Jada Stegall
Graveside services for infant Jada Stegall of Lumber City were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, in Pine Acres Cemetery.
Stegall died Sunday, June 19, 2005 at Bibb County Hospital. She was the daughter of Eric Stegall and Lakeiah Harris.
In addition to her parents, survivors include her brothers, Tyshen Bennett and Lakyle Harris, both of Hazlehurst; sister, Jade Stegall of Lumber City; grandparents; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Harold Creighton Whatley
Services for Harold Creighton Whatley of South Carolina, were held at 11 a.m, Saturday, June 25 at Trinity United Methodist Church with interment in Southlawn Cemetery.
Dr. Rodney K. Powell officiated.
Whatley, 76, died Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at his residence. He was the son of the late Graham Whatley and was married to Bessie Williams Whatley for 50 years.
He was a native of McRae and had lived in Aiken, S.C. since 1965. He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 1579 for 50 years, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II and Korea.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter Brenda Bell-Cline of Atlanta; three sons, Tim Whatley of North Augusta, John Whatley of Taylors, and David Whatley of Florence; brother, Ferrell Whatley of McRae and five grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Josephs Hospice, or Trinity United Methodist Church.
Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home, Aiken, S.C. was in charge of arrangements.

Carrie Mae Wilcox Allen
Services for Carrie Mae Wilcox Allen of Telfair County were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18 at Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with interment in the Mt. Calvary C.M.E. Cemetery in Lumber City.
The Rev. E. Neal Dixon officiated.
Allen, 91, died Sunday, June 12, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Mamie Clements Wilcox of Telfair County and was the widow of the Rev. Enoch Allen.
She was a member of the Greater Macedonia M.B. Church and of the Gold Club Auxiliary.
Survivors include her daughters, Sheryl Horne of Hazlehurst, Rosie Jackson of Lithonia, and Alice R. Davis of Buffalo, N.Y.; sons, John Allen of Buffalo, N.Y. and Larry Allen of Hazlehurst; 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
King Brothers Funeral Home of Hazlehurst was in charge of arrangements.

Willie Ethel Bennett
Services for Willie Ethel Bennett of Hazlehurst were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with interment in the Wilcox Cemetery in Jacksonville, Ga.
The Rev. Henry Hall officiated.
Bennett, 77, died Sunday, June 5, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Lacy and Willie Hill and was the widow of George E. Bennett. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Hazlehurst.
Survivors include her daughters, Lillie Mae McRae, Delois Clements, Geneva Alderman, Marion Alice Bennett, Louise Bennett and Lisa Barnes; sons, Larry Bennett, Paul Bennett, Lacy Bennett, James Bennett and Jim Bennett; sisters, Betty Knox, Clara Williams and Rosie Lee Smith; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
King Brothers Funeral Home of Hazlehurst was in charge of arrangements.

Viola Virginia Coleman
Services for Viola Virginia Coleman of Alamo were held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 17 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment in the Alamo City Cemetery.
The Rev. Roy Grimes officiated.
Coleman, 97, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005. Born in Wheeler County, she was the daughter of the late Sarah Elizabeth Clark and Charles Williams and was the widow of Columbus Coleman. She was preceded in death by a son, Jack Coleman, and grandson, Wendell Causey.
She was a member of Friendship Baptist Holiness Church and had retired from the Wheeler County School System as a dietitian.
Survivors include her daughter, Othell Stewart of Alamo; daughter-in-law, Lalia Coleman of Macon; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Emily Flanders Nairn
Services for Emily Flanders Nairn of McRae were held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, June 20 at the McRae United Methodist Church with interment in the Scotland Cemetery.
Dr. Robert Williams officiated.
Nairn, 95, died Saturday, June 18, 2005 in the hospital of the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Born Nov. 2, 1909 in Adrian, she was the daughter of the late Nelle Norwood Flanders and George P. Flanders of Scotland.
She was educated in the Telfair County schools and was a member of the last graduating class from South Georgia College in McRae in 1928. She attended the Georgia Baptist School of Nursing in Atlanta and held a current State of Georgia Nursing License. A former teacher and a retired nurse, she had worked on the floor of all three hospitals in Telfair County, as well as in the McRae Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of the McRae United Methodist Church where she had sung in the choir in earlier years.
Nairn touched the lives of countless individuals and exemplified the word courage from the beloved Serenity Prayer that she quoted so often when she extended a helping hand to others.
She is survived by one daughter, Jane (Lamar) Davidson of McRae; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart and in pictures on her refrigerator.
Contributions may be made in her memory to the Emily Flanders Nairn Nursing Scholarship, c/o Betty Meehan, School of Nursing, Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, Ga. 30912.

Mable Evans Purvis
Services for Mable Evelyn Evans Purvis of McRae were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18 in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with burial in the Alamo Memorial Cemetery.
The Rev. Randal Horne and the Rev. Nick Hazelton officiated.
Purvis, 70, died Wednesday, June 15, 2005. Living most of her life in Wheeler County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Reva Wyatt Evans and was married to Billy Purvis of Alamo for 52 years. She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Chandler Alexander.
She had worked for both Roydon Wear and Oxford Shirt Factory.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her sons, Randy and Gail Purvis, and Keith Purvis, both of Alamo; daughter, Shelia and Derris Spires of Alamo; brother, Carris and Barbara Evans of Alamo; sister, Judy Evans of California; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Vaughn Funeral Home of McRae has charge of arrangements.

Ray Purvis
Services for Ray Purvis of Alamo were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 15 in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with burial in the Alamo Memorial Cemetery.
The Rev. Randall Horne and Rev. Henry Harrelson officiated.
Purvis, 68, died Monday, June 13, 2005. He was the son of the late Elbert B. and Mattie White Purvis and was married to Jewell Peavy Purvis for 45 years.
A lifelong resident of Wheeler County, he was a retired air tool specialist for American Yard Products where he had worked for more than 25 years. Purvis had previously worked for Hack Treadwell of Macon.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Cindy and Sammy Vaughn of McRae, Lisa (Purvis) and Tony Batchelor of Alamo, Nancy and Rodney Barth of Forsyth, and Alan and Bridgett Purvis of Milan; brothers, Fred Purvis of Macon, Billy Purvis, Wade Purvis, Tommy Purvis, Nelson Purvis and Don Purvis, all of Alamo; sisters, Eva Blount of East Dublin, Geneva Hulett of Macon, and Martha Stovall of Alamo; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Vaughn Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Catherine Musselwhite Marchant
Services for Catherine Musselwhite Marchant of Bainbridge were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 at Ivey Funeral Home with interment in Oak City Cemetery.
The Rev. William Connell officiated.
Marchant, 92, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005 at Bainbridge Health Care in Bainbridge. She was the daughter of David Elza Musselwhite and Ileff Lenwood Powell Musselwhite of Bainbridge and was the widow of Grady Edward Marchant. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin and Jeathrow Musselwhite and one sister, Harriet Musselwhite.
She was a sales clerk with Western Union for 10 years and was a member of First Baptist Church in McRae. She was a member of Ladies Sunday School and Clyde Moore Parsons WMU. Prior to moving to McRae, she taught four-year-olds in Sunday School for 40 years at First Baptist Church in Bainbridge.
Survivors include her son, Melvin (Judy) Marchant of McRae; daughter, Susan (Earl) Wade of Jacksonville, Ala.; three sisters, Elsie Hudson of Commerce, Clara Smith of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Jimmie Laura Houston of Tifton; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Ivey Funeral Home of Bainbridge was in charge of arrangements.
