Ronald ‘Ronnie’ Spires
Services for Ronald “Ronnie” Spires of Milan were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in the Red Hill Holiness Church Cemetery.
The Rev. Dan Jones officiated.
Spires, 57, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at the Dodge County Hospital. He was the son of the late Jerry and Mary Lou Selph Spires and was married to Linda Gay Spires of Milan.
He was a native of Telfair County and was self employed.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Lisa Smith, Jerry Spires and Vickie Spires, all of Milan; eight brothers and sisters; and six grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Rachel Saunders Brooks
Services for Rachel Saunders Brooks of Helena were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 28 at Helena Baptist Church with interment in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
The Rev. Barry Owens officiated. Soloist Marcia Clark and pianist Mrs. Jerry Stapleton of Alamo provided the music.
Family received friends at Lowe’s Funeral Home from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 27.
Brooks, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Henry Clay and Vallie Carter Saunders and was the widow of Stanley Walters Brooks. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Jeanette Ryals and Rexie Dennis and grandchild, Brooks Lane Strickland.
She spent most of her life in Helena, where she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Although she was active in many community activities, her commitment was to Helena Baptist Church where she worshiped with her family and led in many mission organizations. Through the years she loved opening her home to visiting ministers and missionaries, whose influence made many lasting impressions and happy memories.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Brooks Tracht of Sarasota, Fla., Vicki Brooks Strickland and her husband Dick of McRae; grandchildren, Stanley Garry Tracht, Carter Brooks Tracht, Tinsley Leah Tracht, all of Dallas, Texas and Rhett Lane Strickland of Warner Robins; great-grandchildren, Rhett Strickland, Ashlan Strickland and Stanley Harrison Tracht; nephews, Jack and Patricia Dennis of Milledgeville, Allen and Peggy Ryals of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Sandy and Hazel Dennis of Milledgeville; nieces, Michaela Hadlow of DeBarry, Fla. and Deborah Ryals of Cocoa Beach, Fla.
Active pallbearers were Carter Brooks Tracht, Stanley Garry Tracht, Rhett Lane Strickland, L. Jack Dennis, Rex Sandy Dennis, Elton Don Brooks, Allen Clay Ryals, Brooks Jessup, William K. Brooks, Lloyd Leggett, Richard L. Strickland and Earl Brice.
Donations may be made to Appalachia Service Project, 4523 Bristol Highway, Johnson City, Tenn., 37601-2937 or to the Moody Bible Institute, 820 North LaSalle Blvd., Chicago, Ill. 60610.

Sandra Clarke
Graveside services for Sandra Clarke of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 26 in the Milan Cemetery.
The Rev. Steve Waldorf officiated.
Clarke, died Saturday, July 24, 2004 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. She was the daughter of the late John David and Margaret Beck Clarke. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Clarke.
She was a native of Telfair County, a member of Helena United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her children, Dave Clarida and John Clarke Byrd, both of McRae; sister-in-law, Brenda Clarke of McRae; nieces, Keely and Haley Clarke, both of McRae.
Donations may be made to the Helena United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 356, Helena, 31037.
Monroe County Memorial Chapel of Forsyth was in charge of arrangements.

Eldis W. Dowdy
Services for Eldis W. Dowdy of Abbeville were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 21 in the Hopewell Baptist Church in Dodge County with interment in the Sandgrove Cemetery in Dodge County.
The Rev. Jim Faircloth and the Rev. David Fisher officiated.
Dowdy, 81, died Sunday, July 18, 2004 in the Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville. She was the daughter of the late Stanley Whittington and Bessie Mae Reeves Whittington and was the widow of Walter Dowdy. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Judy Dowdy and granddaughter, Lorrie Dowdy.
She was a native of Telfair County but had resided in Abbeville since 1961. She was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Hez Dowdy of Milan, Earl Dowdy of Abbeville and Tobe “Buddy” Dowdy of Eastman; daughter, Elese Jones of Milan; brother, James Whittington of Dublin; sisters, Myrtice Shremshock and Myrtle Butler, both of Warner Robins, Bessie Mae Whittington of Dublin; step-sister, Shirley Ussery of Milan; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Frazier & Son Funeral Home of Rochelle was in charge of arrangements.

Emma L. Hicks
Services for Emma L. Hicks of Lumber City were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 26 at Full Gospel Church of God in Lumber City with interment in the Green Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Rev. William Hollis officiated.
Hicks, 75, died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at the Fairview Park Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Floyd Tomblin and Lula Mae Tomblin and was married to Aaron Hicks of Lumber City.
She was a member and the church mother of the Full Gospel Church of God Written in Heaven of Lumber City serving under the leadership of Bishop and Elect Lady Hollis.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Nancy Conaway of Knoxville, Tenn., Claretha Jordan of Warner Robins, Aaron Hicks and Carl Hicks, both of Lumber City, Shirley McRae and Carolyn White, both of Hazlehurst, Irwin Hicks of Jacksonville, Fla. and Jerry Hicks of Atlanta; brothers, Floyd Tomblin of Paineville, Ohio and Arthur Tomblin of Reidsville; sister, Nancy Durden of Paineville, Ohio; 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Moon Parrish
Services for Lillian Moon Parrish of Orange Park, Fla. were held in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home in Helena with interment in the Sugar Creek Methodist Church Cemetery in Chauncey.
The Rev. Ronnie Moore officiated.
Parrish, 82, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at the Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, Fla. She loved to garden and spend time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe E. Moon and W.D. Parrish; daughter, Rosa Lee Moon Crab and grandson, Jimmy Holbrook.
Survivors include her daughter, Emma Sue Metcalf; granddaughters, Sue Ann Metcalf, Kim Myers and Leslie Hall; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Marie McKinney
Services for Marie McKinney of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21 at Rockhill CME Church of Jacksonville with interment in the church cemetery.
Eulogist Iris Myles officiated.
McKinney, 47, died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at the Telfair Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Ocie and Pearl McKinney.
She was a native of Richmond County but had resided in Telfair County most of her life. She was a graduate of Telfair County High School and was a faithful member of Rockhill C.M.E. Church until her mother’s health failed and she moved away. She continued her faith and worship with her family at New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sisters, Rowena Wilcox of New Jersey and Ruthie Mae Hudson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brothers, Macarthur Wilcox of Wilcox County and Frank McKinney of Jacksonville, Ga. and aunt, Mamie McMillian.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Bertha Lucille Burns Dollar
Services for Bertha Lucille Burns Dollar were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 15 at Centilla Missionary Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. William Jackson officiated.
Dollar, 85, died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at the Dodge County Hospital. She was the daughter of the late James Dargan Burns and Julia R. Sanders Burns.
She was a native of Sumter, S.C. and was an educator in the Telfair County School system for over 30 years.
Survivors include her adopted sons, Robert Taylor Sr., James Lewis and Tommy McCloud, all of McRae; brother, Dargan J. Burns II of Cleveland, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

John Michael Hogue
Services for John Michael Hogue of Alamo were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 17 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in the Alamo City Cemetery.
The Rev. Steve Frazier officiated.
Hogue, 35, died Thursday, July 15, 2004 from injuries sustained from an automobile accident in Wheeler County. He was the son of the late Joanne Marie Hogue and was married to Rachel Anne Zoerb Hogue.
He was a native of Washington, D.C. and was a sergeant at Telfair State Prison.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Jessica and Jagger Hogue, both of Alamo; and several aunts and uncles.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
