Sharon Cody
Mrs. Sharon Cody, age 54 of Fairmount, Ga., passed late Thursday afternoon, April 1, 2010 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Cody, Fairmount; father, Jerry L. Gunn, Hogansville, Ga.; son, Keith Cody, Fairmount; daughter, Leanne Cody, Canton; and brothers, Blane Gunn, Hiawasee, Ga., Steve Gunn, Hampton, and Charles Gunn, Newnan.
The funeral service was held Saturday, April 3 at 3 p.m. from the Cagle of Cagle Funeral Home.

Thomas James
Mr. Thomas H. James of Jasper passed early Wednesday morning, March 31, 2010 at Grandview Health Care in Jasper.
Mr. James was a graduate of the University of Florida with a Business Administration degree. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and a very, very avid “Gator Fan” - “Go Gators”. Mr. James was a life-long Christian and a member of Tate United Methodist Church. He was a Vietnam era veteran having served in the US Army in Korea during 1963-66.
Survivors include his wife, Becky James, Jasper; daughter, Melissa Toel, Jasper; and son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Erin James, Woodstock. Two grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 3 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Schlicht officiating. The family did accept flowers; however, they would prefer that memorials be made to The Lewy Bodies Dementia Association @ LBDA, 912 Killian Hill Rd., SW, Ste. 202C, Atlanta, Ga. 30047; 404-935-6444.

Helen Lanier
Helen Stancil Lanier, age 88 of Ball Ground, Ga., died on Friday April 2, 2010 at Embracing Arms Hospice.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn Stancil Manous Voyles and James, Jasper, Kathy Stancil Whitehead and Clint and Jane Stancil McLendon, all of Ball Ground, Ga.; brother, Luther Mitchell, Jasper; and sister, Doris Mitchell Bradley, Tucker, Ga. Six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lora Mae Mitchell.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 5 from the Chapel of Darby Huey Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken May officiating. Burial was in Cherokee Memorial Park. www.

Thelma Pettigrew
Mrs. Thelma Pettigrew, age 92 of Jasper. Ga., spouse of the late William V. Pettigrew, passed away at her residence.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Gail and James Reid, Jasper, Jean Tierney, Mandeville, La., and Loretta Roberts, Woodstock. Eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
A Memorial Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, April 9 at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church with Father Byrd officiating. An entombment is planned for a later date at Westlawn cemetery in Gretna, La. The family requests no flowers, but donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Luther Mitchell
Mr. Luther M. Mitchell, age 85 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Mitchell was a WW II veteran, having served in the US Army Air Corps. He was a farmer and enjoyed the mountains. Mr. Mitchell was a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Winnie Mitchell, Jasper; daughter, Barbara (Larry) Poole, Jasper; grandsons, Neal and Jeff Poole, both of Jasper; and sister, Doris Bradley, Tucker. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 7 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Gene Tatum and Franklin McPherson officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Pleasant Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

Stella Fowler
Mrs. Stella Mae Duckett Fowler, age 86 of McDonough, passed away May 5, 2010.
She was born in Pickens County,Ga. to the late Dave and Mary Sams Duckett. Mrs. Fowler enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and quilting and was a member of Arbor Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Paul A. Fowler, Sr.; and four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Paul, Jr. and Zytha Fowler, Jonesboro, and Tommy D. and Brenda Fowler, McDonough. Five grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, May 8 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Smith officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Arbor Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Pickens County at 3 p.m. Contributions may be made to Arbor Hill Baptist Church in memory of Mrs. Fowler.

Glenn Anderson
Mr. Glenn Anderson, age 61 of Tate, passed away Friday, May 7, 2010 at Northside Hospital-Forsyth in Cumming.
Survivors include his mother, Stella Anderson; son, Josh Anderson, Tate; daughter, Christy Lyons, Tate; brothers, Eugene and James Anderson, both of Jasper; sisters, Dorothy Davis, Jasper, Margie Fowler, Texas, and Judy Mobley and Barbara Blackwell, both of Jasper; beloved fiancee, Jean Henson, Marble Hill; grandchildren, Miranda Mullins, Dalton Lyons and Taygen Henson; and aunt, Judy Haney, Jasper.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 11 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Steve Chadwick and A.W. Butch Roberts officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Tex Macom, Alan Hill, Doug Evans, Ethan Fields, Shanon Mobley and Frank Anderson.

Mitzi Hatten
Ms. Mitzi Hatten, age 52 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include her parents, Bill and Jo Ann McClellan, Ball Ground; son, Will Bennett, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Eric Wyman, Jasper; sister, Renee Simmons, Ball Ground; and grandson, Wesley Wyman, Jasper. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 10 from Gospel Temple Church in Ball Ground with Brother A.W. Butch Roberts and Brother Bill Lewis officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Cody, Joel and Nathan Pettitt, Eric Wyman, David Lloyd and Matt Huffman. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Herbert Hensley
Mr. Herbert Hoover Hensley, age 81 of Ranger, Ga., departed this life Monday morning, May 10, 2010 at Calhoun Health Care Center.
Herbert was born March 19, 1929 in Pickens County, Ga., a son of the late Agustus and Emma Vick Hensley. He was retired from the DOT. Mr. Hensley was also preceded in death by his brothers, Velt, Clifford and Amos Hensley; sisters, Velvey Hensley, Ramie McClure, Jewel Goble, Bonnie Corn and Eunive Hensley; and son-in-law, Mike Keener.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Elosie Hensley; son and daughter-in-law, Dwight David and Pat Hensley; daughter, Deborah Keener; and special grandson, Blaine Ty Hensley, all of Ranger.
A service to celebrate his life was held Wednesday, May 12 at 2 p.m. from Berean Baptist Church with the Revs. Calvin Ball and Gene Childers officiating. Music was provided by the Hensley Trio. He was laid to rest in Berean Baptist Church cemetery with Jerry Crump, Shane McDougle, Mylon Holbert, Jim Phillips, Wayne Goble, Johnny Corn, John McAfee and Danny Childers serving as pallbearers. His nephews and friends served as honorary pallbearers.

