Henry Mae Coleman

PINEHURST -- Henry Mae Coleman was born to the Late Henry Burden and Heddie Mae Young, on September 7, 1913, in Dooly County. She was later united in holy matrimony to Mr. Neal Coleman. She regularly attended Greater Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church until ill health prevented her from attending.

On June 11, 2003, she died while a patient at Crisp Regional Hospital.

Leaving to cherish her memories are her children, Earlene C. Johnson and Wayne (Denise) Coleman, of Cordele; two granddaughters: Janice Gail (the Rev. Eddie) Henderson and Brenda Faye Powell; one godchild, Virginia Paul; six great-grandchildren: Rashida Booker, Michael Childs, Ramona Booker, Tameika Coleman, Natasha Coleman, and Elijah Henderson; one great-great granddaughter, Gabrielle McGill; one sister, Mrs. Lessie Mathis; two sister -in-laws, Luella Burden, and Alice Williams, and a host of other relatives and sorrowing friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Coleman will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Greater Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth M. Williams officiating. Services will be directed by Dowdell Funeral Home.

Dea Choice Cobb Sr. will lead the hymn and the Rev. Ronnie Mathis will lead the prayer. Scripture being read by the Rev. W.B. Mathis (Old) and the Rev. Lewis Burden (New). Greater Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church Choir will render the music with a solo being sung by her Granddaughter Janice Gail Henderson and Sister Francis Mathis. Expressions will be by Dea. James Smith, with remarks by Sister Lucille Shazier and the Arringtons. Mrs. Coleman's nephews will serve as pallbearers. Greater Morris Brotherhood Ministries will serve as honorary pallbearers and ushers and friends serving as flower attendants. iIntermentwill follow in Forest Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Pinehurst.

Elizabeth Redd Coes

PINEHURST -- The entombment memorial for Mrs. Elizabeth Redd Coes of Unadilla will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, in the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Cemetery, Pinehurst. All family and friends are invited to attend. Alvie Coes Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Lola Bell Jackson

VIENNA -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lola Bell Jackson, 98, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, in Friendship Baptist Church, Pinehurst. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. J.C. Baker will officiate the services, directed by Alvie Coes Funeral Home of Unadilla.

Mrs. Jackson died Monday, June 9, 2003, in a local hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Jim Cherry Sr. and Annie Lou West Cherry. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Doris Lee of Vienna; a sister, Amanda Sutton of Perry; two grandchildren, Lelie Green and Patricia Lee of Albany; and four great-grandchildren.

Emmitt Bernard Herndon

VIENNA -- Emmitt Bernard Herndon, 85, died at his residence Wednesday, June 11, 2003.

He was born on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 1917, in Pulaski County. The son of the late James Matthew Herndon and Nora (McKinney) Herndon. He was a retired farmer, member of the Woodmen of the World and the Pinecrest Baptist Church.

He is survived by two sons, Wayne Herndon and Wendell Herndon both of Vienna; one daughter, Kay H. (Herndon) Cason of Vienna; and one sister, Marie (Herndon) McGlamory of Brunswick.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Helen Herndon; one brother, Julius Herndon; and two sisters, Thelma (Herndon) Sangster and Ruby (Herndon) McCorkle.

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services on Friday, June 13, 2003, at 4p.m. with the Revs. Don Howell and Bryan Cason officiating.

Elliott M. Cobb

CORDELE -- Funeral services for Elliott M. Cobb were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Lakeshore Baptist Church. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The Revs. Randy Clayton and Joe Lumpkin officiated the services.

Marcene Freeman, pianist, accompanied the Rev. Royce Freeman as he led the congregation in singing "Victory In Jesus." Mrs. Freeman also accompanied Jan Hamrick as she sang "It Is Well With My Soul" and "Amazing Grace."

Pallbearers were Brian Cobb, Stephen Cobb, David Cobb, Richard Beacham, Robert Beacham and Glenn Pope.

Mary Elizabeth Reed

ALBANY -- Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Reed, 80, of Albany, formerly of Rochelle, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the M.G. Frazier Memorial Chapel of Frazier & Son Funeral Home. iIntermentwill follow in the Morningside Cemetery. The Rev. Keith Gaines will officiate.

Ms. Reed died Tuesday, May 6, 2003.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Sari B. Stanley

ALBANY -- Graveside services for Sari B. Stanley, 84, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2003, at Sunnyside cemetery in Cordele. Lee Guerry will officiate the services, directed by Mathews Funeral Home of Albany.

Mrs. Stanley died Sunday, June 8, 2003.

A native of Crisp County, she was a graduate of Crisp County High School and received her registered nurse training at Georgia Baptist Hospital. After graduation, she served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, attached to the Emory Hospital Unit. She worked as an anesthetist at Emory Hospital from 1953 until 1962 when she moved to Saudi Arabia and was employed with Aramco until 1966. She also worked with the Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif., and with Sloan-Ketting Memorial Hospital in New York City. She was a member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church and was a former member of Doublegate Country Club.

