ALBANY - The funeral service of James E. (Elvin) Benford, 88, of 602 Gable Road, Leesburg, who died Thursday, October 17, 2002, will be conducted today at 11 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. James Ramsey will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens.
A native of Macon County, GA, Mr. Benford had lived in the Albany area for the past 38 years, moving from DeLand, FL. Mr. Benford was a WW II Army veteran. A member of First Baptist Church of Albany, American Legion Post #30, VFW Post #2785, Senior Friends at Palmyra Medical Centers and Golden Key at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Benford of Leesburg; three sons and their wives, Bo and Caroline Benford of Albany and Bo Bo and Lisa Lewis of Jacksonville, FL, Nick and Marsha Lewis of Allen, Texas; two daughters, Connie Laymon and her husband, Marty of Palatka, FL, and Sylvia Lewis Knight of Leesburg, GA; a brother, Herbert F. Benford and wife, Marcia of Sylvester, GA; two sisters, Jewel Arrington of Cobb, GA, and Ruby Bullard Gagnor of Naples, FL; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

ALBANY - Dorothy (Dottie) Caron, 78, of Albany died Thursday, October 17, 2002, at Palmyra Medical Centers.
The funeral service will be held Monday, 11 A.M. at Kimbrell-Stern. The Rev. Finbarr Stanton will officiate.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and longtime resident of Miami, FL, Mrs. Caron had lived in Albany since 1984 and was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Caron.
Survivors include her three daughters, Ronnie Pettit of Gautier, MS, Carol Crisante and her husband, Joe of Jacksonville, FL, Teddie Rodriguez and her husband, Pedro of Albany; two sons, Michael Edward Donaghue and George Dennis Donaghue; seven grandchildren, Deborah Gallaher, Rob Rodriguez and his wife, Katrina, Brian Rodriguez, Christina Armstrong, Michael T. Crisante, Joseph Crisante and Gina Crisante; seven great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Melanie, Kimberly, Anna, Joseph, Megan and Brooke; six great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern Sunday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will be staying at the residence of Pedro and Teddie Rodriguez, 1703 Sharon Avenue.

ALBANY - Fannie Green, 86, of 1904 Palmyra Road, died Saturday, October 12, 2002, at Palmyra Nursing Home.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ with interment in Union Memorial Cemetery. Elder Roosevelt Goodson Jr. will officiate.
A native of Dougherty County, Ms. Green was a homemaker. She attended the public schools of Dougherty County and was a member of Greater Zion Tabernacle Apostolic Church Inc. where Bishop Harold E. Sawyer Sr. is the pastor.
Survivors include two sisters, Lexie Smith and Irene Covin of Albany; three nieces, Shirley Gills of West Palm Beach, Fla., Ethel Ray Green and Alexie Parks of Albany; four nephews, Ervin Covin, James Covin, all of Albany, and Michael Covin of Atlanta and John Covin of Albany.

ALBANY - Eunice Stone Morgan, 82, died Friday, October 18, 2002, at Dawson Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral service 3 P.M. Monday at Oakview Cemetery. The Rev. Dale Thornton officiating.
A native of Waco, GA, Mrs. Morgan was a retired bookkeeper with WALB Television Station. She was a member of Avalon United Methodist Church and the Golden Key Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Joy Murrey of Lee County; three sisters, Frances Morgan of Albany, Reba Jackson of Dallas, GA, Maxine Abercrombie of Carrollton, GA; one brother, W.L. Stone of Douglasville, GA; two grandchildren, Kelly and Brent Murrey of Lee County.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Murrey, 115 Sportsman Club Road, Leesburg, GA and on Sunday from 2 P.M. until 4 P.M. at Kimbrell-Stern.

Elbert Tillman
ALBANY - Elbert Tillman, 83, of Albany, GA, and Destin, FL, passed away in Destin Thursday, October 17, 2002.
Mr. Tillman was born on February 17, 1919, in Colquitt County, GA, to Josh and Hattie Tillman. He was a native of Albany from 1952 until 1997, and was the owner of Tillman Builders in Albany until his retirement. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving with Seabees that were attached to the Marines on Guadalcanal in the South Pacific.
Mr. Tillman was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Lee Frances Tillman and grandson, Conrad McGuire.
Survivors include his five daughters and their husbands, Sylvia and Bill Vickers of Destin, FL, Sonya and Larry Gooden of Albany, Sherry and Earl Ward of Albany, Carla and Robert Rachals of Destin, FL, Jana and Rad McGuire of Mobile, AL; his four granddaughters, Cara Rachals, Micah McGuire, Joanna Prater, Jamye and husband John Wars and his sister, Cora Norman of Moultrie.
Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at China Grove Baptist Church in Moultrie where Mr. Tillman was a member. The Rev. Ricky Grinner of Moultrie and the Rev. Steve Davies of Destin will be officiating with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

