Kathleen Pruett Goings
Services for Kathleen Pruett Goings of Milan, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30 in El Bethel Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Wayne Cobb officiated.
Goings, 76, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004 in the Dodge County Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Oscar Pruett and Alice Swearingen Pruett and was the widow of Sam Brown and Bill Goings. She was preceded in death by a brother, Mick Pruett.
She was a native of Dodge County and a member of El Bethel Baptist Church. She was a retired civil service secretary of the Warner Robins Air Force Base.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Gunter of Macon; nephew, Mike Pruett of Eastman; great nephew, Mickey Pruett; great niece, Kelli Erwin and great-great niece, Kylie Erwin.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.

Charles Wendell Melvin
Services for Charles Wendell Melvin of Milan, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29 in Milan Baptist Church with interment in the Sand Grove Cemetery.
Dr. Myron Lane, the Rev. Raymond Dunn and the Rev. Wayne Cobb officiated.
Melvin, 67, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004 in the Coliseum Medical Center in Macon. He was the son of the late Charlie Melvin and Lucille Berry Melvin and was married to Judy Moore Melvin of Milan.
He was a native of Dodge County and was a retired employee of Moore Distributing Company and the Telfair County ASCS office. He was a member and deacon of Milan Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Wendy Howard of Savannah; sons, Charles Melvin of Dudley and Harris Melvin of Buford; sister, Susan Jones and four grandchildren.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Bowen Kennedy
Services for Evelyn Bowen Kennedy of Rhine, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26 in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with interment in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
The Rev. Larry Thompson and the Rev. Bill Jones officiated.
Kennedy, 85, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late John Thomas Bowen and Susan Conley Bowen and was the widow of Jim Dock Kennedy. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Kennedy.
She was a lifelong resident of Dodge County and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was a retired civil service employee of Warner Robins Air Force Base.
Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Jones of Junction City, Joyce Sheffield and Dorothy Scott, both of Rhine, Susan Johnson of Parrish, Fla., and Eunice Kennedy of Cordele; son, Farrell Kennedy of Ft. Valley; sister, Emma Dean McDuffie of Rhine; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.

Carlton Sidwell
Services for Carlton Sidwell of Fitzgerald, were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1 at Arbor Baptist Church with interment in the Evergreen Cemetery.
The Rev. Duane Fernandez, Dr. Lloyd Stembridge and the Rev. Brent Duncan officiated.
Sidwell, 73, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004 at his residence. He was the son of the late Edgar B. and Linnie Connell Sidwell and was married to Barbara Sidwell of Fitzgerald. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Lou Sidwell.
He was a native of Ben Hill County, a retired locomotive engineer with CSX Railroad and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was a lifelong member and deacon of Arbor Baptist Church, a member of the Charity Sunday School class, a former Sunday school teacher and a R.A. leader. He served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the American Legion.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Eddie Sidwell of Fitzgerald; daughter, Cindy Cowart of Fitzgerald; step-daughters, Angela Kinnett of McRae, Julie Swain of Leesburg and Cheryl Cooper of Camilla; brother, Clay Sidwell of Elijay; sisters, Carolyn Foxworthy of Buford and Betty Gentry of Chula; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

James Randall Wright
Services for James Randall “Randy” Wright of Tybee Island, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 in Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home Chapel in Eastman with interment in Lovely Grove Cemetery.
Bobby Ryals will officiate.
Wright, 44, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004 at his residence in Tybee Island. He was the son of John J. Wright of Milan and the late Betty McCullough Wright.
He was a native of Houston County and was a former employee of Recreational Factory Warehouse.
In addition to his father, survivors include his daughter, Amanda Wright of Eastman; sister, Wanda Hawn of Eastman; brother, Gregory Wright of Milledgeville; paternal grandmother, Ina L. Wright and two grandsons.

Elizabeth ‘Penny’ Dykes
Graveside services for Elizabeth “Penny” Dykes of McRae, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31 in the Dodge’s Chapel Cemetery.
The Rev. Bill Jones officiated.
Dykes, 89, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Ruth Beasley Sheppard and was the widow of Charlie Dykes. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Effie Purvis and grandson, Ray Burch.
She was a native of Wheeler County, a member of Faith Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Burch of McRae; brother, W.D. Sheppard of Towns; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Vaughn Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Lillie Peppers Grant
Services for Lillie Peppers Grant of Helena were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20 at Bride Church of Jesus of Helena with interment in the New Olive Grove Baptist Church Cemetery of South Carolina.
The Rev. Wilbur Grant officiated.
Grant, 57, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004 at the Telfair Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of Cleola Peppers and the late James Paul Peppers Sr. and was married to the Rev. Wilbur Grant.
She was a native of Union County, S.C. and was a retired Telfair County School System educator.
In addition to her husband and mother, survivors include her children, Kianna Wynn of Phenix City, Ala. and Kenneth Brown of Union, S.C.; brother, James Paul Peppers Jr. of Columbia, S.C.; and granddaughter, Ashtyn Pilar Wynn.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Sarah Maude Batchelor Harrington
Services for Sarah Maude Batchelor Harrington of Brunswick were held at 10 a.m. Friday, in the chapel of the Edo Miller and Sons Funeral in Brunswick with interment held at 4 p.m. in the Sand Hill Baptist Churchyard in Telfair County.
The Rev. Sheldon Chapman officiated.
Harrington, 93, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004 in the Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick. She was the daughter of the late William Henry Batchelor and Mamie Lee Cameron and was the widow of J.W. Harrington.
She was a native of Workmore and had been a resident of Glynn County for the past 58 years. She was a graduate of Workmore High School and received her nursing degree from Macon Hospital School of Nursing.
She was employed with the Glynn Co. and Camden Co. Health Department and retired from Brunswick Pulp and Paper Company. She was a member of the Open Bible Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Ted (Candi) Harrington of Brunswick; grandchildren, Robbie Harrington and Jimmy Brown, both of Hortense, Melissa Pelkey of Savannah; and six great-grandchildren.
Contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, 31525 or to the American Cancer Society.
Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home of Brunswick was in charge of arrangements.

Clina Mae Johnson
Services for Clina Mae Johnson of Scotland were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in Telfair Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. Sherwin Bell officiated.
Johnson, 81, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, in the Brian Center Nursing Home in Lumber City. She was the daughter of the late Eugene and Claire M. Livingston Pollard and was the widow of Joe B. Johnson.
She was a native of Dodge County but had resided in Telfair County most of her life. She was a member of Scotland Baptist Church and was a retired seamstress at Roydon Wear.
Survivors include her children, Roger Johnson of McRae, Larry Johnson of Fitzgerald, Eva Crawford of Alamo and Connie Grier of Valdosta; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
