Doris Frances Weatherby Jarrett
(October 23, 1924 - July 22, 2011)
Ms. Doris Frances Weatherby Jarrett, age 86 of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2011. She was born on October 23, 1924 in Floyd County; she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John and Oloa Frances Maddox Weatherby.

Ms. Jarrett is survived by daughter and son-law-in, Carolyn Jarrett Timms and James; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny Jarrett and Gloria; three sister-in-laws; 35 grandchildren, 90 great-grandchildren; 70 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews survive.

Ms. Jarrett is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Johnnie Andrew "Red" Jarrett; daughters, Martha Ann Daniels and Doris Elizabeth Jarrett; son, Marion Milton Jarrett; five sisters; five brothers; grandson, Maurice Jarrett and four great-grandchildren, Brittany Jarrett, Hope Jarrett, William James Timms and Dallas Williams.

The funeral service for Ms. Jarrett will be conducted on Monday, July 25, 2011 at one o’clock in the afternoon at Friendly Baptist Church with Rev. John Redding, Rev. Jerome Smith and Rev. Joe Shoemaker officiating.

iIntermentwill follow in the Northview Cemetery.

The family of Ms. Jarrett will receive family and friends at the residence of Ms. Jarrett, 1200 Rockmart Highway, Cedartown, Georgia 30125, on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at five o’clock in the evening through Monday, July 25, 2011.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers; Kenny Reeves, James White, Arthur White, Jr., Rodney Williams, Scott Jarrett and Kenneth Timms.

The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for Ms. Doris Frances Weatherby Jarrett.

Brenda Sue Noel
(October 1, 1947 - August 8, 2011)
Mrs. Brenda Sue Noel, age 63 of Cedartown, passed away on Monday, August 08, 2011. She was born on October 1, 1947 in Cedartown. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Quillie and Mattie Gladden Truett.

Mrs. Noel is survived by her loving husband, Lloyd Noel; daughters, Amanda Noel Padgett, Margaret Noel Shaw, Mary Lee Hulsey and July Hatton; sons, Michael Noel and Ray Noel; sisters, Willene Brown and Helen Goble; brother, Willie Truett; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Noel is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Bonnell Redden and Wylene Truett and brothers, James Truett, Johnny Truett and Linus Truett.

In keeping with Mrs. Noel’s wishes she was cremated. A private family memorial gathering was held.

Deborah Princess Cook Brown
(May 26, 1962 - August 3, 2011)
Mrs. Deborah Princess Cook Brown, 49, of 263 S.D. Hicks Rd., Villa Rica, GA passed away, Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at her residence battling an extended illness.

She was born May 26, 1962 in Carrollton, Georgia. She was employed at SunTrust Bank. She was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Villa Rica where she was actively involved as a Sunday School Teacher for the 5-8 year old class, the Ida Bell Circle, the Amazing Grace Ladies Group, the Crochet Group and sang in the Choir. Her hobbies included traveling, crocheting and reading.

Remaining immediate family two daughters, Christie Brown of Dallas and Lindsey Brown of Dallas, mother and step-father, Mary Couch Ward and Robert Ward of Villa Rica, father and step-mother, William Melbern Cook and Ida Mae Cook of Cedartown, two brothers, Allen and Samantha Cook of Waco and Jeffrey Cook of Villa Rica, a grandson that is due August 13, 2011, Clayton Scott Smith, four aunts and five uncles.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 7, 2011 at 2:00 PM from the First Pentecostal Church in Villa Rica with Rev. Eddie Allen and Rev. Stanley Flowers officiating. Musical selections will be by the Church Choir. iIntermentwill follow in the Carroll Memory Gardens in Carrollton.

The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica, Saturday, August 6, 2011 from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM.

Frank Harold Burgess, Sr.
(December 14, 1926 - August 18, 2011)
Mr. Frank Harold Burgess, Sr., age 84, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2011. He was born on December 14, 1926 in Chattanooga, TN.

