Marvette Howard Reese, 76, St. Augustine, died Sept. 7, 1997, at Flagler Hospital West. He was born in Grimes, Ala., and he had resided here for the past 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy, and he was a retired chief petty officer in the Navy. He was a member of McDowell Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Craig Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Warren Frederick, pastor of McDowell Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Reese, two sons, David and Wayne Reese, all of St. Augustine; two brothers, Julian Reese, Jacksonville, David Reese, Tallahassee; two sisters, Margie Hartman, Martha Riggs, both of Abilene, Texas; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Joshua Becker
Joshua Edward Becker, 17, Elkton, died Sept. 7, 1997, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Aiken, S.C., and he had resided here since 1988. He was a student at St. Augustine High School, and he was a member of the SAHS Wire Choir (electric guitar group), and enrolled in Guitar 2 at the school. He was also a member of 4-H and received the Outstanding Junior and Senior Boy Award. He was also a drummer with Prince Pele's Polynesian Revue. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Federal Point.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Episcopal Choir, with the Rev. Edwin E. ``Ted'' Griswold, rector, officiating. Burial will be in Aiken Memorial Cemetery, Aiken.
Friends may call at Craig chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Flowers are gratefully accepted, or those wishing may make a contribution, in his memory, to the St. Augustine High School Music Department, 3205 Varella Ave., St. Augustine, 32095.
Survivors include his parents, Michael and Barbara Aponte, Elkton; one sister, Kalani Aponte, a brother, Michael Aponte III, both of Elkton; paternal grandmother, Maria Aponte, Flagler Beach; and maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Becker, Pinellas Park.

Monroe Carver
Monroe Carver, 79, St. Augustine, died Sept. 6, 1997, at Flagler Hospital West. He was born in Unicoi, Tenn., and he had resided here for the past 35 years. He was retired from the U.S. Navy, and he was a member of American Legion Post No. 37.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
Flowers are gratefully declined, and those wishing may make a donation, in his memory, to American Legion Post No. 37, 1 Anderson Circle, St. Augustine, 32084.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Carver, St. Augustine; and a sister, Serina Hyatt.

Jack DePriest
Funeral services for Jack O. DePriest, 60, St. Augustine, who died Sept. 6, 1997, at his home, following a long illness, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Craig Funeral Home, with the Rev. Frank Northcutt officiating. Burial will be in St. Augustine Memorial Park. Friends may call at Craig chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Thelma Edson
Thelma "Fez" Fesmier Edson, 89, St. Augustine Shores, died Sept. 8, 1997, at the Ponce de Leon Care Center, following a brief illness. She was born in Pennsylvania, and she moved to Florida from Connecticut in 1971, when her husband retired. She was a 1929 graduate of the Jefferson Medical College School of Nursing.
Survivors include her husband, Reginald "Ed," whom she married in 1931; three daughters, Barbara Dell, West Virginia, Elizabeth Crawford, Georgia, Jean Perreault, Connecticut; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

R. Lynn Harris
Memorial services for R. Lynn Harris, 57, St. Augustine, who died Sept. 4, 1997, at University Hospital, Jacksonville, from injuries sustained in a Sept. 4 automobile accident in St. Augustine, will be held at 7 p.m. today at San Sebastian Catholic Church, with the Rev. Peter Colasurdo officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined, and those wishing may make a contribution, in his memory, to the St. Augustine Humane Society, 1665 Old Moultrie Road, St. Augustine, 32086.

Graveside services for Arthur O. Howard, 91, St. Augustine, who died Sept. 6, 1997, at Flagler Hospital East, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at San Lorenzo Cemetery, with Father Peter Colasurdo, pastor of San Sebastian Catholic Church, officiating.

Walter Nolen
Memorial services for Walter "Doug" Nolen, who died Sept. 6, 1997, will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Craig Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. S. Dwight S. Rose Rice
Rose Nussbaum Rice, 85, St. Augustine, died Sept. 8, 1997, at River Garden Hebrew Home, Jacksonville. She was born in Tarnapol, Austria, and she came to St. Augustine in 1928. She was the retired store manager of the St. Augustine Men's Shop, and she was a member of the First Congregation Sons of Israel.
Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the First Congregation Sons of Israel Cemetery, with Rabbi Samuel Cywiak officiating.
Survivors include two sons, Fredrick L. Rice, St. Augustine, Dr. Bernard F. Rice, Prairie Village, Kan.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Joshua Becker

Suzanne Fuchs
Suzanne Parker Fuchs, 28, Alpharetta, Ga., died Sept. 7, 1997, following a long battle with cancer. She was born in Mt. Kisco, N.Y., and she moved with her family to Jacksonville in 1975. She was a graduate of Terry Parker High School, and of the University of Central Florida, and she was employed in the hospitality industry.
Graveside services will be held at a later date in Winsted, Conn. Those wishing may make a contribution, in her memory, to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
Survivors include her parents, George and Judith Fuchs, St. Augustine; and a brother, Paul Christian Fuchs, attending graduate school in Madison, Wis.

