Chester Shelby Gorman
BYRON, GA - Chester Shelby Gorman, 82, of Byron, formerly of Macon, died Saturday, October 19, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Gorman was born in Vilonia, AR, on September 26, 1920. He lived there until moving to Macon in 1947. He was the son of John S. and Nora K. Gorman. Mr. Gorman was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Thelma Hopper Gorman. He was retired from Armstrong Cork Co.
Survivors include his second wife, Mae Barber Gorman of Byron; four children and their spouses, Janis Gorman Ball (Bruce) of Macon, Barbara Gorman Brantley (Joe) and David Gorman (Donna), all of Warner Robins, and Diann Gorman Wright (John) of Leesburg; and eight grandchildren, Keith Brantley, Teresa Davis, Tambra Singletary, Kevin Ball, Anissa Stocking, Kimberly Davis, Mandy Gorman and Dustin Gorman; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Merlene Waid of Milledgeville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. at Rooks Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Macon. Family will receive friends today (Monday) from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

GREENSBORO, NC - Anna Mae Fleming, 95, of Greensboro, NC, (formerly of Camilla) died Saturday, October 19, 2002 at Maryfield Nursing Center in Greensboro, NC.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Camilla, with burial in Oakview Cemetery.
Born October 13, 1907 in Thomas County, Mrs. Fleming was a retired teacher. She was married to the late William James Fleming and was the daughter of the late Paul James and Lola Smith McCollum.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Courts of Greensboro, NC; and a son, William James Fleming Jr. of Brevard, NC.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. today (Monday) at the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 57 E. Broad St., Camilla.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home, with burial in Patmos Church Cemetery. The Rev. Michael Fox will officiate.
Born July 14, 1919 in Bibb County, Mrs. Hay was a homemaker and a member of Milford Baptist Church. She was married to the late Almer T. Hay and was the daughter of the late Omar and Effie Brown Bailey.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia and Hubert Campbell of Newton and Deborah and Bruce Varnum of Leary; a son and daughter-in-law, A. Wallace and Jacque Hay of Leary; two brothers, Marvin Z. Bailey Sr. of Orlando, FL, and Arbut William Bailey of Macon; eight grandchildren, Darlene Cave of Albany, Chloe Rentz of Leary, Marve McDaniel of Newton, Naomi Reber of Leesburg, Angie Bowers of Atlanta, Wallace Hay of Leary, Maria Rish of Arlington, and Ryan Varnum of Leary; 12 great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Jessie Phillips of Newton.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. today (Monday) at the funeral home.

TIFTON - Grace Fletcher Jones, 88, of Tifton, died Saturday, October 19, 2002 at Tift Health Care Center in Tifton.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 4 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula, with burial in the church cemetery. The Revs. Larry Layfield, Mark Sickling and Kenneth Kicklighter will officiate.
Pallbearers are Howard DuVall, Donald Jones, Wilt Jones, Johnny Lindsey, Dr. Jay Phillips, Jonathan Ross, Leroy Saylor and Alex Sumner; and Honorary pallbearers are Lowell Beard, Lynwood Denham, Marlin Easters, Carl Goodwin, Hullen Jones, Larry Jones, Danny Phelps, Gerald Whiddon, Jack Jones, and Melvin Bryan.
Born July 4, 1914, in Tift County, Mrs. Jones was the daughter of the late John Y. Fletcher and Maggie King Fletcher. She was a homemaker and widow of W. Grady Jones, who died in 1994. She was also a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Winfred and Ann Jones and Wilton and Judy Jones, all of Tifton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Montine and Dick Skeel of Tucker, Audrey and Harold Beard and Bonnie and Buddy Lindsey, all of Tifton; and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her husband, three children, five brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be held today (Monday) from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

DAWSON - Milton Wayne Moore died on Saturday, October 19, 2002 in Clay County, GA. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the Dawson United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Richard Soper and James Sapp officiating.
Mr. Moore was a native of Elbert County, born July 16, 1948, son of Milton Moore and Mildred McCannon Moore. He had been a resident of the Graves Community in Terrell County for the past six months.
He had served in the U.S. Marines as a traffic controller for seven years and also served in the U.S. Army for five years. He was employed as project manager at Buc-Don in Oxford.
He is survived by his wife, Mavis Lark Moore of Dawson; a son, Robert Moore of Moody, AL; a daughter, Anita Moore Wooden of Milledgeville; his parents, Milton and Mildred Moore of Milledgeville; mother-in-law, Jean Weston Lark of Dawson; a brother, Denny Moore of Smyrna; and five grandchildren, Kevin and Haley Meeks and Taylor Wooden, all of Milledgeville, Alexis and Kayla Moore of Moody, AL.

