Albert L. Wright

ASHBURN — Funeral services for Albert L. Wright, 92, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Perry Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time for the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Wright died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007 in Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany following a lengthy illness.

Lillian Black Williams

CORDELE — Funeral services for Lillian Black Williams were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service with the Revs. Toby Stokes and Clarence Cravey officiating.

Don Winter

ASHBURN — Memorial services for Don Winter, 65, will be announced at a later date. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn has charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Winter died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007 in Tift Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Staci Leanna Barnard

REBECCA — Staci Leanna Barnard, 16, of 316 Lunsford Road, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, in Turner County.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 10, 2006, in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Rebecca with the Rev. Gene Ramsey and the Rev. Brett Jarrell officiating. iIntermentwill be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Miss Barnard was born Dec. 29, 1989, in Pulaski County to David Barnard and Cindy McElmurray Barnard. She had lived in Rebecca for the last eight years, having moved there from Abbeville. She was an 11th grade student at Turner County High School, a member of TCHS 4-H and TCHS FFA. She had received honors at TCHS in English, algebra and trigonometry, TCHS chorus, TCHS band, was TCHS workshop chairperson in FCCLA, and was in the youth apprenticeship program at TCHS. She was a member and GA/ACTEEN at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was employed by Ewing Buick-Pontiac in Ashburn. Staci had previously worked at Walker’s Bar-B-Q in Sycamore.

Survivors include, her mother Cindy M. Barnard of Rebecca; father and step-mother, David J. and Laura Barnard of Pitts; brother, Joshua Cole Brewer of Rebecca; sisters, Macy Barnard and Savannah Barnard of Pitts, and Lindsey Barnard of Abbeville; grandparents, Floyd Leroy and Nancy McElmurray and Jerry and Wilma Nell Barnard all of Rochelle, and Hazel McElmurray of Ashburn; and great-grandmother, Mattie Burnette of Pitts.

The family may be contacted at the residence, 316 Lunsford Road, Rebecca.

Sarah M. Mercer

ATLANTA — Funeral services for Sarah M. Mercer, 77, formerly of Cordele, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5-7 p.m.

Mrs. Mercer died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006, at The Mann House in Atlanta.

She was born on Wednesday, April 24, 1929, in Fulton County. She was the daughter of the late Burkett Dean Murphy Sr. and the late Louise Culpepper Murphy. She was a 1947 gradute of NAPS in Atlanta and a 1951 graduate of Wesleyan College where she received her AB in psychology. She taught the second grade at Inman School in Pickens County from 1951 to 1953. She married the late Joseph Joel Mercer on Saturday, Aug. 15, 1953. Instrumental in the founding of Crisp Academy in 1967, she continued to be a driving force with the school for numerous years. She was a member of the Cordele United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Clay and Connie Mercer of Vienna, and Joel and Angie Mercer of Atlanta; her sisters-in-law, Mrs. Joel T. Murphy of Newnan, and Mrs. Wesley C. Murphy of Fayetteville; her grandchildren, Katy Cahill and her husband Paul, Sally Mercer, Rebecca Mercer, Julia Mercer and Hannah Mercer; and several nieces and nephews.

Hughes & Wright Funeral Home is entrusted with these arrangements.

Louise Fields Farrow

CORDELE — Funeral services for Louise Fields Farrow were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Penia Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Farrow, age 94, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Crisp Regional Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Dooly County to the late Hattie Lulu (Broadaway) and Joseph Marion Fields. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. John Porter Farrow. Beloved siblings who preceded her in death were two sisters, Elma Cape and Pearl Allen, and four brothers, Cecil, Louis, Alonza and Guy. She was a homemaker and member of Penia Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Wallace Farrow and his wife Rose (Morans) of Cordele; her daughter, Carol Clary and her husband Bobby of Bonaire; her sister, Marietta Mixon of Cordele; her grandchildren: Scott (Sheila) Farrow, Margie Clark, Philip (Camille) Clary, Martin (Aimee) Clary and Doug (Anita) Clary; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, June 22, 2009 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent in Mrs. Farrow's memory to Penia Baptist Church.

