William Donald Tison
Mr. William Donald Tison, 52, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2003, at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, following an extended illness.
Mr. Tison had lived in Clinch County all his life. Coach Tison, as he was commonly known, was head football coach for the Clinch County High School Panthers from 1974 until he moved into administration in 1994, later becoming principal. He was a member and deacon of the Homerville Congregational Methodist Church. He was the son of the late Robert Julian Tison and Susie Vivian Williams Tison.
Survivors are his wife, Pamela Hinson Tison of Homerville; one daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Jason Bell of Homerville; one son, William Donald “Don” Tison, II of Homerville; one grandson, Tison Reese Bell of Homerville; his step-mother, Monette Allen Tison of Fargo; one sister, Susanne Tyson of Fargo; two brothers, Troy Tison of Huntsville, Ala. and Cecil Tison of Leesburg, Fla.; one step-sister and husband, Denise and Dr. Roger Huelsnitz of Homerivlle; one step-brother, Frank Allen of Fargo and several other relatives.
Services for Mr. Tison were held Tuesday, October 28, 2003, at four o’clock in the afternoon from the Homerville Congregational Methodist Church.
iIntermentwas in the Shiloh Church Cemetery.
Anyone who ever played football under Coach Tison will be considered honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers will be coaches who worked with Coach Tison.
Flowers were accepted or donations can be made to the Donald Tison Scholarship Fund, c/o Brian Brown, Peoples Bank, 115 E. Dame Ave., Homerville, Ga. 31634.

George Daniel Coombs
George Daniel Coombs, 84, passed away Friday, October 24, 2003, in the Shands of Jacksonville Hospital following an extended illness.
A native of Cook County, Ga., he had lived in Jacksonville for the past several years. He was a retired sawmill worker and was the son of the late Richard Daniel Coombs and Julie Boatright Coombs.
Survivors are nine daughters, Luvell Bennett of Millwood, Judy Bennett of Douglas, Alva Mason of Blackshear, Juanita Pittman of Fargo, Sue Gray of Waresboro, Helen Taylor of Kennesaw, Ga., Joann Rayburn of Jacksonville, Linda Cumnerford of Tifton, Mary Lundie of Ft. Waldon Beach, Fla.; one son, Roy Coombs of Millwood; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Coombs was held at three o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, October, 27, 2003, at the Indian Mound Baptist Church near Millwood.
iIntermentwas in Hargraves Chapel cemetery near Millwood.
Roundtree Funeral Home of Homerville was in charge of arrangements.

Winston S. Corbitt
Winston S. Corbitt, 68, died Monday morning October 20, 2003, at Clinch Healthcare in Homerville after an extended illness.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Manor. He served in the United States Army and was a member of Victory Methodist Church.
He was the son of the late Dan Corbitt and Virue Hewett Corbitt.
He is survived by three sisters, Myrtice Branch of Baldwin, Fla., Nell Johnson of Malvern, Ark. and Billy Faye Pittman and husband Ivey of Manor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2003, at Victory Methodist Church Cemetery.

Rebecca Sistrunk Register
Mrs. Rebecca Sistrunk Register, 79, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2003, in the Clinch Health Care, following an extended illness.
A native of Hamilton County, Fla., she had lived in Homerville most of her life, and was a retired short order cook. She was a member of the Church of God, Clinch Memorial Hospital Pink Ladies Auxiliary and the Sheriff’s Association. She was the widow of Pete Register and was the daughter of the late Remer Sistrunk and Susie Hunter Sistrunk. She was preceded in death by a brother, Claude Sistrunk, two sisters, Dasie Sutton and Jeanette Blitch.
Survivors are two sisters, Essie Padgett of Neptune Beach, Fla., and Mary Rewis of Fargo; several nieces, nephews and a number of other relatives.
Services for Mrs. Register were held Tuesday, October 21, 2003, at eleven o’clock from the chapel of Roundtree Funeral Home.
Officiating was Rev. Talmadge Guess.
iIntermentwas in Wayfare cemetery in Echols County.
Active pallbearers were Roland Sutton, Jr. Jessie Booth, Jeb Turner, Joey McLaine, Herbert Hendrix, and John Bennett.
W. G. Simth sang “Sweet By and By” and Talmadge Guess sang “Through The Upper Window”

Henry William Christopher
Henry William Christopher, 77, of Summerville, S. C. died Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at a Charleston Hospital.
Mr. Christopher was born September 30, 1926, in Homerville, a son of Henry Joseph Christopher and Inez Kight Christopher. He was a retired Civil Service employee. He was a member of the Summerville Presbyterian Church, a U. S. Navy Veteran of WWII, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and a member of George Miler County Club.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Tuten Christopher of Summerville; one son, Joseph William Christopher and wife, Karen of Summerville; one daughter, Shelly Christopher Baker and husband, Danny of Summerville; one brother Reva Christopher of Homerville; four grandchildren, Joshua Christopher, Leigh-Anne Christopher, Emily Baker and Julie Baker all of Summerville.
Memorial services were held at Summerville Presbyterian Church, Saturday, November 15, 2003, at 2 p.m. B
Burial was in White Church Cemetery.
Memorial can be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 592, Summerville, S. C. 29484.
Arrangements were by Parks Funeral Home, Inc. of Summerville, S. C.

