William "Bill" Taylor

William (Bill) J. Taylor age 69 of Clayton, GA passed away March 22, 2003 at his residence.

Bill Taylor was born March 12, 1934 in Rabun County. He was life time resident of Clayton, member of Battle Branch Baptist Church, and member of the Masonic Lodge, Rabun Gap Lodge 265.

He is son of the late Charlie Gordon Taylor and Jeanette Burrell Taylor.

He was preceded in death by one son Bill Taylor Jr. and one daughter Liana T Jenkins, and one brother Jim Taylor.

He survived by three sons Jeff Taylor and Brent Taylor of Clayton, and Trent Taylor of Watkinsville Ga. Three daughters Lynett Chambley, Vernie Burrel, Vedia Bennett, Kera Taylor of Clayton and
Eva Tolbert of Watkinsville GA. Fifteen Grandchildren and Eleven Great Grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home Monday March 24, 2003 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM

Funeral service will be in Beck Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday March 25, 2003 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Deck James and Rev Jarves Bennett officiating. With burial at Wiley Cemetery.

Michael Ray Houck

Michael Ray Houck (Mike), age 45 of Mountain City Ga passed away March 20, 2003.

Mr. Houck was born in Rabun County February 26, 1958 the son of the late Lee and Bertha Kell Houck. He was a 1977 a Graduate of Carolina High School.

He was preceded in death by a brother Richard (Dick) Wayne Houck and one Nephew Lenny David.

He survived by a wife Brenda Kaye Houck of Clayton, one daughter Kayla Houck of Norcross GA, three brothers and two sisters-in-law Tom and Caroline Houck of Clayton, GA Ronald and Liz Houck of Suwanee, GA, Jerry Houck Of Jackson GA; Two sisters and Brothers-in-law Jean and Eddie Norrie of Greenville SC, Barbara and Farrell Martin of Easley SC., also survived by several special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friend at Beck Funeral Home Sunday March 23, 2003 from 12:00 until 2:00 PM.

Funeral services will be in the chapel of Beck Funeral Home Sunday march 23, 2003 at 2:00 PM with Rev. James Turpin officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the Antioch Methodist Church Cemetery.

Donation can be made to the Antioch Methodist Church cemetery fund in memory of Mike Houck.

Kenneth Neal Hackney
(April 12, 1941 - July 9, 2011)

Mr. Kenneth Neal Hackney, age 70, of Cedartown, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2011. He was born on April 12, 1941 in Cedartown; the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Curtis & Florence Wray Hackney.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Jane Davis Hackney; sister, Helen Hackney; and parents.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Martin West; grandchildren, Josh Kirkpatrick, Betenia Faith West, Simon West, and Oliver West; sisters, Shelia Rabun & Nancy McLendon; and brother, Stanley Hackney.

The funeral for Mr. Kenneth Hackney will be conducted on Monday, July 11, 2011 at two o’clock in the afternoon in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Dr. David Taylor and Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating.

iIntermentwill follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 10, 2011 from six o’clock in the evening until eight o’clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Joe Rabun, Glenn Mitchell, Olin Hackney, Jimmy McLendon, Kelly McLendon, Ron Ray, Jim Mayben and Rodney Saucier.

The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for Mr. Kenneth Neal Hackney.

William "Bill" Harrison Owens

William Harrison Owens “Bill” age 53 of Clayton passed away on March 4, 2003.

He was born in Rabun County on December 16, 1949 the son of late Alvin Owens and Pearl Idell Nations Owens.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Alvin Owens Jr.

He was survived by his wife Edith Ann Gibson Owens of Clayton, one son Michael Lee Whitaker of Holly Hills Fl.; three daughters Billie J. Owens Dotson of Clayton GA, Bobbie Jo Owens Dotson of Habersham County GA, Bonnie Jean Owens of the home; two brothers Alton Owens, and Gene Owens both of Clayton GA; five sisters Gladys Clem of Waycross GA, Betty Gunter of Clayton, Eva Campbell of Otto NC, Linda Ramey Of Clayton GA, Katherine Owens of Clayton GA; four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Service will be held 10:00 Am Thursday March 6, 2003 at Clayton Church Of God with Rev. James Pendrey officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.

Donations may be made to the family in lieu of flowers at 16 Owens Lane Clayton GA 30525.

Conrad S. Rossignol

Conrad S. Rossignol age 71 of Clayton passed away on March 6, 2003.

He was born in St Marc Quebec, Canada on March 3, 1931 and worked as Handyman. He is a veteran of the Canadian Army.

