Raymond H. Peavy

ABBEVILLE — Raymond H. Peavy, beloved husband and father, 82, of Abbeville died Monday Dec. 27, 2004, in the Coliseum Medical Centers in Macon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, in the Abbeville First Baptist Church. The Rev. Jim Faircloth and the Rev. Tim Hill will officiate. Burial will be in the Friendship cemetery in Pulaski County.

Visitation will be held today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Frazier & Son Funeral Home in Rochelle has charge of arrangements.

Addie Kitchens Jones

AMERICUS — Funeral services for Addie Kitchens Jones, 91, of Americus will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at Cheek Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Houston Berry officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Jones died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at her residence.

She was born March 4, 1913 and was the daughter of the late Virgil Calvin Kitchens Sr. and the late Jessie Clark Kitchens in Houston County. She was a graduate of Georgia Southwestern College. She was a registered nurse for the Georgia Department of Health until her retirement in 1978. She was a member of Cheek Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors includes two daughters and son-in-law Laverne Pringle, Sue Bivins and Stanley Bivins of Americus; four sons and daughter-in-laws Horace “Buddy” Summerlin, David W. Summerlin and Wynell, Joel Steve Summerlin and Donald Summerlin and Sandra all of Americus; two sisters and a brother-in-law Jewel Turk of Pineview, and Edna Bobo and Quinton of Cordele; also surviving is 17 grandchildren, Michael “Mike” Calies, Stanley Bivins Jr., Bruce Bivins, Sharon McFather, Walter Bivins, Roger Bivins, Marnie Eason, Steve Summerlin II, Eva Marie Albritton, Becky Licona, Dawn Busbee, Javonne Spence, David Summerlin Jr., Lisa Summerlin, Vicki Holmes, Marc Morris and Lisa Higley; 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Jones; a daughter, Doris Summerlin; and two sisters, Annie Willie Coker and Fannie Mae Holloway and four brothers, Roy Kitchen, Marvin Kitchens, Woodrow Kitchens and Junior Kitchens.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at Aldridge Funeral Services and other times at residence 441 Georgia Highway 49 North.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cheek Memorial Baptist Church, 1505 Macon Road, Americus, Ga. 31709.

Aldridge Funeral Services in Americus is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Merrell

CORDELE — Funeral services for Evangelist Mary Merrell will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, in the A.S. Clark Elementary School Auditorium. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. Pastor Andrew Walker will officiate the services.

Mrs. Merrell died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004.

Survivors include her husband, Paul D. Merrell of Cordele; a son, Clifford Jones of Cordele; a step-daughter, Nell (Chris) Smith of Montezuma; a brother, Eddie J. Ruckin of Cordele; her father and mother-in-law, Little Lewis and Sarah Merrell of Byromville; uncles, Walter Paul of Cordele, R.C. (Sally) Merrell of Lilly, and Joe Chatman of Jacksonville, Fla.; aunts, Mamie (Lewis) Sanders and Annie Palmer both of Lilly, Maynell Hardrick and Minnie Lou Hardrick both of Vienna, and Annie Mae Miller of New York; great-aunts, Allene Hardrick of Tampa, Fla., Inez Haugabrook of Montezuma, Lillie Smith of Atlanta, and Mamie Postell of Florida; brothers-in-law, Lewis (Samantha) Merrell, Wilbert (Linda) Merrell, Willie James Merrell, Arthur Merrell, Ricky (Puddin) Merrell, Bobby (Jackie) Merrell and Antonio Merrell; a sister-in-law, Doris Merrell; grandchildren, Latesia, Carlton, Brandon, Angelique, Big Man and Chris Jr.; a great-grandchild, Darian; a future daughter-in-law, Melissa Ann Daniels; and special friends, Angeline Barrett-Jones, Barbara Crawford-Jones and Cynthia Bivens.

A.M. ‘Coon’ Helms

CORDELE — A.M. “Coon” Helms, 80 of Cordele died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at Crisp Regional Hospital.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired maintenance engineer and a member of Peavy Memorial United Methodist Church. Mr. Helms was the son of the late Deason Isom Helms and the late Hester Lorene Parr Helms.

He is survived by his wife, Inez (Suggs) Helms; a daughter and son-in-law, Clarice and Ronald Bailey of Federal Way, Wash.; a son and daughter-in-law, Chester Ethane and Cheryl V. Helms of Middletown, R.I.; two sisters, Lora Thompson of Cordele, and Viola Royal of Arabi; and a granddaughter, Cassie Helms of Middletown, R.I.

Arrangements are being handled by Rainey Family Funeral Services of Cordele where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004.

Funeral service will be in the chapel of Rainey Funeral Services at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004. iIntermentwill be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Odessa Paulk Spires

CORDELE — Mrs. Odessa Paulk Spires, 81, of Cordele died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, in North Broward Hospital in Pompano Beach, Fla.

