Edna Posey Ellington, 88, of Lilburn, died at Emory Eastside Medical Center in Snellville Saturday, March 13, 2004. She was born Monday, June 28, 1915 in Crisp County and was the daughter of the late John Arthur Posey and Mary Ida Gladin Posey. She was a homemaker. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at 11:00 a.m., with interment to follow at Zion Hope Cemetery. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jo and John Stubblefield of Lilburn; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Earlie E. and Emida Posey and James and Mary Posey, all of Cordele and Frankie and Ola Mae Posey of Arabi; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mertie and John Pettis of Cordele and Geneva and Tom Gregory of Forest Park; two granddaughters, Susan and Tim Jacobs of Birmingham, Ala. and Nancy and Greg Rohling of Douglasville; three grandsons, John Stubblefield IV of Douglasville, Mark and Holly Stubblefield of Birmingham, Ala. and Cpl. James N. Stubblefield, USMC of Hawaii and 15 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hardy Eugene "Gene" Ellington, two brothers, Edison Posey and John Posey and a sister, Clifford Greene. The family is meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frankie Posey at 4195 Bedgood Avenue in Arabi. Sara Woodward Coffee
Sara Woodward Coffee, 70, of Cordele died at Crisp Regional Hospital Wednesday, April 28, 2004. She was born on Monday, August 28, 1933 in Cordele. Mrs. Coffee was the daughter of the late Birl Barker and Bessie Mae Wright Barker and the widow of Spencer Coffee. She was retired from Cordele Uniform Company as a seamstress and a member of Morningside Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services Friday, April 30, 2004 at 11:00 AM. Rev. George Nelson will officiate the service. iIntermentwill follow at Sunnyside cemetery in Cordele. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Cindy Woodward Olds and Emory Olds and Lisa Woodward Thompson and James Thompson, Jr., all of Cordele; a brother, Jackson Barker of Cordele; a sister, Mary Jo Coleman of Warner Robins; two granddaughters, Laura Olds and Elizabeth Thompson, both of Cordele; and a grandson, Evan Thompson of Cordele. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin F. Woodward. William H. Hubbard
William H. Hubbard, 99, of Valdosta, and formerly of Cordele, died at Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany Wednesday, July 21, 2004 of complications following an auto accident. Born Sunday, June 4, 1905 in Colquitt County, he was the son of the late John Hubbard and Elizabeth Fulghum Hubbard. He attended Benevalance Baptist Church in Valdosta. Mr. Hubbard was the former owner of Hubbards Junk Yard in Cordele. Funeral services will be held at Rainey Family Funeral Services, Inc. Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 2:00 p.m., with interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Cordele. He is survived by his wife, Jessie Hubbard of Valdosta; two daughters, Nell Charland of Columbus and Doris Newton of Lagrange; a son, Ted Hubbard of Cordele; two step-daughters, Faye Newton of Valdosta and Beverely Buie of Victoria, Texas; a step-son, Jerry Cherry of Coldspring, Texas; a brother, Raymond Hubbard of Dover, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Rev. James Howard Hubbard and a sister and brother, Irene Little and Albert Hubbard. The family will receive friends at Rainey Family Funeral Services, Inc. William "Bill" Leggett
William "Bill" Leggett, 74, of
Lake Blackshear died at his residence Thursday, September 30, 2004. He was born Tuesday, September 9, 1930, in Fairmont, N.C. and was the son of the late Ida Lamb Leggett and Glyn Leggett. He was a retired Regional Manager for Georgia Pacific Resin Division. Mr. Leggett was a veteran and had served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. A memorial service will be held at Rainey Family Funeral Services, Inc. Sunday, October 3, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Americus, P.O. Box 1434, Americus, Ga. 31709. He is survived by a son, William Jeffrey Leggett of Lake Blackshear; two daughters, Cynthia Ann Linton of Floyds Knobs, Ind. and Brittany Ruth Leggett of Cordele; three grandsons, Scott Miller of Houston, Texas, Greg Miller and Patrick Miller, both of Indiana; five sisters, Sara Lee Britt of Barnesville, N.C., Lornea Johnson of Wilmington, N.C., Carol Freeman of Lumberton, N.C., Diane Brock of Morehead City, N.C. and Nellie Rouleau of Wilmington, N.C. The family may be contacted at the home of Jeffrey and Lisa Leggett of Lake Blackshear and they will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service on Sunday. Eugene Edwin Miller
Eugene Edwin Miller, 78, of Cordele died at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta Sunday, January 16, 2005. Born Thursday, November 25, 1926 in Cordele, he was the son of the late Myer Rubin Miller and Minnie Perlis Miller. He was a graduate of Cordele High School, the Citadel Military School in Charleston, S.C., and the University of Georgia. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Miller was the first Magistrate Judge of Crisp County. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Graveside services will be held at the Hebrew Congregation cemetery in Fitzgerald Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at 12:00 noon. He is survived by a brother, Charles Miller of Montgomery, Ala.; two nieces, Dawn Gillerman of Chicago, Ill. and Mindy Miller of Atlanta; and a nephew, Mark Miller of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his sister and her husband, Elaine and Joseph Gillerman and a sister-in-law, Arline Miller. Arrangements by Rainey Family Funeral Services, Inc.

