WINDER - Dwight "Bat" Boggus, 40, died Tuesday, February 13, 2001, at Winder Community Hospital.
Born in Barrow County, Mr. Boggus had worked in construction and for the City of Winder.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 15, in Smith's Memory Chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder, with the Revs. Frankie Green and Montana Birt officiating and the Rev. Steve Wilson giving the eulogy. Burial was in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Boggus is survived by his wife, Carol Wilson Boggus, Winder; father and step-mother, Willie Lee and Peggy Boggus, Homer; mother and step-father, Betty Nix and Grady McCannon, Crawford; one daughter, Tonya Elizabeth Boggus, Winder; four sisters, Darlene Maddox, Bethlehem, Lynn Serviss, New Port Richey, Fla., and Neldie Hardy and Martha Medcalf, both of Arcade; two brothers, David Boggus, Statham, and Mark Boggus, Bethlehem; one half-brother, Michael Boggus, Homer; and three step-brothers, Robert "Chuck" Hill and Timothy William Hill, both of Homer, and Richard "Chip" Hill, Jefferson.

MR. ECHOLS
Farmer
ALTO - Harrison Echols, 100, a farmer, died Friday, February 16, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Echols was born December 1, 1900, in Hall County, a son of the late William Duncan and Jane Brock Echols.
He was retired from Warren Featherbone Manufacturing, with 18 years of service, and was formerly employed with Carwood Manufacturing. Mr. Echols was a member of Antioch Fire Baptized Holiness Church, where he served as a deacon and as former Sunday School Superintendent and treasurer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Kimsey Echols, a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Echols, two sisters, Emma Freeman and Maude Echols, and a brother, Lonnie Echols.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 18, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. Jacob Armour officiating. Burial was in the Antioch Fire Baptized Holiness Church cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Jane Murphy, Alto, Dorothy Merle Turner, Lula, and Martha Kinsey, Alto; three sons, Thomas H. Echols, Howard Echols and Wendell Echols, all of Alto; three sisters, Mary Beacham, Athens, Ida Sigers, Gainesville, and Latrell Warren, Cornelia; two brothers, Tim Echols, Graniteville, S.C., and Bascomb Echols, Lula; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

MRS. BLACK
Banks County native
PENDERGRASS - Mrs. Ethelene Black, 88, died Monday, February 19, 2001, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
A native of Banks County, Mrs. Black was born May 30, 1912, a daughter of the late Henry and Genie Presley Hagwood.
She was a homemaker and a member of Free Chapel Worship Center, Gainesville. Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest J. Black, and a daughter, Eloise Brown.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, in the chapel of Jackson Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Jake Davis officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include four daughters, Ruby Wall and Ann Garrett, both of Winder, Edna McClain, Pendergrass, and Gladys Faulkner, Talmo; four sons, Ralph Black, Larry Black and Gene Black, all of Pendergrass, and Harold Black, Banks County; three sisters, Jewell Lynn, Flowery Branch, Mozelle Miller, Chamblee, and Linnis Davis, Monroe; 25 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

MRS. COWART
Mother of two
MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Fannie Cowart, 79, a homemaker, died Friday, February 16, 2001, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Mrs. Cowart was born March 8, 1921, a daughter of the late Hoyt and Mary Olive Day Adams.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hiram Shewbert, and her second husband, Hoyt Cowart.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 18, at Maysville Baptist Church with the Revs. Brian Stowe and Les Vinluan officiating. Burial was in Gillsville Cemetery, Gillsville.
Survivors include one son, James Shewbert, Powder Springs; one daughter, Jo Ann Crumley, Maysville; one sister, Martha Buffington, Norcross; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

MR. VENABLE
U.S. Air Force retiree
COMMERCE - William Venable Jr., 50, died Sunday, February 18, 2001, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Venable was born February 9, 1951, a son of William Venable Sr. and Annie Ruth Standridge Venable, Commerce.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Living Word Worship Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 22, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Dennis Kesler, Howard Rhodes and Ronald Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Howington Cemetery, Nicholson.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Venable is survived by his wife, Roberta Wilson Venable, Commerce; one son, Larry Venable, Copperas Cove, Texas; one brother, Allen Venable, Lula; two sisters, Connie Garner, Maysville, and Diane Matthews, Commerce; and three grandchildren.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

ATHENS - Mrs. Edith Laura Palmer Watson, 81, mother of Wanda Capes, Alto, died Wednesday, February 14, 2001.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Watson was a daughter of the late George and Annie Wade Palmer.
She was a homemaker and had attended Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, Watkinsville. Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her husband, Cartee Watson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 16, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Revs. Douglas Hammond and Nathan Palmer officiating. Burial was in the Vineyards Creek Baptist Church cemetery. Mrs. Watson's grandsons served as pallbearers.
Survivors include three daughters, Joann Howard, McDonough, Shirley Wilbanks, Athens, and Capes; two sons, William Watson, Milledgeville, and O.D. Watson, Athens; three sisters, Pauline Seay, Danielsville, and Dorothy Morris and Flora Brown, both of Colbert; one brother, Billy Palmer, Comer; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

MT. AIRY - Mrs. Maebelle H. Nation, 87, died Sunday, February 18, 2001, at a private nursing home following an extended illness.
Born June 2, 1913, in White County, Mrs. Nation was a daughter of the late Benjamin M. and Alice Adams Hicks.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with Dr. John Bridges and Margie Nell Abernathy officiating. Burial was in the Hazel Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Herbert Owen Sr., Mt. Airy; grandson and wife, Herbert Owen Jr. and Gina Owen, Baldwin; grandson, Aaron Owen, Atlanta; and two great-grandchildren, Brandi and Brian Owen, both of Baldwin.

MT. AIRY - Mrs. Lonie Williams, 88, died Saturday, February 17, 2001, at her residence following a brief illness.
Born in Banks County on November 25, 1912, Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late James Byrant and Sally Farmer Nunnally.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Williams, and a son, Clyde Williams Jr.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2001, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Rev. Anthony Shore officiating. Burial was in the Harmony Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Cragg, Alto; two sons, Leon Williams and Roy Williams, both of Mt. Airy; one brother, Horace Nunnally, Mt. Airy; one sister, Nay Gragg, Clayton; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

A native of White County, Mrs. Parks had lived in Hall and Habersham counties for most of her life. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, February 8, in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville, with the Rev. Robbie Foster and Wayne Bryant officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Gainesville.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, David and Penny Parks, Gainesville; daughter, Linda Sue Bell, Clarkesville; four sisters, Mary Lee Petitt, Demorest, Margaret Pierce, Lula, Georgia Gee, Danielsville, and Sue Nix, Mt. Airy; and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Westmoreland was born November 27, 1914, a daughter of the late Columbus V. and Ann Jeanetta McDonald Wilson.
She was a housewife.