Mr. Frank Harold Burgess, Sr., was a Cedartown icon, proven by his loyalty and passion for his community.

In 1947, his radio announcing career began. After working at several radio stations, Frank settled with his family in Cedartown in 1962; this is when his career at WGAA Radio started. Mr. Burgess retired with 45 years of service. Frank loved his community and his community loved him. He was indeed “ the golden voice of the Double A”.

Mr. Frank had the ability to remember a child from little league sports all the way through their high school and college careers. He felt such pleasure in making a child feel important, no matter what the level of play. This trait made a dynamic difference in the life of these children.

Mr. Frank was the Sports Announcer for the CHS Bulldogs for 45 years. Frank Burgess WAS the Voice of the Bulldogs!

Mr. Burgess is survived by his sons and daughter-in-laws, Frank Harold Burgess, Jr. and wife, Peggy, and John Davis Burgess, Sr., and wife Vicky, daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Ann Burgess Dingler and husband Steven; sister, Mildred Burgess Sinor, sister-in-law, Frances Davis Hinson; grandchildren, Brad Burgess and wife Lori, Anna Burgess Wilson and husband Jason, Steven Dingler and wife Jenny, TW Dingler and wife Jodi, Johnna Burgess Glenn and husband Dustin and Dave Burgess and fiancé Kirsten; great-grandchildren, Griffin Burgess, Ella Burgess, Will Dingler, Drew Dingler, Abigail Dingler, Reid Dingler, Tillery Dingler, and Katie Lynn Glynn and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Burgess is preceded in death by his wife, Annie Ruth Davis Burgess; parents, Mr. and Mrs. George J. and Bertha Mable Presswood Burgess; sister, Frances James and brother, William “Bud” Burgess.

The funeral arrangements for Mr. Frank Harold Burgess, Sr. will be conducted on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at eleven o’clock in the morning at First Baptist Church of Cedartown with Dr. David Taylor, Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating and Mr. Frank Burgess, Jr. and Mr. Bill Lundy speaking.

Mr. Burgess will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral hour at First Baptist Church.

iIntermentwill be in the Northview cemetery with full Masonic Rites by the Caledonia Lodge #121 and West Georgia Masonic Memorial Club.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 19, 2011, from six o’clock in the evening until nine o’clock in the evening at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The family is accepting flowers, however donations can be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 101 North College Street, Cedartown, GA 30125; The American Cancer Society, 1825 Barrett Lakes Blvd. NW, Suite 280, Kennesaw, GA 30144; or the Shriners’ Children’s Hospital, PO BOX 183, Cedartown, GA 30125.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers; Brad Burgess, Steven Dingler, TW Dingler, Dave Burgess, Jason Wilson, and Dustin Glenn.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Lundy, Gary Martin, Dr. Jerry Weaver, Doc Ayers, Jimmy Vincent, Joe McLendon and any former CHS Bulldogs football, basketball and baseball players and coaches from the 1962 through 2007 seasons.

BERNICE JOHNSON
July 17, 1921 - Sept. 21, 2000
Mrs. Bernice Nicholson Johnson, 79, passed away in Cochran, Ga., on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Grady County, Ga., July 17, 1921, to the late William and Jeanie Belle Gallops Nicholson. She was married to Theo A. Johnson on Dec. 25, 1937. He preceded her in deth on Sept. 26, 1999. Mrs. Johnson was a dedicated homemaker and a member of the First Assemby of God Church, Thomasville, Ga.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at the First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. David Lamb officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, Ga.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Peggy Johnson, Gray, Ga.; grandchildren, Nathan Johnson, Gray and Teres and Carlton Unruh, Albany, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jonathan and Ashley Unruh, all of Albany; and a sister, Mrs. Susie Waters, Thomasville.

Clark Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ALLEN SOLOMON JR.
September 23, 2000

Mr. Allen George Solomon Jr., 49, of Cairo, Ga., passed away at his home on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000.

