Helen McQuaig, 85, Mobile, Ala., died June 6, 1998, in Mobile. She was born in St. Augustine, and she was a longtime member of Trinity Chapel Ministries.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Craig Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Stephen Croley, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church, Orlando, officiating. Burial will be in St. Augustine Memorial Park. Friends may call at Craig chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Survivors include four daughters, Jeanette Nettles, Intercession, Fla., Joan Croley, Regina Lane, Marty McQuaig, all of Mobile; one son, Richard McQuaig, Sylvania, Ga.; three sisters, Erma Thomas, Elmo Higdon, both of St. Augustine, Willie Mae Allen, Hilliard; two brothers, the Rev. Woodrow Thomas, Margate, the Rev. Ira Thomas, Lake City; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Herbert Ranzy
Herbert L. Ranzy, 68, 904 Chippewa St., formerly of Queens, N.Y., died June 6, 1998, at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Jacksonville. He had resided in St. Augustine since 1996, and he attended St. Paul AME Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Canaan Baptist Church of Christ, 132 W. 116th St., New York City, with the Rev. Dr. Wyatt Tee Walker, senior pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, L.I., N.Y., with the Henry W. Payne Funeral Parlor, 273 Lenox Ave., New York City, in charge.
Friends may call at Chase and Son Funeral Home, St. Augustine, from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Survivors include his guardians, Thomas and Edwidge Bryant III, Thomas and Jacqueline Bryant Jr., St. Augustine; two aunts, Evelyn Culbert, New York City, Fanny Ramsay, Philadelphia, Pa.; and other relatives.
Chase and Son Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Minnie Staley
Minnie Belle Staley, 70, 146 Twine St., died June 6, 1998, at her home. She was born in Aiken, S.C., and she had resided here since early childhood.
Arrangements will be announced by Chase and Son Funeral Home.

Kathryn Ward
Kathryn Cannon Ward, 91, Palatka, died June 6, 1998, at Putnam Community Medical Center, Palatka, following a brief illness. She was born Aug. 31, 1906, in Miami, and she had been a resident of Putnam County off and on since 1911. She was the wife of the late Lynn A. Ward, and they owned and operated Ward's Store in Spuds for many years. She moved back to Palatka in 1967.
Mrs. Ward was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Palatka, where she served as treasurer for many years. She was past president of the Baptist Women's Missionary Society for the Florida Baptist Conference, and she was also past worthy matron of the Hastings Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She was president of the Hastings Garden Club and well known for her beautiful gardens. She was also Miss Palatka in 1934.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Palatka, with Pastor Jamie Litchfield and Brother Dannie Williams officiating. Burial will be in Palatka Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home, Palatka, from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Flowers are gratefully accepted, or those wishing may make a contribution, in her memory, to a favorite charity.
Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her parents, William A. ``Bill'' and Mollie Cannon, her sister, Marie C. Beach, and brother, William A. Cannon Jr.
She is survived by three sisters, Minnie E. Miller, Longwood, Rosalie E. Nolan, Jacksonville, Alta Holliman Smith, Palatka; and other relatives, including 50 nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Jesse Grant III
Jesse James Grant III, 83, St. Augustine, died June 3, 1998, in Flagler Hospital West. He was born in Gallatin, Pa., and he had resided here since 1980. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy, and he was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Those wishing may make a contribution, in his memory, to Grace United Methodist Church, 8 Carrera St., St. Augustine, 32084.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Curtis Norton, pastor, officiating. Burial was in St. Augustine Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; one son, Jesse James Grant IV, St. Augustine; two grandsons, Jesse James Grant V and Gavin Mark Grant, a great-granddaughter, Lydia Grant; two sisters, Dorothea Mae Compton, Ruth Young.

