Norman C. Troup
Services for Norman C. Troup of Glenwood were held at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2 at Starlight Baptist Church of Glenwood with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Smith officiated.
Troup, 85, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at his residence. He was the son of the late John D. Troup and Georgia Daniels Troup and was the widower of Cora Lee Balkcom.
He was a native of Wheeler County and was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his four sons, Gary Troup of Hazlehurst, Earl Troup of McDonough, Norman Vincent Troup of Vidalia and Sgt. Terry Troup of New Jersey; brothers, Braiford Troup of Jacksonville, Fla., and Cantrell Troup of Alamo; sister, Sarah Bess of Glenwood; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Willie Tillman Gillis
Services for Willie Tillman Gillis of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in the Turnpike Cemetery.
The Rev. Charles Vaughn and the Rev. Terry Ault officiated.
Gillis, 83, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004 at Telfair Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late Clarence Tillman and Rosa Lee Ray Gillis and was married to Ellen McPherson Gillis of McRae.
He was a native of Telfair County and was a farmer.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Rosa Lee Dirrigle of Raleigh, N.C., Jeffery T. Gillis of Springfield, Mo., Wendell Mark Gillis, Willie Edward Gillis, Stanley Mack Gillis, all of Bradenton, Fla., Vanessa Gillis, Mary Ann Evans and Sue Ellen Gillis, all of McRae; sisters, Louise Godfrey of Bradenton, Fla., Catherine Anderson of McRae and Ruby Smith of Vidalia; brothers, James Gillis of McRae and Charles Gillis of Jacksonville; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Esther Lou ‘Kitty’ Stewart Burns
Services for Esther Lou “Kitty” Stewart Burns of McRae were held at noon Saturday, July 31 at New Shiloh Baptist Church of McRae with interment in the Pine Acres Cemetery.
The Rev. Winfred McCloud officiated.
Burns, 74, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Elmo Stewart Sr. and Jennie Batten Stewart and was married to Lawrence C. Burns of McRae.
She was a native of Willachoochee, a faithful member of New Shiloh Baptist Church and was retired.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Terry Wiggins, Oscar Wiggins Jr., Ruby Parker, Paul Wiggins, Pauline Everett and Beverly Cook; brothers, Jake Stewart and Horace Williams; sister, Lou Ethel Scales; six step-children; 19 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

David M. Billing
Services for David M. Billing of Armuchee were held at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2 in the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with interment in the St. John Mausoleum of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The Honor Guard of Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion performed full military rites.
The Rev.Jay Greener and the Rev. Michael Dunbar officiated.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced in the McRae United Methodist Church.
Billing, 77, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at his home. He was the son of late Hilding Billing and Hildegard Perrson Billing and was married to Vivian Coalson Billing. He was also preceded in death by his twin brother,Hank Billing.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., he spent his youth and young adult life in Southhampton,N.Y., graduating from Southhampton High School in 1944 as valedictorian. He attended Virginia Military Institute in 1944 and graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1949.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1944-1946 in the Army Signal Corp. From 1949-1952, he was consultant engineer with Kurt Salmon Associates,Inc., before becoming Vice-President for Manufacturing with Roydon Wear, Inc. in McRae. He retired in 1992 with 40 years service to the Company. In 1996, he and his wife moved to Rome, Ga. to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
He was very active member of the McRae United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years. For the past seven years, he had been a faithful servant of the Lord at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, Rome. He served on the Board of Directors for Security State Bank in McRae and Farmers State Bank in Dublin. He also was very active in civic organizations in McRae, being President of the Rotary Club, the Lions Club and Jaycees and chairman of the Telfair County Hospital Authority for eight years. His hobbies included building and repairing things for others, working in the yard, but most of all spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved following his children and grandchildren’s school and sporting activities.
In addition to his wife, survivors include daughters, Elaine Cooper of Rome, Lynn Boger of Woodstock and Diana Billing of Atlanta; sister Elsa Drake of Rome and six grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to McRae United Methodist Church, McRae, Ga. 31055, to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 1818 Kingston Rd., Rome, Ga. 30161 or Heyman Hospice Care, P.O. Box 163, Rome, Ga. 30162.
Oaknall Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home of Rome was in charge of arrangements.

Ronald ‘Ronnie’ Spires
Services for Ronald “Ronnie” Spires of Milan were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in the Red Hill Holiness Church Cemetery.
The Rev. Dan Jones officiated.
Spires, 57, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at the Dodge County Hospital. He was the son of the late Jerry and Mary Lou Selph Spires and was married to Linda Gay Spires of Milan.
He was a native of Telfair County and was self employed.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Lisa Smith, Jerry Spires and Vickie Spires, all of Milan; eight brothers and sisters; and six grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Larry ‘Cotton’ Bellflower
Services for Larry “Cotton” Bellflower of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn. were held at noon Saturday, Sept. 11 at Wann Funeral Home in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Rev. James Chant and the Rev. Faye Harmon officiated.
Bellflower, 57, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004 at Northpark Hospital in Hampton County. He was the son of the late Johnny and Mildred Bellflower and was married to Betsy Bellflower.
He was a native of McRae and was employed with the U.S. Express. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving three tours of duty in Vietnam.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Christie Bellflower of Lafayette, Susan Alkire of Old Fort, N.C., Blaine Marter of Soddy-Daisy and Russell Marter of Chickamauga; sister, Linda Garrett of Chickamauga; and seven grandchildren.
Wann Funeral Home of Chattanooga, Tenn. was in charge of arrangements.

Ruby F. Browning
Services for Ruby F. Browning of Lilburn, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7 in the chapel of Fisher Funeral Home with interment in the Bowers Cemetery in Dodge County.
The Rev. Tim Lamb officiated.
Browning, 83, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004 at the Lilburn Health and Rehab Center. She was the daughter of the late Rufus and Essie Darsey Floyd.
She was a native of Bleckley County and was a resident of Helena for many years. She was a retired salesperson and homemaker.
Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Harris of Dawsonville and Frances Eberhart of Hiawassee; sisters, Estelle Dennis of Helena, Minnie Braddy of Cochran and Josephine Babb of Cartersville; brothers, Willie Floyd of Stockbridge and Albert Floyd of Milner; and two grandchildren.
Fisher Funeral Home of Cochran was in charge of arrangements.

Lois Kinchen Curtis
Services for Lois Kinchen Curtis of Milan, were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in the Milan Cemetery.
The Rev. Raymond Dunn and the Rev. Wayne Cobb officiated.
Curtis, 87, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Leila Yarbough Kinchen and the widow of Waymon Edward Curtis.
Born in Dodge County, she was retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
Survivors include nephews and nieces, John R.S. Jones of Milledgeville, Ray Jones of Macon, Irene Garrett of Macon, Ralph Yawn of Eastman, Inez Yancey of Rhine, Mary Ann Cobb of Atlanta and Joe Charles Kinchen of Milan; one brother-in law; two sisters-in-law and several great-nieces and nephews.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Emma Lou James Harvey
Services for Emma Lou James Harvey of Alamo, were held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at Spaulding Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Alamo with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Marvin Blue and the Rev. Larry Harvey officiated.
Harvey, 85, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late John and Laura James and was the widow of Grant Harvey Sr. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Climmie L. Turner and a granddaughter, Vennica Harvey.
Survivors include her sons, Grant W. Harvey Jr., Cornelius Harvey, Ira Harvey, and Jessie L. Harvey, all of Alamo; daughters, Inez Turner, Inezer Chatman and Vassie Worthing, all of Alamo; sisters, Aretha Ryals of Dublin and Bessie Boyd of Detroit, Mich.; 24 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
