Elfreeda P. Godding

Elfreeda Purcell Godding, 80, died Monday, August 13, 2001, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton after a long illness.

The Tattnall County native was a retired employee of the U.S. Pentagon in Washington, D.C. She was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Joyce Isbell of Northern Ireland; three granddaughters: Colleen, Kirsten, and Nicola Isbel; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 16, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Keith Rustin officiating.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 16, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel. Burial will be private.

Remembrances can be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Savannah.

Harold D. Dasher

Harold D. Dasher, 78, died Wednesday, October 17, 2001, at his residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. He was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County. He was owner of Dasher and Son Construction Company, and formerly owned Dasher Building Supply. He was a member of the Vidalia Sweet Onion Association, and a World War II veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Miriam Dasher of Glennville, Georgia; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Kay and Bob Connell of Rome; Melba Gardner of Savannah; and Sandra and Lee Howard of Glennville; one son and daughter-in-law, Hal and Renna Dasher of Glennville; one sister, Irene Durrence of Claxton; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 19, at 3 p.m. at Love's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder W. H. Durrence officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Wayne Durrence, Michael Dasher, Edward Dasher, Ronnie Dasher, Dane Dasher, Terry Dasher, Gene Dasher, and Bill Causey.

Cobb Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth E. Eaby

Ruth E. Eaby, 88, died Sunday, October 21, 2001, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, Georgia. The Delaware native had lived in Glennville, Georgia, for the past ten years. She was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene Eaby of Glennville; one daughter, Ruth Peacock of Glennville; four sons and daughters-in-law: Eugene Eaby, Jr., and Nancy Eaby of Joppa Towne, Maryland; Curtis and Joyce Eaby of Maggie Valley, North Carolina; Robert and Kathy Eaby of La Plata, Maryland; and Alan and Judy Eaby of Ormond Beach, Florida; one sister, Anna Martelli of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 25, at 11 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Scott Mancel officiating. iIntermentwill follow at Glennville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 24, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home in Glennville.

Remembrances can be made to the Methodist Children's Home in Macon, Georgia.

Velma B. Love-Faircloth

Velma B. Love-Faircloth, 75, died Saturday, October 20, 2001, at Hospice in Savannah, Georgia, after a brief illness. The Tattnall County native was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church, and was a child care provider for 20 years.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Steve Browning of Savannah; two sons and daughters-in-law, Victor and Jon Ann Love of Claxton, Georgia, and Keith and Leslie Love of Glennville, Georgia; a sister, Edna Cornell of Savannah; a brother and sister-in-law, Nollie and Earlene Holland of Statesboro, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Angell Beach, Lani Love, Russell Love, Elizabeth Love, Glynn Stivender, Kelly Stivender, and Rebecca Stivender; and several cousins.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 22, at 2 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Keith Rustin. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Henry O'Neal, Brian Nall, Paul Dutton, Jessie Durrence, Jimmy Durrence, and Bobby O'Neal.

Gail E. DeLoach

Gail E. DeLoach, 61, died Friday, December 14, 2001, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, Georgia. The Gainesville, Florida, native had lived in Glennville for the past 20 years. She was a retired Civil Service computer programmer.

She is survived by her husband, Bill DeLoach of Glennville, Georgia; one son, Glen Patterson of Marion, Arkansas; one stepdaughter, Debbie Tuten of Peachtree City; one sister, Celeste Crowe of Gainesville; one brother, Deral Smith of Cocoa Beach, Florida; two mothers in-law, Fannie Kate Patterson and Grace DeLoach, both of Glennville; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 17, at Cobb Funeral Home in Glennville, with Glen Patterson officiating. Burial was private.

Juanita T. Weathers

Juanita Tootle Weathers, 70, died Wednesday, December 12, 2001, at Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville, Georgia, all of her life. She was a former Civil Service employee, a homemaker, and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, French Weathers; a son and daughter-in-law, Martin and Karen Weathers of Jesup, Georgia; three brothers: J. Clyde Tootle of Glennville; L. C. Tootle of Lyons, Georgia; and Joe Tootle of Groveland, Florida; four sisters: Katie Ruth Tootle and Willie Mae Tootle, both of Glennville; Dora Jane Kemp of Groveland, Florida; and Carsie Tootle of Savannah; two grandchildren, Brandon Weathers and Lauren Weathers of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 15, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Morgan officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Greg Brown, Steve Rush, Mike Wilson, Mitchell Griner, Tony Carr, and Allen Bergdoll.

Julian E. Dutton

Julian E. Dutton, 79, died Tuesday, December 11, 2001, at Glenvue Nursing Home. He was born June 7, 1922, in Glennville, Georgia. He was retired from Glenvue Nursing Home where he served many years as administrator. He was a former Glennville City Councilman, former Chairman of the Tattnall County Board of Education, and served on the Tattnall County Democratic Executive Committee for many years. He loved outdoor activities, growing flowers and plants. He was a member of Philadelphia Lodge #73 and American Legion Post #95 for more than 50 years. He was a veteran of World War II, and a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Pearce Dutton.