ALBANY - The funeral service of Nell P. Cook, 74, of 3505 Oliver Drive, who died Friday, October 11, 2002, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert E. Varnadore, the Rev. Joe Williams, the Rev. Bob Prince, the Rev. Jerry Etheredge and Willie Cook will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
A native of Dale County, AL, Mrs. Cook had resided in Albany since 1936. She was retired from the City of Albany with the Probate Court. She was the widow of Roy Mitchell Cook, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Crepe Myrtle Chapter #163, the Bob Prince Sunday School Class and Harvest Temple Church of God.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Roy E. Cook and Linda Cook of Leary, Ronnie Cook and Susan Cook of Doerun, and Robert W. Cook and Theresa Cook of Albany; three sisters, Myrtice Creel of Albany, Earldean Mercer of Zenia, Ohio, and Sheila Pounders of Birmingham, AL; 11 grandchildren, Camie Bence, Rhonda Reilly, Russell Cook, Roger Cook, Maria Hunter, Amanda Milner, Kim White, Kelly White, Mike Watson and Shonna Watson and 17 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

A native of Worth County, Mr. Hufstetler had lived in the county most of his life. He was employed with Tifton Steel. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam war. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of Poulan Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include his wife, Della Latimer Hufstetler of Ty Ty; a son, David P. and (Karen) Hufstetler of Moultrie; daughter, Christine and (David) Morris of Moultrie; parents, Sylvan and Reba Hufstetler of Ty Ty; two brothers, Carson Melvin Hufstetler of Sylvester and Richard Petit of Atlanta; three sisters, Priscilla St. John of Eldorado, GA, Virginia Hawkins of Albany, and Malbajean Day of Chula; and nine grandchildren.

ALBANY - Ernest Lee "Skip" Racener, 80, of Albany passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2002, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Hall & Hall Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery in Waycross, GA.
Mr. Racener was a native of St. Louis, Mo., and had lived in Albany since 1976. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Air Corp and the U.S. Air Force. He was a former P.O.W. and was retired from Civil Service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover C. and Grace Petty Racener and his wife, Ruth E. Wade Racener.

Active pallbearers will be James W. Palmer Jr., W.D. Palmer III, Daniel J. Baker III, William Palmer Baker, Michael Benjamin Palmer and Joseph Howard Palmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Edgar T. Davis Jr. Sunday School Class, and all past and present employees of Bank of Camilla.
A native of Camilla, Mitchell County, Mrs. Clark was born February 7, 1926. Her parents were the late W.D. Palmer Sr. and Julia spence Palmer. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Caroline P. Hurst, Vivian P. Williford, and Grace P. Youmans, and three brothers, James Wiley Palmer Sr., W.O. (Buster) Palmer, and Joseph Howard Palmer Sr. She retired after 35 years as head bookkeeper for Bank of Camilla. She served in the nursery at First Baptist Church of Camilla for 16 years; was a member of Edgar T. Davis Jr. Sunday School Class, Golden Key Club, Rural Electric Leaders of Mitchell EMC, and was a member of Farm Bureau's Women's Committee. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Camilla.
Survivors include her husband, James O. "Jimmy" Clark of Camilla; daughter, Becky Clark of Camilla; sister, Florence Baker of Sale City; two brothers, W.D. Palmer Jr. and Frank Palmer, both of Camilla; and a number of nieces and nephews.

CAMILLA - James Lamar (K.O.) Hudgins, 78, of Patmos Community, died Saturday, October 12, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Milford Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Morgan-Hudgins Cemetery. The Rev. Joel Hudgins and the Rev. Michael Fox will officiate.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be the deacons and Adult Men's Sunday School Class of Milford Missionary Baptist Church.
Born August 23, 1924, in Baker County, Mr. Hudgins was a member of the Milford Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was Sunday School Superintendent for 12 years. He was a retired diesel mechanic and US Navy veteran who served on a P.T. boat in World War II. Mr. Hudgins was the son of the late Joel Olen and Corrie Rizer Hudgins.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Griffin Hudgins of Patmos; son, Lamar Hudgins and his wife, Wanda, of Albany; daughter, Lynn Sindersine and her husband, O.C., of Albany; son, Hardy Hudgins and his wife, Susan, of Patmos; a brother, Nelson Hudgins of Patmos; two sisters, Catherlyn Thompson of Albany and Iva McFather of Milford; seven grandchildren, Libby Hudgins Reale, James Hudgins III, Oliver Sindersine, Justin Sindersine, Andrew Sindersine, Mandy Hudgins and Rex Hudgins; four great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. 8 p.m. today at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home.

AMERICUS - Marion C. Wall, 94, a well-known Americus resident of 2003 Rose Avenue, died late Friday evening, October 11, 2002, at Sumter Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Lee Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brooks Partain and Dr. James Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in the Ellaville Cemetery. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.
A native of Schley County, Mr. Wall was born September 12, 1908, the son of the late John Robert Wall and Minnie Caskey Wall. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ermine Stevens Wall. He was a member of the Lee Street United Methodist Church and served as chairman of the board, and was Sunday School superintendent for 13 years.
Mr. Wall was active in civic affairs in Americus. He was a former city councilman, former member of the Civitan Club, a member of M.B. Council Lodge No. 95, Free and Accepted Masons, and a member of Demolay Commandery No. 5. He was a member of the Saliba-McDaniel Council No. 34, and was a Shriner.
He was a co-owner of Sumter Milling Company, and later of McCleskey Mills, serving in the capacity of president and general manager for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary P. Wall of Americus; a daughter and son-in-law, Marion and M.M. "Puzz" James of Americus; a son and daughter-in-law, John Robert "Bob" Wall and Norma Wall of Americus; a stepson and step daughter-in-law, Gary W. Popwell and Lynda Popwell of Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, J.R. and Debbie Wall of Americus, Scott Wall of Springwood, VA, Loraine and Roger Thigpen of Bainbridge, Steve and Debra James of DeSoto, Virginia and Al Draper of Annandale, VA; a step grandson and step grand-daughter-in-law, Gary W. Popwell Jr. and Rebecca Popwell of Columbia, SC, a step granddaughter and step grandson-in-law, Lisa Ralston and Jack Ralston of Newport Beach, VA; five great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