Opalene McFalls
Mrs. Opalene McFalls, age 72 of Jasper, passed away Friday May 14, 2010 at her home. She was preceded in death by her son, Garvin Padgett.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kina Padgett, Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, O.T. and Colleen Mullinax, Columbia, S.C.; and special friend, Jerome Dyer, Jasper. Seven grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Shane Calhoun and Bobby Cantrell officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the church cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Roper Funeral Home.

N.C. Low
N.C. Low, age 84 of Talking rock, passed away Monday, May 10, 2010 at his residence.
After attending North Georgia College, Mr. Low joined the US Marine Corps and served in the Pacific Theater in WW II. Later he also served in the US Air Force at Turner AFB.
A lifelong resident of Talking Rock, Mr. Low was the owner of N.C. Low Pulpwood Co. in association with The Hiawassee Land Co, as well as many other varied business ventures. In addition, he took many leadership roles in the community, including serving as a deacon in Talking Rock Baptist Church, member of the Masons and a Shriner, secretary to the Board of Jasper Banking Co., Pickens Technical Institute Board of Directors, chairman of Pickens County Democrats and mayor of Talking Rock.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Norman C. Low, Sr. and Jewell Bunch Low; as well as a sister, Betty Culverhouse. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Hobson Low; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Edwina Low, Carrollton, and Joey Low, Talking Rock; daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Dennis Hodge, Rome; and sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Theron Crowe, Marietta. He is also survived by three grandchildren Chris Low and wife Cari, Ali Low and Kayla Low and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Thursday, May 13 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home in Jasper with the Revs. Larry Kelly and Max Caylor officiating. In addition, he was eulogized by both his son Michael and the Hon. Ed Jenkins. Both celebrated the long and full life of a man who loved and provided well for his family, was a large personality with a great sense of humor and adventure, and was an example for many in Pickens County in both word and deed. He was known as “friend” to a wide circle. iIntermentfollowed at Talking Rock Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Talking Rock. An honor guard provided by local DAV Chapter 47 and active duty Marines recognized his war-time service with a 21-gun salute, playing of Taps and presentation of the flag to his wife. Serving as pallbearers were: Chris Low, Jim and Mike Lowe, Mark Grizzle, Richard Reece and Larry Watson. Donations may be made to a scholarship fund with Chattahoochee Technical College Foundation or Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Broward Garrison
Mr. L.B. Broward Garrison, age 93 of Jasper and Toccoa, Ga., passed at Stephens County Hospital, Toccoa, early Friday morning, May 14, 2010.
Mr. Garrison was an Army veteran of WW II, a 50-year Master Mason, a 50-year Lions Melvin Jones Fellow and a District 18A Hall of Fame member of the Jasper Lions Club. He had been a member of Jasper United Methodist Church for over 50 years. The Cochran-Garrison Building was named in his honor.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Garrison; sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Linda Garrison, Orlando. Fl., and Mike and Donna Garrison, Jasper; and grandchildren, Kristin Kelting, DeBary, Fl., and Kelly Finogle, Virginia Beach, Va. Four great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Garrison was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Garrison.
The funeral service was held Monday, May 17 at 2 p.m. from Jasper United Methodist Church with the Revs. Chip Wilson and Hoyt Jenkins officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with local Chapter #47 DAV in charge of military graveside services. Pallbearers were: Paul, Steve, Kevin and Justin Garrison, Chad Finogle and Pete Kelting.

Deanna Griffin
Ms. Deanna Leigh Griffin, age 37 of Swanee, Ga., passed at her residence Tuesday evening, May 11, 2010.
Survivors include her daughter, Shyanne Griffin Dacula; father, Hoyle Griffin, Demorest, Ga.; ex-husband, Shon Griffin, Dacula; aunts and uncles, Gaylon and Les Brinson, Jasper, Debbie and Herb Theis and Deborah and Ron Schoen; and cousins, Tim and Anita Prichard.
A memorial service was held Saturday, May 15 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home. Pastor Bob Self officiated with eulogies given by Gaylon Brinson and Shon Griffin. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to Living Word Church for a trust fund established for the daughter, Shyanne Griffin.

David Satterfield
Mr. David S. Satterfield, age 54 of Canton, passed way Friday, May 14 2010.
David served in the US Army and was a member of Spirit Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sons, Casey Sanders, Jasper, and Michael Wilkie, Holly Springs; half-brother, Danny Cline, Douglasville; two grandchildren; aunt, Myrle Williams, Ball Ground; and special cousin, Lynn Mosteller. Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 20 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Richard Picklesimer and Albert Kyle officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sosebee Funeral Home to assist with funeral arrangements.
