Plonie M. Cotton
Mrs. Plonie Mae Tanner Cotton, 90, of Gillsville, died Saturday, February 12, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce, following a long illness.
Mrs. Cotton was born December 4, 1909, in Jackson County. She was a daughter of the late Erastus Voyles and Laura Sanders Voyles.
She was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Homer.
Mrs. Cotton was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Cotton.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 15, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Ralph O. Smith officiating. Burial was in Midway Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth Tanner, Gillsville; four sisters, Hester Dickson, Snellville, Pauline Sosby, Cumming, Rosa Lou Stringer and Willard Strickland, both of Jefferson, and Laura Sailers, Bethelem; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Oatha R. Martin
Oatha R. Martin, 83, of Watkinsville, died Friday, February 11, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Athens, following a long illness.
Mr. Martin was born April 24, 1916, in Banks County. He was a son of the late George and Lucy Sisk Martin.
Mr. Martin was of the Presbyterian faith.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 13, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. David Perkins officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Clark Martin; two sons, Royce L. Martin, Nashville, Tenn., and Ronnie L. Martin, Watkinsville; two daughters, Ruby M. Berryman, Watkinsville, and Jeannie M. Mullin, Tustin Ranch, Calif.; one brother, Cecil Martin, Monroe; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ila B. Swords
Mrs. Ila B. Swords, 90, of Winder, died Friday, February 11, 2000.
Mrs. Swords was born in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Jim and Fannie Mae Perry Miller. She had resided in Barrow County for most of her life.
Mrs. Swords was a retired seamstress and was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Swords, and a son, Bobby Swords.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 13, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Kenneth Deaton officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include daughter, Joyce Stowe, Columbus; sons and daughters-in-law, Milton and Dorothy Swords and Larry and Nolan Swords, all of Winder; one sister, Bonnie Hill, Center; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Carter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Cleve M. Walls
Cleve Manuel Walls, 66, of Eastman, died Thursday, February 10, 2000, at Dodge County Hospital.
Mr. Walls was born February 15, 1933, in Crisp, Ga. He was a son of the late Oscar Lee and Maggie Jane Brown Walls.
Mr. Walls was a mechanic, having retired from Jackson County Public Works. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Delilah Grace Walls, and a sister, Doris Walls Herrington.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 13, at Penia Baptist Church, Cordele, with the Rev. James Dumas officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Shannon Walls, William Tedder, Jason Lockhart, Israel Lockhart, Michael Vandiver and Tommy Garrett served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Paula Faye Owens provided organ music for the service, while Mrs. Vickie Brown played the piano and sang "Amazing Grace." Brown also sang "Take My Hand Precious Lord" acappela. The Rev. Dumas presented Mr. Walls' daughter, Mrs. Cynthia H. Thompson, the American Flag.
Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Thompson, Cumming; two brothers, James "Jim" Walls, Abbeville, and Oscar Lee Walls Jr., Maysville; five sisters, Elizabeth Walls Wilson, Pendergrass, Helen Walls Nester, Forsyth, Maggie Walls Vaughan, Alto, Lucille Walls McDaniel, Eastman, and Shirley Walls Edge, El Paso, Texas; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Dekle Funeral Home, Cordele, was in charge of arrangements.

Frances W. Huchingson
Mrs. Frances Wood Huchingson, 89, died Saturday, February 12, 2000.
Mrs. Huchingson was a daughter of the late Emory and Edna Wood.
She was a descendant of some of Commerce's first settlers.
Mrs. Huchingson was very active in church work, having led a Bible study in the nursing home where she resided for the past several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben Huchingson, and two brothers, Louis Wood and Frank Wood.
Mrs. Huchingson is survived by two nieces, Mary Lou Wood Faulkner and Susan Wood Jobe; and two nephews, Frank Wood Jr. and George Wood.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Commerce.

Nell S. Howard
Mrs. Nell Spinks Howard, 84, of Jefferson, died Friday, February 11, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Howard was born November 7, 1915, in Clarke County. She was the widow of the late Walter DeLeon Howard and the daughter of the late Homer and Madge Spinks.
Mrs. Howard dealt with medical records for the government and was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Jefferson.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 14, in the chapel of Jackson Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Wayne Hembree officiating. Burial was in Howard Cemetery, Jefferson.
She is survived by daughter, Betty Nell, and son-in-law, Sidney L. Pope, Jefferson; grandchildren, Lanny and Marie Pope, Commerce, Walter and Cindy Pope and Kevin and Karen Pope, Jefferson, and Lee and Meriam Pope, Covington; great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Shannon, Jody, Josh, Duane, Leslie, Kimberly, Kristopher, Steven and Michael Pope; four sisters, Madge Coone, Athens, Mivred Fulcher, Jefferson, Davida Spinks, Crawford, and Diane Starling, Macon; and two brothers, M.C. "Bud" Spinks, Athens, and Mack M. Spinks, Jefferson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
Jackson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn O. Nelms
Mrs. Evelyn O. Nelms, 74, of Hull, died Thursday, February 10, 2000.
A native of Washington County, Mrs. Nelms was a daughter of the late Arthur L. and Julia Wiggins O'Quinn.
A graduate of Towns County High School and the University of Georgia, she had lived in Madison County since 1946. Mrs. Nelms was retired from Madison County High School as a teacher, with 27 years of service. She also served as head of the Business Education Department.
For a number of years, Mrs. Nelms was manager of the Madison County Teachers Federal Credit Union and Annual Staff sponsor. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 12, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Passmore, Ray Jenkins and Bill Wood officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mike Rice, Fred Chambers, Ron Miller, Jim Perkins, John Jackson and W.G. Kesler served as pallbearers.
Survivors include her husband, J. Hoyt Nelms; three daughters, Angela Rouse and Linda Kay Holloman, both of Hull, and Judy Cochrane, Marietta; one son, Leonard H. Nelms, Houston, Texas; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Madison County Cancer Society Relay for Life, 1060 Gaines School Road, Athens, GA 30605.
Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.

JEFFERSON - Mrs. Nell Spinks Howard, 84, died Friday, February 11, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.

Retired mechanic
EASTMAN - Cleve Manuel Walls, 66, died Thursday, February 10, 2000, at Dodge County Hospital.
Mr. Walls was born February 15, 1933, in Crisp, Ga. He was a son of the late Oscar Lee and Maggie Jane Brown Walls.

MR. ROBERTS

JEFFERSON - Roger Ladon "Don" Roberts, 54, died Sunday, February 13, 2000, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Roberts was born April 11, 1945, in Barrow County. He was a son of Jimmy and Matchell Spinks Roberts, Winder.
Mr. Roberts was employed as a manager of vineyards with Château Élan. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonya Lynn Roberts.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 15, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Revs. Tim Skelton and Bascom Skelton officiating. Burial was in the White Plains Baptist Church cemetery. Joe Simmons, Randyl Simmons, Bobby Potter, Jeffrey Irvin, Bosie Griffith and Eddie Whiting served as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Jackie Roberts Roberts; one son, Timothy Roberts, Pendergrass; one brother, Randy Roberts, Auburn; and two grandchildren.
Evans Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
