DONALSONVILLE - Leroy Woods, 77, of Donalsonville, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2003, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Ken Baggett officiating. Interment will follow at Salem-Seminole Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. today at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home.
Mr. Leroy had lived all of his life in Donalsonville. He was born April 28, 1925, the son of the late John L. and Johnnie Simmons Woods. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He was married to Sarah Ingram in 1952, and after her death he married Grace Lane. He was retired from Great Southern Paper Mill where he was a maintenance operator and also did some part-time work with Winn Dixie. He was a member of Salem-Seminole Baptist Church.
Mr. Woods leaves to cherish his memory a wife, Grace Lane Woods; four daughters, Debbie Woods and Pam (Kenneth) Woodham, both of Dothan, AL, Diane (Lee) Bates of Leesburg, and June (Jimmy) Horne of Americus; two sisters, Kathlyn Smith of Moultrie and Dorothy Williams of Thomasville; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers, J.C. Woods and Hulan Woods, and one sister, Clara Cutts.
Pall bearers will be Brian Harrell, Jimmy Horne, Bryan Duren, Ronnie White, Marvin Daniel, and Clay Alday.
Flowers accepted or contributions can be made to Salem-Seminole Baptist Church, 2785 Joel Poole Rd., Donalsonville, GA 39845.

MOULTRIE - Ruth Giles Yawn, 97, of 2009 Fourth Street S.E., Moultrie, died Wednesday, January 1, 2003, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
The graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sardis Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6 p.m.-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

ALBANY - Larry Donnell Henry, 39, of 811 Herman Simmons Road, Doerun, died Wednesday, January 1, 2003, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Jones Chapel AME Church in Sylvester with interment in Shepard Memorial Garden in Sylvester. The Rev. Robert Lawson will officiate.
A native of Mitchell County, Mr. Henry was a concrete finisher. He was born August 1, 1963.
Survivors include his financee, Lisa Smith of Doerun; daughter, Laquashia Henry of Miami, FL; son, Devonta Bradley of Albany; five sisters, Lillian Wilkins, Carolyn Henry, both of Tampa, FL, Donnie McKinney of Fayetteville, NC, Catherine Carter of Sylvester, Willa Pearl Shaw of Detroit, Mich.; four brothers, Jessie Henry, Freeman Henry, Bobby Henry, all of Sylvester, and Clayton Henry of Albany.

ALBANY - The funeral service of Alice Lorraine Jarvis, 80, of Albany Health Care, 223 W 3rd Ave., who died Thursday, January 2, 2003, will be conducted today at 5 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Beau Taylor will officiate. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at Dieterle Memorial Home in Aurora, IL, interment will follow in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Aurora, IL.
A native of North Aurora, IL, Mrs. Jarvis had lived in Albany since 1991. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Jarvis along with her husband started the Soul's Harbor Open Bible Church in Aurora, IL, where they both taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Jarvis was preceded in death by her husband, Francis J. Jarvis.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice Jordan and her husband, Edward M. of Albany; granddaughters, Christine Hogan and husband, Michael and their children, Kaitlin and Matthew, all of Albany, Susie Mullins and her husband, John and their children, Lydia, Andrew and Clayton, all of Birmingham, AL, and Julie Hamby and her husband, John and their children, Alex and Jason, all of Jacksonville, FL; a brother-in-law, John Jarvis and his wife, Thelma of Geneva, IL, and a sister-in-law, Julie Swanson of St. Charles, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.

Jewel Luckey
ALBANY - Jewel Luckey, 81, of Albany died Thursday, January 2, 2003, at her home following an illness.
Her funeral service will be today 3 PM at Kimbrell-Stern with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Michael Gravette and the Rev. Tom Newman will officiate.
A native of Savannah, GA, she had lived in Albany most of her life. She attended schools in Albany and graduated from Albany High School in 1936, and from the John Davis Memorial Bible School in Binghamton, NY, in 1945. She lived as a pastor's wife until 1968 when she returned to Albany. She was a member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church and was the teacher of the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class. She visited the homebound members of Byne and participated on many mission trips. She taught kindergarten and day care at Byne for over 20 years, and she touched the lives of many children during that time. Following her retirement, she worked at the SOWEGA Council on Aging and volunteered with the Alzheimer's Caregivers Time Out (ACTO) program.
Survivors include two sons, Philip Thomas and his wife Connie of Cumming, GA, and Dan Thomas and his wife Beth of Plains, GA; a daughter, Ruth Knegtel and her husband Harry of Destin, FL; three grandchildren, Marie Thomas, David Thomas, Laura Thomas; a sister, Helen Strausser of Richmond, VA; a brother, Edward Johnson of Baltimore, MD.

James Lee Polite Sr.
ALBANY - The Rev. James Lee Polite Sr., 62, of 2606 Yorktown Avenue died Tuesday, December 31, 2002, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Albany with interment in Antioch Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Daniel Simmons, pastor, and the Rev. Donnie Ray Hall will officiate.
A native of Worth County, the Rev. Polite was pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Albany and Friendship Baptist Church in Chula. He was also a truck driver for Concrete Enterprises Inc. of Albany. He was a member of New Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Acree. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, former president of the YMPC and chairman of the Blue Springs Missionary Baptist Union Meeting. He attended Worth County public schools.
Survivors include his wife, Angela Jackson-Polite of Albany; one daughter, Dorothy Wright of Albany; four sons, James Polite Jr. of Clearwater, Fla., Anthony W. Polite and Kelvin C. Polite, both of Albany, and Anthony G. Clark of Atlanta; one sister, Anna Frazier-McCray of Albany; three brothers, the Rev. Dr. Raymond Polite and Prince Polite, both of Albany, and Linton Polite of South Bend, Ind.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The remains of the Rev. Polite will lie-in-state at the church today from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Wayne Hugh Callaway
FT. GAINES - Wayne Hugh Callaway, 77, of Ft. Gaines and a former resident of Randolph County, died Wednesday, January 1, 2003, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday from the graveside in New Bethel Baptist Church near Cuthbert. The Rev. Randy Stokes and the Rev. Dwyane Greene will officiate.
Mr. Callaway was born August 26, 1925, in Randolph County, son of the late Lucius Hugh Callaway and Mamie Royal Callaway. He was blessed to have worked until the Lord called him home. He was a contractor and owned and operated his own well drilling company for many years. Mr. Callaway was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helaine Strickland Callaway, and a daughter, Cecilia C. Bentley.
Survivors include his wife, Justine Gay Callaway of Ft. Gaines; five sons, John Callaway of Greenville, TX, Jimmy Callaway and his wife Mona of Cuthbert, Roger Shivers and his wife Suzanne of Ft. Gaines, Justin Shivers and his wife Charlotte of Ft. Gaines, and Olin shivers of Dothan, AL; two daughters, Susan Anderson of Blakely and Kathy and her husband John Ray Bailey of Colquitt; two sisters, Vivian Bullock of Peachtree City and Wynelle Andrews of Carnegie; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. from Lunsford Funeral Home.
