BUFORD - Mrs. Cora Ivey Welborn, 78, formerly of Cornelia, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at her residence following a brief illness.
Mrs. Welborn was born August 4, 1921 in Habersham County. She was a daughter of the late Ed and Pearl Johnson Ivey.
Mrs. Welborn was retired from the IRS as a clerk and was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Buford, Burlin and Phillip Ivey.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 3, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Rev. Terry Rice officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include her husband, Porter J. Welborn, Buford; daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Jim Robinson, Lilburn; four sisters, Anna Mae Morris, Gastonia, N.C., Margie Hooper, Gainesville, Edna Churchwell, Cornelia, and Ruby Henderson, Spartanburg, S.C.; granddaughter and husband, Sonya and Gary; and grandson, Ward.

MR. MANEY
Banks County native
BALDWIN - Tommy Maney, 73, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mr. Maney was born April 12, 1926, in Banks County. He was a son of the late Ken and Pauline Chambers Maney.
Mr. Maney was retired from the Banks County Road Crew, with over 50 years of service, and was a member of Mtn. View Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas David Maney, and five brothers, Coy, Bob, Ed, J.C. and D.C. Maney.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 10, at Rock Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Randall Payne, Dave Ledford, J.R. Baird and Racheo Lacey officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Ballenger Maney; four daughters, Bonnie Davis, Baldwin, Geraldine Simmons, Toccoa, Dianne Tyra, Lawrenceville, and Doris Lewallen, Clarkesville; three sisters, Ernestine Blackburn and Mary Edna Chandler, both of Alto, and Francellen Chambers, Homer; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

MR. GARHAM
Texas native
COMMERCE - John Meador Garham Sr., 98, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at Northminster Retirement Village.
Mr. Garham was born December 28, 1901, in Coryelle County, Texas. He was a son of the late William Robert and Johnnye Peters Garham.
Mr. Garham was retired from Armour Company and was a member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, Atlanta. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 486 F. & A.M. for 55 years.
Mr. Garham was preceded in death by his wife, Bertie Bridgewater Garham, and a son, John M. Garham Jr.
Graveside services were held Sunday, April 9, in Arlington Cemetery, Roswell, with the Rev. Tom Leland officiating.
Survivors include two sons, Preston Don Garham and William Dan Garham, both of Cumming; one daughter, Janet Varner, Commerce; one sister, Mary Winkler, Gatesville, Texas; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

MRS. MORRISON
Banks County native
COMMERCE - Mrs. Bertha E. Morrison, 87, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Morrison was born October 26, 1912, in Banks County. She was a daughter of the late Lunnie F. and Martha McCoy Eubanks.
Mrs. Morrison was a member of the First Baptist Church of Commerce. She was preceded in death by her husband, David W. Morrison.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 8, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Don Paulson officiating. Mrs. Morrison's son, the Rev. Charles Morrison, Commerce, and the Rev. Kent Cranford assisted. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
In addition to her son, Mrs. Morrison is survived by two sisters, Evelyn Stevens, Commerce, and Fannie Ruth Martin, Danielsville; two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Athens Regional Foundation.

MR. BROWN
U.S. Navy veteran
COMMERCE - Henry Grady Brown, 73, died Friday, April 7, 2000, at his residence.
Mr. Brown was born July 8, 1926, in Banks County. He was a son of the late Fred Q. and Minnie Lee Eubanks Brown.
Mr. Brown was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II, and was retired from the Commerce Post Office. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Commerce, the V.F.W. and of Hudson Lodge 294.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a brother, Nelson Brown.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 9, at the First Baptist Church of Commerce with the Rev. Kent Cranford officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce. Tommy Nunn, Steve Nunn, Scott Nunn, Mike Brown, Jeff Hill and Rod Wilson served as pallbearers. The honorary pallbearers were members of the Friendly 57 Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church of Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Webb Brown; son and daughter-in-law, Dusty and Linda Brown, Dalton; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Greg Jarvis, Commerce; two brothers, Robert C. Brown and Winfred Brown, both of Commerce; one sister, Ruby Bellamy, Toccoa; one grandson, Brody Brown; and two granddaughters, Emily Rose Brown and Jenna Jackson.

