Mr. William Preston Todd

Mr. William Preston Todd, age 88, died Tuesday morning at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. The Tattnal County native was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during World War II. After his military service, Mr. Todd moved to Haines City, Fla. where he resided and worked in the produce business for 29 years. In 1974 Mr. Todd moved to Statesboro and along with his son Carroll they owned and operated Big Red’s Produce for many years. Mr. Todd retired several years ago. He was a member of the Statesboro Lions Club and the Statesboro First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Harmony Sunday School Class.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years Hazel F. Todd; a son and daughter-in-law, James Carroll and Renette Todd of Gainesville; a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine Todd Story and Eddie Story of Fayetteville; four sisters, Carolyn Purvis of Glennville, Medra Akins of Hollywood, Fla., Novidean Durrence of Winter Haven, Fla. and Ruth Lomas of Olsmar, Fla.; a brother, Dwight Todd of Auburndale, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Christa Story Barnes and her husband Travis, Rebecca Story, Lyssa Story, Jonathan Story, Sarah Story, Benjamin Story, Christopher Todd, Lori Carter, Courtney Todd and Andrew Todd and two great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Matthew.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00pm at the Statesboro First Baptist Church with Dr. Ralph Lightsey officiating assisted by Rev. Fred Maddox and Jeffrey Rushing.

Burial will be in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Harmony Sunday School Class, Bill Williams, Jeff Rainey and Randy Linto.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Statesboro First Baptist Church Building Fund, 108 North Main St., Statesboro, Ga. 30458

Mr. Arnold Jefferson Harville

Statesboro, Ga.

Arnold Jefferson Harville, age 67, died Saturday at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah following a brief illness. The native and life long resident of Bulloch County was a member of the first graduating class of Southeast Bulloch High School in 1956. He was employed for several years with Ford Motor Co., Franklin Chevrolet for 15 years and had worked for the past 20 years for Blitch Place Farms. Mr. Harville was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his father, T.J. Harville, Sr. and a sister, Saralyn H. Zetterower. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He will be sadly missed.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Ann Bailey Harville of Statesboro; a son Arnold J. Harville, Jr. of Statesboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer H. and Donnie Williams of Statesboro; a granddaughter, Saralyn Bailey Williams of Statesboro; his mother, Ahmetta Deloach Harville of Statesboro; four sisters and brothers- in-law, Sue H. and Edwin Harris and Diane H. and Mike Herndon both of Statesboro, Annette H. and Fred Daniels of Claxton and Tamra H. and Greg Newman of Conyers; five brothers and sisters-in-law, T.Joseph and Mary Frances Harville, Jr., Kenneth H. and June Harville, Tommy D. and Donna Harville, Herman B. and Debra Harville and Ernie S.and Brenda Harville all of Statesboro. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Dr. Reland Morgan officiating.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Russell Bailey, David Harville, Greg Lewis, Michael Harville, Scott Newman, Hugh Harville, Matt Harville and Virgil Harville

Burial will be in the Brannen Family Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 5105 Paulson Street Savannah, Ga. 31405.

Mr. Jack Newton

Statesboro, Ga.

Mr. Jack Newton, age 55, died Wednesday at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was the owner and operator of Newton Sport Shop since 1980. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Thompson Pasture and the Island Hunting Club. He was a loving and caring father and husband. He was preceded in death by his parents Doy and Kitty Newton; his brother-in-law Billy Cook, and his mother in law Marion Ference.

Surviving is his wife of 35 years Susan Ference Newton of Statesboro, two daughters and one fiancé; Kimberly Newton, and J.J. Newton and Jody Wiggins all of Statesboro; His mother-in-law and father-in-law; Bill and Lois Ference of Statesboro; A sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Patti and Ostell Scarborough of Greenwood, S.C. one brother Danny Newton and his friend Sybil Lawson; two sisters and a brother-in-law; Faye and Garland Nelson of Marshallville Ga, and Bonnie Cook of Statesboro. His extended family includes; Clyde and Tammy Wilson of Statesboro, Jane Newton of Brooklet, and Bobby and Jean Marie Deloach of Statesboro. Several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Newton will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Pittman Park United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Huling officiating.

The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Burial will be in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Bill Akins, Terry Permenter, Jerry Permeneter, Gary Bland, Steve Brown, and Jerel Hodges.

Honorary pallbearers will be Thompson Pasture Club, Island Hunting Club and The Community Brothers Fishing Auxiliary Club.

The family requests that memorial contributions to be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice P.O. Box 531 Statesboro, Ga. 30459; Pittman Park United Methodist Church Building Fund 1102 Fair Rd Statesboro Ga. or to a charity of donors choice.

Mr. Thomas Lamar Olliff

Statesboro, Ga.

Mr. Thomas Lamar Olliff, Jr., age 53, died Sunday evening at East Georgia Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Mr. Olliff was a Bulloch County native .He worked at Brooks Instruments for many years and for the past several years was self-employed, working in construction / maintenance. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Olliff was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Thomas Lamar Olliff, Sr., a sister DeRita Smith, and two brothers, Terrell and David Olliff.

Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Alisa and Jeremy Sapp of Statesboro, and Tina and Sam Bennett of Rincon. Two grandchildren, Jordan and Britney; his mother, Mrs. Jincie Olliff; a loving companion, Teresa Lewis, and her children Andrea and Cory Lewis; four sisters, Delores and Cary Taylor, Renaee and Jerry Rushing, Cindy and Breck Harville and Karen O. and Michael Iler, all of Statesboro. Three brothers; Greg G. and Tonya Olliff, Phil Olliff and Kevin Olliff; all of Statesboro.

and a very special brother, Frankie Smith, of Claxton. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Wednesday in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Osborn and Lic. Dean Robbins officiating.

Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Corbett Deloach, Hayward Robbins, Donnie Strickland, Jerry Walker, Dudley Hanna, Louie Hanna, and Dennis White.

Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. David Scarborough.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mr. Donnie "Sam" Bunch

Statesboro, Ga.

Mr. Donnie “Sam” Lee Bunch, age 27, died Tuesday from injuries he received in an automobile accident. He was born in Augusta, Ga, but had lived in Statesboro for all of his life. He was employed by Best Way Movers.

Surviving is mother; Lela Bunch one sister; Connie Bunch and one brother Duey Bunch Jr. all of Portal, Ga.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Jarriel officiating.

Burial will be in Portal City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mr. Clarence Wilbur Johnston Sr.

Statesboro, Ga

Mr. Clarence Wilbur Johnston, Sr. age 80, died Tuesday July 27, 2004 at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah following a brief illness. The Atlantic Beach, Florida native lived in the Jacksonville Beach area for many years. He graduated from Fletcher High School and then served in the U.S. Army 513 Airborne Division in World War II. Mr. Johnston was employed with Ford Motor Company Tractor Division for 40 years before his retirement in the late 1980’s. He and his family moved to Statesboro in 1971 at that time he entered Georgia Southern College (now Georgia Southern University) and earned his BA in Business Administration. He was a former member of the Statesboro Kiwanis Club. Mr. Johnston had an avid interest in square dancing, round dancing, fitness and hunting. He was a member of the Neptune Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Garcia Johnston.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Clarence “Rusty” Johnston, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM and James T. and Billie Johnston of Neptune Beach, FL.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and David Young of Jacksonville Beach, FL and Kimberley and Philip Harshman of Apopka, FL.; two sisters, Mary Jo Moore of Pine Mountain, GA. and Katherine Doulet of Amelia Island, Fl.; two brothers, Jesse Joe Johnston, Jr. of Atlantic Beach, Fl. and Bobby Johnston of Pine Mountain, GA.; six grandchildren, Dana Voiselle, Denise Rogers, Jeremy Johnston, Jennifer Johnston, Brenna Harshman and Daniel Harshman; three great grandchildren, Ellison Voiselle, Shelby Voiselle and Darren Rogers.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Additional visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd Jacksonville Beach Fl 32250.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am in the chapel of the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Bary and Rev. Steve McCoy officiating.

Burial will be in the Warren Smith cemetery in Jacksonville Beach.

Pallbearers will be Clayton Joseph Doulet, Gary Mikell Snyder, Richard Englert, Jessie Joe Johnston Jr, Bobby Johnston, and David Johnston.

The family request that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Mr. Paul Vincent Dell

Statesboro, Ga.

Mr. Paul Vincent “Butch” Dell, age 63, died Saturday at East Georgia Regional Medical Center after a long illness. The Greensburg, Pennsylvania native was a retired Truck Driver. He was preceded in death by his grand parents Verner and Cecelia Dell Sr. and his parents Verner and Hilda Dell Jr.

Surviving are his daughter and son-law; Edward and Deborah Cassidy of Brooklet, Ga; one granddaughter Hilary Cassidy of Brooklet; two brothers and one sister-in-law Mike and Helen Dell of Greensburgh PA and Mark Dell of Statesboro; two sisters and brothers-in-law; Rick and Cheryl Larson, Joe and Patty Kostelnik all of Greensburgh PA.

Two nephews, three great nephews and two nieces also survive.

The family will have a private memorial service.

Mr. Doug Spratlin

Statesboro, Ga.

Mr. Douglas (Doug) Terry Spratlin, age 53, died Thursday evening at the Memorial Health University Medical Center following a brief illness. The Athens Georgia native was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in business management. Mr. Spratlin served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. He served as the District Supervisor for Helig-Meyers Furniture Company for 24 years and was currently the manager of Lawson’s New World Home Furnishings in Statesboro. He was a member of the East Main Church of God and a former member of the Statesboro Church of God. Doug will always be remembered as a good husband, father and friend but most of all as a prayer warrior.

Surviving are his wife, Elisa Ward Spratlin of Statesboro; a son, Jason Spratlin of Statesboro; a daughter, Christy Spratlin of Statesboro; his parents, Ted and Fay Spratlin of Athens; two sisters, Melissa Vaughn and Charissa Thomas both of Atlanta; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Sunday at the Statesboro Church of God with Rev. Edward Wood officiating assisted by Rev. Wayne Swanson and Rev. Ann Braswell.

Burial will be in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Tony Brown, Jerry Culp, Gene Davis, Clark Blitch, Randy Laster, John Woodcock, Hugh Anderson and Jerry Abney.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
