The funeral was Monday at Smith Grove M.B. Church of Amsterdam, GA, with interment in Conyers Cemetery.

Lewis Vickers King
NASHVILLE - Lewis Vickers King, 94, of Nashville, died Sunday, December 15, 2002, at his residence.
The funeral was Tuesday at Flat Creek Baptist Church with interment in Flat Creek Cemetery. The Rev. Mickey Lindsey officiated.
A native of Berrien County, Mr. King was born August 30, 1908. His parents were the late Simmie King and Minnie McMillan. He was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church and served as Chairman of the Berrien County DEFACS Board for over 60 years. He was a former deacon of First Baptist Church and was a very faithful and humble man.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Watson King of Nashville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Wendell Nix of Bainbridge and Janice and Paul Howze of Springfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Geraldine King of Nashville; two sisters, Alma Connell of Nashville and Thelma Davis of Tifton; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

SYLVESTER - Robert Carroll, 73, of 2336 Ga. Hwy. 112 South, Sylvester, died Wednesday, December 18, 2002, at his residence.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Banks Funeral Home with interment in Hillcrest Cemetery.
A native of Tift County, Mr. Carroll was born December 19, 1928. He had lived in Worth County all of his life and was a truck driver. He was a member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church. His parents were the late Milledge Lee Carroll and Exie Heath Carroll.
Survivors include his wife, Kay F. Peeples Carroll of Sylvester; two daughters, Jerri (Tommy) Pate, and Patti (Gene) Huggins, all of Sylvester; a son, Robert Allen (Mary) Carroll of Brewton, AL; four brothers, Charles Carroll of Poulan, Jimmy Carroll of Hickory, NC, David Carroll and Austin Carroll, both of Sylvester; two sisters, Betty James and Mary Ann Moody, both of Sylvester; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

ALBANY - The funeral service of Ethel Elizabeth Coston, 77, of 1399 Hwy. 19 South, Leesburg, who died Monday, December 16, 2002, will be conducted today at 11 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Ken Chancellor will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
A native of Colquitt County, GA, Mrs. Coston had resided in the Albany and Leesburg area since 1950. Mrs. Coston was a bookkeeper for Coats and Clark and retired after thirty two years. She was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church and the Rose Moore Sunday School Class. Mrs. Coston was preceded in death by a son, Carl Cox, who died in 1977.
Survivors include two sons, William (Snooky) Cox of Salem, Oregon, and Thomas (Tom) E. Cox of Albany, GA; a daughter, Doris Ryan of Apollo Beach, FL; sisters, Nita Hermatz of Daytona Beach, FL, and Lucille Seay of Manhattan, KS, Montine Thomas of Lake Butler, FL, Ruthie Murphy of Lakeland, FL, Cynthia Holt of Tampa, FL, and Nancy Ethredge of Sylvester, GA; brothers, Ira Clark of Lucedale, MS, Hubert Clark of Bradenton, FL, and Glenn Clark of Arcadia, FL; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation Membership Department, 1314 Spring Street N.W., Atlanta, GA 30309.

A private funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. Dudley Lippitt will officiate.
Survivors include a son, Hollis Lanier Jr. of Albany; daughter, Ginger Lanier of Albany; two grandchildren, Hollis Lanier III and Caroline Lanier, both of Albany.

CUTHBERT - Virginia McHan Shellhouse, 79, of Cuthbert died Wednesday, December 18, 2002, at Joe-Anne Burgin Nursing Home in Cuthbert. The funeral services will be announced later.
Mrs. Shellhouse was born June 12, 1923, in Randolph County daughter of the late William Henry McHan and Josie Todd McHan. She was retired from Kellwood Company, was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was married to the late Hubert L. Shellhouse.
Survivors include four sons, William Wesley Shellhouse and his wife Ruby, Marvin Hubert Shellhouse and his wife Patricia, Charles Ladon Shellhouse and Richard David Shellhouse, all of Cuthbert; five daughters, Betty Louise Marshall and her husband Carl of Eufaula, AL, Sara Hayes and her husband Jimmy of Leesburg, Clara Kingsmill and her husband Darrell of Erin, TN, Josie Palmer and her husband Charlie of Hephzibah and Nell Tomblin and her husband John of Shellman; a sister, Sadie Bryant of Bronwood; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends today from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert Allen Hughes Sr.
CAMILLA - Robert Allen "Chief" Hughes Sr., 64, of 354 N. Main Street, Newton, died Tuesday, December 17, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home with burial in Travelers Rest Church Cemetery. The Rev. Gene Gilbert, the Rev. Paul Irvin and the Rev. Olen Cain will officiate.
Pallbearers include Robert Hall, Mike Irvin, Kevin Coker, Tim Shiver, Chip Davis and Pete Rentz.
Born October 29, 1938, in Colquitt County, Mr. Hughes was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Travelers Rest Freewill Baptist Church. He retired from the Newton Police Department as Chief of Police, after 29 years of service. Mr. Hughes was a member of the Georgia Peace Officers Association. He was the son of the late Henry Allen and Lizzie R. Rhodes Hughes. He was preceded in death by family members, James L., Lawton, Jefferson and Hopson Irvin.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Hughes of Newton; a son, Robert A. Hughes Jr. of Atlanta; a daughter, Loretta Hughes of Newton; a brother, Rhodes Hughes and wife, Martha of Albany; and their children, Dale and Tony of Atlanta, Charles and Pat Irvin Gibbs of Ashburn; two grandsons, Nicholas Allen Hughes and Clay Herring of Atlanta; and a godson, Ray Bailey II of Columbus, Ohio; a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
