Myrtle M. Walker

ROCHELLE - Funeral services for Myrtle M. Walker, 67, of the Owensboro Community will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 28, 2006, in the M.G. Frazier Memorial Chapel of Frazier and Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Roy Conner will officiate the services.

Mrs. Walker died Sunday, March 26, 2006, in River Willows Nursing Center.

Born Dec. 23, 1938, in Wilcox County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Drew Fitzgerald and Ruby Standridge Fitzgerald. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Walker of Rochelle; and sons, Johnny Lendon Walker and William Fitzgerald Walker both of Rochelle.

Frazier and Son Funeral Home of Rochelle has charge of the arrangements.

Benjamin W. 'Ben' Williford

REBECCA - Funeral services for Benjamin W. 'Ben' Williford, 83, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006, in the Amboy Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Williford died Saturday, March 25, 2006, in Tift Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness.

A native of Crisp County, he was the son of the late Benjamin G. and Kate Newsome Williford. He lived in Crisp County before moving to Turner County in 1939. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Woodmen of the World. He was a member of the Amboy Baptist Church, where he was a member of the brotherhood, served as a deacon and was chairman of the board of deacons for a long number of years. He served as Sunday School teacher for the Men's Class and was the former Sunday School director. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Skeet Williford, Garth Williford and Elmer Williford.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Barton Williford of Rebecca; his children, James Williford of Sycamore, Elaine W. Cullina of Rebecca, and Susan W. Phillips of Hiawassee; brothers and sisters, Buford Williford and Virginia Wilkerson both of Rebecca, M.J. 'Shorty' Williford of Ashburn, and Dorothy Jackson of Cordele; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.

Anne L. Harrell

VIENNA - Memorial services for Anne L. Harrell, 81, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006, in the Vienna City Cemetery.

Mrs. Harrell died Sunday, March 26, 2006, in a local hospital.

Born in Vienna, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lumsden and Annie Lou Butler Lumsden. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Cordele and was a former librarian at the Cordele-Crisp Carnegie Library. She was the widow of the late John B. Harrell Jr.

Survivors include a son, John B. Harrell III of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Anne L. Harrell of Tallahassee, Fla., and Susan H. Carse of Girdwood, Ark.; and three grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Ruth Crews Hearn

WAYCROSS — Mrs. Ruth Crews Hearn died Friday, April 21, 2006, at age 91 in Satilla Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born and reared in Waycross, the daughter of the late Melvin Crews and Harriett Sweat Crews. She had lived in Waycross most of her life and was preceded in death by her spouse of 62 years, Walter S. Hearn. She was a member of the Waycross High School Class of 1933, First Presbyterian Church and the Lena Q. Whitman Sunday School Class. She was past president of the Waycross Exchangettes, Past Worthy Matron of Okefenokee Chapter # 474 O.E.S., and was a member of the Waycross Shrine Auxillary. She volunteered with Satilla Care and Hospice Satilla for many years. In her younger years, she was active in the Eleven O’Clock Club. She was an active nurse for 40 years until her retirement in her eighties. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

She is survived by her three children, Jon Hearn (Marietta) of Jacksonville, Joy Hearn Gibson (Rev. Robert) of Macon, and Scott Hearn (Glenda) of Cordele; four grandchildren, the Rev. Scott Hearn (Sandy) of Cumming, Shelly Helms (Todd) of Cordele, Katie Gibson of Macon, and Meredith Farruk (Tareque) of Dhaka, Bangladesh; six great-grand children, Sarah, Allison and Caroline Hearn of Cumming, Karsen and Haley Helms of Cordele, and Adam Farruk of Dhaka, Bangladesh; a very dear friend, Mary Anne Thames of Waycross; and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2006, in the First Presbyterian Church, Waycross.

Visitation will held from 5-7 p.m. today at Miles-Odum Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Miles-Odum Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Jack Carter

CORDELE — Funeral services for Jack Carter, 69, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2006, in Pinecrest Baptist Church. iIntermentwill follow at Sunnyside Cemetery.

