John Poole Robertson

ASHBURN — Funeral services for John Poole Robertson, 89, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14 in Perry Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Robertson died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, in Ashburn Health Care following an extended illness.

Born in Knoxville, Ala., he was the son of the late Hayden Parham and Roberta Poole Robertson. A member of the St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Tuscaloosa, Ala., he was a long-time resident of Tuscaloosa before moving to Ashburn six years ago. He was retired as shop foreman of heavy equipment for Tuscaloosa County where he worked for 32 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II and his hobbies were fishing, working with his cars, and working on the farm. He received the Volunteer Service Award for performance and service from Tuscaloosa County Parks and Recreation and also served as president of the local 105 AFSCME, AFL-CIO. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Zell Sargent Robertson of Ashburn; his children, John Rodney and Carol Robertson and Shelia R. and Ken Skelton of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Brenda and Paul Perry of Ashburn; his grandchildren, Mark Skelton of Cincinnati, Ohio, Eilene Perry and Jonathan Perry of Ashburn, Phillip Skelton, Rod Robertson and Mike Howell of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Dr. Tray Howell of Greensboro, Ala.; his great-grandchildren, Dylan Howell, Hannah Howell, Matt Howell and Laura Beth Howell; and his sister, Edith Drummond of Fosters, Ala.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.

Thedis R. Musselwhite

VIENNA — Funeral services for Thedis R. Musselwhite, 81, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14 in the chapel of Brannen-NeSmith Funeral Home of Vienna. Burial will follow in the Vienna City Cemetery.

Mrs. Musselwhite died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at her residence.

Born in Thomas County, she was the daughter of the late William Wesley Rudd and Adele Berry Rudd. She was a member of the Vienna United Methodist Church, was a retired licensed practical nurse and was also a foster parent.

Survivors include her husband, Luther Musselwhite of Vienna; sons, David (Gail) Musselwhite and Billy Musselwhite of Vienna, and Danny Musselwhite of Fort Valley; daughters, Nancy (Wendell) Herndon of Vienna, Winnie (Bruce) Davis of Pinehurst, and Lee (Sam) Abernathy of Hawkinsville; brothers, Frankie Rudd of Byromville, Vernon (Louise) Rudd of Duebach, La., and Fraser (Lavada) Rudd of Five Points, Ala.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Luther Musselwhite Jr.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vienna UMC, 313 Church St., Vienna, Ga., 31092.

Brannen-NeSmith Funeral Home of Vienna has charge of the arrangements.

Eddie Hawkins Sr.

CORDELE — Funeral services for Eddie Hawkins Sr. will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14 in Beulahland Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery.

Mr. Hawkins died Sunday, April 8, 2007, in a local hospital.

A native of Crisp County, he was commonly known as “Leggs” and was a school bus driver for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Juria Hawkins of Cordele; his children, Eddie (Gladys) Hawkins, Calvin Addie and Gladys Addie all of Cordele, and Edward Addie of Charlotte, N.C.; his brother, Calvin (Lula) Hawkins of Long Island, N.Y.; a step-daughter, Jeanette (Herman) Harvey of Columbus; 22 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Dorothy T. Harrell

ALBANY — Funeral services for Dorothy T. Harrell, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 8 in Harmony Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Harmon-Smyrna Cemetery. Brannen-NeSmith Funeral Home of Vienna has charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Harrell died Saturday, May 5, 2007.

Ella Sue Fennell

DUBLIN — Funeral services for Ella Sue Fennell, 79, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 9 in Lebanon Baptist Church in Wilcox County. Burial will follow in Lebanon Cemetery. The Revs. David Biggers and Chuck Taylor will officiate the services. Visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Frazier & Son Funeral Home of Rochelle has charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Fennell died Sunday, May 6, 2007.

Georgia Lee Ford Bynes

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Funeral services for Georgia Lee Ford Bynes were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5 in the First Church of Faith of Pompano Beach. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. today in the Mt. Olive cemetery in Warwick. The Rev. Lorenda Ray will officiate the services.

Mrs. Bynes, a native of Worth County, died Monday, April 30, 2007, in a Pompano Beach hospital.

Survivors include her children, Waldo Ford of Pompano Beach, Fla., Ervin Ford of Albany, Sandra (Jeff) Bynes of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Yolanda (Larry) King of Margate, Fla.; a special god-daughter, Andrea Kelly of Coral Springs, Fla.; five sisters, Carrie Bell Nelson of Jacksonville, Fla., Elizabeth (Henry) Fox, Deloris (Larry) Wedges, Annie Louise (Rev. Lorenda) Ray and Claudia (Calvin) Clark all of Cordele; a brother, Charlie (Gloria) Ford of Cordele; brothers-in-law, Ronald (Sharon) Bynes and Donald (Karen) Bynes both of Pompano Beach, Fla., and John Bynes of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Elnita Morris

ASHBURN — Funeral services for Elnita Morris, 89, will be held at 11 a.m. today, May 10 in the Ashburn First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Morris died Tuesday, May 8, 2007 in Tift Regional Hospital following an extended illness.