Mr. Solomon was born in Bridgetown, N.J. to Mr. Allen George Solomon Sr. of Cairo and the late Dorice Orrice Solomon. He was a welder with Allen Industries.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at Clark Funeral Home Chapel, Cairo, with the Rev. Jimmy Weaver officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Solomon family at 235 Dollar Road, Cairo, Ga. 31728.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Wilson Solomon, whom he married March 17, 1979, Cairo; daughters, Tiffany Nicole Solomon, Ochlocknee, Ga., and Ashley Renee Solomon, Cairo; a son, Allen George Solomon III, Cairo; a stepdaughter, Jessica Bond, San Angelo, Texas; a step granddaughter, Harley Nirvana Biggie, San Angelo; his father, Allen George Solomon, Cairo; sisters, Dorice Timmons, Pt. Salerno, Fla., Sandra Solomon, Cairo, Cathy Moses, Whigham, Ga., Eleanora Mauldin, Andalusia, Ala., and Rose Ann Manasco, Cairo; brothers, John Solomon, Michigan, Michael Solomon, Metcalf, Ga., Thomas Soloman, Whigham and Freddie Solomon, Pt. Salerna.

BETRICE CASTLEBERRY
Dec. 30, 1909 - Sept. 23, 2000
Miss Betrice A. Castleberry, 90, of Ochlocknee, Ga., passed away at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, Ga., on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000.

Miss Castleberry was born in Grady County, Ga., Dec. 30, 1909, to the late James David and Mary Elizabeth Singletary Castleberry. She was a lifetime resident of Grady County. She was retired from Coats and Clark Company and was of the Baptist faith.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at Pine Forest Baptist Church in Grady County with the Revs. Hugh Lee Brinkley and Wayne Meadows officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Pine Forest Cemetery.

Active pallbearers included Randy Brinson, Eric Brinson, Leon Carlton, James Jenkins, Joe Williams and Joe Miller.

Survivors include nieces, Marie Lindsey, Grady County, Patricia Sue Ross, Miami, Fla., and Lynette Hudson, Elloree, S.C.; and nephews, Fenton Castleberry, Grady County and Dennis Castleberry, Radcliff, Kent.

ELSIE SMILEY
Oct. 23, 1938-Oct. 3, 2001
Mrs. Elsie Mae Smiley, 62, of Reno, Ga., passed away Oct. 3, 2001, at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, Ga.

Mrs. Smiley was born in Hartsfield, Ga., on Oct. 23, 1938, to the late John Henry and Hattie Mae White. She was a lifetime resident of Grady County. She attended Grady County public schools and was a member of the St. Luke P.B. Church, where she served on the Deaconess Board.

Services were held at St.Luke Primitive Baptist Church, Reno, on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at 3:30 p.m. with Elder Moses Harrison officiating. iIntermentfollowed at St. Luke Cemetery, Reno.

Active pallbearers were Greg Gurley, Aaron White, Malcom Harris, John Henry White Jr., Charles Hightower and Leran White.

Honorary pallbearers were the members of the deacon board of St. Luke P.B. Church.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. James Edward Smiley; two sons, Jerome (Maxine) of Cairo, and Darryl of Reno; three daughters Sandra (Chester) Holley of Tallahassee, Fla., Mary (Ike) Steward of Glenwood, Ga., and Cheryl Smiley of Havana, Fla.; one Goddaughter Tiffany Miller of Cairo; one granddaughter Dee Dee (Gus) Mango, one great-granddaughter Zarian Mango of Cairo; five grandsons, Darryl, Jr., Debrale and Chadrick, all of Thomasville, Ga., and Jonathan and Jerome, Jr., both of Cairo; a loving mother-in-law, Ida Mae Smiley of Tallahassee; five sisters Ethelene (Louis) Garrett of Daytona Beach, Fla., Catherine (Alvin) Randolph of Chicago, Ill., Lizzie (Charles) Gaines, and Callie (Charles) Hightower, all of Reno, and Helen (Charles) Baker of Cairo; three brothers that preceded her in death, John Henry, Council Lee, and Roosevelt White; two sisters that preceded her in death, Johnnie Mae and Josphine White; three aunts, Ozie Lee White of Cairo; Tennie Pearl Johnson of Trenton, N.J., and Mozella Green of Moultrie, Ga.; one brother-in-law, Bobby (Julia) Smiley of Calvary, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Alberta Williams of Tallahassee; a dear nephew, Anthony White of Thomasville; and a host of uncles, nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends, including her special friend, Alice Johnson.

