Mr. Beaman was a U.S. Air Force veteran of WW II having served in the South Pacific and a member of VFW Post 9738. He was a retired aircraft mechanic with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. William A. (Bill) Bearss, 73, died August 6, 2001. A native of Columbus, GA, he was a son of the late Clyde Ivan and Florence Grimes Bearss and was preceded in death by a brother, James E. Bearss. Mr. Bearss attended Clemson University and was retired from Georgia Power Company with 35 years of service. He was a member of Georgia Power Ambassadors, a U.S. Army veteran of WW II and a member of Central Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 8, 2001 at 11:00 AM at Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. Robert Bohler officiating. Interment will be at 4:00 PM in Cemetery Hill, Clemson, SC. He was past president of Green Hills Country Club and former member of Green Hills Golf Committee. Mrs. Frances Dillard Butts, 94, of Arnoldsville, passed away December 29, 2001. Mrs. Butts was the daughter of the late Anna Jane Quillian and Rev. Thomas Hutcheson Dillard. She graduated from Crawford High School in 1924, and the State Normal School in Athens in 1926. She then taught school in Lanette, AL, Royston and Warrenton, GA. Mrs. Butts joined Cherokee Corner Methodist Church in 1914, where she taught Sunday School and was pianist for many years. She operated Butts Grocery for six years, and was also a member of United Daughters of The Confederacy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Nesbit Butts, and son, John Orian Butts. She is survived by children, Ann and George Mewborne, Atlanta; Mary and Paul Butts, Gray; Virginia and Melvin Fleming, Arnoldsville; Dan Butts, Nashville, TN; Edwards Butts, Anchorage, AK; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. C.C. "Pete" Dalton, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, 81, died October 25, 2001. A native of White County, he was a son of the late Thomas Watson Dalton, Sr. and Viola Smith Dalton and the widower of Lorene Hogan Dalton, wife of 60 years. Mr. Dalton had made his home in Crawford since 1951. He was a local businessman, having owned and operated Dalton's Gulf Station in Crawford and Dalton's Grocery Store in Hutchins. Following his retirement, he served as Mayor and City Councilman of Crawford and later served as a bailiff with Oglethorpe County Superior Court for a number of years. He was a member of Lexington Masonic Lodge and Grove Chapel Congregational Holiness Church. Nina Crowe Dickens, 92, died October 28, 2001. A native of Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late W. Sam and Nannie Baugh Crowe. She was the widow of Lewis L. (Pete) Dickens, Sr. and was preceded in death by a daughter, Dolores Sims, infant daughter Rosemary, siblings, Sam H. Crowe, Felton V. Crowe and Irene Wheeler. Mrs. Dickens was a graduate of Bogart High School and Athens High School and attended Lucy Cobb College. She was active in many school organizations including past president of Bogart PTA and Bogart High School Alumni. She was a member of Sunset Garden Club and held many positions of office while doing volunteer work in the community. She was a member of Bulldog Booster Club and Minerva Club of SAE. Mrs. Dickens was a homemaker and member of Bogart Baptist Church for 83 years where she served as a Sunday School teacher and long time member of WMU. Her home was always open to all friends or family when they needed a place to stay whether for a week or years. During the depression she provided meals to the school teachers who weren't being paid. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, WEST with Rev. Bill Hayes officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include 2 daughters and son in law, Betty Felder and Shirley and Jackson Jones of Bogart; Son and daughter in law, Lewis L.(Pete), Jr. and Vicky Dickens of Athens; Sister, Pat Norris and 2 brothers, Ted Crowe and Dorsey Crowe, all of Bogart; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many other family and friends. A lifelong resident of Winterville, Mr. Eubank was son to Grace Jones Eubank of Athens and the late Ben Eubank, Sr. He was a Viet Nam veteran of the U.S. Army 4th Infantry Division. Mr. Eubank was a life member of L.Z. Friendly, where he served on the board of directors for several years, a member of VFW Post 2872, Disabled American Veterans, and Sons of Confederate Veterans. A veteran of WW II, Mr. Forbes was retired from Big Apple/Aultman Foods, Atlanta, after approximately 40 years of service. More recently, he was the owner and proprietor of Forbes Grocery, Stephens, GA. He was a Mason and Shriner, a member of Cascade Lodge #94, Atlanta, and a member of Salem Baptist Church, Lexington, GA. Services will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Salem Baptist Church with Revs. Jack Lindsay and Clayton Sanders officiting. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery. Interment will be in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be David Fields, Wade Fields, John Eades, Grant Gillespie, Randy Hanley and Ben Hanley. Survivors include her husband, Scott Hanley; 4 daughters, Kristen Hanley, Rebecca Hanley, Nicole Hanley and Kimberly Hanley, all of Hull; 2 sisters, Winona Fields of Danielsville and Gloria Bellew of Commerce; 1 grandchild, MacKenzie Hanley of Hull and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a fund has been established for the minor children of Mrs. Hanley, c/o Merchants & Farmers Bank, P.O. Box 95, Comer, GA, 30629. Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville is in charge of arrangements.