MR. WARD
U.S. Army Air Corps veteran
MOLENA - Kermit Q. Ward, 82, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Upson Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Ward was born in Banks County, but had lived in Pike County since 1939. He was a son of the late Buray and Mary Jane Fowler Ward.
A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, Mr. Ward completed 52 combat bombing missions over Germany during World War II. He was self-employed for many years in the home construction business and was the former post master in the Molena Post Office. Mr. Ward retired as the first building inspector for Pike County, with 20 years of service.
He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon since 1948.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 1, at Beulah Baptist Church with the Revs. Clay Matthews, J.E. Jarrard, Clarence Denny, Jimmy Daniel and James Wright officiating. Burial was in the Beulah Church cemetery in Molena.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Mangham Ward; one daughter, Diane Denny, Zebulon; three sons, Kenneth Ward, Zebulon, and Harold Ward and Mike Ward, both of Molena; one sister, Woodie Berry, Lawrenceville; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Many relatives in Banks and Habersham counties also survive.

ALTO - Mrs. Frannie Meeks White Hogan, 93, died Friday, April 7, 2000, in a private nursing facility following an extended illness.
Mrs. Hogan was born September 20, 1906, in Banks County. She was a daughter of the late General and Janie Lacey Meeks.
Mrs. Hogan was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Sinai Congregational Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Garland White, her second husband, Watson Thomas Hogan, and four sons, Aurthor White, Howard White, Eugene White and James White.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 9, at Mt. Sinai Congregational Holiness Church with the Revs. Ryan Smith, Robert Magness and Rachel Hooper officiating. Burial was in the Yonah Congregational Holiness Church cemetery.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Evia Jane and Billy Maney, Alto; daughter, Jeanette Craven, Alto; son, Talmadge White, Wilmington, N.C.; two sisters, Betty Shubert, Gastonia, N.C., and Carrie Brown, Athens; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

MR. HEWELL
World War II veteran
GILLSVILLE - Carl William Hewell, 87, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at his residence.
A native of Hall County, Mr. Hewell was a son of the late Maryland "Bud" and Ada Adams Hewell.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army, and was a fourth generation potter. Mr. Hewell had made pottery all his life until he retired in April of 1994. He was a member of Gillsville Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 6, at Gillsville Baptist Church with the Revs. Jeff Morgan and Darryl Womack officiating. Burial was in the Pine Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Janie Sue Hewell; daughter and son-in-law, Deloris and Douglas Parks, Lula; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Helen Hewell, Gillsville; two brothers, Harold Hewell, Gillsville, and Henry Hewell, Commerce; one sister, Grace Johnson, Chattanooga, Tenn.; grandsons and wives, Darren and Beth Parks, Cornelia, and Bryan and Misty Parks, Lula; grandson, Kevin Hewell, Gillsville; granddaughter, April Hewell, Commerce; and one great-grandchild, Camryn Parks, Lula.

EARL J. HUTTO
Earl Jefferson Hutto, 78, of Danielsville, died Saturday, April 15, 2000. He was born in Hampton, S.C., to the late Clayton and Macy Williams Hutto.
Mr. Hutto was a retired mechanic and welder and served in the Army in World War II. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Hutto was preceded in death by his wife, Lurline Jones Hutto, and his parents.
The funeral services were held Monday, April 17, at Brown's Funeral Home Chapel, Danielsville, with the Revs. David McDonald and James Creason officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Michael Jones, Jamel Jones, Donald Jones, Chester Bray, Randy Graham and Kenneth Graham.
Survivors include one step-daughter, Dinnie Mildred Purdue, and two step-sons, Albert Milton Thomas and Milford Alvin Thomas, all of Danielsville; three sisters, Verma Metts, Chapin, S.C., Marie Derrick, Swansea, S.C., and Dorothy Margie Neese, West Columbia, S.C.; one brother, Richard A. Hutto, Gaston, S.C.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

KENNETH S. BELL
Kenneth Sam Bell, 52, of Commerce, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at VA Regional Hospital.
Mr. Bell was born December 10, 1947, a son of Clemmie Andrews Bell, Commerce, and the late Jessie L. Bell.
He was self-employed in lawn service.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 15, at Charity Baptist Church with Ministers V. Howington, B. Burrell and J. Stowe officiating. Burial was in the Indian Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Carnesville.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda A. Bell; two brothers, C.D. Bell and James Bell, both of Commerce; and five sisters, Grace Busha, Carnesville, Gladys Catalano, Homer, Louise Pruitt and Brenda Segars, both of Commerce, and Agnes Young, Ila.