He is survived by his wife of ten years, Miriam W. Dutton of Glennville; a daughter, Sandra Dutton Drake of Savannah, Georgia; three sons and daughters-in-law: Gene and Mattie Bell Dutton, Dale and Debbie Dutton, and Lester and Darlene Dutton, all of Glennville; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Sammy and Wendy Kicklighter of Guyton and Warren and Christine Dasher of Glennville; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Jill and John Hardwick of St. Simons Island; two sisters, Billie K. Rewis of Reidsville and Emma Jean Dasher of Glennville; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 14, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville, with the Rev. Van Power and the Rev. Wilford Harden officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jerry Dutton, Kevin Dutton, David Dutton, Dr. Byron Dasher, Paul Dutton, Tracy Tripp, and Clayton Dutton.

Remembrances may be made to the Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, Rt. 2, 1595, Glennville, Georgia 30427.

David Griner

David Arthur Griner, 44, of Rincon, Georgia, and formerly of Savannah, Georgia, died Thursday, January 24, 2002, at Hospice Savannah. He was born in Savannah, Georgia, and was a member of Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church, and was a former member of Taliaferro Baptist Church. He was a member of the Men's Fellowship, and operated the projection system at the church. He had served as a coach for a Little League baseball team, and was a Boy Scout Leader. He was an employee of Gulfstream, having served as a Manufacturing Engineer Liaison for the past 25 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Misty Griner of Rincon; three sons: David Griner, Dale Griner, and Jimmie Griner; his parents, Philip and Eloise Griner of Lyons, Georgia; and a brother and sister-in-law, Barry and Leigh Griner of Savannah.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 26, in the Chapel of the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Mose Toole officiating. iIntermentfollowed at 4:30 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church cemetery in Toombs County, Georgia, with the Rev. James Wilcox officiating.

Pallbearers were Greg Berger, Ron Aldridge, Dean Cela, Lee Dasher, Mark Winnai, and Carl Flathman.

Remembrances can be made to Hospice Savannah, 1352 Eisenhower Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406, or Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church, P. O. Box 436, Rincon, Georgia 31326.

Ethel Osteen

Ethel Hallman Osteen, 90, of Collins, Georgia, formerly of Glennville, Georgia, died Wednesday, January 23, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. The Appling County native was the oldest member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Rufus Hallman and Howard Osteen.

She is survived by five daughters and four sons-in-law: Onetha and Julien Mingledorff, Joan and Ralph Stafford, and Maxine Turner, all of Collins; Wanda and Jimmy Gilmer of Savannah; and Dottie and Clay Brooks of Buford; one son and daughter-in-law, Theron and Linda Hallman of Glennville; three sisters: Lucille Davis, Elizabeth Crosby, and Lorene Wood, all of Baxley, Georgia; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 25, at 11 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Posey officiating. Burial was in Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons.

Daniel J. Lakly
Fayette State Representative Daniel J. Lakly of Peachtree City, GA passed away October 29, 2007. Mr. Lakly served Fayette County as Representative of District 72. He was born August 8, 1942 in Forest Hills, PA. He joined the U. S. Navy in 1959 where he served aboard the USS Howard D. Crow. He was stationed outside Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was discharged in 1963 and served in the Merchant Marine. Dan looked up his childhood sweetheart and married Donna Lee in 1967. He lived in Pittsburgh, PA Cleveland, OH Warrensville Heights, OH, Philadelphia, PA, Honolulu, HI before settling in Peachtree City in 1978 where he loved his gardens. Dan won his first City Counsil seat in 1986 in Peachtree City where he served until 1987. He served on the Fayette County Commission from 1988 until 1992. He served as State Representative from 1992 until 1998 and again 2004 until present. He has run over a dozen campaigns, often doing everything himself and with the help of his family. Dan was a dedicated public servant, always wanting to better his community thru service in Kiwanis, the VFW and American Legion. A fiery speaker, he never passed up a chance to go to the well, and never spoke with notes but stright from the heart.

Mr. Lakly is survived by his wife of 40 years, Donna Lee Lakly of Peachtree City; sons, whom he was most proud of, Daniel Steven Lakly of Decatur, David Lee Lakly of Peachtree City, Donald Joseph Lakly of Athens; his grandsons seemed to mellow his temperament, Connor James Lakly, John Michael Lakly, Benjamin John Lakly, Andrew Robert Lakly; siblings, Caroline Kuchar of Pittsburgh, PA, Helen Marie Schlabach of Phoenix, AZ, George Matthew Lakly, Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA, Mary Jane Green of Phoenix, AZ, Timothy Raymond Lakly of Tampa, FL; nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held Friday Nov. 2 at 10 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Michael Kingery officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home between the hours of 6 and 9 PM Thursday with a Christian Wake service at 8:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family request, contributions be made to the Building Fund at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 101 Walt Banks Road, Peachtree City, GA 30269.

Lucy Stizza-Gionta
Mrs. Lucy Stizza-Gionta, age 94, of Peachtree City, formerly of McAlester, OK, passed away October 27, 2007. She is preceded in death by her son, Major John B. Stizza, who was killed in Viet Nam. She is survived by her grandchildren, Col. John G. and Carole Stizza of Fairfax, VA, Jack H. and Cindi Polo of Peachtree City; great grandchildren, John E. Stizza and Colleen Stizza, Kelly Polo and Jack B. Polo; daughter-in-law, Sue Stizza of Peachtree City; sister, Jean Lee of Krebs, McAlester, OK. Funeral services will be held Monday Nov. 5 at 11 AM in the chapel of Chaney-Harkins Funeral home in McAlester, OK. iIntermentwill follow at Oak Hill cemetery in McAlester, OK. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice, 1585 Hwy 34 East, Newnan, GA 30265. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City.
