Mr. Joseph W. Watson, 76, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2001, at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, Ga.

Mr. Watson was born July 3, 1925, in Quitman, Ga., to the late Winfield Scott and Ruth Lindsey Watson. He was a longtime resident of Grady County, residing at 154 Christopher Ave., Whigham, Ga. Mr. Watson was a member of the Cairo First Freewill Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #122. He served in the Army during World War II.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2001, at Cairo First Freewill Baptist Church, Cairo, with the Rev. W.J. Plymel and W. G. Turner officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo.

Active pallbearers included Kelvin Harrell, E.W. Mitchell, Edward Baxter, Ronnie Bell, Norman Bryant and Walter Brady.

Honorary pallbearers were The Hardy’s Gang, the American Legion Post #122, Lester Bishop, Paul Thorsby, Raymond Hurst, Jimmy Carver, John Spivey, Mac Harrison, Walter Owens and Dewey Owens.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl Smith Watson, whom he married July 5, 1947, Whigham; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Ellen Watson, Cairo, and William and Linda Watson, Whigham; grandsons, Bryan Watson, Cairo, Sean Watson, Whigham, and Scott Watson, Cairo; granddaughter, Michelle Watson, Destin, Fla.; great-grandsons, Tyler Watson, Whigham, Cameron Watson, Cairo and Joseph Watson, Cairo; great-granddaughter, Courtney Watson, Cairo; a sister, Pauline Thigpen, Greenville, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Alton Smith, Las Vegas, Nevada, and a sister-in-law, Pauline Riley, Cairo.

CAROLYN HARDWICK
Feb. 21, 1939 - Oct. 3, 2001

Mrs. Carolyn Bentley Hardwick, 62, passed away Oct. 3, 2001, at Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville, Ga.
Mrs. Hardwick was born Feb. 21, 1939, in Cairo, Ga., to the late Ivey Hill and Lillian Bentley Folds. She was a lifetime resident of Grady County, residing at 101 13th Ave., N.E., Cairo. She was a factory worker and a member of the Family Worship Center, Cairo.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Family Worship Center, Cairo, with Pastor Johnny Moore officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Pine Level Cemetery, Cairo.
Active pallbearers were Terry Kelley, Stan Blount, Dave Stewart, Joe Ingles, Fred Broome, Ricky Barfield, Damon Lambert and Eddie Oates.
Survivors include daughters, Denise Bell, Moultrie, Ga., Anna Mann, Bainbridge, Ga., and Connie Thomas, Cairo; a son, Maurice Lavon Humphries, Cairo; grandchildren, A.J. Mann, Robert Mann and Tony Ansley, all of Bainbridge, Nickie Humphries, Lathonia Humphries and Reese Humphries, all of Cairo, Brian Bell, Brandon Bell, and Brittany Bell, all of Moultrie, and Shelton Thomas, Cairo; and a great-grandchild, Tyler Humphries, Cairo.

JULIA WOODFIN
Sept. 16, 1911 - Oct. 4, 2001

Mrs. Julia Horne Woodfin, 90, passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Pinewood Nursing Center, Whigham, Ga.
Mrs. Woodfin was born Sept. 16, 1911, in Decatur County, Ga., to the late Charlie and Mittie Glover Horne. She was married to Silvie Moses Woodfin, who preceded her in death in 1978. Mrs. Woodfin was a longtime resident of Grady County, residing at 996 10th Ave., N.E., Cairo. She was a dedicated homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Services were held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Clark Funeral Home Chapel, Cairo, with the Rev. Kenneth Asbell officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo.
Active pallbearers were Wayne Woodfin, Yancey Woodfin, Jerry Griffin, Stan Sculley, Marshall Ray Daugherty and Donnie Howell.
Survivors include sons and daughters, Charles Woodfin, Tallahasse, Fla., Herman Woodfin, Thomasville, Ga., Opal Marsten, Alexandria, Va., Mary Sculley, Webb, Ala., Frances Dickerson, Newport News, Va., Kay Griffin of Cairo, and Elaine Bentley, Trenton, Fla.; a brother, George Horne, Cairo; a sister, Dollie Asbell, Cairo; 27 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

EUGENE GLEATON
March 26, 1917 - Oct. 7, 2001

Mr. Eugene A. Gleaton, 84, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Memorial Manor Nursing Home in Bainbridge.
Mr. Gleaton was born March 26, 1917, in Dale County, Ala., to the late James William “Jim” Gleaton and Carrie Kelley Gleaton. He was a resident of Bainbridge for most of his life. He was a laborer and a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church. He was married to Norma Dinkins Gleaton, who preceded him in death.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel. iIntermentfollowed at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Climax, Ga.
Memorials may be made to the Cedar Grove cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 247, Climax, Ga. 31734.
Survivors include his brother, Earliss Gleaton, Roswell, N.M.; two sisters, Merline Brock, Cairo, Ga., and Inell Sapp, Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