ALPHA DAVIS
July 6, 1907-Sept. 30, 2001

Mrs. Alpha Irene Davis, 94 of Camilla, Ga., passed away at the Mitchell County Convalescence Center on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001.

Mrs. Davis was born July 6, 1907, in Thomas County, Ga., to the late Charlie Cooper and Julia Redding Cooper. She was married to James Burton Davis, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Davis was a dedicated homemaker and a member of the Faith Baptist Church. She was a very devoted and loved mother and grandmother. She taught by example. She was a very caring and giving person.

Services were held at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. A.C. Gilliard officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Union Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Grady County, Ga.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, J.W. and Jessie Davis, Hartsfield, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law, Olga and Eugene White, Thomasville, Ga., and Shelby and Harvey Hurst, Meigs, Ga.; grandchildren, Keith and Von Davis, Scottie and Amy Davis, Dr. James and Casi White, Beverly and David Theobal, Mike and Denise Hurst, Gary Hurst and Steve and Amy Hurst; and great-grandchildren, Kitty Davis, Anna Davis, Samuel Davis, Cole White, Becky Theobald, Hayley Theobald, Chris Theobald, Daniel Hurst, Kimberly Hurst, Brian Hurst and Nicholas Hurst. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Davis and a great-granddaughter, Kimberly Theobald.

MINNIE DOZIER
Oct. 3, 1910-Oct. 1, 2001

Mrs. Minnie Lee Jackson Dozier, 90, of Leary, Ga., passed away in Thomasville, Ga., on Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Archbold Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Dozier was born in Calhoun County, Ga., on Oct. 3, 1910, to the late Charles McQuinn and Ada Mansfield Jackson. She was married to Pierce B. Dozier who preceded her in death in 1977. Mrs. Dozier was a retired banker for the Jordan Banking Company, Leary, and a member of the Leary Baptist Church.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at Leary Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Pier officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Morgan Methodist Church Cemetery, Morgan, Ga.

Active pallbearers were Ed Jackson, Truman Jackson, Gene Jackson, Ralph Jackson, Brian Chason, Kevin Chason, Jimmy Jackson and Ralph Jackson Jr.

Survivors include a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

RUDOLPH MAXWELL
Jan. 8, 1923 - Oct. 2, 2001

Mr. Rudolph Maxwell, 78, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001 at Grady General Hospital, Cairo.

Mr. Maxwell was born Jan. 8, 1923, in Grady County, Ga., to the late Leon Clifford and Melissa Coker Maxwell. He was a lifetime resident of Grady County, residing at 851 Ponder Road, Whigham, Ga. Mr. Maxwell was an air conditioner repairman and a farmer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Cairo. He served in the Navy during World War II and was also a member and past president of the Lions Club, member of the American Legion Post #122, VFW, and a volunteer deputy for Grady County.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at First Baptist Church, Cairo with the Rev. Ron McCaskill and Mr. David Ulmer officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo.

Active pallbearers were Jason Maxwell, Stan Womble, Tim Kines, Rick Kines, Leroy Ulmer and Terry Max Maxwell.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Fishermen’s Sunday School Class and W.O. Bell.

Survivors include his wife, Winifred Perkins Maxwell, whom he married June 20, 1947, Whigham, Ga.; a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Buck Womble, Tallahassee, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Donna C. Maxwell, Monroeville, Ala.; and grandchildren, Jason Maxwell, Hickory, N.C., Stephanie Maxwell, Tallahassee, and Stan Womble, Tallahassee.

Clark Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