ALBANY - Ginger Lee Turner, 51, of Stockbridge, GA, died Thursday evening October 17, 2002, as a result of a heart attack at Henry County Medical Center in Stockbridge.
The funeral service will be today, 5 P.M. at Floral Memory Gardens. Dr. C. Michael Gravette and the Rev. Ray Bowman will officiate.
She was an Albany native and had lived in Stockbridge for the past 4 years. She was a member of Assembly of God Faith and was a 1969 graduate of Albany High School. She worked most of her life as a nurse's aid for Home Health Services caring for elderly and sick. She was truly most happy when she could be outside among nature or fishing.
Survivors include her husband, Roland T. Turner of Stockbridge; two sons, Joseph M. Turner and Lee T. Turner, both of Stockbridge; parents, Robert E. and Joyce Lee of Albany; sister and brother-in-law, Jeannie Lee and Colquitt Odom Jr. of Bay Springs, MS; brother, Monte C. Lee of Leesburg; nephew, Colquitt H. Odom III of Nashville, TN; niece, Rachael Lee Gresham of Atlanta.

Born on July 6, 1935 in Early County, Mr. Williams was a retired truck driver and attended public schools in Dougherty County. He was a member of New Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Ricardo (Dorothy) Ellis of Albany; a granddaughter, Tonya Riggins and a great-grandson, Tayon Riggins, both of Albany; four brothers, A.J. (Clara) Williams, Ralph (Betty) Williams, Murray (Minnie) Williams, all of Albany, and Robert Williams of Trenton, NJ; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

MARIANNA, FL - James Roy McCormick, 80, of Marianna, FL, passed away Friday morning, October 18, 2002 in the Jackson Hospital in Marianna.
Mr. McCormick was a native and life long resident of Jackson County, FL, and was a farmer.
Survivors include a son, Harry Laramore of Panama City, FL; a daughter, Mary Lou Branch of Sale City, GA; two brothers, Wilmer McCormick and William "Pete" McCormick, both of Marianna; two sisters, Corene Jackson and Catherine Blasi, both of Marianna; and four grandchildren, Rebecca Branch of Sale City, Debbie Elkins of Doerun, Randy Hatcher of Liveoak, FL, and Roy Laramore of Panama City.
Funeral services will be held today, (Sunday) 2 p.m. CST from the graveside of Lipford Cemetery near Marianna. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services on Sunday.

CORDELE - Anna Elizabeth "Youngblood" Moore, 68, of Cordele, died Friday, October 18, 2002 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Mrs. Moore was born on October 17, 1936 in Georgia to the late Eugene Lem and Mary Lena Burnam Youngblood. She was retired from Orkin as an office manager, and attended Third Street Baptist Church in Cordele.
Services will be held at Chapel of Rainey Funeral Services on Monday, 11 a.m., with burial following service at Lakeview Memory Gardens, in Phenix City, AL, at 4 p.m. following the service.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Leger-Boike of Cordele, Maria (Leger) Coslett of Port Saint Lucie, FL; a son, Charles Leger of Winston Salem, NC; a stepson, Bill Moore of Beavercreek, OH; three stepdaughters, Barbie (Moore) Gibbs of Murray, KY, Jackie (Moore) Cortez of Castro Valley, CA, and Jeanne (Moore) Forti of Elizabeth, NJ; a sister, Helen (Stephens) Jones of Fort Worth, TX; a niece, Kathy Phillips of McDonough, GA; and a nephew, David Pollock of Hartselle, AL.

Mr. Pate was born September 4, 1922 in Turner County, GA, son of the late James Benjamin Pate and the late Annie Lee Prine. Mr. Pate retired from the Seaboard Coastline Rail Road, was an active volunteer with Magnolia Manor, Sumter Regional Hospital, Perfect Care and Crane Nursing Center in Cordele. He was an Army veteran and active member of the First Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Belle Pate of Americus; three daughters and sons-in-law, Joy and Jerry Shellhouse of Ringgold, GA, Sue and Roy Bridges of Columbus, and Ann and Eddie Landers of Americus; one sister, Ruth Odom of Arabi; one brother, Carson Pate of Thomasville; and six grandchildren, Travis Bridges, Laura Bridges, Crystal Bridges, Kevin Landers, James Landers and Grace Landers.