ROBERT CARLISLE
September 17, 2001

Mr. Robert E. Carlisle, of Lawrenceville, Ga., passed away Monday, Sept. 17, 2001.
Mr. Carlisle was formerly of Cairo, Ga., the grandson of the late Judge and Mrs. Ira Carlisle of Cairo. He was a practicing attorney in Lawrenceville, specializing in criminal and immigration law. He was a graduate of John Marshall Law School and did undergraduate work at Georgia State University. He was a member of the Georgia State Bar Association, the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, the Gwinnett Bar Association and the Indigent Defense Council. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Tommy and Bill Carlisle.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons. The Rev. Nat Harrison Long and Dr. Robert Allred officiated. iIntermentfollowed at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Mariana D. Carlisle, Lawrenceville; a son, Robert E. Carlisle Jr.; daughter, Margaret (Kate) Carlisle; stepson, Ami Islih; stepdaughter, Katherine Calin; father, Ralph E. Carlisle, Loganville, Ga.; mother, Mrs. Margaret Carlisle; and grandchildren, Avery and Robert.
A.S. Turner & Sons was in charge of arrangements.

ARENA PARRIS
July 5, 1916 - Oct. 2, 2001

Mrs. Arena Cox Parris, 85, passed away Oct. 2, 2001, at Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville, Ga.
Mrs. Parris was born July 5, 1916, in Mitchell County, Ga., to the late Rev. and Mrs. Eddie Rackley. She attended Mitchell County public schools and was a member of the Greater New Corinth M.B. Church, Cairo.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Greater New Corinth M.B. Church with the Rev. W.R. Jenkins officiating. iIntermentfollowed at Second New Salem Cemetery, Vada, Ga.
Active pallbearers were grandsons.
Survivors include five sons, Eugene Cox, Philadelphia, Pa., Ellise Cox (Williemae), Miami, Fla., Dellise Cox (Rutha), Cairo, Ga., Arthur Cox (Cheryl), Miami, .and Willie Lee Cox, Miami; three daughters, Lorean Browning (Johnny), Miami, Nellie Pate, Cairo, and Rose Mary Garland (Larry), Cairo; one sister, Mandy Lee Butler, Cairo; 54 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by three other siblings, Ruby (Della) Hall, Lonie Smith and Roscoe Rackley.

MARY LOUISE VANLANDINGHAM
Jan. 20, 1927 - Oct. 21, 2001

Funeral services were held for Mary Louise Nelson VanLandingham, 74, at the First United Methodist Church of Cairo at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2001, the Rev. Richard Soper officiating, and Mike Inlow, vocalist, and Ed Self, organist, providing the music. The church service was followed by interment at Greenwood cemetery in Cairo.

Tom Allen, Truman Lastinger, Dr. Ashley Register, Don Hancock, Bobby Wind, Robert Taylor, Robert Sellers and Dr. Archie McNeill served as pall bearers.

Mrs. VanLandingham was born in Glendale, Calif., on January 20, 1927, to the late Herbert Stafford Nelson and the late Estelle Darsey Nelson of Thomasville. She died on Wednesday, October 21, 2001, at Grady General Hospital, a victim of cancer.

She is survived by her husband, Robert L. VanLandingham of Cairo, whom she married on December 19, 1946, in a ceremony at the First United Methodist Church of Thomasville.

Other survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law: Robert Stafford and Phyllis VanLandingham of Panama City, Fla., Richard Darsey and Teresa VanLandingham of Cairo, Thomas Nelson and Lanell VanLandingham of Statesboro, Ga., and John Lee and Cindy VanLandingham of Lake Park, Ga.; and nine grandchildren: J.J. VanLandingham, Durango, Colo., Chris VanLandingham, Irvine, Calif., Amy VanLandingham Simmons, Stephens City, Va., Mary Beth VanLandingham, Cairo, Nikki and Rob VanLandingham, Panama City, Fla., and Jeffery, Samantha and Mary VanLandingham, Lake Park, Ga.; a brother, Herbert Stafford Nelson Jr. of Thomasville, preceded her in death.

Mrs. VanLandingham grew up in Fitzgerald and Thomasville and graduated from Thomasville High School with the Class of 1944. Prior to her marriage, she attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Ala., for two years and UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif., for one semester.