Johnny Lee Holmes
Johnny Lee Holmes, 58, of Olive Hill, Ky, died Saturday, November 1, at King’s Daughters’ medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Holmes as born October 31, 1945 in Homerville, a son of the late Jack and Maeola Griffin Holmes.
He was the maintenance manager for Corbin LTD in Cannonsburg. He was a Vietnam Veteran, a member of Olive Hill Masonic Lodge 629, Elhasa Shrine Temple, and American Legion Post 138. He was of the Methodist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, David Earl Holmes; two sisters, Stella Mae Holmes and Clara Bell Holmes Pittman.
Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Martinez Holmes of Olive Hill; two daughters, Victoria Holmes Carroll and Darren of Olive Hill, Catherine Holmes Gilliam and Lovell “Bub” of Olive Hill; five sisters, Mary Ruth Hunter and Lawrence of Callahan, Fla., Sara Faye Burkett and Roy of Homerville, Jackie Bennett and Cliff of Homerville, Betty Jeqan Bennett and Henton of Jacksonville, Fla., and Martha Ann Booth and Lowell of Manor; two grandchildren, Vanessa Brooke Carroll and Hannah Grace Carroll; three special girls, Brittany, Kelsey and Allie Cox; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 3, at 1 p.m., at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home.
Officiating was Norman Carrico.
Burial followed in Olive Hill Memory Garden.
Oney-Henderson Funeral Home served the Holmes family.

Mary Alice Kirkland Johnson
Mrs. Mary Alice Kirkland Johnson of Mt. Vernon, Ga., died Wednesday, November 12, 2003, in St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville after a brief illness.
She was a native of Clinch County, moving to the Long Pond Community about 1984. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, John Johnson of Mr. Vernon, three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Bonnie Johnson of Orlando, Fla., Richard and Marilyn Johnson of Screven, Ga., John A. and Julie Johnson of Long Pond; two sisters, Lou Ellen Hartsfield of Orange Park, Fla., and Martha Helen Harmon of Homerville; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Alice Johnson were held Saturday, November 15, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Phillips and Rev. Frank Hendrix officiating.
iIntermentwas in Long Pond cemetery near Uvalda.
Murchison Funeral Home of Vidalia was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Elizabeth Pittman Mitchell
Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Pittman Mitchell, 76, passed away suddenly, Friday, November 7, 2003, in the Clinch Memorial Hospital.
A native of Clinch County she had lived in Florida and Michigan, before moving back to Homerville in 1983. She was a homemaker and a member of the Shiloh Southern Congregational Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late Travis Eard Pittman and Mae Estelle Mercer Pittman.
Survivors are her husband, Samuel C. Mitchell of Homerville; three sons, Sam Mitchell of Portland, Mich., Darrell Mitchell of Owosso, Mich. and Thomas Mitchell of Homerville; four sisters, Mary Ann Hill of Homerville, Nora Gilbert of Winter Haven, Fla., Bonnie Raciborski of Leslie, Mich. and Ginger Williams, Portland Mich.; one brother, Nelson Pittman of Waycross; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several other relatives.
Services for Mrs. Mitchell were held Monday, November 10, 2003, at eleven o’clock from the Shiloh Southern Congregational Methodist Church.
Officiating was Rev. Keith Chauncey.
iIntermentwas in Shiloh Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Damon Chauncey, Tony Mikell, Elvin Floyd, Deanie Pittman, Donnie Webb, David Hill and Raymond Strickland.
Honorary pallbearers were the men of Shiloh Southern Congregational Methodist Church.
Wanda Adams sang “Serenaded By Angels”, Jimmy and Evelyn Wilson and Lou Strickland sang “Heavenly Home” and W. G. Smith sang “Beulah Land”.
Roundtree Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jeremiah King Giffin
Jeremiah King Giffin, 23, of Hahira died Saturday, November 8, 2003, at Keaton Beach, Fla.
He was born in Valdosta on May 5, 1980 to Irvena King Giffin and the late Jerry Giffin. Jeremiah graduated from Hamilton County High School in Jasper, Fla. and loved playing sports. He was employed with Tom Hutchinson Construction and a member of the Hahira First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, the late Inez King.
Survivors include his mother, Irvena K. Giffin of Homerville; his brother, Josh Giffin of Hahira, stepfather, Don Colombaroni of Lake City, Fla.; maternal grandfather, Woodrow King of Homerville, several aunts, uncles, cousins and other loving friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at Hahira First Baptist Church with Rev. David Gordon Officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at church. A visitation will be held Wednesday, from 5:30-7p.m. at Roundtree Funeral Home in Homerville.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the Friends Fund at Peoples Bank in Homerville to be used for boating safety education.

Larry Fane Dampier
Larry Fane Dampier, 59, of Valdosta died Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at his home.
He was born on January 21, 1945 in Clinch County to Fannie Bell Knowles Dampier and the late Adolph Dampier, and had lived in Valdosta most of his life. Mr. Dampier was a member of the Forrest Street Church of God and retired from Norfolk Southern Railway as an engineer. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Wills.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Dampier of Valdosta; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Hannah Dampier, Reena and Bryan Bailey of Valdosta, Susan and Robert Doyle of Douglas; two sons Eric Dampier and Mark Fussell both of Valdosta; two granddaughters, Lindsay Bailey and Savannah Bailey both of Valdosta; two grandsons, Caleb Doyle and Jessie Doyle both of Douglas; his mother, Fannie Bell Dampier of Valdosta; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Latrelle and Vince Paulhoff of Madison, Fla. and Vickie and Bobby Moore of Valdosta; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, LaThad and Mary Dampier, Maitland and Jeannie Dampier all of Jacksonville, Fla., and Gary Dampier of Valdosta; his mother-in-law, Orene Mosley of Valdosta; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2004, at the Forrest Street Church of God with the Rev. Wayne Hughes and Rev. Jerry Greer officiating.
Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