Rev. J. Hubert Blanton
Rev. J. Hubert Blanton, 89, of Cordele died at Crisp Regional Hospital Friday, March 11, 2005. He was born Saturday, June 5, 1915 in Early County and was the son of the late Joseph Henry Blanton and Missouri Lula Rosetta Paul Blanton and the widower of Frances Glass Blanton. Rev. Blanton was a retired minister and the founder of the Cordele First Assembly of God in 1965. Funeral services will be held Monday March 14, 2005 at the Cordele First Assembly of God at 11:00 a.m. iIntermentwill follow in East View cemetery at 3:00 p.m. in Shellman, Georgia. He is survived by two sons, Carl E. Blanton of Brunswick and Larry Blanton and wife, Lois of Cordele; three daughters, Barbara B. Collins, Pat B. Fox and husband, Larry, and Sherrie B. Adams and husband, Daniel, all of Cordele; brother-in-law, Rev. A.J. Glass and wife, Inez of Blakely; sister-in-law, Ruth Johnson Glass of Cuthbert; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Marvin E. Blanton and a grandson, Byron K. Blanton. Elzie Cullen Ford, Sr., age 73, of Cordele, Ga. died at Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany Monday, July 7, 2003 The son of the late William R.M. Ford and Lilly (Howard) Ford, he was born on Saturday, November 23, 1929 in Doles, Ga. He was a retired mechanic. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy T. Born Tuesday, January 7, 1919 in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late Wright Brady Mims and Willie Leola Johnson Mims. Mrs. Williams had worked at Crisp County Hospital in Central Supply and as a Lady Attendant at Dekle Funeral Home. Services will be held in the chapel Of Rainey Family Funeral Services Saturday, December 6, 2003 at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Crown Hill cemetery in Albany. She is survived by her husband, Hubert O. Williams of Cordele; a son, James R. Evelyn McCook, 81 of Arabi died at Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville Wednesday, May 5, 2004. Born on Sunday, May 21, 1922 in Crisp County, she was the daughter of the late Tip Gerald Cox and Bertha Estelle Royal Cox and the widow of Walter Lewis McCook. Mrs. McCook was a homemaker and attended Arabi Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held in the chapel Of Rainey Family Funeral Services Friday, May 7, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. iIntermentwill follow at Arabi cemetery in Arabi. Ada Perlis Alper
Ada Perlis Alper, a life-long resident of Cordele, died Friday, July 23, 2004 at Crisp Regional Hospital. She was the wife of the late Joe Alper and the daughter of the late Ike and Dora Roobin Perlis. Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Faircloth and son-in-law, John Faircloth. Other survivors include two grandchildren, Kathy Allen and husband, M.H. Allen of Thomasville, Kristy Allen and husband, Keith Allen of Moultrie and four great-grandchildren, Abbey Allen, Megan Allen, Bradley Allen and Brent Allen. Mrs. Alper was preceded in death by a brother, Isadore Perlis and three sisters, Sadie Gottlieb, Minnie Miller and Ann Feingold. Rev. Charles R. Weber
Rev. Charles R. Weber, 73, of Cordele died at Crisp Regional Nursing & Rehab Wednesday, October 6, 2004. Born Wednesday, February 25, 1931 in Bronx, NY, he was the son of Charles Weber and the late Marie Borsuk Weber. He was retired from the Miami Public School System and was a member of Third Street Baptist Church and American Legion Post #71 in Rochelle. He served in the Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Funeral services will be held at Third Street Baptist Church Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. iIntermentwill follow in the Veterans Section of Sunnyside cemetery in Cordele. He is survived by his wife, Denyse G. Houle Weber of Cordele; three sons, Edward Charles Weber of Los Angeles, Calif., Charles R. Weber, Jr. and wife Diane and William Charles Weber, all of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a daughter, Lori Ann Houseknecht and husband Keith of Charlotte, N.C.; step-children, Stéphane D'Amours and Annie D'Amours, both of Montreal; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Christine