Mr. Carter died at his residence Saturday, April 22, 2006.

He was born Sunday, Dec. 22, 1936, in Toombs County, the son of the late James Samuel Carter Sr. and Lizzie Bell Youmans Carter. He was a self-employed pecan grower and farm equipment salesman. Mr. Carter was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church and the Crisp County Sportsman’s Club.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Walling Carter of Cordele; six daughters and their husbands, Renea and Terry Fennell of Arabi, Dale and Rusty Walker and Rhonda and Jimmy Stillwell all of Cordele, Cheryl Slade of Perry, Cindy and Wayne Edwards of Herrod, and Cathy and Dr. Bobby Abramson of Augusta; two brothers and their wives, Kenneth and Lavonia Carter and Harry and Patricia Carter all of Cordele; three sisters and their husbands, Jo and Percy Williams of Douglasville, Sarah and Clay Flanders of Macon, and Sue and Ken Dixon of Saint Augustine, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Richard Carter and Michael Bryan Carter.

Ruby D. Williams Jones

CORDELE - Funeral services for Ruby D. Williams Jones will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, in the Church of God of Prophecy on South 13th Street, Cordele. Burial will follow in Hardshell cemetery in Crisp County.

Mrs. Jones died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006.

A native of Crisp County, she was the daughter of the late Fred Williams Sr. and Louise Hudson Williams. She was a certified nursing assistant and member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors include three children, Latrina (Kershawn) Dawson, Tabatha Doston and Derick Weaver all of Cordele; her sisters and brothers, Fred (Arlene) Williams Jr., J.L. (Ruby) Williams, Eula Williams and Freddie Mae (Carl) Lewis all of Cordele, Joe (Tammy) Williams of Americus, and Eloise Ray of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Terry, Janiyah, Tyriek, Charkevious, Deriyahia and Macovian; her grandmother, Louise Johnson of Cordele; six aunts; three uncles; her fiance, Johnny Luckey of Cordele; and many friends.

The family may be contacted at 1408 Sheppard Court, Cordele.

Alice Ruth Riggins Royal

VIENNA - Funeral services for Alice Ruth Riggins Royal of Vienna will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, in the sanctuary of Lebanon Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Vienna City Cemetery. The Rev. Carlton Martin will officiate the services.

Mrs. Royal died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006.

The processional will be led by the Revs. Keith Lewis and Carlton Martin. A solo will be performed by Joseph Smith and prayer will be given by the Rev. Choice Cobb. Scripture readings will be given by the Revs. Keith Lewis and Walter Carter. Debra Cobb will sing a solo and words of reflection will be given by family members and friends. The family will be presented with an African-American heirloom Bible as a keepsake from the funeral home staff.

Survivors include her mother, Mendora Riggins of Vienna; two sisters, Agnes (Otis) Mitchell and Carlean Riggins of Vienna; a brother, Willie J. (Rosa Lee) Riggins of Vienna; aunts, Ernestine B. Mathis and Annie B. Bailey of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews to include three devoted, Ronald Mathis and Lashay Riggins of Vienna, and Marcus Pitts of Atlanta.

Willie Walker Sr.

CORDELE - Funeral services for Deacon Willie Walker of Cordele will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, in the sanctuary of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery. The Rev. Bobby L. Robinson will officiate the services.

Mr. Walker died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006.

The processional will be led by the Revs. Carl Munns and Bobby L. Robinson. Scripture readings will be given by Rev. Munns and prayer will be given by the Rev. Isaac H. Owens. A solo will be sung by Stacey Murry and a poem by will be read by Willmon Barrett. Words of reflection will be given by family members, church members and friends and solos will be performed by Larry Coleman and Deacon John Lee Clark. The family will be presented with an African-American heirloom Bible as a keepsake from the funeral home staff.