Mrs. VanLandingham was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cairo and active in many of the church’s programs. She was also an active member of the Cairo Garden Club Council, and early in her married life conducted the drama program at Cairo High School for one school term. She was a Red Cross volunteer at Grady General Hospital for many years.

If you wish to make a contribution in Mrs. VanLandingham’s memory but have no particular charity or organization in mind as the recipient, the family suggests that you give to the Grady General Support League, P.O. Box 837, Cairo, GA 31728, in recognition of her decades of dedicated service as a hospital volunteer.

Nellie R. Nix
1910-2004
Athens, GA

Nellie Rebecca Nix, 94, of Athens, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2004.

A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Nix was the daughter of John Samuel and Annie Kent Patrick. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Athens and was employed for a number of years with Chicopee Manufacturing Company. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Curtis Nix.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Charles Mann of Athens; daughter, Mildred Gurley of Athens; a brother, John Henry Patrick of Bishop; grandson and wife, Kerry Keith and Katherine Joan Gurley; three great grandchildren, Candice Lynn, Sarah Grace and Tyler Keith Gurley.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday December 17th in the Chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Morris Sapp and the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. iIntermentwill follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Thursday, December 16th at Bernstein Funeral Home.

EDWARD STANFILL
Feb. 13, 1926 - Oct. 22, 2001

Mr. Edward G. Stanfill, 75, of Dade City, Fla., passed away at U.C.H. Fletcher Hospital, Dade City, on Oct. 22, 2001.

Mr. Stanfill was born in Pelham, Ga., Feb. 13, 1926, to the late Bertie and Ruby Powell Stanfill. He was retired and of the Methodist faith.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Clark Funeral Home Chapel, Cairo. iIntermentfollowed at Pierce Chapel Cemetery, Cairo.

Survivors include his companion, Ruth Young, Dade City; two daughters, Tricia Cassell, Brandon, Fla., and Sherry Allbritton, Crawfordville, Fla.; a brother, Ellis Stanfill, Fitzgerald, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

CRISTIAN REYNOSA
Oct. 15, 1998-Oct. 25, 2001

Master Cristian Anibal Reynosa, 3, of Cairo, Ga., passed away at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, on Oct. 25, 2001.

Master Reynosa was born in West Palm Beach, Fla., on Oct. 15, 1998, to Anibal Reynosa and Paulina Hernandez Reynosa.

Services were held at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Clark Funeral Home Chapel, Cairo. iIntermentwas held at Pine Crest cemetery in Lake Worth, Fla.

Survivors include parents, Anibal Reynosa and Paulina Hernandez Reynosa; and a sister, Araseli Llanet Deleon, Cairo.

KENNETH DUNWORTH
October 25, 2001

Mr. Kenneth L. Dunworth Sr., 77, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., passed away Oct. 25, 2001.

Mr. Dunworth was a resident of Ft. Lauderdale and Cairo, Ga. He served in World War II as a member of the U.S. M.C. He was a longtime electrical contractor in Ft. Lauderdale, a member of the N.E.C.A. and State Electrical Contractors Licensing Board. He was founding member of Ft. Lauderdale Executive Association, past member of the Elks and a long time supporter of Federal Little League at Floyd Hull Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Floyd Hull Stadium Federal Little League (954) 525-4910.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Etta Dunworth; three sons, Bill, Lee, and Jack Dunworth; daughters, Kathy McClellan and Jo Kimball; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Binnie Mayes.

Fred Hunter’s Ft. Lauderdale Home was in charge of arrangements.

L.C. COLLINS
Aug. 2, 1929 - Oct. 27, 2001

Services for L.C. Collins, 72, of Ochlocknee, Ga., were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel, Thomasville, Ga. The Revs. Bill Oliver and Cecil Harrison officiated. iIntermentfollowed at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers included Chris Miller, Dana Roland, Andy Stewart, Charles Harrell, Gene Roland, Ron Cannon, Tyler Miller and Lamar Matthew.

Honorary pallbearers included the Cairo High School Class of 1946 football team.

Mr. Collins passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville. A Grady County native, Mr. Collins was born Aug. 2, 1929, son of Linton C. and Frances Barwick Collins. He was still an active pecan and produce broker. A 1946 graduate of Cairo High School, he was a member of the state championship football team. He went on to attend Georgia Military College, Florida State University and the University of Georgia before joining the U.S. Navy. He also was a coach for the YMCA midget and junior football. He was a member and trustee of Bold Springs United Methodist Church and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Paricutin (AE18) ammunition ship.

Survivors include his wife, Marceille Collins, Ochlocknee; son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Rita Collins, Ochlocknee; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dave Malcom, Thomasville; and grandchildren, Nikki and Stephanie Collins, and Blake Malcom.

Allen & Allen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
