mo.

He was born Oct. 4, 1908, in Crawford County, Ind., to Isaiah P. and Ida E. Clifton Stevens. He was a retired security guard from the Pillsbury Co. in New Albany, Ind. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Punta Gorda.

He is survived by two sons, James E. Stevens of Punta Gorda and Edward R. Stevens of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a daughter, Thelma Jean Miles of Fairfax, Mo.; a brother, Stanley Stevens of Corydon, Ind.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Zelma F. Simon Stevens.

Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, with a funeral service at 2 p.m., at Swarens Funeral Home, Ramsey, Ind., followed by burial at Woods Chapel Cemetery in Ramsey. Arrangements are by Swarens Funeral Home, Ramsey.

James Ragan

James "Sandspur" Ragan, 77, of Sarasota, Fla., died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.

He was born June 16, 1926, in Thomasville, Ga. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He moved to Sarasota from Cairo, Ga., in 1949. He attended the Ringling School of Art from 1950 to 1953 and graduated from there. In 1981 he retired as a crew line foreman with Florida Power and Light Co. after 33 years in Sarasota. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sarasota.

He is survived by his daughter, Robin C. Stafford of Sarasota; two sons, Randy Ragan and John Ragan, both of Sarasota; two stepsons, Bill and Cecil Altman, both of Arcadia, Fla.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, in Colonial Chapel at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Sarasota. The burial will be private at Palms Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Epilepsy Foundation of Southwest Florida, 40 N. Osprey Ave. Suite A, Sarasota, FL 34236. Arrangements are by Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Sarasota.

Kathryn J. Daugherty

Kathryn J. Daugherty, 75, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Aug. 9, 2002.

She was born Nov. 2, 1926, in Johnstown, Pa., and moved to Port Charlotte 15 years ago from Williamsport, Pa. She was a retired housekeeper for Villa Sans Souci Retirement Community of Port Charlotte, member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church of Port Charlotte and a charter member of the Women's Memorial Foundation of Washington, D.C. She was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Navy.

She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca L. Daugherty of Delray Beach, Fla.; a son, Ronald E. Daugherty II of Port Charlotte; two sisters, Helen Dyna and Evelyn Schultz, both of Johnstown; a brother, Anthony Janidlo of Jacksonville, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald E. Daugherty; and a son, Christopher R. Daugherty.

A Memorial Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Aug. 24, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church. Further services will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania with inurnment in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville, Pa. Arrangements by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Charlotte Chapel.

Pauline M. Lenz

Pauline M. Lenz, 82, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Aug. 9, 2002, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.

She was born in Hawkeye, Iowa, on May 26, 1920, and came to this area 26 years ago from Flint, Mich. Mrs. Lenz was the former owner and operator of a beauty shop. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte and served as a sergeant in World War II in the Women's Army Corps.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur F. Lenz of Port Charlotte; two sons, David A. (Jill) Lenz of Oakhill, Va.; and Dennis F. (Suzanne) Lenz of Grand Blanc, Mich.; a sister, Marlene Graham of McHenry, Ill.; a brother, George E. Schmidt of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two grandsons, Jonathan and Matthew Lenz, both of Oakhill; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 12, at Paul Schelm Funeral Home in Port Charlotte. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Aug. 13, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte. Arrangements are by Paul Schelm Funeral Home in Port Charlotte.

John P. Swink

John P. Swink, 75, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Aug. 9, 2002, at IHS of Port Charlotte, Fla.

Born May 6, 1927, in Washington, D.C., he retired at an early age and moved to this area in July 1983 from Falls Church, Va. He was an endowment member of the National Rifle Association and member of the Deborah Hospital Foundation. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Margaret E. Swink; son, James Edward (Helen) Swink of Tampa, Fla.; three daughters, Betty Jean (Robert) Brett of Sarasota, Fla., Mary Louise (Lewis) Kimball of Fairfax, Va., and Joan Marie (Ronald) Wright of Punta Gorda; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 12, at Roberson Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 13, at Roberson Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel, followed by burial at Indian Springs Cemetery in Punta Gorda. Elder Robert S. Brett of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bradenton, Fla., and Howard Swink will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel.