Mildred Pratt
Mildred Crowder Pratt, 69, St. Augustine, died June 6, 1998, at Flagler Hospital East. She was born in Roanoke, Va., and she had resided here since 1991. She was a retired Registered Nurse, and she was a member of the American Nursing Association. She was also a volunteer with the SWING Project, and she was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. S. Dwight McQueen, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Roanoke, in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Craig Funeral Home chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Survivors include her daughter, Kimberly Anne Buckler and her husband, Andrew T. Buckler III, Waldorf, Md.; her son, Michael Allen Pratt, Manassas, Va.; one sister, Eloise C. Perdue, Roanoke; two grandsons, David Andrew and Benjamin Daniel Buckler; a son in heart, James P. Rice and his wife, Helen, Kingston, Tenn.; a daughter in heart, Deborah Rice, Toronto, Canada; and a lifelong friend, Donald G. Sutphin, Jacksonville.

Arthur Floyd
Arthur Floyd, 73, 508 Christopher St., died June 6, 1998, in Flagler Hospital West. He was born in Picolata, and he was a lifelong resident of St. Johns County. He was a former member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Picolata, and he was a former president of the choir. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 194, and he was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tabernacle Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronald Stafford, pastor of St. Luke AME Church, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Chase and Son Funeral Home chapel from 5 to 9 p.m. today.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara and Vickie; his guardian niece, Thelma Stevens; several other nieces and nephews including Deacon William Floyd; and other relatives.

Fred Hof
Fred G. Hof, 78, a former St. Augustine resident, died June 5, 1998, at the Hospice of Arlington, Va. He was a retired aerospace materials engineer. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., he served as a U.S. Army surgical technician in Burma during World War II and graduated from Long Island University with a B.S. degree in chemistry in 1948. From then until his retirement in 1985, he worked as an aerospace materials engineer for Sperry Gyroscope and later Grumman Aerospace in the Long Island, N.Y., facility. Among the projects for which he played a key role were the Lunar Landing Module, the Orbiting Astronomical Observatory and the Hubble telescope. His name is among those memorialized on a plaque left by astronauts on the surface of the moon in connection with the Lunar Landing Module.
After his retirement, he and his wife moved to St. Augustine where he became a Fourth Degree Knight, Knights of Columbus, and served as a volunteer math and science teacher in an elementary school here. He and his wife moved to Centreville, Va., from St. Augustine in 1996.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, 13807 Poplar Tree Road, Chantilly, Va. Burial will be July 1 at 2 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of NOVA, 6400 Arlington Blvd., No. 1000, Falls Church, Va. 22042.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Alice M. Hof; four children, Fred C. Hof, Silver Spring, Md., Gerald J. Hof, Springfield, Va., Kenneth P. Hof, Eugene, Ore., Lisa L. Gould, East Quogue, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.
Everly Funeral Home, Fairfax, Va., is in charge.

Ana Ochoa
Ana Maria Ochoa, 86, St. Augustine, died June 8, 1998, at Mariner Health Care. She was born in Majari, Cuba, and she had resided here since 1965. She was of the Catholic faith.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Memorial Park. Friends may call at Craig Funeral Home chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
Survivors include two daughters, Erma Pacetti, St. Augustine, Ana Lord, Nassau, The Bahamas; one brother, Mario Goitia, St. Augustine; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Patrick O'Steen Sr.
Patrick Henry O'Steen Sr., 66, St. Augustine, died June 7, 1998, at Flagler Hospital West. He was born in Hallsville, Texas, and he had resided here for the past 12 years. He was retired from the U.S. Army, where he served as a criminal investigator in Intelligence. He was a veteran of both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Following military retirement, he became a jeweler, and owned his own store in Ozark, Ala., Shamrock Jewelry, for over 20 years. He was of the Baptist faith.
Private services are planned.
Survivors include one daughter, Janice Freidhof, Colorado Springs, Colo.; four sons, James M. O'Steen, Patrick H. O'Steen Jr., both of Ozark, David A. O'Steen, Atlanta, Ga., Mark S. O'Steen, Fort Bragg, N.C.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Craig Funeral Home is in charge.

Scott Watkins
Scott Allan Watkins, 46, St. Augustine, died June 7, 1998, at his home. He was a lifelong resident of St. Augustine, and he had worked as a draftsman for Reynolds, Smith and Hill and also for Barbara Coleman Company, both in Jacksonville.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. S. Dwight McQueen, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Survivors include his mother, Kathryn Watkins; three brothers, Robert, Harry and Kendall Watkins, all of St. Augustine.