He is survived by his loving and beloved wife Louise Mary Rossignol of Clayton, Three sons Guy and Andrew Rossignol of Canada and Donald Becker of Cheektowaga, NY. Three daughters Barbara Denton and Dottie McCullar of Clayton and Beverly Johnston of Cummings, GA. He has five brothers and two sisters, fourteen Grandchildren and seven Great Grandchildren.

A family memorial will be held at a later date.

Alton Smith

Mr. Alton Smith “smitty”, age 85 of Clayton passed away January 8th 2003 at Athens Regional Hospital.

Mr. Smith was born June 22, 1917, in Norcross GA. He was pharmacist for many years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Clayton and served on the official board for a number of years. Past President and founding member of Clayton Rotary Club. Past President Walnut Flats Hunting Club. Former Fire Chief of Clayton V.F.D. On Board of Directors for the Bank of Clayton. Alumni of Southern College of Pharmacy. Veteran WWII, served in the Navy and was present at raising of the flag at Iwo Jima.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Tillie Smith and Lola Belle Yearwood Young.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie Green Smith of the home; Two Sons Alton Smith Jr. of Kennesaw, GA., John Mark Smith of Clayton, Ga., Four Grandchildren and Three Great Grandchildren and number of nieces and nephews also so survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday January 11, 2003 at 2:00 PM, at First United Methodist Church of Clayton with Rev. Warren Huddelston Officiating.

Memorials can be made to The New Family Life Center of First United Methodist Church P.O. Box 703, Clayton, GA. 30525, in memory of Mr. Alton Smith.

Gloria Mae Sheaffer Bentley
(August 10, 1938 - May 9, 2011)

Mrs. Gloria Mae Sheaffer Bentley, age 72 of Cedartown, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2011. She was born on August 10, 1938 in Junction City, Kansas; she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lee and Ruth Naomi Weaver Sheaffer.

Mrs. Bentley was survived by her loving husband, Mr. Wayne Bentley; daughters, Gail Lynn Bentley and Katherine A. Bentley Shirley; brother, David “Dave” Sheaffer and grandchildren, Andrew Wiggins, Mark Bentley and Meghann Bentley.

The funeral arrangements for Mrs. Bentley will be conducted on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at one o’clock in the afternoon in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Gable and Rev. Marvin Mobbs officiating.

iIntermentwill follow in the Northview Cemetery.

The family of Mrs. Bentley will receive family and friends on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 from six o’clock in the evening until eight o’clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The follow gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers; Mark Bentley, Tommy Garner, Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Yeoman, Doyle Lanham, Ricky Lee, Ronald Brannon and Joey Williams.

Sallie Bleckley Beaty

Sallie Bleckley Beaty age 74 of Clayton passed away January 23, 2003 at Mountain View Community Living Center.

Mrs. Beaty was born in Rabun County on November 5, 1928 the daughter of the late George Lutz Bleckley and Beulah E. Speed Bleckley. She was a member of Antioch Methodist Church and served as secretary and Treasurer for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her husband John M. Beaty, one son David Leroy Beaty, and one sister Carlene Rogers.

Survivors include her two daughters, Lula Jo Beaty Thurmond of Rabun Gap, Katherine Beaty Asherbranner of Chechero, one son Sam Beaty of Clayton, five brothers Marcus Lutz Bleckley of Pontiac MI, Warren Grist Bleckley of Fort Meyers Florida, Jeremiah Bleckley of Bassett VA, Douglas Bleckley and Nathan Bleckley both of Clayton, two sisters Lena Bleckley Deal of North Augusta SC, Cleo Bleckley Fountain of Rabun Gap, five grand-children Teresa Thurmond Gentry, Sheri Thurmond, Sandra Thurmond, Laura Thurmond, Lynn Seebach, two great granddaughters and one great grandson, a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends on Saturday January 25, 2003 from 2:30 PM until 4:00 PM and from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Beck Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday January 26, 2003 in the chapel of Beck Funeral Home with Rev. James Turpin and Rev Sammie Maxwell Officiating burial will follow in the Antioch Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Antioch Metthodist Church Building fund.

James Lex Lovell

James Lex Lovell, age 79 of Burton Community passed away January 10, 2003 at his residence after an extended illness.

Mr. Lovell was born April 4, 1923 the son of the late James Andrew Lovell and Lavonia Kerby Lovell. He was a life long resident of Rabun County and had retired from the United States Forest Service.

He is survived by two sons Phil Lovell of Clayton, Danny Lovell of Tiger and three grandchildren Jim Lovell, Janet Lovell, Nicole Lovell

Family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home Saturday January 11, 2003 from 6:00 PM till 9:00 PM.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Sunday January 12, 2003 in the Chapel of Beck Funeral Home with Rev. Ronia Hunter and Dr. Jim Britt officiating, burial will follow in the Timpson Cemetery.
