Carolyn Jackson Hendley

RIDGETOP, Tenn. — Carolyn Jackson Hendley, 70, of Ridgetop, Tenn., died at Ridgetop Villa Haven Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004.

She was born Saturday, Aug. 25, 1934, in Cordele, the daughter of the late James Artis Jackson and Celie Florine Bolin Jackson. Mrs. Hendley was retired from Civil Service.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. iIntermentwill follow at Sunnyside Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughters, Denise Strickland of Norman Park, and Elaine Butler and Kay Parks both of Nashville, Tenn.; son, Joe Hendley of Cordele; a brother, Harold Jackson of Cordele; a sister, Louise Odom of Warwick; and grandchildren, Robert and Jessica Meisner, R.J. Strickland, Richard and Mishelle Butler, Lacey Dillard, Dwayne Sword and his fiance, Melissa Knight, Michael Parks and his fiance, Shantae Robinson, Joey Parks and Jessica Parks and her fiancé, Matthew Knight; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James Jackson; a grandson, Jamie Butler; and a son-in-law, Ronnie Parks.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6-8 p.m.

Jeanette Rosetta Marie Thérése Desmarais Bringman

CORDELE — Funeral services for Jeanette Rosetta Bringman were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. The Rev. Brett Jarriel conducted the service.

Daniel Horne, pianist, played soft music. Lynn Harward, Mrs. Bringman’s daughter, sang “Blessed” and Mollie Jarriel sang “It’s True.” Mrs. Bringman’s other daughters, Kerrie Wills and Sherrie Horne, and Mrs. Harward sang “Amazing Grace.” Her son, Les Bringman, read a poem entitled “Today, Tonight.”

Pallbearers were Lamar Wills, Scott Harward, Daniel Horne, Mike Hughes, Larry Price and Thomas Clack.

Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery in Ashburn.

Rainey Family Funeral Services of Cordele had charge of the arrangements.

George Edward Ethridge Jr.

AMERICUS — George E. Ethridge Jr., 67, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004.

A native of Sumter County, Mr. Ethridge was the son of George Edward Ethridge Sr. and the late Effie Holley Ethridge. He was service manager with Erickson's Forklift, was volunteer of the year for Easter Seals in the early 1980’s, loved motorcycles, car racing and spending time on his tractor on his farm. Mr. Ethridge served in the National Guard from 1959-1965 and was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov.18, 2004, in the chapel of Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Damon Fountain and Tommy McConnell officiating. iIntermentfollowed in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Survivors other than his father, George Edward Ethridge Sr., include his wife, Thelma E. Ethridge of Americus; one daughter, Tammy Ethridge Chapman of Americus; a son-in-law, Gregory Scott Duncan of Americus; his mother-in-law, Jennie O’Neal of Americus; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald Holley Ethridge and Sally, Reagan Spencer Ethridge and Linda all of Americus; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Joe Manders of Arabi, Ted Early Manders and Donna of Savannah, Todd Manders and Brenda of Cordele; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Southeast Affiliate, 1685 Terrell Mill Road, Marietta, Ga., 30067-8320.

Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Lula Mae Thompson Walker

CORDELE — Funeral services for Lula Mae Thompson Walker will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, in Shady Grove Baptist Church, Cordele. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The Rev. L.D. Cobb will officiate the services.

Mrs. Walker died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, in an Orlando, Fla., hospital.

Born in Dooly County, she was the daughter of the late Elijah and Emma Smith Thompson. She attended Dooly County Schools and was the widow of the late Willie Walker. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where she served on the mission and mother boards. She was a homemaker and a domestic worker.

Survivors include a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

The body will be placed in the church at 12 p.m.

The family may be contacted at 409 W. 14th Ave., Cordele.

W. Pauline Edwards

MACON — W. Pauline Edwards, 86, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, in a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services, Cordele. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery, Cordele. The Rev. Billy Forrest will officiate the services.

She was born in Cordele, the daughter of the late Calvin Ambers Powell and Lola Connell Powell. She was the wife of the late Frank Edwards and had lived in Macon since 1946. She had worked at Saratoga Restaurant and at LenBergs and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Faur of Omaha, Neb.; her son, William Carl Gordon Jr. of Gray; her sister, Lola Mae Mathis of Cordele; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. today at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street, Macon.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church Building Fund, 6611 Zebulon Road, Macon, Ga., 31210.

Ruby Lee Poole Bobo

ASHBURN — Funeral services for Ruby Lee Poole Bobo, 86, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in Perry Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Bobo died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, in Ashburn Health Care following a brief illness.

LaVerne Owen

MACON — Funeral services for LaVerne Owen, 85, of John Wesley Villas in Macon will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at the chapel of Hart’s Mortuary with the Rev. Creedy Hinshaw officiating. Burial will follow in Midway Methodist cemetery in Cordele at 2:30 p.m.

Mrs. Owen died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004.

Mrs. Owen was a member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Robert Blane Owen and the daughter of the late Otis Adams and the late Sallie Dorough Adams. Mrs. Owen was retired from Peeler Hardware.

Mrs. Owen is survived by her daughter, June Byers of Macon; a son, Robert Herrington, Jr. of Phenix City, Al; three grandchildren, Kathy Welch of Macon, Cindy Grinsted of Macon, and Robert Herrington III of Columbus; seven great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; a brother, Dock Adams; and three sisters, Irma McKey, Ann Province, and Buddy Wadsworth.

Visitation will be today from 5 until 7 p.m. at Hart’s Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Central Georgia, P.O. Box 6533, Macon, Ga. 31208.

Hart’s Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Sherry Leigh Bridges

MACON — Funeral services for Sherry Leigh Bridges, 38, of Macon will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at First Baptist Church of Unadilla. iIntermentwill follow at Walnut Cemetery.

Ms. Bridges died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at her residence.

The family will greet friends from 7-8 p.m. today, Nov. 25, 2004, at the funeral home.

Johnnie Lee Bryant

PINEHURST — Funeral services for Johnnie Lee Bryant Sr., 80, of Jacksonville, Fla., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Pinehurst. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. The Rev. J.C. Baker will officiate.

Mr. Bryant died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, in Jacksonville, Fla.

He was a decorated World War II Army veteran and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Service Medal and Asiatic Pacific Service Medal.

Survivors include his wife, Willene Breedlove-Bryant of Cordele; a son, Johnnie Bryant Jr. (Rev. Antonia Jones-Bryant) of Vallejo, Calif.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26 at the funeral home. The family may be contacted at 1707 Turner St. and 309 W. 29th Ave. in Cordele.

Samuel Ulysses Collins

CORDELE — Samuel Ulysses Collins, 79, of Cordele died at Crisp Regional Nursing & Rehab Tuesday, November 23, 2004.

He was born Saturday, Nov. 7, 1925, and was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Collins and Mary Edna Smith Collins.

Mr. Collins was a retired farmer and a faithful Christian of the Baptist faith.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Arabi Cemetery.

He is survived by a brother, James Henry Collins of Cumming; a sister, Sadie Pitts of Tifton; nephews, Terry Wadford of Cordele, Jim Collins of Hickory, N.C., and John Collins and Joe Collins, both of Cumming; nieces Debra West and Ann Collins, both of Cumming.

The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, from 9 a.m. until time for the service.

Arrangements are by Rainey Family Funeral Services, Inc.