Belle Brown
Belle Jackson Brown, 84, 706 Hensley St., Hastings, died June 3, 1998, at Putnam Community Hospital, Palatka. She was a native of Madison, but she had resided in Hastings since 1939. She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church, and served on the deaconess board and junior choir. She was a former member of the Heroines of Jericho and the Order of Eastern Star.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gethsemane Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeremiah Steward, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Hastings. Friends may call at the church from 5 to 8 p.m. today, and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the hour of services.
Survivors include three sons, Marion Brown Jr., Lorenzo Brown Sr., James Brown Sr., all of Hastings; a sister, Clara Carter, Hartford, Conn.; three daughters-in-law, Joyce Brown, Hastings, Patricia Brown, Fayetteville, N.C., Elaine Brown, Jacksonville; several nieces including a devoted niece, Glovene Ferguson, Palatka; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Chase and Son Funeral Home is in charge.

Frank Jansson
Frank R. Jansson, 72, St. Augustine, a guiding force in Habitat for Humanity in St. Johns County, died June 3, 1998, in Northfield, N.J., at the home of his daughter.
He was born in Woodbury, N.J., and he was a a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He was a graduate of Glassboro State College and the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his master's degree, and he completed his doctoral work short of his dissertation at the University of Pennsylvania. He retired in 1985, after 37 years serving the educational communities in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He was a former superintendent of several schools, was dean of instruction and professor at Glassboro State College, and he retired as associate director of Education Improvement Resource Center at Sewell.
He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, past president of the St. Augustine/St. Johns County Habitat for Humanity, board of trustees emeritus of the Ocean City Tabernacle, member of the Masonic Lodge No. 85, Glassboro; Lions Club of Perkasie, Pa., and Ocean City, and an active member and board member of Grace United Methodist Church, St. Augustine.
Funeral services were held in New Jersey.
Those wishing may make a contribution, in his memory, to St. Augustine/St. Johns County Habitat for Humanity, POB 1467, St. Augustine, 32085.
Survivors include his wife, Jane S., St. Augustine; three daughters, Dolores H. Jansson, Northfield, Diane J. McGrath, Mullica Township, Priscilla J. Causey, Salisbury, N.C.; three sons, Eric L. Jansson, Atlanta, Ga., Frank Robert Jansson, Ocean City, N.J., Peter Mark Jansson, Tuckerton, N.J.; and nine grandchildren.

William Player Jr.
Memorial services for William A. Player Jr., 72, St. Augustine, who died June 2, 1998, at his home, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Craig Funeral Home, with the Rev. S. Dwight McQueen, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Thelma Klipstine
Thelma Klipstine, 94, St. Augustine, died June 9, 1998, at the Ponce de Leon Care Center. She was born in Crandall, and she had resided in St. Augustine most of her life. She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Craig Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Patrick Carroll, pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in Our Lady of Good Counsel Cemetery. Friends may call at Craig chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
Mrs. Klipstine was preceded in death by a daughter, Jewell Oliver, and a son, Leo Klipstine.
Survivors include a daughter, Jackie Simmons, St. Augustine; one son, Kelly Klipstein, cq East Palatka; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

James McGrath
James Michael McGrath, 60, St. Augustine, died June 10, 1998, at Mariner Health Care Center. He was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., and he served in the U.S. Army and was director of security for 11 years for the Ocean and Racquet Club, St. Augustine Beach. He had resided in St. Augustine since 1984, and he was of the Catholic faith.
Private services are planned. Flowers are gratefully declined, and those wishing may make a donation, in his memory, to Hospice Northeast, 1400 Old Dixie Hwy., Suite A, St. Augustine, 32086.
Survivors include his mother, Abbie L. McGrath, Hermitage, Tenn.; two daughters, Kimberly Jo Leippert, Orlando, Michael Ann Bradley, Moore, Okla.; a sister, Mary English, Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; and six grandchildren.