Survivors include his children, Loise Payne of Cleveland, Ohio, Willie Walker Jr., Freddie (Julia) Walker, Ida Walker, Carl (Elaine) Walker and Ulysses (Betty) Walker all of Cordele, Dorothy Jackson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Minnie (Raymond) Williams and Ruthie Landers both of Las Vegas, Nev., Bernice (Darrell) Westbrook of Long Beach, Calif., and Randy Walker of Atlanta; sisters, Alberta Simon and Estella Ray of Atlanta, Laura Mae Weaver and Ruby Walker of Cordele; a brother, Nathaniel Walker of Macon; 25 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; in-laws, Viola Walker, Margaret Walker and Liz Walker.

Raymond 'Ralph' Shaw

PITTSFIELD, Ill. - Raymond 'Ralph' Shaw, 90, of the Pittsfield Manor Nursing Home in Pittsfield, Ill., and formerly of Perry, Ill., died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, in the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. Burial will be in Wilson cemetery in Perry, Ill., where graveside military rites will be conducted by the Perry American Legion Post.

He was born March 15, 1915, in Griggsville, Ill., the son of the late Roy R. and Gertrude Elledge Shaw. He married Vedia Lackscheide on Nov. 9, 1938, in Bowling Green, Mo., and she survives at the Pittsfield Manor. Mr. Shaw was a carpenter for the Wabash Railroad for many years retiring in 1965. After retiring from the railroad, he became a custodian for the Perry School District which he did until 1974. He was a member of the Perry American Legion Post. Ralph loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman and loved to garden. He was also an avid Cardinal baseball fan. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, wintering in Texas for 18 years.

Other survivors include three daughters, Connie Cawthon and husband, Gerald of Griggsville, Ill., Mildred Creely and husband, Carl of Cordele, and Bonnie Abler and husband, Herb of Imperial, Mo.; a son, Frankie Shaw and wife, Carlene of Perry, Ill.; four grandchildren, Gena Reel and husband, Bob of Milton, Ill., Karissa Burdick and husband, Sonny of Pittsfield, Ill., Mark Cawthon of Perry, Ill., and Eric Creely and wife, Kim of Cordele; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Irene Ervin of Springfield, Ill., and Eulagene Phillips of Camp Point, Ill.; one brother, Donald Shaw of Moline, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Carolyn Shaw; a son, Ronnie Shaw; a daughter-in-law, Bette Shaw; a granddaughter, Rhonda Shaw; three sisters, Iris Ervin, Bessie Carr and Maxine Fair; and a brother, Jim Shaw.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

A meal for family and friends will be held following the committal at the Perry United Methodist Church.

Airsman-Hires Funeral Home of Pittsfield, Ill., has charge of the arrangements.

Sallie M. Williams

CORDELE - Funeral services for Sallie M. Williams will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, in the sanctuary of Shady Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow with the appointed minister officiating.

Mrs. Williams died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006.

The processional will be led by the Rev. Isaac H. Owens and the Shady Grove Church Choir will render a musical selection. Owens will offer prayer and Scripture will be read by the Rev. Gregory Williams and Jeff Wilson. A solo will be sung by Gloria Williams and words of reflections will be given by family members and friends. Tanya Jones will perform a solo and the family will be presented with an African-American heirloom Bible as a keepsake from the funeral home staff.

Survivors include her children, Gladys (Roscoe) Wilson, Eddie (Gwendolyn) Williams and Delmas (Vanessa) Williams all of Cordele, Arthur (Betty) Williams of Leesburg, Walter (Gloria) Williams of College Park, Hazel (Percival) Rowe of Boynton Beach, Fla., Myrtice (Virgil) Walker and Mark (Annette) Williams both of Seattle, Wash.; a step-daughter, Mozelle Hendley of Dayton Beach, Fla.; a granddaughter whom she reared, Priscilla Cheeks of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a sister, Rose Johnson of Philadelphia, Pa.; 38 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren and 33 great-great-grandchildren.