Mr. Ted Gunter, of Dallas and College Park, died Friday, July 16, 2004. Mr. Luther Charles "Chuck" Banks, 81, of Hapeville, died Friday, June 4, 2004. Mr. Banks, a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army, with 27 years service, was predeceased by his wife; Mary Banks and a son; Kerry Banks. William "Clyde" Norton

William "Clyde" Norton, who departed this earth on May 9th, 2004, at the age of 96, was the great grandson of Andrew Jack Norton, a Baptist Minister from Douglas County, Georgia. Clyde was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth Smith Norton. Together they operated a "Mom and Pop" neighborhood grocery store for many years in Hapeville, Georgia. Later this was taken over by the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Clyde was active in community affairs and served on various committees and boards throughout Fulton County and Georgia. He was one of the first Tax Ass4essors for Hapeville; helped to charter the Tri City Coin Club; a charter member of both the Lions and Exchange Clubs, a charter member of the Hapeville Historical Society, a member of the Hapeville Masonic Lodge #590 F & AM for over 70 years; a member of Yarrab Shrine Temple for over sixty years and he and Ruth served together as Matron and Patron of the Eastern Star. He was voted Mr. Hapeville; Mr. Personality and received Hapeville's Outstanding Citizen Award. He was very active in the First Baptist Church's JOY Sunday School Class. Clyde served in the Navy during WWII and saw action in the European theatre where he received several medals.Clyde is survived by his daughter, Miriam (Ray Allen) and son Gene (Lou) Norton, eight Grandchildren, Carol and Jim Allen, Cindy and Steve Aertker, David Underwood, Bodie "Tripp" Norton, Pamelia and Bud Whidby, Sharon Lamb, Amy and Nelson Sheely, Miller and Connie Allen. Twenty six Great Grandchildrn and one Great Great Granddaughter, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of friends. The visitation will be Tuesday, May 11, 2004 from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m.at the funeral home. Rebecca "Becky" Pettit Caldwell
(September 18, 1947 - May 2, 2011)

Ms. Rebecca "Becky" Pettit Caldwell, age 63, of Cedartown passed away on Monday, May 2, 2011. She was born Sept. 18, 1947 in Sacramento, CA, the daughter of Byron Pettit and the late Gilda Kerns Pettit.

Ms. Caldwell is survived by daughters, Stacie Caldwell Sanders, Laurel Womack and Mary “MiMi” Pope; son, Ty Caldwell; father, Byron Pettit; brother, Gray Pettit. She is also survived by grandchildren, Shea Griffith, Tyler Griffith, Adrianna Sanders, Haden Pope, Brian Pope, Savannah Nix, Trevor Caldwell, Dylan Smith, Kade Smith, Zack Womack, Breanna Womack, Elizabeth Womack, Owen Womack; great-grandchildren, Lexie Pope, Dreven Pope, Amberley Pope, Braylin Pope, and Zaylee Womack. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Ms. Caldwell’s wishes she was cremated. A graveside memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, May 5, at 3:00 p.m. in the Northview cemetery with Rev. Wayne Benefield and Rev. Nancy English officiating.

Perry V. Young, of Stockbridge, died Friday, March 5, 2004. Mr. Young was retired from Delta Air Lines as a sheet metal mechanic, with 30 years of service. He was preceeded in death by his parents Louie L. & Minnie Kirkley Young, and a brother, Larry J. Young. Surviving are his wife; Carolyn McKinney Young, children; Scott & Darcia Young, Jonesboro, Susan & Kevin Teate, Stockbridge, a brother & sister in-law; Sam & Chris Young, Newnan, and 6 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 8 at New Testament Baptist Church, 2352 Old Rex Morrow Road, Ellenwood, GA 30294, with remains in state at 10 a.m. Rev. Curtis Turner officiating. Interment, Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church. Gladys Ramsey Whitlow, of Atlanta, died Saturday, January 31, 2004. KENNETH L. WHISLER

Mr. Kenneth L. Whisler, of East Point, died Friday, January 30, 2004. Mr. Whisler was a retiree of the Owens-Illinois Corp. in Hapeville, and a US Marine WWII Veteran, serving in the Pacific Arena. He was preceded in death by his wife; Elizabeth A. "Tad" Whisler, and is survived by his daughter and son in-law; Pamela & Don Cox, Mableton, grandchildren; Katie and Jason Cox, and sisters; Mary Sparks, Monroe, MI and Elizabeth DeMoss, Roanoke, VA. A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 3 from 2 until 4 p.m. at Donehoo-Lewis Funeral Home, Hapeville. Remains will then be sent to Carpenter & Ford F.H., 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, WVA 26554, for service and interment.