A native of Coffee County, Mrs. Spires was born Oct. 20, 1923, the daughter of the late Homer and Ethel Baisden Paulk. She was a retired nursing assistant.

Survivors include daughters, Ethel Parks and son-in-law James Parks, Lighthouse Point Fla., Jeanette Jones and husband, R. L. Jones, Cordele; sisters, Nellie Lindsey and Geraldine Paulk, Douglas, and Carolyn Mancil, Nicholls; brother, Curtis Spires; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at Sims Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Japuntich officiating.

Soloist, Samuel Watson sang “Mama’s Prayer”, “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “I’m Changing Houses.” Also the congregation sang, “Amazing Grace” accompanied by Lois Mills, pianist.

Burial followed in the Salem Church cemetery near Douglas Georgia.

Active pallbearers were Jeff Lindsey, Jason Mancil, Mark Mancil, David Lindsey, Jimmy Robert Sears and Lindsey Wolfe.

Sims Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Timothy Ray Dennard Sr.

REBECCA — Memorial services for Timothy Ray Dennard Sr. will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 2, 2004, in the Rebecca Methodist Church. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Dennard died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at his farm in Ben Hill County near Rebecca.

Larry Lewis

CORDELE — Funeral services for Larry Lewis will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in the sanctuary of Beulahland Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The Rev. Chester Askins will officiate the services.

Mr. Lewis died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004.

Survivors include a sister, Ora Bell Morgan of Cordele; brothers, Fred (Mary) Taylor, Norman Lewis, Willie (Linda) Lewis and Johnny C. (Regina) Lewis all of Cordele, George B. (Willie Mae) Lewis, Charles (Deborah) Lewis and Michael (Barbara) Lewis all of Atlanta; aunts, Norma Lee Broxton and Bernice Grinder both of Augusta, and Carrie Mae Brown of Cordele; and uncles, Deacon Leroy (Delois) Colbert and Robert Colbert both of Cordele, Otis (Anna) Colbert of Hempstead, N.Y., and Willie James (Vivian) Colbert of Queens, N.Y.

Lillie M. Strother

CORDELE — Funeral services for Lillie M. Strother will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in the sanctuary of New Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The Rev. W.W. Wilson will officiate the services.

Mrs. Strother died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004.

Survivors include cousins, Jean Tolbert and family and Eva Morgan all of Cordele, and JoAnne D. Taylor of Albany; and special friends, Mr. and Mrs. James Beal, Sarah Mae Dykes, Lula Mae Greene, Brenda Faye Powell, Janice Gail Henderson, William Blandon, Naomi Stubbs, Fannie Mae James, Bessie Mae Jones, Wayne Coleman and the New Oak Grove Church family all of Cordele.

Woodrow W. Dowdell

CORDELE — Funeral services for Deacon Woodrow W. Dowdell were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, in New Beulah Baptist Church in Cobb. Burial followed in the Sue Walker cemetery at Desoto. J.W. Williams Funeral Home of Cordele had charge of the arrangements.

Odessa Paulk Spires

CORDELE — Funeral services for Odessa Paulk Spires, 81, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, in the chapel of Sims Funeral Home, Douglas. The Rev. Tony Japuntich officiated the services. Burial followed in Salem Church cemetery near Douglas.

Florene Lamunda

HAPEVILLE — Funeral services for Emily Florene Bradley Lamunda, 86, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Atlanta. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park.

Mrs. Lamunda died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Born June 16, 1918, in Bonita, La., she met and married her husband of almost 63 years in Little Rock, Ark. After military service, they and their two girls settled in Hapeville in 1952. Her husband, children and grandchildren were a vital part of her life. She was an active member of the Hapeville Service League and Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Jay Lamunda; children, Betty Jo Copelan and Jayne and Ed Hudson; grandchildren, Jeff and Gwen Copelan, David and Melinda Copelan, Jay and Beverly Copelan, Keri and Calvin Reykdal, Jenny and Darran Edwards and Michael and Stacy Copelan; and great-grandchildren, Alye, Megan, Christopher, Rachel and Sara Katherine Copelan.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Donehoo-Lewis Funeral Home, 736 S. Central Ave., Hapeville. Also, the family will hold a reception after the graveside service at 4:30 p.m. at the family home in Hapeville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1925 Century Blvd., Suite 10, Atlanta, Ga., 30345, www.alzga.org.

Timothy Ray Dennard Sr.

REBECCA — Memorial services for Timothy Ray Dennard Sr. will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, in the Rebecca Methodist Church. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Dennard died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at his farm in Ben Hill County near Rebecca.

Thelma P. Kinard

ABBEVILLE — Funeral services for Thelma P. Kinard, 67, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 21, 2004, in the M.G. Frazier Memorial Chapel of Frazier & Son Funeral Home of Rochelle. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery, Cordele. The Revs. Jim Faircloth and Chuck Taylor will officiate the services, directed by Frazier & Son Funeral Home of Rochelle.

Mrs. Kinard died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at her residence.
