ALBANY Eugene C. Black Sr., 78, of Albany, died Friday night, January 31, 2003, at the VA Hospital in Dublin, GA. His funeral service will be Monday, 3 p.m. at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church, with intermenty to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Nancy Scarbrough and the Rev. Nathan Godley will officiate.
A native of The Rock, GA, he moved to Albany in 1949 to open his law practice. He attended R.E. Lee High School in Thomaston, GA, and Gordon Military College. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia Law School. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the 99th. Division of the 3rd Army, his unit participating in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Black was a member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church. He had taught Sunday School for many years at the First United Methodist Church and at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church. In addition to his law practice, Mr. Black served as juvenile court judge for 18 years. Judge Black was a member of the Dougherty County Kiwanis Club and a member of the Hasan Shrine.
A beloved husband and father, he leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Frances Loosier Black of Albany; two sons, Gene Black Jr. of Albany and Collier F. Black and his wife, Peggie of Ponte Vedra, FL; five grandchildren, Rebecca Louise Black, Paul VanDyke Black, Margaret McElroy, Charlotte Mineo, Collier P. Black; a brother-in-law, O.F. "Spec" Loosier and his wife, Elizabeth of Albany; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Call of Cayce, SC.

Mrs. Gwynn was born September 1, 1913 in Clay County, daughter of the late John I and Clyde Weaver Crapps. She attended GSCW, was a bookkeeper at the U.S. Naval Base at Norfolk, VA, and was a member of the Fort Gaines United Methodist Church. Mrs. Gwynn was the widow of Robert Carlton Gwynn.

Mrs. Wright was born December 17, 1913, daughter of the late Marion Cantrell and Martha Frye Cantrell. She was a retired employee with McGregor Golf Mfg. of Albany. She had been a resident of the Pleasant Hill Community for the past 30 years, and her husband was the late James G. Wright.

DONALSONVILLE Percy Ladon Hornsby, 68, of Iron City, GA, passed away Friday, January 31, 2003, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama.
Funeral services will be held at Union Missionary Baptist in Donalsonville, GA, today (Monday) at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gans Earnest officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hornsby had lived all of his life in Iron City, GA. He was born November 1, 1934 to the late Melvin Green and Gertrude Hodges Hornsby. He graduated from the Georgia Military Academy in Atlanta in 1953, began farming in Seminole County in 1954, and was married to the former Bobbie Bullard on July 15, 1960. He had been a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church since he was 14 years of age. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 165 of Colquitt, and had served numerous years as a director for the Seminole County Farm Bureau. He was one of the original directors of the FBS in Seminole County. He had received the American Farmer Degree from the FFA and his family was named Seminole County Farm Family of the Year in 1988. He enjoyed hunting, salt water fishing, and bill fishing, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Bobbie Hornsby of Iron City; a stepmother, Mildred I. Trawick of Iron City; one daughter, Gay Tabb and her husband, Russ of Colquitt; two sons, Joe Hornsby of Chatsworth, and Todd Hornsby and his wife, Dena of Iron City; one stepbrother, Michael Bullock and his wife, Karen of Cuthbert; one stepsister, Gayle Morrison and her husband, Jim of Birmingham, AL; and seven grandchildren, Lance, Adam, and Taylor Tabb, all Colquitt, Luke Hornsby of Chatsworth, Blake Hicks, Brooke and Andre Hornsby, all of Iron City.

AMERICUS The Reverend James H. Kimbrell, 65, of 178 Dogwood Hill, Americus, died Friday evening, January 31, 2003, at Sumter Regional Hospital.
The Rev. Kimbrell was born October 17, 1937 in Crisp County, a son of the late Alvin Littleton (Jack) Kimbrell and Della Stubbs Kimbrell. An industrial manufacturing manager, he was a member of Cheek Memorial Baptist Church, and an U.S. Army veteran (1955-76). The Rev. Kimbrell was active in the MB Council Lodge No. 13, Free and Accepted Masons of Americus, where he was Past Master of the Lodge, Past Master of the Third Masonic District, District Deputy to the Grand Master of the Third Masonic District, Royal Archmason, Shriner, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 63. Preaching was his first love. He also enjoyed camping and bowling. He was also a member of The Friendship Association.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Kimbrell of Americus; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lorraine and Robert Taylor of Germany, and Brenda and Tom Steele of Elberton; two sisters, Myrtice Ribbon of Eastman, and Diane O'Conner of Macon; one brother, Whit Kimbrell of Cordele; five grandchildren, Sandy Taylor Nickerson, Jami Steele, Alan Steele, Daniel Taylor and Elizabeth Taylor; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, James K. Kimbrell.

She was a graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science (Nashville), was a graduate of Moody Nursing School of Dothan, Alabama, and attended Baylor University, doing retired as a nurse for Andrew College. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cuthbert, where she was director of the Extension Department for many years and the W.M.U.

Born in Seminole County, GA, on April 7, 1936, the Rev. Odom was the son of the late Bertah Lee Broxton and Charlie Odom. He was owner and operator of Pelham Transmission and a member of Christian Life Center Assembly of God Church in Moultrie. He is the widow of Mary Sowell Odom.