Rev. Anthony Wayne Spicer
(February 11, 1929 - August 15, 2011)

Reverend Anthony Wayne Spicer, age 82, passed away on August 15, 2011. Rev. Spicer was a resident of Cedartown, Georgia and had been suffering from a lengthy illness as was being treated by the Amedisys Hospice Services in Cartersville, Ga.

Reverend Spicer was born on February 11, 1929 in Hamilton, Ohio, son of the late Lewis Spicer and the late Meldavine Spicer of Ravenna Kentucky.

Rev. Spicer was preceded in death by four brothers, Mr. Arthur Spicer of Morning View, Kentucky, Harold Glenn Spicer of Peking, Illinois, Johnny Walker, Dayton, Ohio, and Benjamin Darrell of Ravenna, Kentucky.

Reverend Spicer was a Minister of the Church of God out of Cleveland, Tennessee, Headquarters. He was the founder of the Estill County Church of God, where he was the pastor for nine years until his health declined.

Reverend Spicer retired from the Army Bluegrass Depot in Lexington, Kentucky after 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the World War ll and the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years, Faye Corcoran Spicer of Cedartown; daughter and son in law Connie and Kenneth Hulsey of Rome, Ga., a son and daughter in law, Marvin D. Corcoran, Jr. and Virgie Corcoran of Mt, Sterling, Ky., daughter and son in law, Ella and John F. Whelchel of Gainesville, Ga., daughter and son in law, Kimber and Bob Brock of Rockmart, Ga., daughter and son in law, Trina and Steven Shuman of Cedartown, Ga., daughter and son in law, Robin and Troy Harbin, of Valdosta, Ga., daughter and son in law Anita and Rodney Borders of Rockmart, Ga. Rev. Spicer had one deceased step son Larry Hubby of Irvine, Ky. Reverend Spicer is also survived by two sisters and one brother: Opal Marie Clouse of Kettering, Ohio, Beulah Mae Mays, of Irvine Ky., Donald Lewis Spicer of Miamisburg, Ohio.

Reverend Spicer had one special great great grandson Donovan Scoggins who put a special light in his heart and he also had a number of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great- great grandchildren.

Reverend Anthony Spicer will be at the Olin L. Gammage Funeral Home.

Visitation for Rev. Spicer will be Thursday August 18, 2011 at the funeral home from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

Services for Rev. Spicer will be held on Friday August 19, 2011 at the Olin L. Gammage Chapel at 11:00am where he will lie in state until the service hour.

Officiating the service will be: Reverend Mark Willingham, Rev. Elgin Williams, Rev. Gerald Eaves. iIntermentservices will be at the Rockmart Memory Gardens, in Rockmart, Georgia. Full Military Rites will be conducted by the Brown-Wright American Legion Post #12.

Pallbearers will be: Steven Shuman, Rodney Borders, William Hendrix, Sumter “Buzz” Nelson, Donald Warren, Dustin Scoggings and Donovan Scoggings.

A special thanks to Misty Temples who was his caregiver.

George Troup

George Troup of Hugo, Okla., formerly of Cordele, died Sunday, May 6, 2007 in Oklahoma. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by J.W. Williams Funeral Home of Cordele and Vienna.

Beth M. Hollingsworth

HAWKINSVILLE — Memorial services for Beth M. Hollingsworth, 55, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 10 in the chapel of Clark Funeral Home. Burial will be private. Dr. Kelly Pritchett and Dr. Don McClung will officiate the services.

Mrs. Hollingsworth died Monday, May 7, 2007 in Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville.

She was a native of Greene County and was a member of the Hawkinsville First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her mother, Sally Daniel of Hawkinsville; sons, Stephen (Maisie) Pilkinton and Stacy Pilkinton of Hawkinsville; a daughter, Allison H. (Clay) Kernell of Unadilla; a grandson, Hunter Pilkinton of Hawkinsville; and best friends, Sue Shelton and Mitch Myers of Hawkinsville.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family may be contacted at the Hollingsworth residence in Hawkinsville.

Jimmy Johnson

UNADILLA — A memorial service for Jimmy Johnson of Unadilla will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 12 at Rose Hill cemetery in Ashburn, with the Rev. J.D. Scarborough officiating. His remains will be cremated. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Johnson died Saturday, May 5, 2007 as a result of a tragic house fire at his home.

Virgil Lee Reynolds Lawson

CORDELE — Funeral services for Mrs. Virgil Lee Reynolds Lawson will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 12 in Straight Life Pentecostal Holiness Church of Cordele. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. Elders Fred Williams and Curtis Miller will officiate the services.

Mrs. Lawson died Saturday, May 5, 2007 in Coral Springs, Fla.

She was the widow of Jerry Lawson and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her children, Frances (E.J.) Thigpen of Parkland, Fla., Virginia Mary Ann (Ron) Harris of Centerville, James (Cora Lee) Palmer Jr. of Cordele, Henry (Spollie) Reynolds of Warner Robins, J.B. Jones of Atlanta, Dollie Ruth Sims of Hyattville, Md., Robert (Louise) Clark of Graham, N.C. and Sarah Lawson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 26 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family may be contacted at 406 W. Seventh Ave., Cordele.