Survivors include two sisters, Belva Little of Sylvester, and Mary Nell Titshaw of Cordele; three nieces, Jane Gray of Tifton, Sally Taylor of Newnan, Mary Souter of Montezuma; and two nephews, Crawford Little of Tifton, and Curt Titshaw of Cordele.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Stanley.

The family will be at the residence of Mary Nell Titshaw, 156 Titshaw Road, Cordele.

Olen Christmas

CORDELE -- Funeral services for Olen Christmas were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2003, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial followed in Sunnyside Cemetery. The Revs. Royce Freeman and James Spires officiated the services.

Marcene Freeman, pianist, played soft music for the service and accompanied Rev. Freeman and herself as they sang "In The Garden" and "What Will I Leave Behind."

Pallbearers were Hosea Walls, Jackie Phillips, J.E. Phillips, James Gilliam, Floyd Johnson and Jimmy Walls.

Hughes & Wright Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

Martha Bramlett Alexander

CORDELE -- Martha Bramlett Alexander, 73, of Cordele, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at her son's residence in Camilla.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at 3 p.m. at Camilla First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Oakview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral.

Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Hughes & Wright Funeral Home in Cordele.

Mrs. Alexander was a native of Mitchell County. She was the daughter of the late James R. and Lois Twitty Bramlett, founders of Bramlett Funeral Home in 1922, in Camilla. She was preceded in death by her husband, B.G. Alexander, a daughter, Linda Parker, and a son, Pat Bramlett Parker.

She was a former den mother for the Cub Scouts of Camilla, the Junior Boys Choir, mother for the Camilla First Baptist Church. She was awarded the Female Volunteer of the Year in 1973 for the Camilla Recreation Department. She was a member and past president of the Camilla Pilot Club and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Camilla. She served 16 years for the Lee County Board of Elections and was a member of the Albany Exchange Club. She was a charter member of the Lee County Lions Club where she served as Lion Tamer. After moving to Cordele, she joined Morningside Baptist Church and the Cordele Lions Club.

She is survived by her three sons, James "Jim" Parker of Port Charlotte, Fla., Eugene R. "Butch" Parker Jr. of Cordele, and Raymond Parker of Camilla; and six grandchildren.

Timmons Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements in Camilla.

Hughes & Wright Funeral Home of Cordele has charge of the arrangements.

Dicie Jackson Walker

CORDELE -- Funeral services for Dicie Jackson Walker, 74, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003, in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. Minister Isaac Owens will officiate the services, directed by J.W. Williams Funeral Home.

Mrs. Walker died Thursday, June 5, 2003.

She was a member of Odum Grove Baptist Church.

Jack King will offer the prelude and Minister Owens will lead the processional, followed by Elder Leon Dixon reading scripture. Deacon Nelson Mainor will sing a musical selection and prayer will be offered by Deacon John Lee Clark. Music will be rendered by Odum Grove Choir and a solo will be performed by Minister Dorothy Jones. Family members and friends will give words of reflection. An African-American bible will be presented to the family as a keepsake from J.W. Williams Funeral Home.

Survivors include a son, Isiah Walker of Cordele; three daughters, Louise Walker, Van E. Walker and Renita Walker all of Cordele; a sister, Leila Jackson of Cordele; 24 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.

Jewell Youngblood Summers

REBECCA -- Funeral services for Jewell Youngblood Summers, 87, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Perry Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Summers died Thursday, June 12, 2003, in Tift Health Care following a lengthy illness.

Jerry Edward Grooms

RANGER - Funeral services for Jerry Edward Grooms, 43, were held in the M.G. Frazier Memorial Chapel in Rochelle at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2003, with burial at Morningside cemetery in Rochelle.

Corene Boyd

SYCAMORE -- Graveside services for Corene Boyd, 83, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2003, at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church cemetery in Dooly County. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Boyd died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Roger H. Woodard

CORDELE -- Funeral services for Roger H. Woodard, 71, will be held at 4 p.m. today, June 15, 2003, at Morningside Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery. Hughes & Wright Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Woodard died Thursday, June 12, 2003, in the Atlanta V.A. Medical Center.

A native of Crisp County, he was a U.S. Marine veteran having served in the Korean Conflict, and also served in the Reserves for eight years. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church, having been a member of Sharon Baptist Church for 52 years. He was owner of Woodard Nursery and Landscaping for 33 years and was a member of the American Association of Nurserymen.

Survivors include a son, Joel Woodard of Cordele; two daughters, Janet (George) Faircloth of Cordele, and Beth (Arthur) Roney of Lilly; a brother, Harris "Sonnie" Woodard of Cordele; three sisters, Mildred Mixon, Ruth Bowen and Gladys Mixon all of Cordele; and three grandchildren, Brittany Faircloth of Cordele, and Roger and Gage Roney both of Lilly.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Wright Woodard, and a daughter, Sandra Elaine Woodard.

Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, at the funeral home.

Hughes & Wright Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