Daniel Vandermark, 88, of Warwick died at Crisp Regional Nursing and Rehab Sunday, October 12, 2003. She was born on Saturday, February 20, 1915 in Doles and was the daughter of the late Willie E. Daniel and Effie Champion Daniel. She was a homemaker and a member of the Warwick First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at the Warwick First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2003, with burial to follow at the Red Oak cemetery in Doles. She is survived by two sons, Stephen L. Davidson of Hollis, NH and Wlliam Daniel Davidson of Homosassa, Fl.; a daughter-in-law, Patricia A. Davidson of Hollis, NH.; three sisters, Lynelle White of Warwick, Camilla Wright of Albany and Melna Green of Gray; three grandchildren, Stephen L. Davidson, Jr. of Reston, Va., Billy Davidson of Cascades, Va. and Deborah Adams of Hollis, NH. and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, B. F. Lillian Pridgen Cannon
Lillian Pridgen Cannon, 89, died at Cordelia Manor Monday, April 5, 2004. Born Sunday, January 31, 1915 in Cordele, she was the daughter of the late William Earl Pridgen and Nancy Pearl Helton Pridgen and the widow of Joseph Warren Cannon. Mrs. Cannon was a graduate of Georgia State Women's College in Milledgeville and taught in the Crisp County School System for 23 years. She was a member of Cordele First United Methodist Church and Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority. She was also a member of Cordele Garden Club and the Cordele Woman's Club. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Karl Boyles of Pensacola, Fla., Carol and Jim Humes of Columbus, and Kay and Bill McWilliams of Cordele; grandchildren, Joe and Laura Boyles, William Boyles, Debrough and Brian Della Rosa, Win and Harriet Boyles, Amy Ferguson, Sarah Cannon Humes, Cary McWilliams, Molly McWilliams and Katie McWilliams; and a great-grandson, Jack Ferguson. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille P. Hines. Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 10, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2004 at the home of Kay and Bill McWilliams at 298 Cannon Branch Road, Cordele. Minnie Hulett
Minnie Hulett, 86, of Cordele died Thursday, May 13, 2004 at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele. Born November 5, 1917 in Crisp County, she was the daughter of the late Beverly Tucker and the late Annie Hurt Tucker and the widow of Kinnon Hulett. Mrs. Hulett was a member of Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church and Bridges Communtiy Club. She was a retired seamstress at Cordele Uniform Company. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 16 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services with interment to follow at Sunnyside Cemetery. She is survived by her two sons, Larry Hulett of Cobb and Steven E. Hulett of Danielsville, a god-child, Holly Akins of Vienna, a sister Addie Eggleston of Brevard, NC, a granddaughter Kathy Hulett of Virginia, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Curtis Tucker, Isaah Tucker, Lee Tucker, Beverly S. Tucker, Robert Tucker, Jude Tucker and Alvie Tucker also sisters Ruby Tucker Massey and Laddie Tucker Poole. Arrangements are being handled by Rainey Family Funeral Services. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. She was born Thursday, June 10, 1909 in Montezuma and was the daughter of the late Wayne Hill and Tilda Bell Massey Hill and the widow of Cecil David Wells. Mrs. Wells was a homemaker. Graveside services will be held at Sunnyside cemetery Monday, September 13, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Marie Coffey of Ashburn; granddaughters and their husbands, Lynn Ramirez of Perry, Linda and Robert Law of Leslie, Teresa and John Gordon and Tammy and Mike Lewis, all of Cordele; a grandson and his wife, Jerry and Debbie Akins of Cordele and great grandchildren, Brandon Coleman, Amanda Ramirez, Megan Law, Chris Law, Kalan Law, Robby Gordon, Brandi Akins, Shelley Akins, Brandon Akins, Amanda Akins and Jerry Akins, Jr. She was preceded in death by a son and daughter, Cecil J.