Jesse Harris
Staff Sgt. Jesse L. Harris, U.S. Army, retired, 47, Palatka, died Sept. 7, 1997, at his home. He was born in St. Augustine, and he was a member of New St. James Baptist Church, St. Augustine. He retired from the U.S. Army, following 20 years of service, and he was a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge of Oklahoma. He was also a member of the Grand Lodge, F&AM, Oklahoma, and he received a number of military awards and citations. He was a 1968 graduate of Richard J. Murray High School.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at New St. James Baptist Church, with the Rev. Nathaniel Jackson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at Chase and Son Funeral Home chapel from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, and at the church from 2 p.m. Saturday until the hour of services.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Y. Harris, Palatka; his mother, Savannah Harris, St. Augustine; two daughters, Yolanda Harris, Angela Marie Harris, both of Palatka; two brothers, Johnnie L. Harris Jr., St. Augustine, Robert D. Harris, Colorado Springs, Col.; four sisters, Rutha Lee Holmes, Shirley Rose Pierce, both of St. Augustine, Geraldine Y. Robinson, Joann Harris, both of Palatka; and other relatives.

Henry D. Lee
Funeral services for Henry D. Lee, 78, St. Augustine, who died Sept. 6, 1997, at Flagler Hospital West, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with Bishop Zane Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

John Redding
John B. Redding, 60, 949 Puryear St., died Sept. 8, 1997, at Flagler Hospital East. He was born in Deanna, Ga., and he had resided here for the past 15 years. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired heavy equipment operator.
Survivors include his mother, Sarah Lee Harris, Jacksonville; four daughters, Sarah R. Beamon, Diane Redding, Johnnie Mae Wilson, LaKiueya Williams, all of Jacksonville; two sons, John Redding Jr., John L. Redding, both of Jacksonville; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Arrangements will be announced by Chase and Son Funeral Home.

James Roach
Funeral services for James D. Roach, 56, St. Augustine, who died Sept. 4, 1997, at his home after a brief illness, will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Croyle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lucy Norton, retired United Methodist minister, officiating.

Virginia Beattie
Virginia M. Beattie, 71, 245 Wildwood Road, died Sept. 10, 1997, at her home. She was born in Ogdensburg, N.Y., and she came to St. Augustine in 1980 from Warwick, N.Y.
Survivors include her husband, Jim; two daughters, Mary Jane Gustafson, Big Flat, Ore., JoAnn Beattie, Los Angeles, Calif.; seven sons, Mac, Maine, Jeff and Tom, Langley, Wash., Bill, Chicago, Stephen, Daytona Beach, Tolin, Denver, Colo., Michael, Middletown, N.Y.; one brother, Milo MacDougall, Ogdensburg; and 14 grandchildren.

Nancy Cothron
Nancy Marie Cothron, 74, St. Augustine, died Sept. 13, 1997, at her home. She was a native and lifelong resident of St. Augustine. She was a very active member of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine, where she was a member of the choir. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy, and she attended the University of Miami Conservatory and the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Md. She was a member of the Friendship Club and was a founding member of the St. Augustine Ballroom Dance Association.

She is survived by her husband, William; three daughters, Laverne Smith, Sequin, Texas, Mary Mills, St. Augustine, Christine Yatrousis, Miami; four sons, William Cothron Jr., Alvord, Texas, Joseph, James and Laurence Cothron, all of St. Augustine; sisters, Marion St. Petery and Laverne Alexander, St. Augustine; a brother, Matthew Powers; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Vernon Booth
Vernon Howard Booth, 64, St. Augustine, died Sept. 13, 1997, at Flagler Hospital East. He had lived in St. Augustine most of his life. He co-owned and operated Townet Press. He was a veteran of the Korean Era, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Moultrie Baptist Church and Elks Lodge #829.
